Robotech Re-mastered basically Animeigo DVD set?
Anubis replied to sidearmsalpha's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I'm pretty much certain Animeigo's Shin and co. said they footed the bill for the remaster themselves, rather proudly too. -
We could always use flight suit Millia.

Damn, I forgot all about that. While I don't want it personally, though some guys were asking about a Sentinels release in a thread a while back. I should have remembered to put that when I posted about the sale. Oops. Maybe it will continue again in the new specials starting tomorrow. I'll make sure I mention it this time if it does. I'm actually thinking about using the box it comes in too. Picking out some MPlus art, going down to kinko's having it printed out on some decent paper, and making my own Macross Plus 3 disc box set. Not a bad idea really. Maybe size it and print it on some Avery full sheet labels, then trim and stick it on. If I'm not mistaken, the big remaster was a pet project for Animeigo. They could have released much earlier, but they purposefully took like another year to make sure they fine tooth combed all the footage. I doubt HG was that generous to help them share the burden, and I think while the process was ongoing Animeigo said it was their investment. Animeigo took up the entire remaster cost. At first it was just going to be a clean up like what HG did with Southern Cross in the end, but Animeigo decided to do a full remaster of the footage they recieved from HG. The before and after pics were impressive. -
No toys for you. Come back one year. Sounds like it was a lot of fun.

HG probably stuck a clause for rights to use Animeigo's cleaned up footage in their initial lisence contract, though I still think it's kind of messed up to bank off of Animeigo's work. I do hope they at least credit them in the RT dvd credits. -
I'm not advocating jailbait or anything, I'm just saying they're supposed at least attempt to stick to the original story as best as they can. It's supposed to be about screwed up teens (and their screwed up adult superiors). Since it is a movie adaption of the show, kicking the ages up to the 16-19 range for the trio I could deal with. It certainly would help with the casting at a minimum with an increased pool to draw from, so that would be reasonable, and eliminate any worries about what content can safely port over into the movie version. I agree some things just wouldn't fly in a live action version, especially in the states, if they were 14. The girls in the pics though look like their late 20's, which wouldn't seem right at all given the subject matter of the original. I just hope they don't increrase their ages too much. For now I chalk it up to a bad concept artist. The name changes would really piss me off though if they go through with that.

Which it isn't in stock online usually either, and if it is, it's the same price as the store. Might as well buy it from DVD Planet anyway. It's a shame, they used to be so good with the anime section. Now, when they have a huge anime section, over double what they had last year in store, they start to want too much for the discs. <_< At least they price regular movies very good still. I'll go there for that at least.

List your top ten Anime/OVA/other of all time!
Anubis replied to 91WhiskeyM6's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
1. Macross (all inclusive) 2. Crest of the Stars (inc. Banner of the Stars I and II) 3. Rurouni Kenshin (OVA + TV excluding Season 3) 4. Neon Genesis Evangelion 5. Escaflowne 6. Transformers: The Movie 7. Gundam (Universal Century) 8. FLCL 9. Berserk 10. El Hazard Original OVA A few honorable mentions: Cowboy Bebop, Serial Experiments Lain, Fushigi Yugi (TV), Lodoss War OVA, Ai Yori Aoshi, Ah My Goddess, Jin-Roh, Akira, Vampire Hunter D (both), the Tenchi OVA (especially now that OVA 3 has started its release), and Inu Yasha. -
If it was a proper SD and not a Kubrick I'd snatch it up in a second.

Looking at that pic, I hope it's just that the concept artist that sucks, because those look like adults, not 14 year old screwed up kids like it's supposed to be. <_<

Actually, the New Macross-class city vessel was bigger, wasn't it? Also, lots and lots of Zentradi labor were likely put into finishing it. So it could be possible, once you excise the beauracratic roadblocks and budget issues we have today.

I do hope this isn't a matter of HG raping Animeigo after all the work they put into remastering the footage. "By the way, since we own the lisence, we're going to use the footage you remastered for so long" "Excuse me?" HG sucks. I hope Animeigo gets some credit at least for their work, and saw some compensation as well. But that's a contract matter. -
There's an HK rip of that already? Is the 5.1 audio on it too? I so want an R1 release of it, but I know Gainax is going to be bitches about lisencing it out.

It's a shame too, because they used to be very reasonable on discs. They never charged more than 25 bucks, usually 20-22. They still price all their regular DVD's properly. Some of the anime disc+box releases are still decently priced too. IT'S DISCRIMINATION I TELL YOU My anime dollars will just have to stay online is all.

Check this out: a 10 inch Unit 01 kubrick. I was almost tempted to pick one of these up, but no. It's just...cute... and funny. Link

The thing is, 19.99 IS the MSRP for most of the Signature series, so stores that are charging that are actually overcharging. The original MSRP's were 29.99 like the majority of anime titles, though they can always be found for cheaper. Others MSRP for 24.99. Best buy has been very off lately. Some anime discs have been normal price, but they have been sneaking higher prices in lately, and I can't fathom why. Their anime sections have gotten better than they have ever been, and now they try to raise prices? Example: they just kicked Chobits up to 29.99, each of all 6 volumes out. There was still a vol. 2 with a 22.99 tag on the shelf, all the rest were raised. Then they "accidentally" charged 33.99 for Last Exile Vol.1, without the box. And yes, the one here had the Geneon Signatures for the 19.99 price point. I don't know what their game is lately. I do all my anime pre-orders online at Right Stuf, but it was nice to have Best Buy as a fallback for existing discs, so I wouldn't have to use DVD Planet as much like I did during my time in Utah, where there was no Best Buy. Online you should be able to find them for 15 bucks. A Pioneer/Geneon studio sale at right stuff will kick ass once more of these discs come out.

Given their size, I don't really mind 1/60 enemy mecha. I wouldn't even mind 1/72 honestly.
-
Pre-ordered my Q-rau from Tam already. I'm going to do a head swap with my old 1/60 Roy 1S (non-FP) and make my new Max 1A a 1S, and then maybe re-paint the A-head roy into a Kakizaki 1A. Then Millia will have some friends to play with.

What's wrong with my Yamato, Bandai, etc.
Anubis replied to UN Spacy's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
My intakes are cracked too on my Hikaru 1A. I'm going to go to the model shop and see if they have any of that PlastiWeld or whatever it was, and see if I can fix it with that. Testor's model cement did nothing. If I can't fix it then it will just stay if fighter mode permanently. -
Dear god no. I have to check the interview myself once my copy arrives. I actually had hopes they weren't going to screw this one up. If anything I'll watch it no matter what either way, so I can appreciate the show and the manga that much more. There is still time though..... I don't see how it could be worse than G-saviour, but who knows. I'm expecting Guyver "quality" at best. Set the bar low, maybe we'll be surprized. The manga is awesome at least.

Bases on your examples, I would seriously recommend Crest of the Stars, as well as Banner of the Stars I and II. Very good, serious sci-fi. I would also remommend Serial Experiments Lain (if you want a mind trip), Full Metal Panic (has a fair balance between military aspects and high school comedics, no SD), Cowboy Bebop if you have not seen it already, Hellsing, and the Rurouni Kenshin OVA. The Gundam Movie Trilogy Box is a good place to start with gundam, with UC, for some vintage goodness. After that Gundam 0080, 8th MS Team, and 0083, in that order. I have heard good things about Vampire Princess Miyu and Boogiepop Phantom. I have not seen either yet though, they are on my extensive backlog. For the "occult" item, there is always Vampire Hunter D (either of them) and maybe Wicked City, though that one dances the edge of becoming a demon hentai instead of just a horror.

Exactly, they are just resoliciting older titles again with lower price points. Lain, Sailor Moon, Trigun, Tenchi, and some other titles are seeing the price reduction, subsequent volumes will also come in time. PS2's greatest hits is a pretty close comparison.
