Oh, I know why it is the way it is. This pic's just the first I've seen it so prominently displayed, and directly above a part others have been critical of.... But like I said, these are minor nitpicks. My major beefs are elsewhere.

Federation Vs Klingon/Romulans & Other
Alpha OTS replied to Roy Focker's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I was in GameStop browsing today and saw the PS2 Star Trek Encounters for 10 bucks. I picked it up because this thread has put Star Trek on my brain. Seems worth 10 bucks so far. I love watching and listening to Klingons, but I never understood how they were ever a technological force(militarily or otherwise) to be reckoned with because a Klingon scientist is pretty much an oxymoron. I'll go with Federation during the TOS movies. The technology is better but not as stifled by technobabble, and space is still a vast and unexplored ocean. -
Something that calls for a proper use of die-cast? Surely you jest......

I know that picture's pointing out the gaping hole in the missile bay, but I can't help buy notice the oddly shaped knee above it. Then again, both of these things are pretty far down on the list.

The Second-to-Last Starfighter?!
Alpha OTS replied to bsu legato's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Centauri: Alex! Alex! You're walking away from history! History, Alex! Did Chris Columbus stay home? Nooooo. What if the Wright Brothers thought that only birds should fly? And did Galoka think that the Ulus were too ugly to save? Alex Rogan: Who's Galoka? Centauri: Never mind. Alex Rogan: Listen, Centauri. I'm not any of those guys, I'm a kid from a trailer park. Centauri: If that's what you think, then that's all you'll ever be! -
Gerard Butler Talks Black Freighter Exclusive: On The Watchmen DVD extra! It’s been rumoured for a while now, but Gerard Butler has confirmed to Empire that he will be lending his vocal talents to the animated Tales Of The Black Freighter short that Zack Snyder is planning as a companion piece to Watchmen. The Scottish actor had been linked with a role in Watchmen for a long time, but when nothing materialised, it seemed likely that he wouldn’t be linking up with his 300 director on next year’s eagerly-awaited blockbuster. But, when Snyder hatched plans to film the Tales Of The Black Freighter comic-within-a-comic that tells the tale of a castaway’s mental and physical deterioration and damnation as he tries to intercept a ghost freighter headed for his hometown, and include it on the Watchmen DVD, Butler’s name surfaced once more. And, speaking to Empire just the other day, he told us that he had committed to the project. “I’m going to do the voice of the captain,” said Butler. “They’re going to do it in the style of a Japanese anime and I’m totally stoked. “I actually read the script before reading the comic book and I thought it was awesome,” continued the 38 year-old. “Then I read the comic book and it’s great. The little bits that have been added define it so much more. It’s very dark and there’s just something so descriptive and scary. It’s this descent into madness but explained in such a sane way that you totally feel it yourself. By the end, my heart was pumping!” Although considered extraneous to the plot of the movie proper by Snyder and his predecessor, Paul Greengrass, Tales Of The Black Freighter is a story that deepens the impact of Watchmen’s main plot, mirroring the arc of a character we won’t reveal. As a side project, the anime approach is brave and the addition of Butler – who has a great speaking voice – makes this even more exciting. Let’s hope he keeps that Scottish burr. Watchmen will be released next March. Chris Hewitt

Well, it arrived. There are some things I love about it, and some things I'm dissappointed in. This is probably going to go through a redundant laundry list of things that have been listed in past pages of this thread, but anyway, my turn..... I love the size. I was prepared for small, and it was a little bigger than I expected, which was a very pleasant surprise. The scale fits my needs. I love the color too, which is why I waited for this version. The transformation was also more complicated than I expected, which was a plus. Most of the joints are very tight. I was a little worried about breaking it during the first couple transforms. The negatives mainly have to do with qc, one of which is greatly exacerbated by the diecast legs. I hate diecast for the sake of diecast, and that's clearly what this is. It adds weight, which I guess is supposed to make me feel like that's the substantive reason why it costs so much. Problem is that in ship mode the left and right "shoulders" don't lock into their respective shoulder cannons, but instead rely on the strength of the shoulder cannon movement-bar mechanism to maintain the shape of the ship mode. The legs essentially fold in closer to each shoulder therefore closer and pretty much connected to said mechanism. Each of the mechanisms are ratcheted and pretty stiff, but the tolerances on mine aren't identical, which wouldn't have been a problem except for the fact that on the far end of the ship is where the leg thrusters and *ALL* of the diecast are which balances a ridiculous amount of weight against that mechanism. So a part that should be perfectly symmetrically flush isn't, and the end result is that in ship mode the back of the ship's thrusters(legs) aren't level with each other. It's not a great amount, but it's enough to really irk me(I instantly zoom in on it). Another minor problem related to this comes in with the pegging system for the front of the ship. The weight of the diecast also pulls on the very front of the ship which is where it pegs together, but it's a loose fit, so trying to adjust anything behind it pretty much automatically unpegs the front of the ship. The ship does look fantastic. If anyone has a tip or recommendation on how to make this less of a problem, I'd love to hear it. I don't know if it'll help though, because when I go to battle mode, it's pretty clear there's a difference between the shoulders. I can see a seam open in the back of the right shoulder when I move the cannon into place, something the left one doesn't do. But ironically, it's the left one that's having the diecast balance problem in ship mode. Battle mode looks fantastic too, and is probably how I'll normally have it displayed.

Posted this in a picture thread on another board, but thought it might fit here too.

Excellent pics, Dante. The old version still looks really nice, but the new one looks even nicer, imo. Glad to hear it has tighter joints too! UPS tried to deliver mine today, but I was still at work. I just told them to hold it, and I'll be picking it up at the UPS office tomorrow! I just sold off my 1/5700 partforming SDF-1(shipped it out to the ebay winner today, you can see pics of it here). Can't wait to have its replacement!

Yikes, I'll say. That blue paint tube stuff looks awful! Screamer looks nice in metallic colors. Is he more movie accurate than the first figure though?

I can't help but think about some transformers with backpacks that have heels that expand backwards and wonder if that would have solved the balance issue in the MH. Fantastic pics Roboto. Let's see some more dynamic poses without the stand.
-
Can you put the MH into any kind of dynamic pose where it doesn't need a support? Side by side(thanks for the pics!), the MH has much better colors, and the CM colors look cheap in comparison. I wish the wheels were bigger on the MH so the bike didn't look so small, but that'd probably introduce even more balance issues.

Ace Combat 6:Skies of Liberation for XBOX360!
Alpha OTS replied to Shin Densetsu Kai 7.0's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I was trying to do both. You can't get close to them at all without taking some damage now. -
Did you pull the left arm off your Cain too? That's something I did accidentally, because I thought the arm did move but it was just stiff. Luckily for me it came off like a square peg and socket, not sure if that's how it was originally attached, but fortunately I can reattach it like normal, or put it in different 90 degree poses. The jetpack Robo is a very nice depiction of the Robocop from the movie. Thing is, I never liked the design of it much because I have trouble buying the physics of it. They purposely overemphasize the weight of Robo's titanium hide in all media he's featured in, which is part of the reason just even watching him walk is cool, but then with a relatively tiny jetpack with no fuel tank he has VTOL and flight capabilities? Heh, then again, that aspect of the movie is the least of its problems: "I thought your ninja was going to kill Robocop!?" The Prime Directive "movies" series are pretty good though, and far more of a Robocop 3 than 3 was. At least Robocop is the central character in them. Never cared for the preceding tv series much though.

Ok, between that and the one new pic Alex posted, I'm confused. Can the MH stand on its own or not?

Ace Combat 6:Skies of Liberation for XBOX360!
Alpha OTS replied to Shin Densetsu Kai 7.0's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Lots of new DLC available. The game also made me apply a patch when I first loaded it up too, don't know what that's about. - The first Ace of Aces mission - Battle Royale DL 1 - Co-Op Battle DL 1 - Siege Battle DL 1 and some other obscenely priced DLC repaints re-stats of existing planes. Actually, the whole lot of it's still obscenely priced. Each thing I mentioned above is a seperate DLC ranging from 100 to 350 credits each. edit: Found this post on gamefaqs detailing what the update did: "(1) The leaderboards were wiped clean: everybody has a new chance to get ranked, and the boosters will have to do it all over again. (2) The microphone icon flashes now when a player is speaking in the lobby (aka 'room') before a match, so you can tell who is speaking (and who has their TV turned up too loud). Also, an audio cue when a player enters the lobby (aka 'room') has been added. (3) Points scored during a match are now prominently displayed at the bottom of the screen AS THEY ARE SCORED, so you know what you have accomplished points-wise as it happens. (4) Points per hit are now awarded in Team Battles (not just per kill), which is a nice touch. (5) Crashing is now a huge penalty (1000 points), but getting shot down is only a 200 point penalty. This should discourage crashing to reload or to avoid getting shot down. (6) QAAMs seem to be a bit weaker, at least in terms of long-term tracking. But the XMA*s seem to track better than before." I'm pretty sure that microphone thing includes in-game too, not just the lobby, but I haven't been online yet to confirm. I like the point scoring changes and points per hit displays, except I'm not too sure what to think of the -200 point penalty for being shot down just yet. Edit: Edit: I dl'd the first Ace of Aces mission, which is just mission one with increased difficulty and some more mission target parts(that I noticed so far). Haven't finished it yet because I was shot down by a B-52. Yeah, you heard that right. They have tail gunners now that actually can hit you, plus it takes more than two missiles to take one down now. -
The Second-to-Last Starfighter?!
Alpha OTS replied to bsu legato's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Centauri? Skip a sequel to the Last Starfighter? And miss all the excitement? Ha-ha, no. I was merely dormant while my body repaired itself. Ah well, enough with the details. Suffice it to say, you're on Rylos, my boy. Stop thinking human. That's Lesson Number One. Lesson Number Two...You've got a good thing going here. Keep smiling, don't blow it. Lesson Number Three: Always trust Centauri... I always read that the Last Starfighter hasn't aged well, but damn, it still has some great and memorable quotes. It's a shame that the HD DVD was shovelware, because it really deserves a hi-def transfer so those at-the-time cutting edge CGI fx don't look so grainy. For those of you unaware, there's a freeware fan made PC version of the videogame seen in the movie here! Same graphics and voices from the movie, and definitely a little bit of nostalgiac fun. And did Galoka think that the Ulus were too ugly to save? -
I was about to go CMS but then the latest MH pics showed up in this thread, and I decided to wait. But after Alex's review, I have the same issues you do. It looks fantastic, but I can't overlook those negatives.
-
I wouldn't go out of your way to buy it, but if it's coming in a set with the others, it's a nice extra.
-
Lame repaints are part of the reason BinALts stopped I thought, and they bring it back by doing more? This is exactly what I didn't want. The Meister at least, I can see a little marketability with the movie tie-in. I'll not buy one because I already own Meister in the colors I want. But BlueStreak? Completely unnecessary and pointless. A PITA mold to transform, and the paint job only makes it a slight variation of BinAlts that already exist. At least do something people want, take the truck mold and either a) paint it black, pop Swindle's head on it and call it Trailbreaker or b) paint it green with some orange highlights in bot mode and call it Hoist. Or take the Scion, apply a red with black highlights in bot mode paint app and call it Ironhide. Or a Frenzy repaint of Rumble?(or is it a Rumble repaint of Frenzy?) Although I think the last suggestion was never released in the Binaltech line.

Just got mine too. That was pretty quick.

The PlayStation 3 Thread 80GB Edition
Alpha OTS replied to Gaijin's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Anyone download Tekken 5? How is it? -
They could have done that without the human super villian angle showing up, but I think that might have been the point. This is the future and super villians show up when you least expect it. Bulkhead being attacked by exploding kitty cats was pretty funny though. The battle had a whole Power Puff vibe to it.

Just finished the Black Arachnia and Soundwave episodes. Both were excellent, with the Arachnia episode being the clear better of the two. I loved the organic origin. It's just good storytelling. I'm really surprised at the number of G1 references they're throwing in, and even more surprised that they're being thrown in WELL. Edit: and does anyone else get a Captain America vibe from Sentinel Prime? Between the head design and the shield.
