  1. Yep, it's pretty funny that an American movie can have dubbing as bad as poorly done dubbing in anime. Worst example is when marcus invites scott to have a drink; they look sad, but their lines are normal and casual. Didn't they even have any idea what the final script would be before the koreans started to animate it. (anyone ever thought scott sounded kinda like Adam West) As for the fanservice...well, it's a way to get new teenaged fans, i guess.
  2. Just a q not really in the correct place(but i don't want to make a new topic) I recently came to own a Yellow Submarine SDF-1 Macross cruiser mode resin kit. Any idea what the value of one of these would be?
  3. I'd think it'd be really complex to design. If it ever gets made expect a bunch of breakage issues (especially in battroid mode)
  4. I don't think that's a fair assessment. Many anime creators are very open minded about other cultures nowadays. Heck, many of the great anime (not 'popular' per se, great) of the last decade or so were at least in part influenced by American films or Western literature. Plus even though the primary audience is Japanese people, no company wants to throw away the possibility of licensing deals and royalties. Ever since Cowboy Bebop was a flop in Japan and was a major sucess here, i think International distibution has become more important to anime companies.
  5. So, i have a question. Which macross games are considered 'canon'?
  6. Yeah, pretty funny that the only character that develops throughout the series is the semi main character/side character Gamlin.
  7. Nope, pretty much stays the same.
  8. Oh, I love it when i say something that sparks a huge discussion Coming of age stories are all well and good, but the thing i love about Macross is the military aspect of it. I think many of the other mecha shows bother me (Mac II included) is that the 'kids' in these series don't really understand the duty they have. Gamlin was the only M7 main character I like because his story was about him developing the responsibily and understanding the conflict of his duty vs his personal feelings. Cookie-cutter mecha leads are usually in a situation outside of their choosing and constantly have a problem with it but eventually learn its where they belong. (Lets forget Basara who never gave a damn about anyone but himself) I prefer characters that are in the military fighting because they want to be.
  9. I'm just hoping they try to break the mold a little bit. I don't know if anyone agrees with me, but i'm really getting tired of mecha shows with teenaged leads. I would love to see the new Macross have a main character like Isamu Dyson. He was in his 20's, fully confident in himself and was a real hot shot. I've had enough of the with the suspension of disbelief that a 17yr old could expertly pilot an advanced piece of weaponry.
  10. Not really a question just some things i noticed. So i was watching DYRL and is i me or is Max the team leader of him, kakizaki, and Hikaru. Maybe not at the beginning (he was flying a VF-1A), but right before his fight with Millia, Kakizaki called him leader (taijou), he was point, and he was flying a VF-1J.(so mad i don't have a DYRL VF-1J with max paint, now) So, i guess he got promoted in that month hikaru and misa were on earth. And anyone ever notice the model of a VF-4 and what looks kinda like a VF-11 with delta wings in Hikaru's room? So many little neat things in this movie.
  11. That could happen, but it really doesn't fit in with the macross pattern of main characters. Macross main characters are always very young characters that are more or less not fully matured (isamu was an adult, but he was still a cocky showboat) To have two of your main charcters as a married couple with a kid seems a little out of pace with the rest of the franchise. However, i would still like to see them in a secondary character position, just it seems that it would be hard to make former main characters side characters. As for the fate of the Megaroad-01, i have two word for you...time travel, Ooooo (just me hoping to get a story with them and a new VF)
  12. So true Pretty much one of the most important parts of the original series was the love-triangle between Hikaru, Misa, and Minmei (the original series...hell, it the most important part of all macross series). Now that Hikaru is married and has a kid, no one will like him if he still has feelings for Minmei. Does anyone think it could be good with these three as side characters?
  13. Eh, i'm still hoping they could come up with some better scientific explinations than in Mac7. But, it would be nice to have something to tie the loose ends in Mac0 and connect it better with the rest of the series. ... but, i'd just settle for anything with a new super advanced VF. Hasn't really been a 'new' one (by new i mean storyline chronology) since Mac+.
  14. I don't think anyone was expecting it to be as good as Mac 0. Considering that HG probably didn't have as much money as BW, i think it was pretty good. Well...it was on par with TV anime CG.
  15. I'd really like to see a new valk with some cool updated technology. But, if we're talking about existing VF's, I'd really like to see more of the VF-4. Afterall, it only got animated in Flashback for about 15 seconds.
  16. Well...i liked it It wasn't the greatest thing ever, but it wasn't that bad either. One of the better American attempts at imitating anime. It did motivate me to want to watch Robotech (only the last 2 parts, still can't sit through the macross saga) I do hope this leads to a series or something. It'll be nice to have a very clear division between Macross and Robotech finally. Then, the Robotech fans can do their own thing and the Macross fans can do their thing, too.
  17. Little question here. Are there bootlegs of the Bandai VF-17? I think i may have heard of them, but i've never seen one up for auction.(unlike the dozens of 19 kai boots)
  18. I'm considering getting one of these to screw around with. Anyway, have you tried to take it apart, yet. If so is it easy to do?
  19. 1) VF-1 : Simple, yet cool and elegant. You can add a buttload of firepower and speed with the tough-looking fast packs or you can bulk it up with the armor kit. And lets not forget that it is the one that started it all. The VF-1S variant is my favourite just due to the head design(eye piece to be specific). 2) YF-21 : Very cool design. Innovative control system and the really godod specs. Battroid mode is a little wierd looking though. (lets not forget how great flew Max a VF-22 in M7) 3) YF-19 : New frest look. Looks good in all modes. (bumped down to 3rd because i feel like the Kai fighter from M7 makes the 19 look bad) 4) VF-4 : You know i didn't like this one until I saw vf-1s' custom SHE build-up, now i really dig this one. All 3 modes look so different and cool at the same time. I espeacially like how the main engines are on the wings. 5) VF-17 : Well, pretty much just the fact that it looks so sleek and smooth in fighter mode.
  20. As for the off topic thing. VF are called Valkyries by civilians and laypeople just like some people call all cola coke, it was just such a popular model that it became symonomus with VFs. Military people still refer to them as variable fighters. As for the real topic, i'm pretty sure Yamato will eventually get to the other Valks (or VFs for those sensitive people). I think they did the VF-1 for the obvious reason that it is the most popular, but they're getting around to the other models. The ones you listed are not the popular ones so it may be a while and keep in mind that they will only produce toys that they think will sell.
  21. In kinda a related note. Can anyone recommend some good tutorial sites?
  22. Does anyone know what rank Max and Millia were in M7?
  23. Okay, I've always wanted to see more background on these guys. I've read that they are the Zendradi that were condrolled by the Protodevlin, but they existed (in terms of the real-life story production) prior to M7. So, were their history retconned too? I also remember hearing that they were just a separate faction of Protoculture. Anyway, if anyone has some good info, that would be great.
  24. I've been checking around ebay and i haven't found a single one of these kits. Any idea where i might find one or how much they are?
  25. I just got my first 1/100 today (after owning a Yamato 1/60 for a few months and two 1/55 MPCs for a little less than that) and honestly i'm not very impressed at all. Well, that depends. You can get one Yamato 1/60 (probably a VF-1A Hikaru) for the same price (or a little more) as the set. Personally, I'm glad i only bought one because in terms of quality it's not that great. When i first took out my Yamato, i was like, "this is really cool". It had a nice beefy weight to it and it looked really good. When i opened my 1/100, i was quite disapointed. Sure i heard it wasn't that great, but i thought it couldn't be that bad...but it is . It's made with really cheap plasic, the instructions suck, and the arms and legs fall off all the time (i think they're supposed to come off, but they fall off all the time) On the up side it comes with a display stand. So, it's pretty much a matter of quantity over quality. If you want to start a little display collection, you could probably be okay with these. However, if you want a really cool, durable toy that you can display and play with, go with a 1/60. look in the super-big thread You have to take off and store the hands while the toy is in fighter mode. You also have to change the hands if you want a open hand, fist, or to hold the gunpod. (but, everything else will fall off too)
