Hi, Vinyl glues (a.k.a. white glue) can be diluted with water if you need it thinner.
-
Heh. Methinks an extra letter might be needed. D 'oh!

(Stunned.) You're absolutely right. I'd never thought of it that way for some reason, but if the VF-1D wasn't intended for combat, why would Misa have ordered Hikaru to take off? I said that well before!!! But seems nobody reads my posts Quoting myself (this same thread december 22): It was used in combat: in Mars, in Macross City (remember Hikaru shooting ?? ), in the battle after the wedding, It was used as an Elint fighter as the VEFR-1... The VF-1 is a fighter. Before the war I'm sure it was used for advanced training but later was used just as another VF.
-
As always: good job!! I love that Arcadia, a piece of art!! One of my favorite starships!! The VF-11 is also very nice as well as the Quedluun. Maybe is the flash effect but I think a satin finish would be better for the Quedluun. The shading work is very good in all the models. Thanks for sharing!!

If you look for different paint schemes Hasegawa provides alternative decals for a different paint scheme (lo viz VF-EX) with it's VF-1D kit I know what the compendium says about the VF-1D, but there are some hints that indicates it was intended to use it as a trainer as it's primary role: Consider the VF-1D VT-102: a- Color scheme: orange is clearly a non-fighting color. I think the original idea was to paint it as the US Navy trainers of the '70s (white and red/orange) b- The T in VT-102 means something??? c- In Macross Perfect Memory book (i.e. canon info) there is a detail of the canopy that shows both the name of the instructor (Capt. Dagger ? ) and "student" seat. Of course after the war started all resources were commited to the war effort including trainers (most modern trainers have a combat role too) It was used in combat: in Mars, in Macross City (remember Hikaru shooting ?? ), in the battle after the wedding, It was used as an Elint fighter as the VEFR-1...

You are right. But that scene was reproduced in a poster in the TIA books so it is easy to spot the different valks there. The Macross model book 1 have a couple of model of it too. Those are books from the 80's released soon after the TV series so we had that information pretty soon. BTW: somebody just posted askeing about the funny chinese!! Now that's funny!!!
-
Not at all! Well as find those threads in the old forums... who knows where they could be now. But the thing here is like this: a) somebody find the funny chinese/Orguss valk/Arcadia zentradi ship/want to know hot the pilot seat in a Quedluun Rau, etc. b) post asking about it c) Lot of people answer the topic since is fascinating!!! (I love those topics) d) time passes over and the topic is lost... e) go to a) That's the way it is... but I like it. It would be fine if someone as Nanashi or Egan Loo make some official site with this obscure subjects (in fact Nanashi has/or use to have a web page about some of them)

From the Yellow Sub instructions: EDIT: sorry, just discoverd you can't post images while quoting...just link them..

Graham, thanks for answer. Yamato has based some of their toys designs in preexistent Macross resin model kits, so I wouldnt be surprised they followed the Yellow Sub QR model design for positioning the pilot. Vespaeda: I'm glad to see this is an ongoing debate!! Here we have the saddle-like seat again!! Though the idea of the pilot seated in sai za position is really interesting I can´t see how that could fit with the Gold Book artline. I know we can´t see the kness of the pilot in that pic but: if she were on her kness the artist should have drawn her ankles and the lower part of the legs, didn't he? BTW: the QRs are seated for storage?? I thought that those were toilets!!!
-
That's exactly what I think. Graham could confirm or denied this. Pleassssse GRAHAAAAM!!!!!! BTW: We used to have a meltran member that had another theory: there is a saddle-like seat in the QR and the pilot is seated on it but her legs a bent as if she were on her knees (more ore less like a motorbike racer) The line art from the gold book (the one showing the pilot into the QR) contradicts her theory since the pilot legs seems to be straight (and, IMHO, into the tighs)
-
Seems like the White Drew Carey posted as the same time as I did WDC: you ilustrated the point clearly. Yellow sub solved this by making the back pack closer to the main body. But since it is Graham who posted that I beleive that is an indication of how Yamato would fit the pilot figure... A pilot toy would have to have flexible legs to fit her/his (Max ) into the tighs and it would be quite tricky to fit the pilot into the QR toy (I was making some experiments with a Bandai QR and the pilot would have to adopt an spread eagle position to put her legs into the tighs... ) PS: this is one of my favorites debates in MW. It comes to light every three or four months toghether with the VEFR-1 debate (other favorite!! ) EDIT: added YS comment

SV-51's feature in Macross Zero ep. 3
Gerwalker replied to Final Vegeta's topic in Movies and TV Series
The wing folding capacity surely resembles that from the YF-21 (that was also inspired from the real life bomber XB-70 Valkyrie) But the way the SV-51 wings folds IMHO is based on the Boeing's stealth demonstrator Bird of Prey design (remember SK is a fan of the X designs): -
That's the way the Yellow Sub resin model "solved" the problem. It is the best solution for a rigid (resin) pilot since it would be difficult to accomodate a model pilot in other way (Bandai just cut the legs of the pilot !!) But I think that the art work in the Gold Book doesn't shows the pilot leaning forward as it would the case with fitting the legs in the rear back part. The art work seems to indicate that the pilot's legs go into the thighs. BUT: this remark coming from you could indicate that Yamato has chosen the Yellow sub solution for the pilot legs of their 1/60 QR !!!! And that would make it official!! (finally we would have an answer to this old question, like it or not) Any comments? In any case, thanks Graham!!

Greetings Commander! So the Funny Chinese did appear in the TV Series. Can you be specific which part of the series it appeared? I think a lot of MW fans have started looking at the Series for the Funny Chinese By the way, does somebody here know whythey called it "Funny Chinese"? What does VEFR mean anyway? Thanks! gian7675 Just look for this picture in the TV series (final battle against Bodolza sp? fleet) I have encirlcled in green the so called Funny Chinese (VEFR-1) Some day I will finish a gerwalk model of it that I started building more than a year ago... some day... If you get a better res pic you could see that it has super parts in the legs but not in in the back. In the old forums we used to have interesting discussions about the VEFR-1 And yes, it is called funny chinese because of the battroid mode ressembling a chinese with hat. Nanashi used to have a good technical report of this VF-1 variant (it is a modified VF-1D)

Because she just doesnt care at all !!!! Misa is cold hearted. More seriously, i don't remeber seeing the Funny Chinese Dish Valk in the show Do you mean there is one at the final space combat of Macross? When the 4 millions space ships are destroyed? I'm going to check that tonight. It's possible because there are so many planes in that particular scene. It would be easier if you look in the TIA book poster that depicts the SDF-1 and the fleet ready for fighting (actually the animation of that scene is just the camera moving over that same static picture... ) Good hunting!!

Niiiiice! It is good to see some clean valks time to time. I mean, this valk should be clean since it was painted just for the concert. Thanks for sharing

Which is your favorite Star Wars movie?
Gerwalker replied to Jolly Rogers's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
FYI: Macross is a Sci-Fi show/movie... Do you think it is a Sitcom? IMHO Macross has strong influences from SW: starfighters battles, spaceships being blown away, starships destroying a planet, gigantic spaceships, etc. I know, Uchu Senkan Yamato came before SW and already had most of those elements... For me ESB is the best, followed by ANH (hey that movie IS SW!!!) -
I remember a FSM article about a blackwidow with raised panel lines. The guy first painted silver and then black. Afater the black paint dries he light sanded the panel lines so the silver showed up. He did it subtely and the model looked great. But this is more a weathering technique since it reproduces the wear of paint in those areas such as panel lines and ribets. For a F-18D (Italeri with raised panel lines) I built some time ago I sanded most of the and rescribed them but in the wings I just postshaded them using Gunze clear smoke and a post-it: I painted the panel lines following the air stream direction, put the post-it note paper touching one side of the panel and airbrushed the smoke paint. The results are good and it gives the feeling that the dirt accumulated in the panel lines was dragged by the air when flying.

Nice job!! I think it would do a good diorama with a couple of 1/72 techs looking inside the cockpit. BTW: does anyone remember The flight of the Intruder? There is a very (suspiciously sp? ) simmilar scene where the deck crew peered into the blood stained A-6 cockpit...

Any idea of the size of the GPB? I've seen the the previous vol. and they were very small.

looking sweet!! Keep posting!!

LTSO, Congrats for your new child!! Nice VF-4 there!! You use Super Jet glue, the best IMHO!!
-
Very nice!! I think that the lineart from the Macross Designs book would help you a lot. And yes, Geocities links dont work well in the forums (I have a friend that didn't believe me when I told him about that but it is true!! )

Yes, seems that we studied in different countries and Universities. Very funny. Though maybe if you compare your "womyn" with my chemistry, physics and math female students you would think about them as hot babes... BTW: I met my wife their but she studied biology and that's another kind of fauna. Biology girls students are very nice girls (that's why I always choose chemistry for biologyst when I used to be a professor )
