I see more similiarities between the first waves of Classics figures, like Jetfire, and the Brave series of robots that Takara engineered. I'm surprised it hasn't been brought up much, but he, and especially his repaint, Treadbolt, are dead on homages to some Brave gestalt members. I found Universe Dinobot today, surprisingly. His knee articulation is killed by the transformation. You can barely bend his knees to a 45 degree angle, becaus the calf blocks it. You can unhinge the piece to retain articulation, however this does not look as good, as the legs in robot mode will now look very thin and the overall look will be unbalanced. Articulation everywhere else is good. The Henkei's definitely got the better paint job. I hate how the sword sculpt was compromised to turn it into a missle and to fit it into a launcher. The hilt is too high up. Had it been lower it would have looked far better, right now it looks like a child's nerf sword. I have to picture it not being there for it to look good, otherwise it is disappointing. The tail missle launcher looks okay as a missle launcher, if I remember correctly, didn't Dinobot use his tail with the halves split open as a machine gun in the show? This one has barrels sculpted in. In that respect, with the sword missle in, it looks like a gunsword, though a bit overkill due to the long tail halves. Cheetor and Dinobot manage to not outright outdo their vintage counterparts, which is disappointing considering those were made 10+ years ago. Dinobot has better stability but leg articulation is far inferior to the original. The sword on the original is far superior, no matter how it is held. The old one didn't need a missle launcher, and niether did the new one. Cheetor could have turned out far better without the gimmick, I'm not even sure why it was implemented. Wow the eyes change color. Big deal. I do like the shuriken gimmick, and the beast mode, but even the beast mode looks weird once you get to the rear legs and waist section. Realistic? That part sure isn't. Proportions in robot mode suffer, bad, with the arms. The first one has superior proportions. Some of you may say he is far too thick, therefore inaccurate to the show. I don't care. I prefer the looks of the original figure. You can skip Cheetor, he isn't horrible but he is not the huge improvement we would expect from a new version. Not the worst figure I have ever bought by far, but definitely not one I would recommend to everyone. Chances are, if you have the original, you might not need this one. Now Dinobot, the stability is better in robot mode, unlike the original, the shoulder hinges will not move everytime I move the arms. The raptor mode is better, however it's weird to see chest claws, when he already has the claws on his dino arms. What the hell? It is weird. I LOVE how the lower legs form, HATE how they kill knee articulation. When I say KILL, I mean there is effectively not much knee articulation with those parts in place. It is a HUGE disappointment for me, I'm not a guy that wants overdone articulation everywhere but I'm a guy that hates it when articulation is hindered. Proper updates? These characters deserve better. -
By eliminating the BS(useless humor, don't get me wrong, I loved some of the humorous aspects but hated some of them too, the grandma part you mentioned was funny but other parts like the autobots trying to hide in a neighborhood, Prime saying "my bad"), focusing on better camera work, focusing more on the robots(good god this is a movie about them right?, and more. You guys are arguing over different things. You are arguing about character development, the other is arguing about the serious tone of the movie being diminished by writing which would have been better considering the big budget and time taken. Yes you cannot expect more character development in a movie than in a TV series, but yes the movie could have been written much better.

If you're content with casually handling the VF-25 and favoring appearance most, get the model. If you want something to play with but can accept that it looks different than the anime(not just because it is a toy, but because of the obviously different direction that Kawamori/Bandai went with), buy the toy. -
I definitely agree that the movie could have been written better. There was more than enough time to kill the corny hacker subplot of TF1. It wasn't a neccessary subplot. I did enjoy TF1, I thought it was a great movie, but it wasn't perfect. The small things add up. I'm not talking about how it differs from G1, to be honest, I didn't even care about that aspect as time went on, as the movie is a different continuity just like all the other TF series we have had these past years. I didn't mind some of the comedy, Bernie Mac's part was funny, and some of the other jokes, but I also detested the forced comedy in the scene where the Autobots hide from Sam's parents, around his house. I do hope that this new movie has more focus on the robots, less useless/corny jokes, and also, more focused camera work. Bay broke the 180 rule and tended to go back and forth in many shots, and that annoys me. I hope that this time around, the corniness of the jokes doesn't tarnish the seriousness of the movie.

He had 2 hands, the cannon effectively disguised the hand it was held by for movie accuracy. Considering that Hasbro and Takara had to get the designs started in 2005 and done within a year(line was supposed to initially hit november 06, if not a month earlier, as the movie was set for november 06), as well as the CGI designs not even being finished by the time Hasbro and Takara started the figure designs, I'd say it is fairly close, given what they had to deal with. You are asking for Masterpiece Quality or higher. Given time and popularity, I wouldn't be surprised to see some characters made that way years later, but not now. It also does not help that the animators cheated with the designs, none of them are perfect transformation onscreen, it's just disguised very well. If we were getting a collector based toyline, I'd expect more detail and accuracy, but we aren't, we are getting a toyline that caters to a vast audience, kids, and adults included, though the latter is not priority. Engineering wise, it is a large step above many mass market Transformer lines before it, I've always said that no matter the styling, the Animated, classics 2.0, and movie figures have impressive engineering, look past the aesthetic and you'll be able to see it. No. Yamato is used to making smaller production run, collectible toys catered to a much older fanbase. I can understand why you guys don't like some of these toys, if there were movie toys only aimed at us, then yes I would expect more, these are not aimed at the same guys who only collect MP Transformers or Binaltechs. U.S. Retailers loved the movie line, have faith in realistic vehicle based Transformers again(just not as complicated as Alternators), and the line has done exceptionally well for Hasbro. As a business, it should come to no surprise that they will be focusing a huge effort on the Movie line and their audience which they will cater too, the majority being kids. Maybe we will get MP movie figures. I'd love to see that happen. Haskara can do it. Whether they will or not remains to be seen. -

Rise of Cobra heads up! Also I finally found a Ninja Viper recently(only one left in the store, bear in mind I rarely see waves 11+), and was surprised at how well it turned out. Makes me want the originally planned wave 12 Storm Shadow & accurate v2 Storm Shadow even more. Hasbro has all the neccessary parts for an accurate V2 Storm Shadow, using the Ninja Viper mold, all it needs is an accurate belt! -

I think Universe will be back sooner than last time. It wasn't too far behind other Transformers lines, and Bill Rawley did say that if it was successful, that the designers would get right back on it. In the mean time, I am looking forward to the TFC Toys, FansProject, and other fan group offerings. -

No they weren't. Macross Plus Toys were designed started shortly before 2000. Bandai's Macross 7 toys were designed between 1993-94. It's not a fair comparison at all. -
About the newly released Yamato Macross 1/60 VF-1J

Diecast content consists of the swing bar, and the supporting pieces under the chest. Transformation is similar to the 1/48, just make sure you gently life the shoulder hinges above the stopper when going to gerwalk/battroid mode, and for the swing bar, to detach when going from battroid back to fighter, pull on the back piece to angle out the swing bar, rotate both hips simultaneously forward, this will pop out the nose hatch, then merely push the bar up and out. When going from fighter to battroid, move the nose/cockpit section up, when going back to fighter, pull it back down after the hip bar is pushed out. -

No the people that have an open mind here when it comes to Bandai can be counted by the handful. The amount of people here that cut Yamato slack is exponentially higher. Also, the problem is much easier to fix on the DX than on most Yamato toys, like the 1S shoulder hinges, repairing the broken neck pieces on the YF-19(if they break on yours), et, al. It's just replacing a screw. Maybe adding some lubricant to the left shoulder ball joint. Either way, there are far less breakages of the DX VF-25 toys compared to the Yamato v2 1/60 VF-1 toys. Yes, you, Scream Man, and a few others have VF-1S toys that have not broken at all. Good for you guys. I wish mine was like that. I also wish it was as easy to repair as just changing out a screw. If it was as easy as that, I, and many others wouldn't have brought it up so much in the first place. Truth is, it isn't as easy as that. It is just a bandaid. m0n5ter's fix seems to be the only one that may actually work. If it wasn't such a detrimental problem, I doubt Graham wouldn't have even bothered talking to the factory owner. If you don't speak up with constructive criticism, NOTHING ever gets fixed. No I'm not talking about some of the "WTF BANDAI WHY CAN"T HAZ IS YAMATO LICENSE INTERNETS NBROPKLENZ OMGZ SUCKORZ!" posts, I'm talking about constructive criticism, not fanboy rants. Hell the Japanese fans maybe even more vocal than we are, we just don't here about it because most of us can't read Japanese. Yamato did mention years back, that those guys take their valks in the shower with them, so obviously some of the valks get treated much rougher there than here. -
