Kawamori-san designed Nissan SUV robot
mpchi replied to obakesan's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Don't quite see the connection between the robot and the car, other than having a Nissan emblem. -
Yeah, the bigger DMZ are getting expensive. Though I feel that its worth it, especially many of us are used to pay $130+ for a 1/48 VF-1. Even a DMZ-01 with weapon set will bring you up there. No cheap route around it. Even any Yamato 1/12 dog will get up there if not more for any additions. I am excited about Rabidry Dog's backpack gimmick, dropping bombs with a release button, as well as its claw (probably like the Strikedog) and the working tread on the feet. Its going to tower my DMZ-01 quite a bit.

No love for the upcoming Rabidry Dog? Its the latest DMZ, and a sculpt that Yamato never made in the 1/12 line. It got a new Chirico head(helmet with visible eyes) to boot. It might be a good buy for you, rather than other DMZ sculpt that you already have in a different line. Only about 2 months from now. I am very excited for this one. However, in the Big Battle OVA, Rabidry Dogs were turned into sucky purple versions that got slaughtered in seconds. Thought it was supposed to be the most advanced dog in that era, designed by no one but a 'god'. Wonder if Takara will do that purple repaint later on.

A little late, but finally saw it this past weekend. Not sure why critics in general give it a pretty low score, wondering if they are expecting way too much, or just try to critical. I like it overall, with lots of exciting moments. Don't feel like there is too much villains, plot too scattered, or inferior to the previous movies. Things flow pretty well I think. Just wish Venom was more developed and had more screen time, as I thought he was pretty iconic among the Spider-man Villains. Didn't know a lot of Spiderman's comic background, so didn't know Gwen Stacy was meant to be an important female character until now, after reading some posts. If thats the case, then they should have cast her better. While the actress is not bad, she just look like a very generic blonde character that doesn't stand out or being very pretty. Hopefully there will be a Spider-man 4 (heard Raimi agreed to do another one, and it will have Lizard man & Carnage, but not sure if Tobey will be back for another ride), as I would love to see Carnage and find out more about this character.

Yeah, the Microman figures varies a lot in terms of joints tightness. I bought the old Chirico a couple years back, and overall very solid. While its the exact same release as the one that came with my DMZ-01 other than the slightly weathered paint, the newer one turn out looser in a number of joints. The face wasn't painted as nice either. Still not too bad, but not as good nonetheless. A couple other micromans in my collection varies as well. So kind of kept me staying away from collecting them seriously. However, now they are more like an add-on accessory for the DMZ, I am pleased having them. Would love to get a Fyana to keep Chirico company, while all the spare Chiricos from different DMZ can now be generic soldier dudes.

Think I'll settle with just the Leader Prime. The others don't appeal to me at all.

Haha. Aquarius is Camus by the way. (Read Ka-Miu in Japanese)

Oh. Just checked HLJ. They have the Burglary Dog in stock as well. Someone got it in HK already. Check out the pics. Interior is painted, as well as the pilot afterall. Looks like a great turn out on QC as well. http://www.toysdaily.com/discuz/viewthread...3D1&page=49

The Fatty Ground type is awesome. Joints more sturdy too. I have the Type B(no spike) right now, and the Type A coming in from the mail soon. Try to get someone to fight my Red Shoulders. These blends in so much better with others than the awkward turqoise green space version. The pilot scale doesn't look too off when compared side by side, but the huge Balarant helmet and the sitting pose sure make it look bigger. Cool. From pics I've seen, looke like the interior of the Burglary Dog is painted as well. While it might look quite a mismatch with the other AG, its another nice thing that justify the high price.

Thanks for the tips. Yeah, just try to do something quick to improve the look. Still enjoy the playing part more than the painting part. But its a worthy effort. Guess Mr. Reeman is next, as well as Fatty Ground and a couple others.

Just finished doing some simple weathering on a 1/48 Red Shoulder (Reeman Set), using enamel paint wash and a silver marker for the metal wear. Not a fantastic paint job by any means, but looks pretty good for a couple hours of work and the skill of a beginner. The enamel paint wash is very forgiving and easy to apply, and the weathering does make a big difference on these otherwise very plasticy-looking little guys. Fun stuff.

Yeah. Kanon is great. He may not have one of my favorite armor design, but his normal clothing body is one of the figure I fiddled with the most. Really stable and really good range of movement. All joints are perfectly tight.

Awwwww, CG Dogs?! That doesn't sound too good, unless its some really high quality stuff. They better not look like the Zoids TV or the stiff animation like the cell shaded ones in SRW TV series. That might ruin it for me.

I think there is still no news in terms of a RSC set yet, not that it means there won't be any for sure. Though I don't think buying the DMZ-01 & the RSC accessories separately would hurt much, other than having 2 boxes instead of one. But if you already have the Yamato 1/12, as well as other Votoms toys to play with, waiting is much less of a pain. I personally can't wait for the Rapidly Dog. Looks mighty sweet and wanted to check out the backpack gimmick.

Haha, Shun and Andromeda is the same person LOL . There was a Aiolia sketch (his Cloth head piece) together with the Shun and Dohko sketch in some of those scans. So not that far off. Though there is a recent fake Aiolia colored photochop that has been floating around the pass few days. We still don't know the 4th. Yeah, it could be a villain. See Aiolia's head it there?

Takara DMZ 1/18 Red Shoulder Custom accesories set. Yup! Looks great. Really wish there will be more add-on accessories sets like this, as there are tons of variations appeared in the TV and OVAs, with different backpacks, minor parts change...etc. Having more of these might actually boost the DMZ-01 base figure sales, as some collectors might actually want the variations displayed at the same time. Just like many Macross fans at least get a couple of the 1/48 VF-1s, just to wear the different accessory packs. This could even help keeping the dying Microman line to stay alive, with more Votoms characters pair up with these accessories. Hope Takara will go this direction, making more dollars while make fans happy.

I had that Episode G bust figure in hand at one point at the Kinokuniya Bookstore some months ago. Cost like $13 with whatever book it came with. But since I never follow Episode G manga, and don't particularly like the style, I later put it back down. The bust itself doesn't look too bad. But the red hair Aiolia does look dramatically different from the other Myths. Guess we'll just have to wait for Appendix volume 2. Very likely Aiolia is in that batch, as the design sketches revealed.
-
If you want an Episode G Aiolia head, you might have already missed out. Think it came as a bust, with a limited edition of one of the books or manga 'phonebook' about half a year ago. I believe the head actually fits on the Myth Aiolia's body quite nicely. Saw pics of people swapping that head before. In terms of manga style, I like the late version of Kurumada's, especially on the Cloth, faces and hairstyle. But his action sequences still suck big time. I haven't got too far on Lost Canvas, but think the guy overall is a better artist. Would be ideal to have Kurumada's design sense, but the draftsmanship of the new artist. I guess my favorite is still the look of the anime, with the early OVAs and movies being at the very peak. Having a big budget, with the main team doing all the animation and the two lead character designers doing all the key frames make major differences.

While I also dislike fillers in general, the Asgard arc is at least decently done, with some pretty cool characters. I like Siegfrid's look, but somehow I can never remember his moves, even though I've seen that arc at least 3 times. Hargan on the other hand is pretty memorable. Interestingly though, that the main animation team didn't do much of any Asgard arc episodes, other than the first. While the secondary teams did a decent job overall (way better than the early stuff), it still hurt the animation quality a little. Probably the main team was busy doing the feature length movie during that time. And while we may dislike some of the add-on bits from the TV series, there are also some pretty ridiculous bits from the original source. Not sure if you all know or remember that, all the orphans that were sent out by Saori's Grandpa, and later became the Bronze Saints (as well as the ones that failed). They were all brothers. Yup. Seiya, Shiryu, Ikki, Shun, Hyoga, Jabu, Geki......etc. All bloodline brothers. LOL And guess who's the dad? Yup. The mighty Grandpa that went all over the world and have kids with all kinds of women, in order to save the world. Sure he had fun doing so too. Glad that they took that out from in the TV. Kurumada must be smoking crack coming up with something like that and thought it was cool.

That was just what I was about to say. Finally watched Big Battle too. While still a good OVA, it seems to be the weakest among all the Votoms OVA series. Really not much background stuff or important history. Just a set up of Chirico's battle with this lunatic PS Niwa, who wants nothing but crushing Chirico. While the main theme is battle arena, we don't really see a lot of different fights. Only a short but sweet first fight of Niwa against some no name dude, and the fight between Chirico & Niwa towards the end. It still pack some pretty cool action and very entertaining though. Just that it serves a lesser purpose than the others in terms of filling in gaps of the main story. I guess when looking at all, Red Shouder Document: Roots of Ambition still holds the crown, while The Defrost/Shining Heresy series has the prettiest graphics.

Haha, talking about the Saints that people hate, don't forget thte Ghost Saints, or whatever they were called. I am talking about the 3 bad guys (female boss, and 2 male ugly dudes) with Cloth that actually look just like cloth/tight suit LOL. One is a Jelly fish, the other is a green frog guy or something. Pretty hilarious. The female boss turned out to have a pretty face underneath the mask. Though she didn't last very long. These three stooges weren't in the original manga as well.
-
I like the RT Prime & Megatron. Just not enough to buy them, even though I collect a few RT as well. Feel that TFs should stay as TFs (transformable), where most of the fun comes from. Those two while pretty cool, don't quite blend in well with my other RT Super Robots like Getters, Mazinkaiser, and Dangaioh.
-
Haha Thats why people don't like him in general. As well as the Steel Saints that look more like Transformers than Saints. Though the 3 Steel Saints are truly man made, not included in the 88 Athena Saints. Though Crystal Saint is one. Why he doesn't have a constellation? Go ask the guy who made him up for the TV show. Its one of those plot holes that they have in the series that was never explained.
-
Crystal Saint is an Athena Saint (1 of the 88), just that he doesn't have a lot of background, and is one of the few add-on characters only appeared in Anime and not in the manga.

I think its mostly how the later Gundam toys were marketed & distributed that caused its death. The early UC stuff sold pretty well, and I always had hard time finding some specific ones all the time. There were always never enough of the good ones that everybody like. G Gundam would have been ok, if they don't flood the shelves with all the ugly funky ones. But they did, thinking people actually like a Gundam with a bull head or a big skull for its body LOL. Then the battle scarred ones really killed it. If it was a limited one time thing, some collectors will still buy some. But not to an extend that they were out and abundant for months, while all the cool UC stuff disappeared. Though even MSIA in Japan is slowing down, taken over by the HCMPro and other stuff, so I guess its just a matter of time for U.S. not carrying Gundam toys in Target, Walmart & such.
