Macross 25th Anniversary! New TV series coming!
RDClip replied to wolfx's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
1) I really hope they still have pilots. I don't know about anyone else but a series about a bunch of guys sitting in a booth 1000 miles from the battlefield controlling planes seems pretty boring to me. 2) if this is truly post-Mac7 i hope they have some super advanced valks. Imagine a manned valk with the manuverability of the Ghost-9 from Mac+. 3) Well, if we see the AFOS or not i just want there to be an explination of what the hell it was. 4) Thats a biggy. If he does that may make any further series have not much to go on. But, he may just do what the previous series' have done and give us a little information on the PC pertaining the story of the series. 5) i'd like to see some new enemy valks. The ones in Mac7 were such a letdown, but the valks vs valks in Mac0 and Mac+ is what i want to see more of. 6) I would be interested in what earth is like post-Mac+ (which was the last time we saw earth, and only about 1 ep) -

I always thought Mac7 had a small budget and thus used cheating animation techniques (ie. constant recycling of shots) to get by. I would think this new production would have a big-ass budget and they do have 21 century animation technology. But, if we are right with the flight school thing, then the possibility of a full scale battle seems to be very implusible. -
Not like mine I felt a very depressing feeling when i realized i paid 60 bucks for a toy that while in fighter mode the nose sticks way up in the air leaving the landing gear a good 1/2 an inch off the ground. But hey the box is uber-cool Toynami will never get me to buy any more of their "masterpieces". The only products from them i'll ever get are their 1/100s and (not really their product) the Popbox 12 inch Macross character figures.

I'm really liking this new valk design. I was kinda paranoid that we'd get some new, awkward looking design, but it seems like Kawamori is liking to make all the Macross planes have a sort of evolution from one generation to the next. That is a great thing, it's brings up the realism in the Mac universe. -
Really nice job. For some reason i like how this kit has a kinda bulky battroid mode.

It seems to get better in ep 5. The pace is slowed down so your mind can process the story.

I'm still in hope. "School story" could mean a lot of things. Yes, yes we all jump to the conclusion that it will be like EVA where the main is a high school studen. Heck i'm really hoping now it will be something about UN Spacy flight school. I could actually see something like that being more like Mac+ than Mac7 or EVA or Gundam or whatever. -

Sort of case in point. The events in Sharon's final concert can be explained easily in that she was using holograms and some sort of mass hypnosis. Now if the events in Mac0 or 7 could be explained this easily there would be no arguement. I'd say these two series would be far less confusing if there was more emphasis on explaination and realism rather than relying on mysticism and suspension of disbelief. I don't really mind the fantasic content in many sci-fi anime, i just want to not have to suspend my disbelief all the time. Now back on topic, is the series slated for a september premeire? -

Probably, but i am hoping for a VF-25. I would reserve judgement on what Kawamori has up his sleeve for the story until i see at least the first 3 eps. We have to remember that Macross is a relatively small franchise. Of the series in it, Mac7 and Mac0 had the metephysical stuff and SDF:M and Mac+ were more realistic. As i said before if this new series does have mystical content i just hope they try to explain it properly. (not that lazy-assed explination in Mac7 or the no-explination in Mac0) -
I got the red shoulder one and a red gun!!! And i still wonder how the bootleggers can make a toy and use screws that are at least two sizes too big to put it together.

I hope they go in a different direction than whats already been done in terms or the intro and outro. They've done 80's pop and fast paced rock, i'd like something akin to the music in the openings of Witch Hunter Robin or Ergo Proxy. But, it all depends on the target audience (i just hope it doesn't have a Gundam SEEDish opening) -
Do the Megaroad class ships have Macross cannons? Update: Surprising, i guess no one knows.

I can't wait to see the new Batcave too. (oh god i hope they don't call it that )

I'm don't understand this logic. Mac0 (the most recent macross) had a very mature story. (Yes Mac7 was more similar to Sailor Moon than it should've been) The problem was just the approach. The Birdman and 'magic' in mac0 could very well be more advanced Overtechnology than what was in the SDF. I would just hope that the new series goes in depth into explaining the technology rather than just relying on suspension of disbelief. -

Yep he's only doing mecha design Didn't the creator abandon the project during production; thats why it's so comfusing? -
Christopher Nolan didn't direct Equilibrium, Kurt Wimmer did. (sorry to sound like a prick it's one of my fav movies ) But, i'm really looking forward to this. I hope they make joker a homicidal maniac even before his transformation not just some failed comedian (like in the comic 'killing joke' i believe) But, i can't seem to see pretty-boy heath leager as a bad guy.

That would be a problem However, at least this paint job would be pretty simple. Wouldn't be that hard to mask the areas you want to preserve (since the paint designs are all just straight lines) I'd say it'd be a cheaper and easier way than to buy 2 valks; one being just for parts.
-
Seems to me you could just buy a Roy and repaint it. The paint design of the DYRL valks (if memory serves me right) are all the same only differing in color and Max's valk was 001. If you want a really good job, it would be a good idea to dissassemble the toy so you can get inbetween the cracks and seams.

Therein lies the problem with him, it's always about himself. Look at the quote again: "I want to see how far MY music will take ME." Everything he did was for himself, he had no view of the bigger picture. The few times he tried to actually save people was when they where right in front of him, he never thought about the people that could've been suffering or dying because he was too damn stubborn.

Oh, I think I got into Macross toys in one of the best times for collecting in history.
-
To me the series always came back to Basara's arrogance. Everything he did was for his own self-righteous sense of satisfaction.

I'm hoping for something circa 2050's and a VF-25. -
Not True Basara sings for himself The only reason he ever gave was "I want to see how far my music will take me", kinda a selfish, stupid reason
-
Hopefully this won't become a pile of trash that (in my opinion) Gonzo's greatest crap-end series was, Kiddy Grade

Ya, so i watched the first ep last night Lets say it looked really really good (visually) but sure is confusing as hell. Series these days seem to be lacking that all important thing called 'introduction' and 'proper pacing'. I really hope that the 2nd ep will go back and explain things a little.
