1. I just find it kind of odd that they are using the director of a mediocre movie (Which I did like) to film a remake of another mediocre movie (Which I did not like). I'm sure if it fails, they'll (Hollywood) be able to say it was the Japanese guy's fault.
2. Just to let you know, they were stunt boobies. While Hershey has done nudity, the casts of her breasts used in the film were animatronic. And if you would like more disturbing news, Hollywood is remaking this movie and using Ringu director Hideo Nakata as the go between.
3. You want bad acting? How about the cast of every Roger Corman movie ever made? If that's not far enough back for you, how about the William Shatner led Kingdom of the Spiders? As for worst actor, I nominate Barbara Hershey for her disturbing role as a single mother raped by a demon in that awful movie called The Entity. Okay, here's an update. I nominate the entire cast of the unwatchable film I Spit on Your Grave. Despite being a gratuitously nasty movie with loads of unnecessary nudity and brutality, the story sucks as well as the knuckleheaded actors hired to portray the lame characters. The reason I bring this movie up is because I was forced to endure this shitfest while visiting my brother. He actually owns the DVD.
4. My defining Macross moment was finally nabbing a copy of DYRL in 1985 at about $120.00, then taking it back to base and having the whole platoon watch it and marvelling at the pretty pictures. Even though not one of us spoke any Japanese, half the platoon remained until the end, adding their own dialogue.
5. Anyone here a fan of the campy 80's television series War of the Worlds, which tied in with the 1953 George Pal movie? Just noticed it was on sale today and managed to pick it up with some other goodies. Pretty excited too, as I have never seen this series outside of its original run. I am looking foward to some downtime this weekend to watch all 23 episodes. As for season 2 of this show, it can stay in the trash heap for all I care, as I did not like the way they took the show. Kind of the same thing I hated about the second season of Space: 1999 when they killed off main characters for no reason and redesigned everything. So, what do you think? What were your likes and dislikes of this show? Or are most of you out there too young to even remember it?
6. Went to Best Buy today to buy my copy and found something infinitely better. Right in front of me, next to the ROTS display, were copies of The Wild Geese and Zulu Dawn offered as a dual pack. I bought these along with the Star Wars DVD and Darth Vader lightsaber. Yeah, I'm pathertic, but I'll be watching the mercenary movie first. I love The Wild Geese.
7. You can get the official version here: CD Japan. I have generally bought stuff from them before and they have been great. Another great dealer which is stateside where you can also find a copy of the movie: Robert's Anime Corner Store. Just to advise you, this DVD does not have subtitles. If you want to make your own subtitled copy, you will need to visit the DYRL - Region 2 DVD Subtitles Upgrade, For the Bandai/Emotion Region 2 DVD Only thread.
8. Since I have a Sirius subscription, I just listen to some of my stations at home.
9. Nonsense. DVD is MPEG. It's a lossy compression scheme. You are ALWAYS left with an image of lower quality than the source. Besides which, you can't really reconstruct missing data without a lot of time and effort. For general purposes, the source is the best. And that's the trick. Same # of episodes on a DVD look way better than same episodes on a VCD, provided re-encoding is necesary. The extra 4GB of space(for a single-layer disk) lets you use MUCH lighter compression. Ewww. 340801 Shows you how much I know.
10. Nero Burning ROM will also work well. And it will convert the avi files to DVD files with improved picture quality. Same amount of episodes to a disc though, but it beats looking at a grainy VCD. I burnt my files to disc and they look great. However, do not use Roxio Easy Media Creator. They will compress the widescreen effect into pan and scan.
11. I hate to even recommend bootlegs, but if you're looking for a cheaper alternative to the Japanese release, then the Macross: Do You Remember Love? Perfect Edition DVD is right for you. Valkyrie-Exchange had this item for sale on his website, but he lists it as out of print, so I guess eBay would be the place to find it. The cover looks like this if you are looking for it: And if you have the burning software as well as hardware, you can make yourself a practically perfect English subtitled copy. The thread on how to do this is here: http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=13441. There is a thread also on how to do tis with the official release also. Hope this helps.
12. My mom lives in Lake Worth. She lost her whole house. I'm trying to get her to move back to Maryland.
13. That will be the day I put the barrel of my .45 in my mouth and pull the trigger.
14. Figures. They take a movie which needs no remake and consider doing it over. Hollywood really is running out of ideas if they are considering remaking a 18 year old film which still looks pretty good today. Friggin' cheesedicks.
15. The motherload of all cels! All I want is the Coach one and the mecha, but for the price if I win it cannot be topped. Although, I do not know what the one is...
16. ELO, IIRC, was actually very late '70s prog rock...I'm not sure they were part of the New Wave scene. 339639 They were originally lumped in with the new wave of disco that was coming out at the end of the 70's. Which is why I thought they were kind of gay when I was a kid, but now that I'm older I like the stuff and it makes me yearn for those days.
17. Christ, one of my favorite video game characters, and Boll turns her into a retarded whore. The only way I'll ever see BloodRayne now is if someone else buys it and asks if I want to watch it. And only if I am drunk will I consider it. Majesco Games should be burnt to the ground for selling the license to this a-hole. Thank God he did not get Halo.
18. I'm sorry. I meant the movie itself. I already have the song. Should have cleared that up...
19. Cool song. I actually have it as an mp3 file somewhere on my hard drive. And I like the video. However, if someone does manage to get this thing, how about uploading a high quality version for us slackers to have. Edit: I found that song. If any of you want it, send me a message. It includes that opening theme speech.
20. By the way, I do have that 1/10th scale Nono PVC figure. Yeah, I know I hate the show and all, but as goofy as Nono is, I had to get at least one figure...
21. Cool! I am going to have to get these just for the Top! 1 figures alone.
22. Okayyyyyy... Time to close this thing down.
23. Amen to that. Just finished watching it myself. Great stuff. I found myself laughing quite a bit. Download it now.
24. Downloading it now. Will let you know. Looks kind of stupid though, if you ask me. And they do not ship to the United States, possibly because of the ramifications of getting sued by Paramount Pictures. Edit: English page for ordering stuff: http://www-fi1.starwreck.com/dvd/index_e.html.
