Has Humanity truly surpassed Protoculture?
RDClip replied to dreamweaver13's topic in Movies and TV Series
No, but does humanity have the potential to? Yes. Seems to me the greatest merit of humanity is the ability to adapt. It is kinda remarkable that a mere 10 years after finding the ASS-1 they were able to restore and retrofit it to fit the needs of humans. Also take into account how they were able to utilize OverTech into their own creations by SW1. By the time Frontier takes place, humanity is developing their own technology loosely based on OverTechnology, but is uniquely human. But, i think the next step for humanity is the further development of genetic engineering and techno-organic technology. However its is kinda hard to tell how far advanced the protoculture really were, we only see mere remains of what they had. -
Macross Frontier Movie 1,YES it is subbed now edition
RDClip replied to sharky's topic in Movies and TV Series
It's possible, it actually happens a lot in anime to compress a whole season into a feature length movie. I was thinking since MacF had many rehashes and homages to the original series, maybe this movie will be to MacF that DYRL was to the original series. so some plot changes, but generally keeping the same story, just in a shortened format. -
I don't really see the football analogy working. Macross fans aren't really competing with Robotech fans. I was thinking about this earlier today, if HG and Robotech ceased to exist, or never existed in the first place, it would have had absolutely no effect on the macross franchise. Since macross is japanese and Robotech doesn't exist there and the fact that macross has done fine all these nearly 3 decades without major international presence, there would have still been all the sequels and whatnot. I can understand why macross fan would be angry at robotech, but i can't understand the other side. What possible reason do Robotech fans have to be pissed at Macross or its fans?

I always figured Yamato would be based on a backdrop of japanese nationalistic pride. However living in a world were most historical movies are made by Americans where americans are the heroes, i can let it slide. (i'd personally like to see more WWII movies about what the British endured) But speaking of wars and stuff, i always found it funny how the Yamato basically exterminated the entire Gamilan race at the end of the 1st season. It kinda makes the humans out to be pretty terrible.

Kinda sad that this is the most active thread in this site. Also kinda sad i like reading it so much, lol.

I heard about this a few weeks ago and it looks pretty interesting. Yamato is one of my favourite vintage series, so i'll download it when it comes out. Realisticly it shouldn't be that hard to summerize the 1st season into a movie (didn't they do that anyway in animated form?) Looking forwards to seeing a advanced realistic CG Analyzer sexually harass yuki, lol.

I noticed the VF-4 in the movie a long time ago, one of the latter TV episodes has it in model form too. BTW, those screens look better quality than my copy of DYRL, what version is that?

i personally liked both zero and frontier. they both have their merits and flaws but are overall are fun and interesting. i disagree about the trend of badmouthing Kawamori, i believe he has kept the macross franchise generally good and not too far out there unlike say Hideo Kojima or Hideaki Anno have done with their most famous franchises. In the end i believe that Kawamori has kept Macross true to what the franchise is about. and P.S to everyone in gerenal: don't complain about fanservice in Macross Frontier. There was loads of fanservice and sexual humour in the original SDFM and all 80's anime for that matter.

i believe shin survived, i think i heard once that the movie version of macross zero in frontier is based on shin's autobiography. so i still kinda have no idea wtf the end of zero is supposed to mean.

http://nandakorea.sakura.ne.jp/koreanihtml/c_10.html I was looking for some papercraft designs a few days ago and came across this...thing. my best guess is its some kind of korean knockoff animation of macross (kinda like the Turkish Star Trek)

72 gigs here Macross Frontier soundtrack is my most listened to playlist. When i see a real world fighter, i wonder what it's gerwalk and battroid modes would look like. -
Something i've been wondering about that kinda connects to my story of first becoming a Macross fan. I first came to know of Macross 12 years ago when i was lucky enough to catch a showing of Macross Plus on cable. This was before i was an anime fan so this was a defining moment in my life (well, for hobbies at least). I was enamored by the fast-pace beautiful action scenes and the awesome fighter jet combat, but i wanted the whole thing to just be about jets and none of this silly robot stuff. So there it is, i used to think mechas were silly. Now i appreciate mechas and some of my favourite anime series are mecha (other than macross theres patlabor, FMP, rahxephon, etc) So i'm just wondering what mode got you guys into the Macross franchise?

I dont think theres anything wrong with just liking the original. As long as you watch the sequels with an open mind and no expecting it to just be a rehash of the original, fell free to dislike them. I will say, though, that Mac7 and Mac0 are more aquired tastes. When i first saw Mac0 i wasn't into the story and when i first watched Mac7 i HATED it. However, as i rewatched them, i kinda changed my expectations and tried to see them differently than just a 'sequel' and now i can say that i like them.

Desteroids in Macross are always presented as boring cannon fodder. the only time they accomplished anything is when there is 200 of them in the bow of the daedelus. Seems to me Kawamori doesn't really seem interested in desteroids at all. Miyatake designed all the original desteroids and i dunno if he is still involved in the macross franchise. Frankly if you want to see ground based mechas, there are many hundreds of anime about them. Macross is about planes.

unless you live in alaska or ontario, you don't get special treatment in getting blown up.

just looked up the timeline on the compendium. in 2 months time the omni-directional barrier will explode over Ontario on dec 7. Oh no !!! (note my location)
-
Macross Zero had a few non VF mechas (the awesome carrier desteroid) but desteroids have proven pretty useless against a fast VF. And considering that valkyries can provide the same duties as a desteroid via armored and GBP system why bother with them.

very cool, looks like the Vf-27 had a slightly different design before the final

Poor, poor Riber.

Saw the trailer today, it was pretty good. I just hope the vast majority of the movie will be new footage, i hate it when anime movies recycle the footage from the series to make most of the movie (if you've seen the RahXephon movie, you know what i'm talking about.) -
Seems to me that a modular construction ship would be easier to build and repair.

I'm quite sure we haven't seen the pinnacle of Protoculture technology (other than the Evil series). The Zents and by extention, their armaments were mass produced weapons in a galaxy-wide war. Obviously they would build them to be as cheap and durable as possible. Hopefully we can someday see some higher end technology of the protoculture. Because they developed a technology that the humans are just beginning to use: Techno-Organic technology. The bird human and the Evil are probably the highest they got(considering they were wiped out by the Evil). Macross Galaxy seems to be making strides in the areas of cybernetics and (presumably) genetic engineering.
