Is Exedol permanently stuck in the Bridge
Captain of the SDF-1 Macross replied to vanpang's topic in Movies and TV Series
It's basically time and effort. Harahito Mikimoto couldn't put in the time and effort to draw Exedol 30 years older unlike Max and Milia, plus he had a deadline to keep and finish the characters. It's likely that Exedol was the last to be drawn and when Mikimoto couldn't complete it, he decided to simply took the Movie version's line art and wrote this version of the character into Macross 7. The story explanation is that Exedol is suffering a deficiency in his brain over the years in micron form because he's a war archivist, a living memory bank. To preserve his intellect and memories, he underwent macronization for the last time and underwent surgery to preserve his brain in the long run. Thus, his appearance has changed completely and is stuck in macro form. Yet, it was a success and Exedol is still the intellent Zentraedi we all know. -
Anybody Following Gundam Seed?
Captain of the SDF-1 Macross replied to Mechamaniac's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Here's my rant about it: It still gets four stars for being vividly visual in the show. And probably that Earth will be blasted by GENESIS and setting up the post-war era of Gundam SEED (reminisence of Gundam X's post-apocolype setting). a.k.a. the Strike Rouge Gundam. I seen the advanced preview pictures of the Providence Gundam (Kreuze's new ride) before and it is fudgy. It's not surprising to me since only an insane pilot would use it and Kreuze fits the bill. His ride matches up with the EA Gundam trio quite nicely. I bet that Patrick Zala (ZAFT), Azreal (EA) and Krueze isn't gonna live in the end, either. Those three brought down the house onto themselves because of the war and I hope it's done quick. We may also expect the Dominion and its crew gone, Frey and possibly Fraga in the final fight. Freedom would probably be destroyed to stop GENESIS but I bet Kira will survive (if Andrew Bartfield cheated death before, Kira may too). Then, we'll see Gundam SEED 2 next year focusing on the war's aftermath. -
What is the best attribute ......
Captain of the SDF-1 Macross replied to MacrossX's topic in Movies and TV Series
SDF Macross TV series: Started the Macross legacy and laid the groudwork for future Macross works. Great characters and mecha designs. Sets the realistic mecha genre into a new level. DYRL: Brought up as an encore to the fans. Refined the best qualities of the TV show like a diamond. Brought the designers their quality of work up to a new level and eventually any anime production they would later work on. Flashback 2012: The final outing for some characters from the TV series/DYRL. Minmay's final bow in Macross is still a great one. Gives us more groundwork in the continuity as well. II: Gave us the VF2-SS, new Destroids, the Macross Cannon-class warships and Ishtar for fanservice. Plus: A return to the official Macross timeline. Ties with some of the old continuity. New Variable Fighters and other mecha designs. First character designs not done by Harahito Mikimoto. A milestone of Japanese animation. 7/7 Movie/Dynamite 7: Great characters, great animation designs, lots of J-Rock, Max+Millia, more Variable Fighters and making a few more milestones. Great stories too and featuring (low-profile in the show) a few more Destroids. Zero: First animated prequel story, more mysticism, another milestone of Japanese animation, more non-Mikimoto character art and more Variable Fighters. New Destroid designs and loads of action. -
Just finished Flashback 2012
Captain of the SDF-1 Macross replied to Smiley424's topic in Movies and TV Series
The actual episode was episode 15 "Chinatown", when Hikaru takes Minmay to her hometown of Yokohama. The episode was set days after the Macross returned to Earth. Also, Minmay haven't seen her parents for a long while when she stayed with her uncle at South Atalia Island. In that episode, Minmay's parents disapproved of her singing career very quickly and they wanted her to inherit their Chinese restaurant business should they pass on. Oh, and there is no episode 37 because the Macross TV series ended in 36 episodes! -

There's some hope that Farscape may get its last story arc, in which I found the news on the web: http://www.bbc.co.uk/cult/news/cult/2003/0...7/17/5781.shtml I wish them luck in finishing the story they wanted to do. -
Battlestar Galactica box-set
Captain of the SDF-1 Macross replied to treatment's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Not to mention that John Colicos (Baltar) played his role for the last time in Richard Hatch's "Battlestar Galactica: The Second Coming". I miss that guy when I heard he passed on (but he managed to play the Klingon Kor for the last time in a blaze of glory). If the 2003 mini-series sucks, we hope that the higher-ups rethink their strategy. -
Battlestar Galactica box-set
Captain of the SDF-1 Macross replied to treatment's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Ugh. Don't remind me. It's the lowest point the season sucked royal back then. The stuff Troy and Dillon did in that ep was also the lowest the duo had done for BG, such the musical number they did while avoiding the cops. And yeah, Cylons attempting to pass as Halloween cosplayers was a farce. I feel sorry for Lorne Greene (Adama) to star in this season, as you can see he had the worst time there. The only thing that managed to get a highpoint was the series finale, where Dirk Benedict played Starbucks for the last time and what happened to him (and no, he didn't go set up a chain of coffee houses worldwide). -

It also inspired to make Soundwave and Shockwave to say, "As you command, Megatron." The "As you command!" ended up as the mottos of RID Skyfire and Armada Demolisher in their tech specs. -
It just came on an hour ago tonight. <_< (sees the new Marines capable of shooting straight and one scored a few kills with a fancy sniper rifle for five minutes) Meh. (shuts off TV) Sorry, B&B. Ripping off the idea of Marines from Star Blazers' second season doesn't cut it. While they shoot better than the goldshirts from the Nemesis movie, those guys still don't have helmets or armoured vests. Also, why give them an acronym named MACOs? It's sounds like an auto repair dealership. The whole episode doesn't cut it, even though I only watched in the middle of it for five minutes. Rant off. Time to watch fansubbed Gundam SEED episodes to scrub the sci-fi trash that attempted to ingrain into my brain. B)

Energon Jetfire in energon comic
Captain of the SDF-1 Macross replied to Prowlus's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
And yet again, Jetfire (on page 2) gets reincarnated into an another bloated shuttle. <_< I agree; Starscream's the only good-looking of the bunch. While Hotshot got a better alt-mode, he still got the Tweety colors and an uglier robot mode. Battle Ravage could've been good if only the ditch the yellow and purple for chrome silver colors. I fail to understand why re-release Tidal Wave and Unicron for Energon. Tidal Wave is meant to combine with Armada Megatron/Galvatron and Unicron is ruined with a bad color scheme. I better pick up the Armada version of Unicron while it lasts because that version has the TF:TM colors. From what I see at the Autobots, Hasbro must've duplicating the gattai concept from the Multiforce subline, which was introduced in Transformers: Victory. Oh, and Energon Optimus Prime still looks bad even though the images are more clear. Also, he had been reincarnated into the worst alt-mode for him: a car carrier. <_< -
Question about new live action EVA
Captain of the SDF-1 Macross replied to JKeats's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Contrary to popular belief, Mark Hamill didn't play the role as the Guyver. Soap opera actor Jack Armstrong played as Sean Barker/the Guyver. Mark Hamill played the role as FBI agent Max Reed in the first Guyver movie, in which his character was given the worst/silliest death in sci-fi when he dies during mistransformation as a Zoanoid mutant (he was freed from the conversion chamber too early). Believe me, it's laughable and grusome to see Hamill having to act so low. The poster/video cover was just false advertising just to get the viewers to watch. <_< -

Not to mention that he also took the character name "Sean Barker" (of Guyver II) as an alias in some of the voice acting/dubbing work as well. -
How to save Star Trek
Captain of the SDF-1 Macross replied to Wolf13's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Oh, really. Those three you mentioned have shot up the ST franchise to go worse. Voyager had a good premise but it sucked due to bad writing and making the crew of Voyager as a happy family. Not to mention it was in direct competion against DS9, a show not runned by B&B and it turned out better. Even Robert Beltran (Chakotay) even publicly complained about it and his character but it wasn't enough to get him fired and he got a trip to purgatory no thanks to B&B. Enterprise had serious problems and the only thing that impressed me is the phase pistol and the communicator: * Technology that wasn't supposed to be there such as holodecks and forcefields. * Instead of Klingons looking like dark-skinned humans with beards, we get Jethro Thul look-alike rejects. * Instead of Orion women looking like green-skinned exotic dancers, we get Circus de Soliei rejects that change color from different lighting angles. Phfff. * Romulans get cloaking devices 100 years too early. * Vulcans become very un-Vulcan, ending up with sticks up their a** after watching too many X-Files episodes featuring Sculley. Nemesis sucked because of the following: * The movie took the brunt of competing blockbusters at the time: LOTR-The Two Towers, James Bond's Die Another Day, Maid in Manhatten and so on. Nemesis was bited off and chewed off at the box office. * The whole plot sucks. Shinzon was typecasted as evil from the start without knowing his angst and stupidity vent his anger on Earth instead on the Romulans, who were his tormenters. And Data got a stupid death that can be easily avoided. * The movie looked like a TV episode, which they never put the movie budget to full potential. * Janeway as Admiral is very wrong. She never deserves that rank. Click on the link on the list of sci-fi shows that got shafted by Hollywood dolts wearing Armani suits: http://www.firsttvdrama.com/neverf/neverf.php3 Some of the shows listed were also my favorites and it's no different than ST. -
How to save Star Trek
Captain of the SDF-1 Macross replied to Wolf13's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Which is not surprising, since Roddenberry once worked on TV westerns and crime drama before he started on sci-fi TV. It also shown how he thinks on how combat should be: 19th century tactics that are obsolete in today's evolution of warfare. GR didn't like the way TOS and Movies 1-6 were going towards military-oriented stories are shown on ST, which prompted him to make TNG. And that resulted in his view of a touchy feely future that shows the Feds being naive and hypocrite towards foriegn policies. Not to mention that it shows that GR was an atheist, socialist and a humanist. Kirk's era got success due to the fact that most of the greatness was done by someone other than GR. Gene Coon and DC Fontana put the show to life and Nicholas Meyer turned the movie series into a success after ST:TMP didn't turned out well. The bad thing was that Berman and Braga followed GR's views to the letter and turning ST into the mudturd it's now. And yes, it should be shot dead and stay dead. It's too poisoned up now and those B&B lovers are deluting themselves. -

Ah, yes, Star Blazers' Season 2: The Comet Empire story. Sadly, I don't think the producers would go that way because they don't an equivalent of mystical female alien and the only thing close to that description is Kes. Ditto. Other than technobabble solutions, there's nothing exciting every day they encounter new species. When you see a Class-M planet, you seen it all. TOS would have Kirk and co. encounter superior lifeforms like Greek god Apollo, evil-powered computers and the like. Q himself sums up this premise of superior lifeforms, "If you can't take a little bloody nose, maybe you'd better just go home and crawl under your bed. It's not safe out here. It's wonderous, filled with wonders to satiate desires both suttle and gross, but it's not for the timid." As it turned out later, there hasn't been anything since Q or Naghilian. The species found in the Gamma and Delta Quadrants are no more than equal to the Feds' scientific/military might. Most of them are no more than carbon-copied versions of Alpha/Beta aliens. Uber-powered should get a comeback. The Enterprise and the Defiant are the only ships that get the honor of being destroyed, though. The rest of the ships become cannon fodder. The producers don't show battle-damaged ships that often anymore is that they felt that it would increase the special FX costs. The last ship to underwent progressive damage was Voyager but all of that was gone by the press of a reset button. Not to mention the ability to repair machines in the matter of 10 minutes, which is impossible to do wonder repairs at the drop of a hat. I know that technology improves over time but that doesn't mean that repairs should be applied the same way. The last one in my book is Farscape. Every sci-fi show has dropped to the lowest common denominator in terms of profit and ratings. Time to pop in one of my Star Blazers DVDs in the player to put me back into ease. -

Well, Phil Hartman is dead (Troy McClure and Lionel Hutz) and so is Doris Grau (Lunchlady Doris). The producers decided not to feature them anymore on the show as a sign of respect. Bleeding Gums Murphy and Dr. Marvin Monroe were given deaths because the writers couldn't think of what to do with them on the show. Yet, Murphy was given a proper farewell episode. Maggie Roswell, who played Maude, walked out in disgust when the producers rejected her demands for a raise and her character was given a swift death. -

Here's the link about the game: http://www.gamespy.com/previews/august03/s...tartreksumulti/ The game "Shattered Universe", involves not only the Excelsior but also we get to see the Mirror Universe in a game again (the first was "Elite Force". There, Captain Sulu of the Excelsior will be battling against Captain Chekov of the Enterprise-A. What's not surprising is that Activision is not making the game. What is surprising is that TDK Mediactive is doing this game. B&B has poisoned it too much already. If it's gonna die in a whimper, B&B must die along with it. -

I'm on vent-up rage loaded with adrelalin due to some Voyager episodes, specifically any Voyager ep featuring the Borg. (It's not my fault though because someone else in the house is watching the episode) Besides, any episode featuring the Cybermen (from the TV show Dr. Who) has shown to kick butt and very evil as it builds up over time. The Borg, however, become more and more wussified over time. -

The non-canon PS-1 video game Star Trek: Invasion also featured ST starfighers and carrier vessels. Activision did asked the guys at Paramount to design the ships and fighters for the game. CaptRico did some fanart of the game at the old message board, in which he modified the Federation's Valkyrie-class starfighter into a transformable mecha. -
Ah, yes. I remember this aborted Disney project (when DIC was once one of Disney's subsidarities). The Save Our Sailors site have archived e-mail corresponces between Davis and the fans, so that the movie was assured to be accurate and good as the anime. The first choice to cast Sailor Moon was Kirsten Dunst, with Britney Spears as their second choice. Both the Sailor Moon and Star Blazers were canned by Disney because there are too many license holders to the properties that Disney can't keep an eye on, especially the original Japanese owners. Instead, Disney greenlighted the live-action Inspector Gadget movie in its place and we saw what happened to that one. The live-action Star Blazers project was written by the screenwriters of USA Godzilla and Independance Day. The story was derived from a two-page summary of Season 1 and used it as a starting point. The retelling was awful that it contradicts everything in what Star Blazers have and the hardcore fans (including myself) were pissed at the leaked script. Spacecruiseryamato.com used to host an interview with the scriptwriter, in which he explained what he did and he was glad that the project didn't went ahead to piss the fans after he saw the anime in its entirely. The site is yet to rehost it because the webmasters are still repairing the site.

Meh. The later half of TNG, the first half of DS9 and all of Voyager has shown the ST franchise rotting due to B&B's mishandling. The TNG-era movies have become the Picard and Data show and only First Contact had impressed me. Enterprise has shown to break up ST because it kills what TOS and Kirk stood for in what makes ST great. B&B has already ruined in how Klingons, Romulans, Vulcans, Tholians and Orions are supposed to look like and how they behave. (looks at ad) Meh. (crushes ad with fist and kicks it away from my muddy boot) I already lost interest in Enterprise after I randomly watch Season 1 (I did watch for Broken Bow) and gave up on the Shockwave two-partner. Regeneration did raise one eyebrow from me but it wasn't enough for me to get back into it. OK, you Borg advertising handlers. Eat .45 cal lead from my Tommy Gun. (Borg falls dead and more march in) No way you're gonna assimilate me. March forward, Cybermen. KILL THEM ALL!!! -

While the "Venture-class" ships are meant as scout craft, they can be used as starfighters, as Data proved it against So'na ships in Insurrection.
