  1. YES!!! Now do the other gory scenes from DYRL.
  2. While we are on the topic of the fansubbing of the new remasters, here is an image spread from one of the mini-stories included as an extra on each DVD. These are from the climactic battle near Halley's Comet, heralding the arrival of the Gunbuster into the combat zone. Sorry for the image quality, but I wanted to show as many as possible. You will be able to see them on my site when I get them uploaded.
  3. So a more realistic depiction of decompression would be what happened to Tim Robbins in Mission to Mars, as opposed to Arnold's eyes popping out of his head like a fiddler crab. I had to admit that scene in Mission to Mars was pretty damn graphic and looked fairly believable with his head freezing instantly. Actually that scene was complete Garbage, he wouldn't flash freeze like that, not even Martian orbit. All the fluid in his body would rapidly evaporate/boil though due to the pressure drop leaving a quickly desicating corpse. And, the ddeath would be far from instananeous, in fact from decompression studies he would probably live for up to a minute, in extreme agony. Personnally, I would have rather burned up. The subject of blood boiling in your body has come up on more than one occasion on many a site dealing with anime or science-fiction related shows where some poor schlub has an accident. I put those facts (real or otherwise is up to you) up there as I had gotten them from a few space-science related webpages. The one site had links to articles and scientists who wrote books on the subject, so I figured they would be pretty accurate as science goes. Please don't shoot the messenger as I got this stuff elsewhere. I didn't write it.
  4. I think its the extreme temperatures in space that causes blood to boil. this is all speculation of course but it seems to me if the cockpit were pressurized the air would escape through the bullet hole in the canopy and since his space suit is assumably temperature regulated it would happen just like it was shown. It's not so much boiling as nitrogen bubbling out of solution due to lack of external pressure. It's actually those shows where people do go SPLAT which are less realistic - I'm talking willing suspension of disbelief, of course! A couple of thoughts on the human body and explosive decompression: Also, go to this link for a bunch of gobble-de-gook on the subject. http://www.sff.net/people/Geoffrey.Landis/vacuum.html
  5. Amen to that, brother! I love this film. And I've only ever been able to catch the extended version on trelevision one time.
  6. All based off manga.
  7. I have to say this, because it is warranted: "Read the thread!"
  8. I can't believe none of you out there have recommended the psychological thriller Perfect Blue. While it is not a comedy, it is a very good movie. Probably one of the best things I can say about Manga Entertainment who released the film.
  9. Well, I followed your instructions implicitly and I now have a perfectly subtitled copy of Macross: DYRL. Thanks a bunch!
  10. Yes, this is a great movie also, and possibly the only one Paul Anderson will ever be given an ounce of respect for.
  11. Okay, what exactly did you not understand quoted in the above post, Otaku-Smeghead? While it was a commercial failure and a stinker, it is a bad film, but I do love it, and it has one of the best fist fight scenes ever put into a movie. Roddy Piper and the other dude should have gotten an Oscar for that scene. Everytime I see this movie on TV, I have to watch it. It does rule, but it still does not detract from the fact that a lot of people say it was horrible.
  12. I just finished backing up both my Macross and Macross Plus DVD's. Now all I need to do is put them on discs. My good discs are going right back intot heir cases and staying there. By the way, I got the Paul Champagne box the other day and it is friggin' great!
  13. Ooh, ooh! How about They Live? One of the best bad movies ever made! I just got it on DVD the other day! Edit: I forgot to add this movie for those of you out there who may be into the great 60's horror and sci-fi movies like the old Hammer films. Well, it's a guilty pleasure of mine, and was the first movie to ever scare the bejeezus out of me when I was a kid. It was a little jem of a film called "Island of Terror", and involved a plot where a group of scientists on an isolated island were trying to create a creature which would be beneficial to man by curing cancer. What they got was a deadly monster which fed on human bone, was silicon based, and multiplied faster than rats. This movie was made during the 60's and starred Peter Cushing, the man we all loved to hate as the Grand Moff Tarkin in Star Wars. The movie is pure cheese, but it is good cheese if you like the good old monster movies of that era. Bad special effects, bad lighting and props, but loads of great acting by decent cast members and a decent story to boot. IMDB information on Island of Terror And this is for A1. And yes I goofed on the label. The last part should read "Now you know why Crom makes you suffer.":
  14. I could be wrong, but weren't the above posters of Star Wars, Conan, and National Lampoon's Vacation all painted by the same artist?
  15. When I rented an apartment from a friend of mine a number of years back, I got his daughter hooked on anime when she was about 6, and she actually learned to read a lot better in school and home because of the subtitles. Mind you, most of the titles I let her watch were mostly kid friendly, but being 16 now she pretty much watches everything she can get ahold of. And while she has seen the subtitled Macross, she actually does not like it, but prefers Macross Plus. Go figure. And she knows about Robotech and will not go near it. I can only hope that one day my own kids will be like her.
  16. Sorry, better get your book out. Thats NOT what it says. Robotech Art 3, p. 15 Well, it may not be exactly as I said, but on that same page there is a paragraph stating that great care had to be taken to keep word of a possible Macross sequel from getting out. It has been years since I have read the book, and I do not intend to read it again. It is sitting in my bookcase nice and quiet where it can mold for all I care. Sorry if I sound gruff, but I am a purist by heart and have outgrown Robotech because I do feel that it is inferior to the original product. My final point also is that Rick will always be Hikaru, Lisa will always be Misa, and Minmei will always be Minmay, no matter what situation you put them in, and no matter how many times you try to tell the public differently. Which is why you have Graham and other foreign anime fans asking, "Why are Hikaru and Max wearing that gaudy spandex?"
  17. Ah, the well over-used Photoshop sunburst effect... It's only the overused Photoshop lens flare if Photoshop was involved. I was under the impression that all these posters were painted by hand. A lens flare by itself or achieved in ways other than a pasted in computer filter should not really be compared to the problem of overused computer lens flare filters. Remember why those filters are so despised, because it's basically a piece of clip art not created by the artist and simply pasted over an image without any skill or talent neccessary. And since they're so easy, they become abused by amaturish Photoshop artists. Yeah, I think the posters are done by hand. I think that guy Dru painted this poster; it seems to fit in with other artwork he has done. But then again, a lot of accomplished artists nowadays love the old drawing pad hooked up to the computer. Maybe he got lazy. Then again, it looks like he used Jasc Paint Shop Pro's lens flare effect...
  18. Better get your eyes checked, Graham. I don't remember a Hikaru, Max Jenius or Britai in The Sentinels. Ah, but to the pure Macross afficianado, especially one who has never been corrupted by the likes of Robotech or its aborted sequel, those characters will always remain to be Hikaru, Max, and Britai, no matter how much someone tries to tell you they aren't. It is stated in Robotech Art III by Carl Macek that when they consulted Tatsunoko about producing the animation for the Sentinels, the Japanese animators thought they were making a Macross sequel. So Graham is correct to make the assumptions he has. Just because Americans were forced to accept a bastardized version of Macross, Southern Cross, and Mospeada, doesn't mean the rest of the world was.
  19. You do not know how lucky you are, my friend. As for the battle of the Ems, I prefer the 80's purple haired chick a lot more. Way cuter. God, I need help...
  20. And of course this led to every "Harry Homeowner" knucklehead out there trying this bit of ingenuity and totally making things worse than they already were. One thing I find extremely funny is that here in Maryland duct tape is against code now to use on ductwork on new furnace and heat pump applications.
  21. Ah, the well over-used Photoshop sunburst effect...
  22. These two movies will probably get me burned at the stake, but hey! I like them! Sue me! Watch them only if you like watching campy sci-fi movies from the 70's.
  23. More or less this is my take on the matter regarding the "Daughter of Defeat" name, which I agree with also. I've been trying to rework Onizuka's text into something which would be more understandable to English speaking fans, but it has proven harder than usual. Valkyrie did the same thing, but I'm not sure if he ever completed episodes 5 and six. I just started three. The quoted below is more or less my take on the translation. There is also another time Noriko is called this name, during the fight between her and Kashiwara. I forget what the US Renditions version translated it to.
