Star Wars Episode 3 Spoilers Thread
CoryHolmes replied to zeo-mare's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Me, too. As cool as they are, the Jedi of this time period royally deserve to be pasted. They really, truely need to have their asses handed to them. So there'll be at least one other person with the, "Go Evil!" sign in the audience -
Sadly enough, it's a style of story that has been copied and copied and copied ad nauseum by a large number of shows since that are trying to capitalize on Eva's success. However, I draw the line at shows that more or less openly copy elements of Evangelion. Those I avoid on general principle.

There's a misconception that the pilot's mothers NEED to be "absorbed" into the EVA to allow it to be piloted. I think logically that this isn't the case. It JUST SO HAPPENED that Asuka and Shinji's mom got synced/partially synced into those EVAs...and due to that reason, as finding pilots that can sync at least 50% with the EVA was hard (as shown by Rei and her difficulty syncing with EVA00), chances of syncing were found to be better when anomalies like EVA01 and EVA02 happened..ie moms get sucked in. Remember that all students in class 2-A are potential pilots which probably have higher sync-rates than other students in the school or all over the world. Thus the idea that every eva has to have a soul of its pilot's mother is not accurate. More or less what I meant. By having Instrumentality, the person gets to shape the world to his wishes...well not REALLY to his wishes...but more like a choice of objective answers. 1.) everyone dies 2.) everyone becomes this big Lilith human evolution thing (opposite to shinji's choice) 3.) only I exist 4.) I am who I am (shinji's choice) That's why I said, "not quite". I'm well aware that all the kids in his class were potential pilots. I was just pointing out that yes, Asuka's mother is partially inside of Unit 02.

The blond woman was Dr. Ritsuko Akagi, head scientest of NERV, Chairperson of Project E, and one of the architects of Commander Ikari's plans for 3rd Impact. Her mother was the chief scientist of the MAGI supercomputers. The MAGI were given the capacity to emulate human dillema and thought processes by Naoko Akagi by imprinting her own personality on them. Each computer got a seperate aspect of her mind. Herself as a scientest, herself as a mother, and herself as a woman. In this way, each computer would have a slightly different outlook on life and come up with possibly different responses to stimuli.

I think it just so happened that EVA01 had his mom's soul, which Shinji's mom synced with during a training exercise. I don't think EVA02 had Asuka's mom's soul thus why EVA01 was the only EVA to seem to have a life of its own....much to the amazement of Gendou and the rest of NERV command. Not quite. Asuka's mother WAS involved in the Unit 02 synchronization experiments. It's just that when she started to get absorbed into Unit 02, the control technitions were able to stop the process and bring her back. Physically. Mentally, there was still a part of her mind inside of Unit 02, which is why said mother had a rather sever mental collapse and went whacko. This "partial absorbtion" can be seen during the 15th Angel's assault on Asuka's mind. Unit 02 tried to berzerk to save Auska, but there just wasn't enough of Kyoko's (?) mind inside the Eva to make it happen. I saw it differently. I saw Gendo as using Insturmantality and controlling the Third Impact such that it would allow him to reshape the world according to his wishes... and he wished to bring his wife back to life. To that end, he was using everyone, as you said. I just think he was using them to get Yui back.

Eh? People would complain about seeing Misa's cleavage? Boy there must be some real weirdos out there ... We've already seen Misa's cleavage. We want something new. Like Millia boobies. Seen them, too. Try again

*snicker* Don't tell that to the RPG nazi's on Palladium's boards. They swear that anything shown in the books is canon and the show(s) doesn't matter. Yes, and the same thing happens at RT.com, here at MW.com, even over at the Compendium... I spend time here to disucss Macross. I go to RT.com to discuss canon Robotech. I go to the PBs boards to discuss the Robotech world that they presented (which is my favourite of the three, really). Are the games inaccurate? God, yes. Are they the best example of an RPG? Not really. Are they fun, giant robot carnage games? Absolutly. Most of the changes PB made, aside from stats and such, were mostly for game balance, I find.

Science and Technology MEGA THREAD
CoryHolmes replied to Max Jenius's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Let the cloning begin. Maybe I'm being too optimistic but I don't think after the possible outcomes proposed in the Jurrasic Park novels (and visuals from the films) that anybody would be stupid enough to try to cloning this tissue. I doubt they would even go as far as some low level stem cell ressearch beyond just trying to get a better grasp on what a T-Rex may have looked like on the exterior. I wouldn't be surprised if they tried to sequence the entire genome of a T-Rex, just to say that they've done it and to possible compare it with modern species, to see if there's any definitive evolutionary and genetic linages. But as for complete cloning? I don't know about that. Our current cloning technology is still in its infancy and we haven't even come close to perfecting the process. -
As much as I love the Guyver (I own both movies on VHS and DVD, all the translated Manga, all of the animated series, plus the Out of Control OVA), I find that the story suffers from excessive power creep and monster-of-the-week syndrome. All that said, I really want to see what this new story is. If it's just an update of the original show, that'd be great. If it's something new, that'd be even better. (of course, I AM someone who keeps hoping for a 3rd movie...)

"Stealth" aboard USS Abraham Lincoln
CoryHolmes replied to Shake n Bake's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
At the very least, the effects in the trailer looked reasonably impressive. I'm going to reserve my judgement on the story and plot until I actually see it. ... but I wouldn't be surprised if my opinion comes out wholly different from the rest of these boards -

Yup,and in that same interview he also said that he "could" pull it back a little to get the lower rating, but he doesn't want to. Chris And you have to admit, he's stuck to his guns so far in regards to telling the sort of story that he wants to tell, not quite what the fans want to see. I'd be very surprised if he pulls it back to a PG rating, if only because there's no studio involved to force him to do so. -
Where ELSE For Star Wars Discussion?

TheForce.net is also a good place to go. -
I couldn't have said it any better myself

As great as it would be to see Venom as the baddie, I figure they need to spend at least one film setting up the whole backstory between Brock, Parker, and the costume. Trying to cram all that story into one film, plus having Venom as Brock/Suit itself is just too much.

Hmm, I guess this makes me the odd man out (again ) in that while I enjoy snippets of all types of music, I'm really a sucker for classical music. And I do mean *classical* music. Bach, Pachabel, Mozart... they're all good.

You know, if the members of these boards were a little more adult and mature when it comes to Robotech, this might actually be a good chance to sit down and rationally discuss the differences between the two shows, instead of simply yelling and screaming at each other. EDIT: And for the record, Macross are the Jedi and Robotech the Sith. If only because Macross came first, and Robotech is the off-shoot that grew from that.

Dude lay off the sauce lol, don't know where you got those two mixed up but the only relation Galatica and Starwars had in common was space battles in fighter planes against an evil fleet of menacing evil guys......yeah. but that's still really funny >< I was just making a funny but i am curios as to what fly's the cyclon ships, is it organic or what? It's a little hamster that runs around in a wheel inside the Raider's main body. Every time the wheel makes one full revolution, the red light slides side-to-side on the "face" of the Raider.

Episode I: The Phantom Menace. During Qui-Gon's funeral service, Yoda and Windu are off to one side discussing recent events. Yoda: Only two there are. A master and an apprentice. Windu: But which was destroyed? The master, or the apprentice? -

Oh, I think it was very easy for Palpatine to escape Jedi suspicion, if only because the Jedi of this time are insular, content to sit inside their ivory tower with the knowledge that they're on top of everything that needs knowing in the galaxy. -

I'd go a few steps farther and say that an angry Wookie is a SCARY Wookie. I don't know about you, but I'm rather fond of having my arms still in their sockets, thank you very much. -
Well, the only reason they were nice and tidy in the mini was that they were painted up to be sitting in a museum...much like a vintage car or plane would be today. Some people I know who've seen only the shots of the "pristine" looking Vipers without watching it asked me about that and when they finally saw the mini...went..."OH!!!...Now that makes sense!" That's exactly my point
-
One thing I really like about this show is how dirty and grungy the Vipers are. They have debris, soot, and blaster marks scorring their hulls. I remember early on that some people were complaining that they were too neat and tidy and gleaming. I'm glad that they were wrong (eventually) and that they DO look used.

Walmart and Target have been undercutting their prices for quite some time now, especially during the holiday shopping season.
