Just quoting an old post of mine in case someone else finds it useful in some way... As an update sadly the rubber around the hip joints decayed to the point of crumbling away and also weakening the surrounding plastic, which broke in multiple places. Not really repairable so the big guy is destined for the bin I think. Shame as it had so much shelf presence I'll make do with my Bandai 1/20's

Anyone have experience tightening the joints on the Yamato 1/12 Scopedogs? The hip ball joints in particular on my Turbo Custom have gotten very loose and I believe it is the rubber "weeping" and not providing any friction. The wheels are doing the same thing (it's like they have a slight oily coating) although the rubber doesn't actually appear to be decaying as such. Was planning on giving all the rubber bits a wipedown with some isopropyl alcohol but not quite sure if this will make things better or worse. Thanks.

Have to say that the Virtue looks a bit plain although that might just be the result of Bandai only releasing CG images (something I wish they wouldn't do). In general though I do feel that the current generation of MG's lack a certain charm and presence compared to those released prior to the MG Jegan (which started the downward spiral as far as I'm concerned...)

Can anybody vouch for HiDive.com? This seems to be the only streaming service with the Patlabor and Votoms series available and I've given up at this point trying to find either of them on dvd...

I've been impressed with the Vallejo acrylic spray paints that act as a primer but still come in a nice range of colours and have had good results with their matt top coat. Pricewise (where I live anyway) much more cost effective too as ~$22 for a 400ml can vs ~$12 for 100ml of Tamiya / Mr Hobby. ETA downside seems to be availablity compared to Tamiya / Mr Hobby... this may be due like so many other things atm to Covid...

I wouldn't say no to a Version 2.0 Kampfer but I don't think the original is a terrible kit and indeed has some nice features (although certainly not up to the standards of some of the more modern kits) and there are are other kits that could use a Ver 2.0 first - the GP variants in particular. The GP-03 I built was so bad I gave it away to my nephew at the first available opportunity... Eagerly waiting for a local release of the NT-1. Now there's a kit that's crying out to be repainted in a more militaristic scheme - I have ideas of doing it in a quasi GBP woodland-camo style.

I don't know any of the history of the NT-1 but is there a connection to Macross somewhere? Some elements of its design seem to take direct cues from the VF-1 armour, especially the arm and leg attachments. 'UNT Spacy' would seem to be an obvious link of some sort. In any case I want it now!

Just built the new 'MG' Jegan and it does not deserve the Master Grade tag... should have been RE/100...

The PG 00 SS seems to me more of a stop-gap while they work on something else new in the background. The Exia wasn't released that long ago and PG releases aren't especially frequent anyway... this is me assuming though that it's just some extra parts for the existing PG 00.

Seems like P-Bandai is about 90% of what is being released lately. I wouldn't mind so much if the value for money was there but having bought a few MG P-Bandai kits it disappoints me that in some cases almost a third of the parts in the box ended up being unused.

I'm kinda surprised they stuck with karate and didn't move to a more MMA based story.

The MG Sinanju was the first Gundam kit I ever built - it's not that difficult. Having said that I didn't go all out with it in terms of painting etc... The gold embellishments however are absolutely not easy and you might want to look at some youtube tutorials for those - reverse washing in particular. At the time I tried painting them with a gold gundam marker and the results were... varied... I've also built the PG 00 Raiser and that went together easily as well. I'd actually argue that PG kits are in many ways easier to build than some of the smaller scale stuff as the parts are in general bigger and easier to handle. How does everyone else feel about dry-transfers? I really like them and would like it if kits included more of them (would be especially nice if Bandai would make them available as builders parts like they do with water-slide decals). There's a definite learning curve to using them but the results are so good...

Don't know why anyone would be worried about the Shuttle not making it through Ideas - it's not like Lego doesn't have a history of releasing it in some format...

I have the Jesta linked above sitting next to me - great kit as far as MG's go. Very solid and still looks good without any paint. Comes with stickers and a small amount of dry transfers. I don't tend to do much painting but when I do I use Tamiya acrylics, mostly as they're probably the most easily available paints where I live. Also use gundam markers here and there - some people don't like these but they have their uses... Personally have built around 30 MG's and 7 PG's using not much more than a pair of nippers and a small Swiss army knife so don't get sucked in to thinking you need a huge array of tools to build them. My preference with MG kits is to stick to the newer releases as some of the older ones definitely feel dated. Anything with 'Ver 2.0' is usually a safe bet. Would probably advise avoiding the MG Victory / V-Dash kits as their inner frames are quite different to other typical MG's and can be somewhat tricky to work with.
