For me it's the transforming mecha. The VFs have good proportions and a low profile in jet mode. They aren't a horribly chunky thing passed off as a jet like with some lines. The robot modes are also nicely proportioned and don't end up looking like a robot with a jet on it's back.

I like both scales. They each have their merits. When I look at my display cabinet (see my sig) I've noticed that the first thing I always look at is my 1/48 Hikaru Strike. The second thing I look at is my 1/60 VT-1. Next comes the Batman figures. Then I look at the rest of the 1/48s and 1/60s in no particular order.

I would love to see a 12" DYRL Macross. This is actually higher on my list than ALL the enemy mecha and the destroids.
-
This is the only Yamato listed in almost 800 Toy Fair 2004 exclusive auctions (active & completed), so I'm guessing it's misrepresentation.
-
Interesting. Is this seller full of crap or was Yamato or a distribution representative at Toy Fair? I haven't heard anything about this on the various toy sites, but they rarely cover anything Macross. If this is true, that is one amazing give-away.

I don't have the stands but what other poses did you want? I'll try to find some time and post some "action shots". Someone had mentioned the missile barrage pose. I don't really remember what it looks like, but I remember liking it everytime I watch DYRL?

Based on that picture all the scales look to be about right. I wonder why Yamato didn't put a scale on the box? Seems it could help to sell the product. Nice markings on the Q-Rau in that picture

Thanks for the review Graham! I'll be passing on this since I'm not a huge Q-Rau or Milia fan. I've always been more of a fan of the good guy mecha. I just don't feel the need to spend the money to add this to my collection. I am very grateful that Yamato is adding variety to the line. I personnally would love to see some 1/60 scale destroids with diecast content. I don't know why, but I just see diecast and destroids going together. Can someone post pictures of this posed? I see a lot of comments about it being poseable, but all the pictures are it just standing there. I would guess that you can do some neat things using the clear three legged stands. I'd like to see a neat battle scene with Max & Milia each on a stand.

I think it is an accurate full length cockpit.

In general isn't the same true for all of the mecha in the movie. Why whouldn't the Zentradi have markings on their mechs? Don't they need unit numbers or some way to organize their millions of troops? Don't they need markings for the non-automated maintenance (there is always going to be some)?

Thanks for the quick review. I would have beeen nice of the pilot figure's feet were made flat so that she could stand. The post would be odd, but it would still be something. I have a one of my 1/48 pilots sitting on my shelf since they are complete little figures that look nice sitting on the edge of the stand. I agree about the decals too. A few caution looking symbols and some Meltran writing would look really nice. Thank you for the review!

Third Guess: Too big Fourth Guess: Too heavy to get fun poses I admire Yamato for doing this in scale, but I think some people may be a little shocked at just how big it is going to be. I think the box may be the biggest yet. I also think the size and weight are going to have an effect on the ability to get dymanic poses.

I don't think the sculpt looks all that bad, but Im not sure how much desire I have to spend $40 for a toy that has a swappable nosecone and a removable landing gear - not to mention isn't in scale with anything in my collection. I have very little doubt that a larger, perfect transformation version is on the way. This one is always branded the Yamato Simple Transformation VF-0 as opposed to the Yamato VF-0 Ah, who am I kidding, I'll pick the 1/100 up. I'm addicted to valkyries after all.

Definately a great idea!

Yamato doing anything for DYRL 20th anniversary?
VF-1Guy replied to Shin Densetsu Kai 7.0's topic in Toys
Maybe the 1/60 Monster & the flight Helmets will be DYRL Anniversary items? Maybe the new YF-19FP will be a Mac+ Anniversary item? -
For me it's A, C & D. I think that $170 each is too much to spend for a color scheme that I'm not particularly fond of on a toy that I have 5 varients of already.

I voted no, but I may rethink that if the prices eventually drop.

Official Transformers Alternators and more thread.
VF-1Guy replied to David Hingtgen's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
??? His source? Link? This name had occured to me. I finally decided it was the shape of the door wings that caused the idea to pop into my head. I never had Skids, so I'm not sure what his head looks like. I still think Jazz would be a better fit, especially if the red color is not final. -
I voted no. They have no reason to make an english language website other than to cater to lazy, whiny english speaking fanboys like us which are not their active market. I'm a businessman myself and I have to vote how I think they should act. (read my sig now) How hard is it to create an English link/site using JS, Flash, XML, and HTML codes? Talk about being lazy. Creating a multi-lingual website is not a trivial task. It is not another line of code or a 'Save As...' option in your editor. Remember languages are complex things. It is not a simple look-up translation. There are issues with parts of speech, tenses, word order, local slangs, exceptions to rules, etc. To see for yourself, get a document written in Latin and a Latin-to-English dictionary. You'll probably be able to find the english meaning for the various words, but you won't be able to put them into an meaningful order. The longer and more complex the sentence, the worse it gets. A multi-lingual website is certainly doable, but it would require resources. Corporations don't usually have resources just sitting around, especially in the current economic climate. Using an existing resource means you will take a hit in another area. Getting a new resource costs money. Neither one is an effective use of money considering that Yamato can't sell directly to this market.

I voted no. Company websites rarely have useful information and I'd rather see the money spent on product development. I'm guessing there isn't one word about the 1/100 VF-0 on their website and look what we know already. An english translation of some of the Japanese message boards would probably be more useful.

Grr. You beat me by 3 minutes!

New pictures and info available at Raving Toy Maniac. The metallic paint looks to be gone. Unfortunately, the canopy looks to be painted. What use is a pilot figure if you can't see it? More info at Toy Fair. RTM Article

I've always felt that we get the product info enough in advance to plan the budgeting. The least notice we get is 1 month. It is usually more. We also know that the trend lately has been to put out one regular product a month. Jan - 1/60 Q-Rau Feb - 1/60 GBP (armor or combo) Mar - 1/48 Max Apr - 1/48 Milia May - 1/100 VF-0S

We're not planning for kids for another couple of years, but I've been thinking about this already. My collection is in an IKEA case with glass doors (see link in my sig). My plan is to mount a couple of those brass hinge & loop lock things (like on a treasure chest) at the top of the case. The hinge will connect to the inside of the doors at the top edge. The loop will be mounted on the top of the case. That way, the lock is 7' off the ground and the whole assembly mostly hidden.

I'm an engineer and like all engineers, I like engineering marvels of all types. So I like complex toys with an intricate and perfect transformation. I much prefer a battroid mode that actually comes from the fighter mode as opposed to something that is totally accurate to the anime. To me it looks more realistic. The 1/100 Zero sounds a lot like the old Bandai 1/72 transformable models which I never liked that much. I'm just not a fan of disassemble one form and assemble a new form. I'll still pick one of these up in hopes that there will be a larger perfect transformation one later.
