Powerpuff Girls go anime!
Noriko Takaya replied to terry the lone wolf's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Liked the original PPG, but this has gotta go. Downloaded the first two episodes, but I could not even make it through the first 15 minutes of the first one. -
Fanchildren, Cease Thy Whining
Noriko Takaya replied to bsu legato's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
No, he's talking about the restored versions of the originals which were released on VHS remastered with THX sound. Remember the different covers, one of Vader, one of Yoda, and the other of a Stormtrooper? -

That's not James Earl Jones, unless they did a switch around. I remember hearing an imposter when I first saw the updated Empire. Now I'm going to go check. -
The Aim for the Top! Gunbuster Thread v2.0
Noriko Takaya replied to Noriko Takaya's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
There are two separate answers I can give to this. By the time Operation Calnedius takes place, the year would be 2048, and that would make Noriko just shy of 42. By the time episode 6 ends, when Noriko and Kazumi return to Earth in the year 14,292, Noriko would be 12,286 years-old. Kazumi would be two years older than Noriko. -
The Aim for the Top! Gunbuster Thread v2.0

You've got to remember also, that we have been dealing with US Rendition's original translation of the series, which, if you go by the first three episodes, was pretty attrocious. Now, to clear some things up. Noriko was nine when her father was killed. You got that right. Her 8th was the last time she saw him. Noriko also entered the Okinawa Girls' School in 2021 just shy of her 15th birthday. She had been there for almost a year when Ota selects her and Amano for the Gunbuster program. This was in June of 2022. Then comes the mission to investigate the anomaly. This mission will take three months at Earth time. Jung states to Noriko that they will have a party to celebrate their birthdays as Noriko is scheduled to return beforehand. But the mission goes wrong and they overshoot for a total of six months. Noriko turns 16, while the Exelion is commissioned near the end of 2022. The Exelion returns to Earth in July of 2032, and by Earth's reckoning, Noriko has aged ten years, but I place her age closer to 26 than 25. Hope this helps. This is about as accurate as I can get it. -
Well, today is the 12th of September, and I am starting a new thread dedicated to Gunbuster and it's offspring, Diebuster. Since today is Noriko's birthday, I want everyone to say "Happy Birthday, Noriko!" as fellow fan Mecurial Morpheus has stated. Now for the gripe: I have only been waiting since 1999 when I opened the Gunbuster Index to utter those very words first. Now I feel cheated.

Just from what I have gathered from this episode is that my feelings were right all along... I do not like it. However, I will wait for the fansub, but I do not think it will change my mind. Spoiler (Highlight to read): From what I have seen, the only thing tying this series to the original one is Larc's wearing of one of the original Top! outfits and the appearance of the original Gunbuster re-entering Earth-time in the year 14,292 which seems to be the time period DieBuster takes place. -

Be very careful on transforming it. There have been reports that certain pieces are very fragile and break very easily. -

I still haven't got mine, as HLJ is having problems getting authorization on my credit card. Maybe I ought to cancel the order... However, I knew what the size dimensions were going to be for the kit, and I did post them here somewhere in this thread, so I'm not going to be all that shocked. And Gunbuster, consider yourself lucky. You have a piece of memoribilia that is rare, and will probably go up in value. If not, some old school fan out there who does not have one may buy it off of you on eBay. -

Try explaining this to your significant other, who probably dislikes your Gundam hobby to begin with, if you come home with this. Mayhem assured!! -

Hey, that's all right. The ending definitely affects you in one way or another. It actually made me cry at the thought that she would never be able to live with the ones she loved in the same time stream again. But at least the population of Earth never forgot the sacrifice Kazumi and Noriko made to save humanity, as they were there to welcome them both home. -

Copy the image and circle the part you are talking about on Bandai's page. Post it in a PM to me. As for line art, let me see what I can do. -

While we are drooling over the pics of the SOC Gunbuster, I just got word today that my Studio HalfEye model will be shipping soon. Hobby Link Japan has them in stock now and ready to buy. Updates on this kit will follow. Feeling strain on wallet now... Otakon is tomorrow... may find a new cel, and DVD is right around the corner as well as the SOC model. Damn, I'm glad I make a decent living... -

Where did you hear this? As far as I know, ADV announced at AX 2006 they are still releasing the series.

You are seeing things. That is Gunbuster's proper silhouette. If the items you are talking about what I am thinking of, then they are part of its head. -

I really wish I could tell you where to find a R1 version of the series, but there has never been one outside of the VHS format. If you can find someone who owns the original US Renditions set, borrow them. Hell, you can buy the Kiseki DVD on eBay if you can find it, just stay away from the Chinese bootleg. I do not want to pressure you into buying something you cannot afford, seeing as how the set will possibly costs upwards of $130 if we get the remastered collection box. To me it is worth it, as I am probably the most fanatical person on this site who loves the show; but I also love the artwork as I am a big fan of Mikimoto. -

Excellent news! I cannot wait! Well, I have waited for a number of years, but God! The suspense is killing me! And Spatula, you need to give Aim for the Top! a chance. You will love it. I promise you. If you liked Top 2!, you will like the original. -

That isn't Noriko. She does not have white hair and is not black. It looks a lot like Larc to me. And if Gainax does something to totally screw up the first Aim for the Top! I'll never forgive them. -
Question is, will this new Kirk bang everything on two legs, shoot phasers first without asking, and keep his biatches in line by pimp slapping them when they start going crazy, like my man Shatner did in the original series? Or will this Kirk be a modernized, pussified, pacifist metrosexual like John Luck Pickard?

The Official Aim for the Top! Gunbuster Thread

The last episode was filmed in the normal manner, but it was cropped (by Anno, I think) to give it a more cinematic feeling, as well as emotional impact. This is also why it was left black and white. I think the directors made a good call, as episode 6 easily stands out as possibly the best episode of Aim for the Top! The futility of fighting a war which literally spans a few generations and the toll it takes on those involved is shown pretty well here. I mean, geez, compare Noriko's, Kazumi's and Kimiko's ages. Can you imagine the havoc that war played with the families left home to worry?
