THE UN-OFFICIAL COLOR SCHEME THREAD
Talos replied to the white drew carey's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
The only one I can recall offhand is the colored decal markings guide from the Hasegawa VE-1 kit. The one on this site. It's one of the blanks I've intended to draw sometime, in the far future at least. XD -

What I do is I set the lineart as the top layer. This would make the image all white with the black linework, but I set the layer mode to "multiply", then I have the other things on lower layers. Each of those VF-4s I posted a bit ago has, for example, 85 layers. I'm using GIMP, so I'm not sure where that option is in Photoshop, so you'll have to look around. -

Ah, it feels nice to go back and work on some more VF-4s. Here's SVF-143 Pukin' Dogs. -

Thanks, hellohikaru! I had to do a lot of the detail based on the "full-detail" picture of Basara's VF-19 in Kawamori's Macross Design Works book. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. As far as my coloring/shading job, I'm at here so far: -

I finished the lineart for the VF-19F, so I thought I'd post the blanks here for anyone who wants to do their own. I provided one without markings and another with stripes and roundel. -

Just as a teaser, here's what I have so far since I started shading and coloring the VF-19F. I'll post the finished lineart later for people who want to do their own coloring work. -

Thanks, hellohikaru. Your VF-19F was one big reason I did it. It was well-done for the references you had and I wanted to improve on it. Heck, your VF-2SS SAP is part of the inspiration for the non-SAP VF-2SS I'm doing too. -
They extend. That's what the arrows in the second picture Mr. March attached are indicating.

Thanks, guys. Got a lot more of the VF-19F done today. I'm looking forward to color schemes on that one more then the VF-19A, since I haven't seen many good and accurate ones on it ever. -

Previews of a couple other line-art profiles I've been working on. -
Glad I could help! I used those to draw the F-14 tail insignia to use for my VF-4 profile drawings. (I did a squadron marked as SVF-225)

Something like this? http://www.macrossworld.com/macross/models...f14/hasef14.htm http://www.macrossworld.com/macross/models...F14_Dec_Ins.jpg

I'd also suggest this one to the OP too. I have one other SVX-4 VF-4 planned.

I did it for a VF-4 profile, at least (soon to be updated to my current version, including cockpit).

Back in the Cold War days, the Soviet VVS would equip aircraft with a semi-active radar homing (SARH) and an imaging infrared (IIR) version of the same missile. The pilot would fire both, because it was thought that the western pilot would spoof one of them, but wouldn't counter the other. Also, during the Vietnam war, it was typical to launch two missiles in quick succession because of unreliability. So pretty close! In real life, the AIM-9's performance envelope is a lot shorter then the AIM-120. It's supposed to engage targets inside the AIM-120's minimum range. The AIM-9 doesn't operate into the AIM-120's envelope. I don't have the numbers on me right now, since I just woke up, but I'll look for them later.

Those bumps are only seen on the F-14B and late F-14A (they were a retrofit), and are the best way of seperating the F-14D from those models if you can't see the dual IRST/TCS chin pod. The F-14D incorporated those antenna flush into the airframe and they're simply missing on the earlier F-14A. I did a lot of research into the Tomcat when I was doing my F-14E/F/EF-14G VF-0/F-14 meld designs a couple years ago. As you can see in the above pictures, Shin's Tomcat has AIM-9 Sidewinders on the Wing glove sub-pylons and AIM-120 AMRAAM on the main ones and the four fuselage Sparrow hardpoints. The real Tomcat was never deployed with AIM-120 and carried AIM-7 Sparrows until its 2006 decommissioning.

I have a couple VF-4s finished, just waiting for me to write the backgrounds and a couple other Macross projects. Here's something I'm working on too, though I'm waiting for better scans of the SAP schematics in, I think, the TIA Macross II or one of the EBs. This, by the way, won't be SAP equipped, but the basic plane. -

Hey now, I'm having fun with the VF-4s! The nice thing about it is that I'm doing all the parts as seperate images, basically. The Ghost, the two missile pods, the FAST packs, they're all being done seperately from the VF-0 and pasted in. I was working on the Ghost earlier today, actually. My eventual goal is to do most of the variable fighters in Macross. I started on a non-SAP VF-2SS recently too. -
Amazing work, anime52k8! *waits for MisaForever's jaw to pick up off the floor*

Just something I'm working off-and-on on. Ignore the shading, the Ghost is new, the VF-0 is one of my earlier works and I need to start the shading/highlighting almost from scratch. More VF-4's coming soon, probably tomorrow. -

Thanks, Mr. March! Excerpt from VF-4 Lightning III 2012-2047: 35 Years of Service Figure B1 and B2: (403/189403 and 088/192088) Most long-range colony missions and planetary installations maintain a squadron of pilots with a secondary mission of providing OPFOR (Opposing Force) aggressor aircraft for pilot and gunnery training. On the Megaroad-8 mission and several others, the fighters were commonly painted in differing camouflage schemes or high-visibility schemes to set them apart from friendly craft. These two fighters display a pair of color variations of just one of the bewildering array of Megaroad-8 aggressor schemes. The blue craft displays the cobra head insignia common to many of the aggressor units deployed on colony missions, while the green and tan example was the commander’s craft and has a personal insignia, a Japanese kamon crest of a lotus (蓮) painted on the tail. -

I got most of what I wanted done on the VF-4 and I've been sitting on this scheme and wanted to get it out, so this'll do until I redo the cockpit and tweak some other stuff. Call it version 1.8 instead of 2.0. Excerpt from VF-4 Lightning III 2012-2047: 35 Years of Service Fig. E: (White 8/199302) One of the most colorful Lightnings in active service is this example from Eden. Assigned to the aggressor unit for the New Edwards Test Flight Center, this particular VF-4 is painted in a striking purple and gold color scheme with markings from the pre-Space War I Anti-UN coalition. According to the unit historian, the first commander of the squadron was a veteran of SVF-1 Skull Squadron in the pre-war years and had his personal craft painted in the scheme of an Anti-UN pilot he had flown against. When the squadron replaced it's VF-1s with new VF-4s, he painted his new mount in the same scheme and it survived after his retirement a few years later. Even after the squadron transitioned to new types, this VF-4 was maintained until it was retired in 2042 and given to the New Edwards base museum for preservation and display. As a final honor for it, one of the squadron's newer VF-22S Sturmvogel IIs was painted in the same colors. -

Yeah, they do. Looking at it, and remembering that I used the Zero helmet as a base, so I'm going for more of the 90% right on the helmet, it looks like most of what I saw in the animation was right. XD I'll tweak it, and do the proper FB2012 shoulders, but it shouldn't be too much of a problem.
