Macross Frontier Movie 1,YES it is subbed now edition
RDClip replied to sharky's topic in Movies and TV Series
He is the real life Max Jenius, he looks so young because he is a genius -
considering it was never animated, i wouldn't ever bet on it being made into a toy. it just isn't recognizable.

well they can't make a VF-171 cause bandai has the license to MacF and i can't see them making a VAB-2 due to it not being a very popular valk. Yamato can and may produce a VF-17 which was in Mac7 now that they are making Mac7 VF-22s.

Maybe i wasn't clear, RT is sticking to much to characters and the story from the 'original' 85. While I agree that MacF was in general terms a homage to the original series, they are still adding new main characters and places. You can't really say that Isamu, Basara, Shin or even Alto for that matter were really that similar to other Macross characters. Sticking to the likes of Rick Hunter, Scott Barnard and co are what is limiting the RT franchise. If HG would quickly finish off the story of the 'original' characters and move on to a new time, i think they could have more success with getting new fans.

VFTF1, perhaps be more concise? lol RT:TSC character and costume design doesn't really remind me of serious sci-fi, but moreso of a show like Ikkitousen or Queen's Blade. The 2 series i previously mentioned have uninteresting stories, but simply exist for fanservice and crude comedy, but RT is supposed to be a serious sci-fi series that.I could accept it if one or two characters had huge melons, but all the female characters even the minor ones who weren't meant to be sexy? you really can't take it seriously if the general uniform is spandex and all the girls have DD implants. And is it correct they blamed this on the Korean animators? Like any company would contract animation and not keep up with the designs and progress.

I agree with you there, chief. I just want some toy/model VF-171. Hell, release it in the crappy VF100 line, i'll buy it. I've yet to own any MacF product so i can only comment in general terms. I think it's been a good year so far for MacrossF. I think Bandai is making a concerted effort to get Macross into the market in large quantities and hopefully we'll see more to come(VF-171) I've always stood by my belief that anything that get Macross into the mainstream is a good thing whether it be on TV, stores or in music.

Is that how their trying to sell RT, as a true sci-fi series? Sci-fi fans are just as weird and perverted as anime fans I can't see why it would be respected in any genre of fan following especially sci-fi where there are much better franchises. Still I don't buy it, HG still made SC in that Americanized faux-anime style that is all the rage now. I do agree that RT:TSC didn't do much for to get new RT fans. It certainly wasn't structured to get new fans with a thin plot that doesn't do much to make a new view want to care about the story or its characters. Seems that it was a movie for fans and by fans of the series which doesn't do much to get new followers. If RT isn't dead it certainly is on life support. So what happens to them when the people who are just around for just nostalgia sake all get bored or frustrated and leave? In today's entertainment market, you can't snatch many new fans based on a 25 year old show (especially one with as low quality as RT) If they want to succeed, they new a brand new story without the old characters and story. That's why Macross is such a success, it doesn't get boring with the same old characters doing the same old stuff in the same old place.

I find it funny to think that Robotech fans think that their franchise is at all relevant in today's anime scene. I was born a year after RT aired and became an anime fan by 1997 and a huge Macross fan in 2003, never once between 1997 and 2003 did i hear about Robotech or it being important in anime. I heard much about Macross on many anime sites i frequented during that time, i saw Macross+ on TV in '97, but don't remember Robotech ever airing here in Canada or people talking about it seriously in anime fandom. And really it comes from HG for constantly trying to prove, unsuccessfully, that their hastily stitched together Frankenstein of a series is somehow a grand artistic achievement and a great upgrade of the originals. It would be like some people claiming that the early 90's dub of Sailor Moon, with its Americanized content, is better than the original japanese version (you should watch it, its awesome) Seems to me that all the fanatical behaviour, aggression, and close minded ignorance exemplified by the "leaders" of Robotech fandom is just a shroud because they don't really have any real or rational defenses to their, for all intents and purposes, dead franchise. Its common knowledge that bully-like behaviour comes from inner self-esteem issues. If they weren't so offensive to Macross and it's fans, i would feel sorry for them.

Clash of the Titans - remake teaser
RDClip replied to Vermillion21's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I generally like movies about the Classical era, so i'll give this one a chance. I'm still waiting on a Sparticus remake though. -
LOL that made me think that if someone sets the HG office on fire they'll blame it on the producers of Transformers being afraid of the RLAM. Seems to me that Mav's explanation of the transformers producers rushing their film from fear of RT could apply to everything Robotech. So, now it all makes sense anyone who insults robotech or any of its fans are just afraid and jealous of how awsome it could be if everyone wasn't holding it back. When will these evil Macross fans stop standing in the way of robosuccess? Why are they so mean??? Its not like the all great Harmony Gold ever did anything to them. But rejoice Robofans, there is the wonderful Shadow Chronicles, even the evil worldwide Macross empire couldn't curb its success. We all know how great the sales were and how much critical acclaim it have recieved from sophisticated anime and sci-fi fans. Robofans finally have a robofilm to legitimize their robofranchise and finally show those foreigners in japan how to make an animated movie. No wonder every sci-fi film that has come out in the last 24 years has been rushed. All the producers were roboscared of the robowave of robolove for the robotech robofilm that will be so robogood that no one will want to robosee any other film. They are just lucky that harmony gold has taken this long to do anythng with their franchise. harmony gold (WB is just giving them the money HG is OBVIOUSLY in charge of it) just doesn't want to rush their robomovie.

So, does the Hikaru VF-1S also have the major shoulder problem that the Roy has? Just wondering because it seems to be on sale everywhere for some really nice prices.

If i knew that it would make HG stay away from Macross, i would hope the LAM is a big success and Robotech would be able to make their own way on the world. However i suspect if HG makes any significant amount of money from it, they would try even harder to kill Macross outside of Japan. I don't want to sound disrespectful of Robotech fans (even though i have no respect for the franchise itself) I think if HG went under it would be the best thing for non-Japanese Macross fans. I can't think of any other company picking up the trademarks and rights and intentionally screwing themselves over for profits not trying to work with the true creators of Macross. So who wants to help me in my plan to become a billionaire, buy out HG, and dissolve it???

Speaking of the 80's, "Ninja Assassin" has to be the worst title for a movie since the 1980's martial arts movie fad (lol and i thought you couldnt do worst than calling a move "Next" or "War"). It'll probably be a terrible movie, the Wachoski Bros last several movies have kinda suck the big one. Actually, I believe the only really good movie they ever made was the first Matrix movie. The latter 2 matrix movies where decent, but not particularly amazing. Speed Racer was over the top even for the source material. And V for Vendetta basically butchered the original comic into a preachy anti-Bush propoganda film (Not defending Bush, but modern American politics don't have a place in an adaptation of a 80's British comic)

I was hoping for a 1/60 Q-Rea from Bandai to compare to Yamato's Q-Rau, but this little guy seems like a nice size match for the Revoltechs (since i doubt there will be a revoltech Q-Rau)
-
It does make sense, Basara only seems to be interested in himself On a side note, where did the serious discussion go in this thread???
-
I could go either way. On the one hand we could get some nice updated animation to make up for the sloppiness of the original(thankyou very much AnimeFriend ) But, it will be constantly scrutinized and compared with the original. On the other hand, if we get a new series it will be fresh and new and will bring new characters, designs and concepts to the franchise. However, there will be people who won't like it or may not agree with the way the franchise is headed.

General Galaxy is my favourite macross company. Even though Shinsei Industries gets to make all the hero valks lately, General Galaxy seems more ambitious in their developments.
-
I don't like M7 for Basara or Mylene, but Gamlin is one of my favourite Macross characters. Its good to see a straight laced goody-two-shoes get a major role in a story in the modern times of whiny, emo, or hotshot characters.

Just to be clear Yamato makes things in China because the labour is cheap there, that is the most obvious thing. But something people dont seem to grasp is that there is more to making a toy than just paying a factory full of labourers. Artists, engineers, marketing people, mould designers, mould makers, QC people, the janitor that cleans the Yamato office, etc, etc. All those people probably get paid much more than a Chinese factory worker, its called overhead cost. And finally Yamato is a company, they make toys to make a profit. As long as they price their products so that most people can afford them, they couldn't care less that some people complain about it or can't buy them anymore. And just to be more clear, i'll say it again: YAMATO MAKES TOYS TO MAKE A PROFIT.

well, i'm glad there is competition for Toynami in the small scale transforming VF-1 market.

Has Humanity truly surpassed Protoculture?
RDClip replied to dreamweaver13's topic in Movies and TV Series
I doubt there are any survivors of Protoculture left, but if there are they have probably lost or forgotten how mighty their culture once was. Its has been tens of thousands of years since their empire was destroyed after all. -
How about an episode in the next series were the main character meets and makes friends with a destroid pilot who is a member of the destroid corps. AKA "The Daisy Pushers". The destroid pilot is either an old veteren that is 2 days from retirement or a fresh faced rookie with a wife and baby kid. This pilot can be nicknamed "Wormfood" and his mecha can be called the "Farm Buyer". When they are attacked by some crazy space things everyone fights courageously and just as the battle is about to end Wormfood's desteroid gets shot... But he lives!!! ... ... Next day as he is walking down the street, he suddenly blows up for no reason other than destroid pilots must always die.

It has almost the same plot as mighty ducks. (except with a cancer kid thrown in for extra clicheness) Even a character that looks like Emilio Estivez comes out at the end.
-
lol if you think that episode was outdated, remember the episode a year or 2 ago spoofing Mighty Ducks, a movie from the early 90's.

The WWE and Pro-Wrestling Thread 2
RDClip replied to Apollo Leader's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
the thing about wrestling is that it isnt a sport, its kinda an imitation of sport with stories thrown in to try to get people into it. I suppose you could compare it more with a play or a circus show rather than a real sport. But, some of the guys are really good at putting on a good show whether it be in the ring or or the acting part. Not any muscle bound idiot could be a pro wrestler, its hard work with a lot of pain. I watch wrestling once in a while. I know its fake, obviously. I don't really care much for the stories and whatnot, but i do like good matches.- 715 replies
