Official Bandai 1/60 Scale DX Toy Thread Ver.5
Shin Densetsu Kai 7.0 replied to azrael's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Oh god yea! Yeah but Kakizaki at least tried, and even got a few kills....note.. "few". Seeing him PWND in the process, like that time Vritai basically destroyed his VF-1A was funny. Agreed, he could have at least told Nanase how he felt. -
I don't flame, I debate and abide by the rules here. I've been here longer than that, 2003 was just when they did major board changes enabling all of us to resign under new names. I don't denigrate your opinions just because of when you joined, I just point out stuff and debate it, irregardless of join date. No I think it's quite possible for there to be retools, Yamato has retooled many of their releases. 1/48 VF-1A Max DYRL? had the tighter attached flaps/nosecone, VF-0 w/GHOST had the fixed arms due to retooled parts, and that's just a small number of their many retooled toys. They've done this since their 1/72 YF-19 1.5 there is no reason they will stop now. Oh I definitely know....haha I'm with you on that one. I hear that the 19 is the worst of the 1/60 Macross Plus releases. The spine in fighter mode, cracked arms, in at least one case, dismembered arm above the elbow, non locking torso, et al. Sounds like the VF-11 is a world of difference.

Could also be that Luca SUCKED as a character...IMO -
I saw this movie and liked it. It could have been better, and comparisons to other movies aside, I enjoyed it. It's up there with X2 for me, but not better than Iron Man. It was better than last year's Hulk and Punisher War Zone IMO, both if which I enjoyed(yeah I actually like the latter, thought it was ridiculous and didn't take itself too seriously, but fun at the same time. It was way better than X3. Now there were things that I didn't like. Sabretooth running on all fours. Come on. That looked corny. It didn't matter to me if it was comic accurate or not, it just didn't look cool, nor very believable. I'd much rather see him as a brawler who ran towards you and slugged at you with fists and nails, not hopping around like a seal chasing a beachball at a circus. I didn't like the exaggerated guns-a-blazing scene in the beginning with Zero. It could have been done better without being inspired by the Wachowski's and/or John Woo. Some of the action scenes in general were just too over the top for me. Yes it's a comic book movie and yes it's to be expected, but I'd like to less cliche action sequences. Gambit jumping 30-40ft in the air to look cool for the camera after blowing up a bridge didn't really look cool to me. Other than that I thought most of the 1 on 1 fights were good. Wolvy and Sabretooth had intense bouts. Despite being different from the comics, I like the twists that were shown in this movie. You can definitely tell that it was inspired by the old, and even some of the recent books from a few years book, even after Origins; it paid homage to them even if it wasn't by replicating certain incidents verbatim. I didn't mind that, I thought it was a neat touch, it was cool to notice these things and remember where it came from. I also liked how it tied into X1. The humor wasn't that bad, which is something I typically worry about with comic/toy/whatever-based movies, like the upcoming ROTF. I didn't mind Deadpool, would have preferred that he had the costume from the comics of course, and that he didn't swing his swords the same way that every other swordsman in every other recent martial arts movie swings their swords. I will say that it looked a lot better in final form than in the workprint. It was funny to see why his mouth was sewn shut.

I've found that removing the missles by tilting them forward works better than pulling them straight out. This way the back end of the missle clusters braces against the wing and adds more force to get the peg out.

Most poseable hands can't hold anything worth a damn either. Case in point? 1/48 VF-1. Thankfully the v2 1/60 has a slot to latch the gunpod onto, on the poseable hands, yet still comes with fixed pose hands just in case. Man, I hated poseable hands on the HG 1/100 Gundam kits years back, awesome weaponry but good lucking getting your Gundam to hold it.

Licenses in Japan are based on scale. Bandai can make a VF100's VF-0 with Yamato not really having a problem. Bandai sat on the Macross 7 license as a whole and it's a different situation, but the rumor that a deal has worked out seems to be primarily on a per-design basis, as in 1 mecha and all it's variants. Bandai probably has the license for the VF-171 and if so, probably got the license for the VF-17 while Yamato gets to do any VF-11 variant they want. Same goes for whoever's got the VF-19 license in 1/60 scale. Since the YF-19 differs from the VF-19, it's possible that Yamato retains the YF-19 and can do any 19 variant so long as it is primarily based on the YF-19, for example any VF-19A is a go. Maybe Bandai has the VF-19Kai/P/S variant license, that VF-19 shares more with it's variants than the VF-19A/YF

$200? VF-25F from AE costs $10o something +_$20 something EMS to the states. Looks similar to MP Starscream which Kawamori also had a hand in designing. He overlooks landing gear. Same problem on both designs. Fixed pose hands are better for holding weapons than poseable hands, same reason why MG kits eventually went for fixed pose, same with most collector item toys. Poses on poseable hands are usually limited anyways, to holding gun, fist, to open hand. The team was not going for anime accuracy, if they were, it would be a different story. Yeah, Yamato might have had other problems like cracked shoulder hinges. Yes there are broken screws on some of the Bandai's, and yes it shouldn't be happening, but numbers speak, there are far less people who have gotten broken Bandai valks than those who have been Yamato'd, like me, who's been Yamato'd at least 3 times, maybe more if I decide to check my older Yamato valks. Yeah it is. These 4 together will only run you $5-700.

Why would I have to apologize to Graham? I don't see this as bashing you mindlessly I see this as pointing out that we already know some of the stuff that you are bringing up. The fact that you even bring up that I missed some random thread and the irony in it shows "mindless bashing", I don't even remember what you're talking about. If this is about the VF-11 thread and the miscolored kites I meant no offense to Graham and already stated that I was not accusing him of bullshit. Hell I wasn't accusing him of bullshit at all. If I did apologize, which you will probably try to run a search and quote me on, it's because of the way I may have come across, but I'm not going to confess to something I didn't do. Whatever you may want to think, instigate, or imply, I never accused him of bullshit. Like any other fandom, a lot of fans tend to have a sense of entitlement from a company that makes toys, this is not limited to here, I've been around it elsewhere. I acknowledged the fact that "hey some tips from here pointed Yamato in the right direction for the kite colors", why you even brought that thread up puzzles me. Possibly, but I think that the rumored deal with Bandai is per-valkyrie, as in if Bandai wants the VF-171, they can make similar variants, like the VF-17. Same goes for VF-11, and VF-22, I think we will see Macross 7 versions, as well as VFX-2 eventually. With Bandai already making a VF100's Fire Valkyrie, I have a feeling that they are planning DX Fire & Blazer Valkyries. Yamato tends to favor valkyries that may not always be the most popular, for example I wouldn't be surprised if they have the license for VF-9. So if a company were to go for a Pheyos or VA-3, I think it'd be them, with Tamashii primarily going for the hero mecha.

Unfortunately, the latter will most likely be in this movie too. -
I think August, MSRP in the US is $149.99, entertainment earth is already taking preorders.
-
It didn't, there are a few reported breakages on the 1J.

Even worse is the fact that those characters are intentionally written to be utterly stupid. Despite both of them being stupid, they are supposed to be heroic too. I have a feeling that one of them will make some sacrifice, and die, while the surviving brother uses the death as inspiration to try to kill Megatron, and get PWND in the process. Hasbro and Takara had more time this time around, primarily because the designs of the returning characters are for the most part, the same as in the last film. The new Leader Prime figure still isn't completely accurate, but it's pretty damn close, and a world of difference from the first Leader Prime figure from TF1(and honestly, I don't mind that figure at all, the Premium version is awesome, dig the head sculpt and blade). What improved most were the Robot Replicas figures. Some of those look spot-on to their CG models. I doubt I'd buy any, if I did it would probably be for reference. Other than that, they blow the first movie versions out of the water. -
Make sure the nose/cockpit section is pushed up all the way. Make sure the swing bar connected to the back, is at an angle, not parallel to the back. Make sure the middle of the bar is in the middle of the nose hatch, now at this point, make the swing bar flush with the back, making it parallel to it, all while the middle of the hip bar is in the middle of the nose hatch. It secures via motion of straightening the swing bar while the hip bar is in place in the middle of the nose hatch. Rotating the legs forward as the swing bar goes into the middle of the nose hatch helps a bit too.

A trick is to open the foot, and then grab the "heel"(back halve), and rotate it all the way back. This will inadvertently get the foot all the way out to full extension. There are 2 detents, pull it out to the 2nd detent for gerwalk mode(more foot mobility this way, but gap shows at the ankle), and pull it to the 1st detent for battroid mode(no gap at all at ankle; less mobility).

I didn't deny it. The fact that you even brought this up proves that you are trying to act smarter than you are. Face it, you are trying to tell people that have been here for years that something might be new, but in fact isn't. All I did was confirm exactly where the color schemes were seen, in this case the Hasegawa customs then the TIAS book that Graham mentioned, not some "hey it could be from..." theory. I have a feeling it was Kawamori trying to put a twist on the traditional "hero" colors of Japanese mecha/main characters; white w/red trim. To me, the off-white looks better in the anime than on the toys. I'm not the biggest fan of the double nuts just being the exact same thing only with faded trim, and white body. Maybe it'll look better in person. I think Graham proposed this to Yamato when the 1/48's were the "new" VF-1 toys, years back, but Yamato wouldn't do it. The idea was for blank 1/48 VF-1's molded in white with A/J/S heads, so you could pick which one you wanted to use, and swap with ease.
-
Shrug off? I don't, I'm always aware of it, I've been Yamato'd at least 3 times.
-
Yeah but it's not like anyone who was here before didn't know that. Yes those designs may have influenced the ones seen on the 19 in the TIAS book, but it's not news. People caught onto the fact years back. Anyways, onto more important matters. Graham, is Yamato going to retool the spine/neck piece in fighter mode, and use a more durable plastic for the bicep/arm swivels/joints in these next releases? How about tampo printing nearly all of the details instead of using stickers, as the v2 1/60 VF-1 and VF-11B have done?
-
Me too.
-
They are weak points on other toys, but not on the v1 1/60. It may also help that the hinges are locked into place securely both on it, and the 1/48.
-
I think the best alternative, is to make a hinge designed very similar to the v1 1/60 VF-1. There were absolutely no reported shoulder breakages on that hinge at all. There is also no metal pin side either. It's basically a rectangle with 2 nubs at the end that keep the hinges in place securely. It may have been made out of POM.
-
Also no need to pay a licensing fee to make toys from the series since technically they own it.
-
Well, I meant in regards to retaining the rights to your work. For example, the situation that the creators of Superman found themselves in with DC/Warner Bros. is unlikely to ever happen to the Image guys, where a legal battle over royalties, rights, licenses, and others goes for decades and still hasn't finished today I don't mind Fuhrman's stories, and I prefer Su's artwork over the marshmellow, bloated styling that Pat Lee would use and enforce his other artists to use as the "house style". As a sequential artist, I think Su is one of the better TF comic artists. For guys like James Raiz and Don Figueroa, I think their works post-dreamwave works are better because they didn't have to follow a house style. The best and worst thing about Dreamwave were their color applications. Awesome at first because a lot of mainstream companies weren't doing what Frozenlight and other Dreamwave companies were doing, but got to be overkill with way too many color applications making the colors muddy.
-
I'm hoping so too, it's a shame to see the v2 1/60 VF-1 maimed at such a simple part, because it is an otherwise solid toy, more solid in many areas than even the 1/48 VF-1.
