  1. Haha . Don't get too excited. This is the OP of a PS1 Getter Robo video game that came out soon after Shin Getter: Last Day anime came out. I haven't play the game, but have seen videos and pics of it. Not that great and very blocky models. It plays a bit like the SRW turn base strategy game, just with 3D model animation for the fight scenes instead of the 2D SD sprites in SRW. So no, there is no 'hidden' Getter Robo series where this OP is from. The blue writing is "Daiketsen", meaning "Big decisive battle".
  2. The Aoshima/Miracle House Black Getter is about the height of the SOC Mazinger, slightly taller and much bulkier. They are heavy. If you know the Aoshima gokin line, they are well known for very few gimmicks and not very advance engineering, but lot of heft. Like 80-90% of the toy is diecast. I got the normal version Black Getter, which is a semi-flat paint finish, and the grey looks darker in person than pics you normally see online. Its very nice. And I like they really tighten the ankle joints to make the figure very stable in static poses, regardless its weight. But due to the limited range on ankle and hip movement, poses won't be super dynamic. Its an old fashion gokin afterall. Though more likely you will need to tighten the hip screws as the hips come in loose for quite a few people as the screws are not tightened, and make the legs seem to flop. But nothing a screw driver can't fix. They left a lot of room to tighten the crews up and mine is now nice and tight. Everything else is pretty sturdy and tight fitting as well. So overall, very highly recommended, and the best Aoshima gokin release so far. Just don't expect the complexity and gimmicks you will see in SOC. Otherwise, its very nice. Just watch out those sharp spikes when handling.
  3. Wow! Just finished watching the Ideon 2 part movies this weekend, Part 1 - A Contact, Part 2 - Be Invoked. And I just have to say.... WOW. Ideon has always been a 'GM Head' to me since childhood when I saw those toys, and never paid much attention to the show until I saw it in the SRW games, then this upcoming SOC release. So I decided to get the region 2 movie DVDs of it just to check it out (TV version is too long and too expensive). I was very impressed. It may not be a very pretty show (especially when quite a few parts of the movies are director cuts from 1980 TV episodes), but it is by far the most serious super robot anime show I saw that is from the 80s, and it is quite a bit ahead of many shows I can think of of its days. It feels and shares some similarities to the first Gundam show (same director) in terms of war and human drama. But the mysterious Ide really adds an extra layer on top of an already very good story. It feels like a real robot anime, though with a super robot in place. While Ideon still kicks ass in the show, it still opens up a lot of room for tragic moments when things just don't go smooth, and with the Ide power still a mystery to the people that uses it. And there are quite a few shocking moments in terms of how the characters we grew to love or hate end up in the end. So surprised that such a good show from 1980 wasn't talked about as much even among anime and super robot fans. It really deserves to be noticed, especially when this show is quite a few years earlier than likes like Macross, Votoms, Dunbine from that era. Now I see why Sunrise labeled Ideon as one of their Real Robot anime in a book I have, but not in the Super Robot anime list. The region 2 movie 2 DVD set is very nice, with a nice thin box storing the 2 DVDs in regular cases. DVD 1 even comes with a lot of cool extras, with tons of character bio, illustrations, even info on old toys of Ideon released back in the days. But one thing really bugs me is that, both movies don't have any chapter break inbetween, other than the opening and ending. Meaning you have to finish the whole movie in one sitting. Keeps me wondering why an official DVD release in recent years will do something like that?! o_O For those haven't watched the show, gotta go check this one out! While anticipating the SOC release.
  4. Haha. We are talking one of the best and the largest SOC here. Big Dan is one of the best for sure. Very sturdy, and everything locks and sits nicely together. Just the neck is a bit problematic, as there is no neck joint (can't even turn head) for a perfect transformation. But there is a jointed swapable neck you can switch with for posing. It worths every penny. My least favorite SOC is Zambot 3. Had a lot of QC issue, can't hold his weapons, no locking mechanism when there should, not working ratch joint, and the first and only SOC that ever breaks on me. I like Zambot 3 as a robot, but the toy is not that well designed. Using part of the tank as accessory tray is not very smart. Let alone it only hold some, but not all of the accessories. Then why bother and not just leave them all in box? If Zambot 3 is cheaper, then I'll be less critical on it. But its priced way up there almost at Dancouga level. Dan is way way better than Zambot 3. Though Zambot sure looks cool too.
  5. I have watched quite a few Kamen Rider shows, both old and new, and here are my 2 cents: Classic Kamen Riders (1, 2, V3, Riderman, X, Amazon, Stronger, Super 1, Sky Rider & ZX) - They are very memorable characters that begins it all, especially on 1,2, & V3. They pretty much set the premise on using the power of evil (Rider 1 & 2 were meant to be bad guys) and fight back against evil in the name of justice. Cheesy I know , but thats kind of cool too. However, the plot in most case are very simple & juvenille, and the action & effects are quite laughable at today's standard. If you are not familiar with them, I would go look up some of the Rider movies, where a few of them shows up together and fight side by side, just to get the feel of the classic stuff. Lookwise, I like these the best. Very bug-like, and retro. There is a current AWESOME manga called Kamen Rider Spirits, which literally revived these old time heroes into something very cool even at today's standard in an adult's eyes. Awesome art, action, and storytelling. Top quality stuff! Go read this manga if you want to really see how cool these classic heroes should have been. Kamen Rider Black - If they hand picked a few of the key episodes, it could be the best Kamen Rider show ever. The core story is really good, with the struggle of Black & Shadowmoon. Very dark, and sad at a lot of times. But since its a kids show, a lot of filler episodes were thrown in with very juvenille storyine on these. While the special effects are very 80s, I still have yet to see Riders that fights and poses as cool as Black & Shadowmoon. Nowadays, Riders just try too hard to be cool, but often fails. Not to mention Black has the most dramatic showdown with Shadowmoon towards the end of the series, that I have yet to see any other Rider shows can top. Kamen Rider Black RX - It sucks. Made for kids and kids only with no real good story in it. The only cool part is RX's killer poses and his alternate forms. Even his bikes and car look ugly. Yup. He got a car. Kamen Rider J & Zo - J is passable, as its more like a Ultraman wanna-be rider, with a just not very interesting plot. He is the only Rider that can grow to as big as Godzilla LOL . Zo is better, even though Zo and J look quite alike, almost like twins. A decent 45min movie with a very cool looking villain Doras. Zo's Rider kick sucks though. I think Takayuki Takeya(main sculptor of SIC toyline) worked on this movie as a supporting monster design guy. He was very young and not popular back then. Kuuga - Only saw the mini movie, which is the compilation of the first few episodes. Pretty good with some interesting characters and more modern CG & action. Fights not as cool as Black, but get the job done. But not sure how the rest of the series went. Agito - One of the Rider shows that tried too hard to be cool (What's up with that half a minute stance before the Rider Kick, while the villain will not fight back, run, nor hide, but stand there waiting to get kill? And this happens in every episode). Pretty good overall story though, especially the part on G-3 and Gills. But the fights are not that great, with the main Rider Agito disappoints the most. Always finish bad guys with a final blow without much struggle. Doesn't have a grand showdown on the last episodes, and never even explain much on where the Burning form or Shining Form comes from. It just happens and finish everybody with one hit. LOL Good story, bad execution on some stuff. And I hate the false advertising in their OP sequences, showing surprising & dramatic scenes and story elements that will never appear in the show. Bastards! Don't need to trick people watching your show wondering what will happen if the show itself is really good! Faiz 555 - My favorite modern Rider show. Characters more believable and has more drama to them. Feels like watching a Japanese soap opera sometimes(in a good way), but they so happen fight as Riders too. Riders not that powerful, and got their butt kicked quite often. Which adds more drama to even the very good fights. And everything connected nicely that you don't feel like 'monster of the day' at all like in older Rider shows and Agito. Fights and bad guys always there for a purpose to lead on to future story elements. Since its a Rider show still, so there is a bit of cheese here & there, and the phone thing might throw off some viewers. But this show by far has the least cheese. Go watch it! Hibiki - Only watched the movie. Just average. Nothing particularly stands out. Kabuto - Only watched halfway through, but gave up on it. It got nicer effects for sure, and I like the more relaxed Rider Kick, which looks cool. But the characters are too odd that they are too weird to be a real believable person. While I understand they try to make them more unique, but mostly just turned out to be too odd. Tendoh is just too strange, and tried too hard to be cool. Then we even have a weird make-up artist as another rider, and then another rider, then another, then another... I lost interest afterwards, as the show don't seem to take itself very seriously, with odd humor placed in the wrong places. Though the Cast-Off time thing is cool. Just the 'armor' look kind of stupid and bulky. Overall, I would say the classics(especially the Kamen Rider Spirits manga), Black, & 555 are my favorites.
  6. 1800yen a pop.
  7. Good news for people that are interested on the upcoming Seiya bust figures. From what I read from Toysdaily, the busts will feature these following to assure compatibility on the Myth figures: - Exchangable head that fits on the Myth figure to have a nicer head sculpt. - Even parts like hands and some Cloth parts (Shaka's shoulder armor) are also swapable with the Myths. - Each character will come with 2 heads! So no worries on giving the head to your Myth and leaving the bust figure headless. - Each bust will come with chrome parts finish (Heck YEAH!!!) that matches the Myth nicely. At first I was skeptical about this line, even though I'll go for a few that really needs a new head. But with these news, these bust figures are going to be a perfect match for sure!
  8. Yeah, the GBA hardware sure doesn't help on the sound department. Sound effects sucks. Though we are talking about SRWOG here, so you are sure to catch some very cool catchy tunes. Who can forget Elzam's theme... Really didn't like the TV direction. Rather than using the good script from the game and make a good series out of it, they treat it more like 'cashing cow' with minimal cell animation possible, while drag the storyline as long as possible to get the most episodes out of it. Having seen episode 1-5 now, almost nothing really happen at all... so sad. And there are so many still shots that I actually start not paying attention to their dialogue, but start counting how many still scenes are there with just bust shots of characters with only mouth moving.
  9. I'll fill in some that Fort Max haven't mentioned. From the look of the TV anime Divine Wars, the quality is pretty low. The robots are nice in 3D cell shaded (similar to Zoids), but the action suffers. Nothing dynamic and interesting. Very mediocre stuff. The human character scenes are worse. Looks very low budget and so many stills. Drawings don't even look on model a lot of times. As a SRW fan, I feel quite disappointed. Compare to the OVA, the OVA looks a lot better, even though the OVA itself is not really that great. Fun to see the robots in action, with a bit of story, but its far too short and ended far too easy. Where are the tough bosses in the games? The entire OVA is fighting pawns. No epic plot there. In terms of toys, you can go cheap and get the Kotobukiya model kits. They are decent, and don't look bad even without paint. But they are model kits and mostly just real robot types releases, and not that playable. Unifive/Banpresto released 2 very nice gokins however. A Huckein MkII & a more recent Alteisen. I love those 2, and one of the most poseable gokin toys around. If you have big pockets, then there are the Dengeki Hobby magazine exclusive mail order action figures. Lots of them, from super robots to real robots from the OG universe. Super expensive since they are very limited, and can mostly find in auctions, or Toy-wave.com. They usually cost even more than the gokins, in some case a lot more, but the quality is much inferior. They are more like MSIA quality, only cost so much because of its rarity. But since some robots were never made into toys other than those, its the only choice if you really want to own some of the coolest SRW robots in toy form. If you can read Japanese, the best to experience SRW OG is through the upcoming import PS2 game. Its the most refine version you can get. But if you don't know the language well enough or don't have the import hardware, then go for the GBA SRWOG 1 & 2 route. Sucky graphics, but still a very fun game with a long awesome plot. Its even in English LOL! Watching the TV series would be my last pick. Not to mention watching the TV series will spoil the plot for you if you plan to play the game.
  10. Yeah. I see where you are coming from. They do look a bit different from the blocky look I was used to when I was little (got a red Block Head model kit back then ). Though the Revoltech Dougrams don't look that different really. Mainly the hip and the thighs(that made the stance). The rest still look pretty close to the original proportion. Just with a wider range of movement. Really hope Kaiyodo won't just stop at the Soltic Round Face, but keep going on the other Dougram mechs.
  11. If you browse around Kaiyodo's website on the revoltech stuff, you'll find them talk about other colors of R-Joints, packed exactly like the blue give-away R-Joint set that comes with the limited blue Soltic Round Face. They said they will start selling these sets starting late September for 200yen a set (delayed?), or one might need to contact Kaiyodo directly to buy these, as they did put a contact address there on the page. Also, looks like they are having a point system to get these R-Joint goodies. Like collecting 'revol points' from purchasing figures (from the package box maybe?). But its pretty assuring that these joints will be widely available pretty soon, and in all sorts of colors too. They even have revoltech stickers LOL if you want to pretty up the figures with revoltech logos or look....like the Gundam FIX? http://www.kaiyodo.co.jp/revoltech/privilege.html This line sure is getting bigger & bigger.
  12. I guess Dougram is a bit limited pose-wise...or is it? Though I have to agree, if the hip can pull just a bit more of a natural stance, it would be perfect!
  13. After trying to stay away from this line, I finally broke down and picked up the Dougram from a local shop, now knowing that Kaiyodo will release more Dougram mechs on this line. And I am quite impressed. While there is some limitations on the joints (swivels at an angle, not straight horizontal or vertical like we are more used to), its still has a very wide range and is the most dynamic posing rendition of Dougram action figures EVER! While this is my first revoltech, and one of the earlier releases mind you, it rocks. I never had small figures that balances and 'clicks' so nicely. No worries of loosening major joints that will make the figure unstable after some play time. Very nice! Not to mention the coming attractions on this line is just lovely, even though I have to fight hard not to get them all due to limited space and budget. And looks like Soltic will also have a 'shop limited' blue varient with different weapons, and even a new/custom type of revoltech joints! Check it out! Just saw HLJ has this blue version up for early bird.
  14. No new info per se. But from the writing in that link, this is no normal Space Cruiser Yamato toy. Its going to cost around 60000yen, with remote control moving turrets(a bunch of them in fact), as well as a bunch of light & sound gimmick. Guess its the MacDaddy Yamato toy for the really rich kids. Its supposed to be released sometime this year. But since there don't seem to have any recent news, it might got delayed or scrapped. Not too sure really. And as you can see in the pics, its somewhat bigger than the Soul of Popynica Yamato besides it. However, if you are looking for a very fun Yamato toy but cost less than 1/10 of it (only around $30-40 on ebay), try the Mechanical File Yamato trade figure set. With all 8 parts(1 box set), it combines into a 14" long Yamato with every little part and body panels removable. I put together mine recently, and had so much fun. If you want, you can literally disassemble the thing into hundreds of small mechanical bits, then put them back together like a 3D puzzle. All parts follow the original design (including all inner structure) faithfully. Or if you want a more solid ship so that you can pick it up and fly around, add a little superglue here & there to glue or thicken some pegs to make the body blocks lock better. This is the most fun Yamato toy I've come across, and much cheaper than any good ones out there.
  15. Nope. Wouldn't buy it even if its a dollar with free shipping. LOL
  16. The toy does look nice, but I still can't get past the color. If it look like this instead, I'll sure give it a go.
  17. Not sure if I like the designs. And why a new Giant Robo series when the older OVA show was excellent and not that old?
  18. Hmm. Surprised that not many people commented on this thread. Its such an amazing deal that its almost too good to be true. Now I can finish off some series that I started off, while getting a bunch of other good ones, all in an unbelievable price. Just hope it doesn't take forever for Right Stuff to get the DVDs out since almost all the ones on the listing are 'Order from Manufacturer' instead of being in stock. Its funny though, that some series has a missing volume or two at Right Stuf's listing. And in order to complete the collection, getting the missing disc elsewhere will cost way more than the rest of the series combined. LOL
  19. These are really cool. Without knowing exactly what they are, I already placed an order of the black one at HLJ the moment I saw the pics on Japanese sites. This line is not just cool & cute, its very playable. Just look so fun to put on all the parts and pose, some parts, swap parts, mix up parts, add more parts...just very high play value. The Strarf model particularly caught my eye. Looks awesome, even when I don't usually collect cute little girl figures or any weapon type musume stuff. This one, I got to have.
  20. Just finished the final volume of the Godannar DVDs, and a great ending with tons of action nonetheless. Haven't actually seen a giant robot TV series with a very satisfying ending for a while, while the action kept me on the edge of the chair. Just sucks that ADV being a cheapskate giving you only 3 episodes on the last 3 volumes, when they lure you in with 5 episodes on volume 1. HATE THAT!!! This could have been a 6 disc collection instead of 7. But they did a good job on the extras, jacket design and all. As a whole, the series has a lot of fanservice for sure, but good that they are all just 'tongue in cheek' kind of sexy comic relief, or some brief nudity in some occasions. A bit naughty in showing some skin, but nothing dirty or gratutious that makes it feel like porn. Its a TV series on air in Japan afterall. Still not everyone's cup of tea. But in terms of drama & robot action, its almost as hotblood as GaoGaiGar Final's level...meaning really good. Art is very consistent in all episodes, and high quality animation for a TV show. Watching this show, while having my Max gokin displayed right on top of my DVD play sure is a blast!
  21. Haven't post in this thread for a while. Recently swapped the 3 Bronze Saint Final version body and put on the Rebirth Cloth. While the fitment isn't perfect and need to add some foam or tape to have a couple piece stays on, they look fantanstic! Was actually a little regretting buying the Rebirth ones way back when it just came out, after seeing how much they improved the sculpt with the new body & new sculptor. But now, its worth it just getting the older Cloth. Nice! Can't wait for Shun & Ikki to joint the family.
  22. If you feel like a plain body for customization or to make fun stuff like this, look up Material Force on ebay. They are originally ToysRUs exclusives in Japan. Comes in all kinds of colors, and have both male & female body.
  23. Part 2 & 3 are very good as well. But most likely, you'll like 1 the most. As 1 is still the meat(main event) of the whole trilogy, while 2 & 3 sort of fill in the gaps and back stories for you. But they do enhance the experience in their own ways, not just some supplimentary stuff you can live without. So go check them out, make sure don't try reading too much on the storyline, in case you get some spoilers. As you may not know, Infernal Affairs is all about 'surprises'. Out of the 3 movies, I think 1 is the best, then 3, with 2 being the least favorite(which is still pretty good).
  24. Don't think its that great based on the trailer. I try to be open minded about this, but what they showed in the trailer seems just like a decent cop movie. A lot of the drama, the mood, and style captured in the Infernal Affair seem lost, even though I recognize a bunch of the scenes in the trailer directly taken from the HK movie. I guess many of the HK casting for the Infernal Affair are so spot on and iconic that its really hard to beat. The only part I don't like about the original is that sometimes, the music score feels overly dramatic. As if a not very experienced muscian tried to come up with a very epic soundtrack for the first time, overdoing it on some tracks. Infernal Affair II & III feels much better on the music department. But music aside, Infernal Affair seems to have left very little room for improvement. So not sure of picking a great flick like that for a remake is such a good choice.
  25. That Cool Girl outfit is custom made. Made by a Japanese site that often sell custom outfits on Yahoo Japan. They go for top dollars though. So yeah, very hard to find stuff with a huge price tag. But if you like the long hair Cool Girl only, then its the CG-12 Ruby. While mine in black & white is Cool Girl CG-12 Alternative Ruby, not in the orignial blue outfit. Alternatives ï½ï½’ï½… re-make of existing Cool Girl but with a new head sculpt & outfit update. Both old & new Ruby looks very pretty. I am not a heavy military collector, but get some gears and weapons here & there. Medicom MGS3 Snake is a really awesome figure. While Hot Toys from Hong Kong makes the best accessories. Got a bunch of diving gear and guns for my Cool Girl. All the Japanese superheroes stuff are very cool too, but those may not be as appealing to the western market. Heard that Takara is going to release a male Jin Roh version soon. So keep an eye on that.
