Man, the Shion figure & those stands are sooo good to complete the collection. I really want these, and it comes with a good price too. Just 3500yen!! Need to get the "stamp" from the Myth figure box, and also prove of purchase of the upcoming PS2 Seiya game, plus 3500yen. How many myth stamps you need, I am not too sure.

Yamato Escaflowne or Hasbro MPC Optimus Prime?
mpchi replied to shiyao's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
MP Convoy or Prime all the way here as well. With owning many of the more recent diecast detailed toys like SOC, Aoshimas, Binaltech, Yamato...etc. Prime is still on one of the best toy made in my collection, and definitely the most toy out of the money spent. I am not a big fan of Transformers, but the design & engineering in this toy is far superior to even some of the high end Bandai stuff. Its very solid, very heavy, very well built, and transforms very well. Seriously, I like a lot of other robots more than Prime, but looking at just the toy itself, very very few if any can top the quality of this thing in its price range. Yamato's Escaflowne is not even in the same league. -
Oooh~! Always wanted a great looking 12" Snake figure for a while now, but was sold out everywhere I go or the price was jacked up ridiculously. I just found one on ebay with pretty good price in the Zombie paint. There is like one or two left if you want to look. Hope the seller is legit, then I can score one without paying that much extra. Love the red square cameo, but can live without the face paint. The other version with the crocodile head is awesome! But don't like the outfit as much. Coool!

The recent Berserk 'brick' collection is a steal. $56.99 at Best Buy for a 25 episodes very good show. For on going DVD shows, Samurai Champloo & Gungrave are my recent favorite. Samurai Champloo is very high quality stuff, just like Bebop with swords. Gungrave is slightly less high quality on the animation department, but the storytelling & characters are awesome.

Thats why I put 'build quality' on my post. No doubt lots of Kaiyodo figures are very nice sculpt. But many are prone to breakage. My Vash got really loose arms, Wolfwood feels very fragile, both Kenshiro & Raoh 200X figures broke a joint on the leg, peg on the stand broke off and got stuck in the shoe heal...etc. And none of the breakage cost by a drop of any sort. Just broke when handling it, and I am very delicate with my toys. I guess Kaiyodo either improved their quality a lot in the pass couple years, or these two figures are of the higher end release, as Beyond the Grave is the first in my small Kaiyodo collection to ever have ratchet joints and tight normal joints. Definitely a big step up on the engineering side.
-
Beyond The Grave seems to have the more appealing overall design out of the two, though its an older release. The new figure looks impressive, but mainly on the Big Gun. The figure itself doesn't look as hot, especially the face. Looked too comical on the eyes it seems. But still a very good looking figure, but with a pretty high price tag. I did get Beyond The Grave some months ago, and still love it very much. The only Kaiyodo figure that I can actually brag about its build quality.

Here is my suggestion if you are selective: Gold: 1) Sagittarius - Most important Gold Cloth in the show with overall best sculpt, great toy quality, big unique wings & a Seiya head. 2) Leo or Capricorn - Leo is still the most poseable out of all Gold, looks pretty cool overall, but not as grand as Sagittarius or slick like Capricorn. But it got movable waist joint under the armor, while all the others don't. Capricorn on the other end looks hot, best fitment, but slightly retarded eyes But he does look especially good in person. Picture doesn't do it justice 3) Aquarius or Virgo - Both look kind of cool, but heck of stiff, due to armor design or hair piece always in the way for making cool pose. Both have some flaws on the look. Camus' face look strange and hair too thick, while Shaka's helmet is too big. The open-eye head looks kind of creepy. Bronze: Mostly passable unless you are collecting all. 1) Cygnus & Andromeda - Looks the best and most anime accurate. Both hair get in the way somewhat, but pose well on other areas. 2) Seiya & Ikki - Looks kind of good, but have a bunch of flaws. 3) Shiryu - Looks kind of jacked with many QC flaws. Serpries: Don't own one yet as its not released yet. Rhadamantis looks like a really good one if you like his design.

Got my Shura finally. Yup, the retarded eyes are there. But don't seem to be as bad as the pic suggested a few post above. But the rest of this toy is AWESOME! The leg armor fitment of this release is the best yet. Unlike the other release that get loose and falls down occasionally, this one fits tight and perfect. Really nice, big, heavy shoulder armors too! Shura has a lot of diecast, as only the belt & helmet is plastic. And his overall look & proportion looks really great! Look best with the mask, but helmet still look great and not oversize-looking like Shaka's. Other than the slightly retarded eyes, and the rotatable horns(nothing glue can't fix), everything is top notch, and no other QC issues found in this one! Shura is definitely among the top best Gold Myth releases so far, ranking on par with Sagitaurius & Leo, which all poses really well. Go get one if you have not already! EXCALIBAAAAAAR!!!

0080 - Very highly recommended. Minimum robot action, but very good human drama. 0083 - Recommended. Pretty show with much Gundam action & very cool mecha design. Story just ok, as I find Gou & Nina hard to relate to. 08th Team - Recommended. Not as strong in mecha design, but feel very down to earth mission stories that utilize more strategy than stuff like Newtype abilities or super talented pilots. F-91 - Just ok. Its not a bad show, but not particularly interesting compare to the others. The overall story seems to borrow different parts from previous UC series, while the artwork doesn't stand out that much either, as the animation is pretty old.

The final Bronze Seiya looks really good in that picture from a distance. Man, but I don't want to buy the bronze saints all over again....

Z Gundam DVD Set Myth or reality
mpchi replied to Otaku-Smeghead's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Regardless of comments & complains I've heard so far, I like what I am getting from this DVD set. Got it last night and started watching disc 1. The package is very nice overall, with the thin DVD cases & cool artwork on each of them. The box is cool too, though a little too big/loose with all the DVDs & the boolet inside. The booklet is thick & informative, though the page layout & design can be more attractive. Didn't expect to have an extra poster too. The DVD video, sound, and sub is all pretty good for a mid 80s show. Way cleaner than the Saint Seiya ADV release. And having the songs taken out didn't bother me much. I have the songs on CD anyway. As someone that never watched Zeta before (though own the manga), the show doesn't feel butchered or dumbed down in anyway. Think Bandai actually have a good release here. May not be perfect, as not everything is left intact, but a good release nontheless. Worth the $119 I've spent! -
Wow, just checked HLJ, the preorder for Libra is already closed! I didn't even get a chance to put my order. Guess I have to really keep an eye on it when it comes out.

Well, you'll probably appreciate it a whole lot more if you were a Saint Seiya fan, since it was a really popular series back in the days, and its not until 15 or so years later that these more proportionate diecast toys start to surface thanks to the recent Seiya revival in Japan. So its a really big kick for the fans. But for you, it would still be cool to just get one, as they are quality toys. They aren't really sturdy, cause their joints can get loose if you play with it a lot, and their diecast armors are heavy for their joints. But they are ultra cool being displayed in different poses, or if you put the Cloth/Armor in the Obje form. Very shiny sparkly armored figure that comes in a relatively low price. If you want one, either get the Leo or Sagitautious. They are the most well built & designed ones so far, with Leo being the most poseable(armor not in the way), while Sagitaurious looks fantastic with the overall look, big wings, & bow+arrow, while still more poseable than the stiffer Aquarius & Virgo. Though not all armor pieces in a figure are diecast, most of them are, with a couple pieces that are chrome plastic. (head piece, sometimes shoulder plate..) They are far from barbies with shiny armor.

Dude, Saint Seiya is all about elegant designs, so they are bound to be girly looking to an extend. I got Sagitaurius, and I can say its very very cool. Quality is top notch, on par with Leo, and better than Aquarius & Virgo. The extra Seiya head sculpt is SO NICE this time than the original Seiya, but it also pissed me off so bad that somehow they left out the sideburn on one side, making Seiya look like having a bad hair cut without head armor on. Really pissed the heck out of me. The facial features looked so much better on the new head, and is a tad smaller, and looks perfect on Seiya, but then they purposely messed up the sideburn without serving a single purpose.....man.... The rest of this figure is just great. No loose joints, very minor paint imperfection, great armor lock design & good poseability. As one of the most important Cloth in the whole show, they sure paid extra attention on this one. Another minor gripe, that Aiolos doesn't have a head band like he appears in the show. Great figure overall, and one of the best Myth Cloth release, if not the best.

Yeah dude! Nice find.

The movie has its great moments. Some scenes & action shots are really cool, oozing out S.I.C. goodness you find in the toys, but there is also a number of cheesy moments & bad acting there in the mix. Its one of those movie with great vision, awesome character/costume designs, but suffers in acting/script & budget. The 3D effects was pretty bad compare to today's standard, as the movie was a bit old. From early or mid 90s I think.
-
Wow! Looks very interesting. And they did a great job matching the animation without much CG stiffness. Did anyone know who's the game developer or publisher? Bandai? Don't seem to catch it in the movie...

Mine is on its way. Maybe in a couple of weeks. Wonder if the Gold Saints releases are going to take a break after Shura/Capricorn, as Ladamantis will be next up. And haven't really heard of any news about new upcoming Gold Saints. As a side note, just watched the new Seiya Movie - Tenkaihen Overture. Its very interesting, and very very pretty! Much prettier than the already very pretty Hades OVA. But also lot of talking, and quite differently paced from the normal Seiya movies we've seen before. It feels more mature with much less cheesiness, without following as much of the normal formula...(aka: Seiya gang got beat up real bad, then they wear the Gold Cloths with Seiya killing the main bad guy with the Sagitarius arrow), but some aspect of the story in this movie seem to break the continuity from previous TV & movies. It also drags quite a bit, as there are a lot more scenes & dialogues in between fights than the movies before. And it leaves you at a cliffhanger at the end that is even worse that the one in Hades OVA. But still very enjoyable nonetheless, and definitely the prettiest Seiya animation you've ever seen! Everywhere in this film ooze "quality production" here. I feel like this is definitely a good new direction for the revival of the Seiya franchise, by making Seiya feel slightly more mature for fans that are mostly all grown-ups by now, with a slightly different feel of storytelling. Just hope that they can tweak the pacing a bit tighter when doing similar projects, then it would really be great. Go watch it!

Its funny. I clicked on the French link first, and wondering why someone is doing a custom job of the toys but making the faces look worse. Its not until later then I realize they are $5 bootlegs.... Guess there is always a bootleg for every toy.
-
The movie is actually not bad. Smooth detailed animation for the time, with a good soundtrack. The story is almost identical to manga vol.1, only with very minor edits. I really don't see why Nagano despise it so much... The legit Japanese release can be found at Kinokuniya bookstores or the likes, costing around US$30. So not bad at all for a Japanese DVD release. And it is actually region 0, with English subtitle. Yup, you heard me right. Guess they made it to go with the international manga release, with the sub & region 0 and all. Very pretty cover, with a cardboard sleeve over a plastic DVD case, having the Knight of Gold & Lachisus illustration with a black background, the same one you see in the Japanese manga volume 1. Don't mistaken it as the HK bootleg though, as the HK one look similar, but don't have the fancy cardboard sleeve.

Awesome pics. Though I wouldn't have Astray Red stay in that pose for very long. Looks like the sword is bending, and will suffer gashapon disease if leaving as that for too long. I just got my shipment of some MSIA as well. A Quebeley, ZZ, The-O, and a Astray Red. Only opened Quebeley & ZZ, and they are very nice. Not the latest designs, but were well made. ZZ looks really cool, though the Double Beam Rifle is too loose on the folding & too heavy for ZZ to hold naturally. Otherwise, ZZ is great. Does anyone know an good site with lots of MSIA reviews? Even Japanese sites will do. Since Fantoysia was gone, I couldn't find good sites with in depth MSIA reviews. Thanks in advance.

All look very cool. Though wonder why Bahamut had gone such a radical change that it doesn't even look like a dragon no more. Know what company is making these?

The trading figures are cool. Where is a good place to find them? And so glad to hear that Geneon got the license of the new T-28 anime already. Man! Geneon seems to be getting a lot of the good shows I like lately, and pretty darn fast too! First Last Exile, then Gungrave, now Tetsujin 28 too! Yay! Hope I don't have to wait too long. Speaking of the SOC T-28, I am not as lucky to get a flawless toy. The right eye was painted off centered and has a right stare, a few paint chips, very loose hip on right leg, and having one elbow bending further than the other. This really flawed my experience with this otherwise awesome Fatty toy. But I'll learn to get used to it.

That sounds great for you guys. Saint Seiya however don't do so well here in the U.S. Though the myths are still available in major online or import stores, the domestic figures & DVDs sales seemed horrible. I was waiting and waiting for collecting the uncut version of Saint Seiya DVDs that ADVFilms put out once it gets to volume 9, which starts the Sanctuary fight with the Gold Saints. But when its due time for the vol.9 to come out, as of now, I see no trace of such upcoming DVD. Thought ADV just delayed the release, but then I couldn't even find any future release date anywhere from ADV's site & other major anime source. Its possible that Saint Seiya did so poorly that ADV's dropping MSRP price from $29.99 to $14.99 a pop is not enough to save it. It almost look like ADV has decided to stop releasing the Seiya DVDs for good... And I thought for once I could wait for a nice domestic release with perfect sub, start collecting when the Gold Saints saga begins. So sad... Hope I am so wrong on this, but don't know...

Just tried the demo on Robotech Invasion. I wouldn't call it total crap, but wouldn't spend any money to buy it or rent it either. It really feels like you can't do much in this game. Gameplay is too simple, and don't seem that fun. Graphics and animation are not that good either. With so many quality games out there now, I don't really see how Robotech Invasion can compete with others. Out of all the games shown on the OPM demo, Robotech Invasion ranks among the lowest, if not THE lowest on my book.
