DAMN this looks soooo great! I am trying really hard not to buy this. I want it so bad but I just can not afford it right now. My credit card is saying, "use me! Abuse me! Get the valk. Get all the Valks!" I am trying to argue with it but I may be the weaker of the two.

OK kids, Here we go. These are the finished pics. You can see that most of the chipping occured while putting the arms together. The rest looks good. Overall it looks pretty cool and actually the bad pics do not do much justice. The interesting thing will be the "After" pics when I post pics in a month of how much chipping occurs after my son plays with it for a while. Oh, another thing is that Minmei keeps moving around inside the cockpit. You can see her off to the side in these pics but she does sit straight sometimes too. I may have to glue her in place.

Nevermind! I found the piece. I thougt it was for something else. I have completed it and transformed it. Man, re assembely was quite difficult. It looks pretty cool. If I can find my camera I will take some pics and post today. Otherwise tomorrow. Thanks for all of your help guys. Peace....

CRAPPP!!! I am almost finished putting this together and it seems that there is a piece missing. I do not have anything to connect the head to the neck. I have looked all over for the part and am not even sure what it should look like but regardless, there is no extra part that does not obviously belong somewhere else. I have taken apart my Knock Off version to see if I could use the neck pole thing from that but it is a completely different size and shape and will not work with this VF-1J. If anyone has any input for this please post here and PM me. Thanks.

Thanks for all the tips everyone. I have been lagging on the completion of this. Just too much work (Always getting in the way of fun!). But I have the valk half assembled now and it is just chipping to all hell. Now I am wondering if it is even worth it to give to my son as it will leave red (probably toxic) paint chips all over my apartment. You guys who do custom 1/55 valks must be very patient and genius. It has been fun doing this but the results have got me a little bit discouraged. I do know that I did not do it right and should not have cut corners so it is my fault but I am wondering if I will have it in me to do the other custom I wanted to do. I will post more pics soon.

Regardless of all the great points you guys are all making about this not being perfect, I am still extremely excited about this toy and looking forward to owning it more than any other toy right now. From the photos I am very happy but I also am not as knowledgeable about proper cockpit size, canopy shape and what is the official unspoken word secretly hidden in Kawamori's cryptic line art. This thing rocks. Thanks Yamato (not sarcastic). Of course if NMB4M does make the 1/48 conversion available, then I will need that too.

Consider yourself lucky to narrow it down to two. I feel like a dog who has just been thrown two dozen bones and cant figure out which one to pick up and looses his $hit.

So I got the DVD from Malyasia. It finally arrived. It has 13 episodes on one disc and I have just breifely scanned through on my TV to make sure it was widescreen and to quickly check the subtitles. It has chinese, malay, and english subs. From the quick scan, the subs are not absolutely horrible, just about decent actually. There are no subtitles for the songs and no transliterations for the songs either which is a bit of a bummer and from the quick scan through it did have some grammar issues (but then again, so do I). I have yet to check it out on my macbookpro. Hopefully it will look decent enough</report>

I am another vote for VF-0A (shin with booster best). That is one of my very very favorite kawamori designs and one of my very favorite toys ever. I do not have the YF-21 though. I do not have the YF-19 either. I do like Macross Plus, it is great and the designs are beautiful but I am really more a macross Zero type of hippy nerd. For me SDFM, DYRL, Zero, and Frontier. Which mecha design do you like better and which mode do you like best? If you are a battroid geek like me then go VF-0A (shin with ghost). If you are a Fighter kinda dork and love Blue then go YF-21. That is my rude $0.02. (Edit for making a bit more sense)
