The Official Aim for the Top! Gunbuster Thread

And hence, they'll be rare. Maybe one day when I outgrow my Gunbuster/anime fetish, I'l be able to recoup most of the cost by selling my entire collection on eBay. That won't be a cheap auction either. -

Well, you'd figure they would get the coloring of the bands right for a toy costing $500 plus dollars, unless this is the prototype. Thank god someone posted those images, because mine ain't ever coming out of it's box. With its size, it looks as if too much can go wrong with it. Oh yeah, note the size also, as it is placed right next to the new Xebec toy. Geez, that Bandai model is looking more and more promising. Since I am a freakin' completist, I'll go ahead and keep my pre-order for the Studio Halfeye. However, I may go ahead and get two of the Chogokin models, one to keep and the other to play with. -

[drools]Buster Machines with launch pad...[/drools] Edit: By the way, I am almost tempted to give up my pre-order for the Studio Half-Eye kit as this Bandai one looks to be the one to get. -

Those are the front page top images used on Gainax's site. They are contributed to the site by members of Gainax Net's fan club. There is a new image every Friday afternoon, one devoted to every series or venture Gainax has created. The only way you can get these is to copy the image from the front page itself or go to Gainax's shop in Japan and purchase their Gainax net Art Museum CD-ROM collection. Unfortunately, you cannot order stuff from Gainax anymore, as they stopped shipping things overseas years ago. I have the complete set of Gunbuster as well as Diebuster images as they go for now, so if you want them, let me know. Just remember where you got them. -

God, what is it with you people and hands? Oh look Vader has little hands... -
You know, spoilers really don't bother me much, but please take kindly to the fact that there are those of us here who have not seen the 2nd series and would like to watch it unhindered. And don't bring up the "don't read the post if you don't want to know" thing, as the title of this thread says "The Doctor Who Thread", not "The Spoiler Laden Doctor Who Thread". I'm not just nitpicking on Ginrai, but there are a few others also.

Well, if you've noticed, ANN does not seem to update their site over the weekend, however they did post on July 4th that Gunbuster was among the new licenses. -

The sound masters being destroyed is probably a rumor perpetuated by purists (like me!) who never want to see a dubbed version of Aim for the Top! put out on the market. I for one love the original Japanese language version, and do not think an English dub can ever come close to capturing the emotions felt by the original cast, especially in the later episodes. Hopefully Bandai will leave well enough alone, but you know, someone will complain that they have to read. Anyways, if you are a true Gunbuster aficionado as I am, you probably don't need subtitles when watching it. -
Well, being old enough to have seen the original 2 movies in the theatre as a kid, I can say that when I went to see the new one earlier tonight I had a bit of trepidation. After reading some of the remarks posted here regarding the new film, I went into the theatre fully expecting not to like this movie. However, I put myself back into the mindset of the 12 year old boy I was when the original came out and I was hooked. Letting myself feel like a kid again helped me to enjoy this movie and remember that I wished I could fly too. Great popcorn movie. Now when is that new version of Superman II with Donner's original footage coming out...

Don't get your panties in an uproar over nothing. It was leaked a while back that someone held the license for a region 1 release after Manga fumbled the ball. It was just a matter of time finding out who held it. I always felt it would be Bandai, and it is great news, considering how ADV Films like to use southern accents in their dubs for their representation of people from Osaka. Noriko is from Osaka. As for the trailers, the guy who made the post said they were airing trailers of past work that the company had done. Since Bandai provided much of the financial work for Aim For The Top!, it would only be natural for them to feature clips of the series in their portfolio, so to speak. -

Paul Anderson states on the extras disc on the new Event Horizon release that he would have liked to have released a director's cut, but a lot of the footage was lost or destroyed or something like that. There were some deleted scenes, but not much to make a difference in story telling.

Uwe Boll Want's To Beat The Crap Out Of You!
Noriko Takaya replied to Mr March's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I for one have attempted to watch Boll's movies when released as rentals, and have had a horrible time trying to sit through even ten minutes of one. BloodRayne, on the other hand, was so bad it was actually funny. I found myself laughing through the entire thing, mostly because of Kristana Loken and Michelle Rodriguez bad acting and stunts. I also loved the fact that badass drunk actor Michael Madsen was so inebriated thoughout the film I found myself imitating him. There are times if you watch closely enough, Madsen looks like he is going to puke! And speaking of which, this movie is what Mystery Science Theatre 3000 was made for. Just add your own dialogue! BloodRayne is a horrible, horrible movie, but it is also great for some laughs. Other than that, tie a rope around Boll's scrotum, while anchoring him to a cement post and have a horse pull the rope until the nuts come off. -

Been wanting to see The Invasion for quite some time. I only ever got to read the novelization, which was quite excellent.

Have You Ever Met A Celebrity Or Famous Person?
Noriko Takaya replied to Phalanx's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Well, I met President Reagan while I was in the Marine Corps and he shook hands with everyone in my platoon. I also got to meet one of Japan's original J-pop idols, Akina Nakamori after a concert she performed at in Tokyo many moons ago. God, what a beautiful woman... Other than that, I met Burt Reynolds when I was a kid, and also bumped into Scott Baio and Michael Douglas. And that's my claim to fame. -
Actually, I think you might mean ACTRESS...

Regarding the time dilation factor regarding warp and FTL travel. Both modes of travel affect time in some form or manner, as seen in the series. I cannot recall the year the Exelion begins its mission, but by the time they return to Earth, it is 2032. I'll try to dig up some info. -

Is this kit transformable? I've been out of the loop for a while due to computer problems at home and have been unable to chat. If this kit is transformable, why am I spending $500 for the kit produced by Studio Halfeye? -
Which design are you using? Are you basing your model off of Roberto Baldassari's Eagle which is rendered from Brian Johnson's original design? I love that old show and have been a fan of the Eagle for years. I even own a couple of the recent diecast models of the ship as well as the original models released in the 70's. One of my favorite pics:

But why should we have to? I had the same 19" TV, and hand-me-down from my parents, for something like 15 years. It didn't stop playing TV shows. In fact, I still own the TV, but it hasn't been hooked up for the last four years because I've had two better TVs since. But we're expected to buy new DVD players every five years to keep up with the latest security encryptions? Piracy protection is becoming more and more of an excuse for extortion. 391583[/snapback] Welcome to wonderful world of planned obsolescence.
