Most of the F-15 and F-16 kills were scored in BEkaa valley in lebanon circa '82. Most of these kills were documented as dogfights. The IAF is known for its dogfighting skills and in mock dogfight with one of the navy's airfleets on station near the mideast...annhialted the navy fleet 300+/92. this is not to say that the navy pilots suck but shows that the IAF is a air force to be reckoned with cautiously. They are skilled and operate the best that the air force can offer(although witha lot of sensitive avionics not given) David I do remember the F-4 proposals. They looked neat. IS the IF kurnass still operational? That plane is awesome and to my knowledge the IAF, tgreece, and luftwaffe are the only nations still operating phantoms...the IAFs being the last i heard of to use them as a full streangth operational fighter not limited to reserves. I know they were being replaced by the F-15I but I am not sure if full replacement has occured yet. BTW the canard phantom.....wouild that have been able to outurn the existing F-4E significantly? Also I alw=so read that the Phantom 2000 or kurnass from the israelies was able to out perform the F-18A. is this true?

I love the fact that the bandais got reissued for people lke me who couild nto get them as a kid,,,ad yamato doing something no one really tried before... making a NEW VF-1 toy design from scratch that LOOKS better than a takatoku and is perfct transformation and looks accurat=e to line art for the most part!

Hey if we publicly call George Sohn out, and ask him or demand a reason why these things are priced so high and what he can do with HG avbout it...do youj thnink anything will happen? I remember kevin interviewed the guy shortly after splitting with yamato. Seemed lke he was a fan first business later kind of guy. I kinda sensse hes not too happy abotu the pricing but I have my doubts...maybe the goo fan in him will prevail and tell HG to lower the price by at least 20$? oh and sorry for beign a pesimist but with HGS prices...I think the beta would be too much to make. Think aout it...alpha=80 whats beta gonna be? if its 80 fans will say blasphemy because they paid 80 for the way more smaller alpha previously. things gotta be in the 100$s range the way things are going now.

See if the JSF could outfly, outmmanuever, outgun, and outspeed the F-16, stealth or not, I would support the damned thing. That is my stance on it. Again planes that replace older planes should ECLIPSE the capability of the plane it is replacing. Stealth does not guarantee a invincibility against missles. Stealth also is nothing in a knife fight since the stealth plane by the time its close in for a dogfight is detectable on radar. Radar only means a smaller cross section and full blown detection delayed. Detection may not happen till much later. Why did the F1117s return unscathed in the gulf war shin? Well common sense also plays a part...stealth pilots arent told to fly directly in harms way since stealth is up the wazzoo on detection prevention, no they still avoid threat areas to preserve the full capability of stealth attack...which is to take the enemy by surprise. The JSF in my eyes has a lot to live up to if its a dedicated replace ment for the marines hornets and the air forces falcons. Those are true multirole fighters who only lack stealth...other wise they are superior to the JSF except in avionics.(althoguh I could be wrong on that part). Remember this plane is also a victim of false advertsising...Lockheed wants us to THINK this thing is a true multirole but its more of a jsut in cse protection thing......its proven that its 70% attacker. However if proviosions for sidewinder and asraam as well as guns are kept..then maybe I will have more faith in this plane as evidenced in the previous pages.

Ya know I just thought avbout it....green retarded(free fall or snake eys ml 82) bombs and a bomb rack would look AWESOME on a low viz. Imagine the payload of an A-6 or A-7 on a Low zviz-Vf-1 now that is awesome and a sight to see! Add on some antiradar missles...and we have a tactical strike attack VF-1! the 1/48 already has 4 holes to accomodate hardpoints as long as the attachement pegs are th same width. This has been discussed before? when? I remember talk of extra pilots and heads but not weaponry and swap out all new mold mission specific booster tips. Booster tips could opena wide variety of options like a sateelite buster guiidance bearing or an all new single big ass cannon instead of a dual beam strike cannon.

the onyl reason I feel the JSF should be supersonic is since its a replacement for the F-18/16...those planes need supersonic replacements that can outdo them. HOwever the JSF also happens to be the harrier replacement. F-15 and F-16 dogfights happened primarily in teh Bekaa valley of lebanon. The IAF shattered enemy air forces with almost not losses to the falcon and eagles...the main reason the eagles kill ratio overall is so damn high is because of that conflict alone. The israelis have the most kills with both of the planes. F-15s from the US airf force scored most of the kills in the gulf war. Even involved in the first company on company shoootdown when a saudi air force eagle shot down 2 iranian phantoms.

Hey guys and gals. As you aware, 1.48 scale is a nice scale for a valk toy since it is a scale commonly used by aiorcraft model kit manufacturers like hasegawa. When the f-1 line debuted by hasegawa, a nweapons kit followed soon after. NOw what I am wondering is...would you guys like one made? For example a accessory kit could include this -macross low viz pilot with silver or normal "fodder" generic helmet -DYRL pilot -TV pilot(this and above in generic colors) -Bombs that can swap with the missle cluster hardpoint(AAAm-1? whichever missle is mounted ona trihardpoint on the 1/48) -JDAm/LGB bombs -rocket pods -Long range missles -Fuel Tanks(I know its nucelear but its still cool looking) -anti radiation like missles. -LAser designator pods -TARPS pod(or instead of wing mounted,...swappable with the gun pod and doubles as a gun at one end,,,recon sensor at the other!) -wing launched drones -cruise missles with fold out wings -gatling gun pods(like the ones mounted on fighters for strafing missions if their internal cannot be enough..swapped out with gun pod OR carried alongside mounted on the wings hardpoints!) -DIFFERENT FAst pack covers! For example maybe new booster tips could be made..WITH different prposes! Like one with a radar dome attached or a booster tip swappable with a laser designator mounted in the front...the ppossibbilities are endless! For hand to hand combat...new arm armor that has blades. The outer shell of theleg armor could be remade and have proviosions to be a gun holder OR some other equipment like those bomb dispenser things that RAF tornadoes use. -something to tow the valkyrie -a ground crew with macross uniforms. -a weapon cart to carry around the weapons. And the possibilities are almost endless. We all well msot of us LOVE the 1/48 and I think add ons like this would not only add on to the p[layability, but enhance the glamour of it!

Imode, Its in the books and the specs show it cant out turn, out gun, our outspeed the F-16. If it could I would be all over it and PRo JSF. Its meant to be 70% attacker not essentially "bilingual " in air and tactical strike roles./ Also David, no the JSF can't supercruise. ONe of the books I read(which I presume you probably read as well) specifically states that it cannot supercruise. IT was brought up in a chapter of how it would compare to the F-16. How did it make it past the drawing board? The same way the super hornet passed. Politics, PRESUMABLY cheaper, and above all COMMONALITY. The concept which should have died once Macnamara left the DOD.

I relegated tm6y 1/60 to a display mode now. My /48 is much more stable an PLAYABLe...and not as proine to getting loo9se...my 1/60 is now a ragdoll whos legs fall off if you pick it up and tilit it sideways..YES that bad! This thing makes me happy my 1/48 is mostly plastic. I too like my 1.48 way more than my 1/60...my 1/60 wouild be even better on display if its gear wasnt so loose.

No BVR was a failure in vietnam and even today BVR tghoyugh shitloads better than vietnam, is not fully compliant witht eh advertisements that the pencil pushers like to say. tomcats shot off a few phoenixes over iraq in 98 and missed all of them. Oh and like I said before though the data shows the gun kills are less and les the gun is still needed. History should teach a lesson folks not be forgotten. Any fighterpolot will tell you that the gun is needed. Why elsew is the gun still on the typhoon? Why is it on the tornado? And hell why is the Su-37 being so exploited for close in knife fighting? I cant believe how people think the gun shoujld not be on the next gen fighters. Hel the 22 and the 23 had provisiosn for it while the demval was stil going on and even the UAE F-16 Block 60s got guns. The gun is IMPORTANT people. no matter how good radars and BVR gets do people realize you can STILL out run a missle? nope where did you hear that? THe F-35 is slower and much less manuerverable than the F-16. I am tellin ya the only thing its got going for it is being a cheap stealth. and the thing about pointing to vietnam? Because it is similar to today. No fighter pilot would want to go ino a dogfight without a gun. The Su-37 is so high threat because why? NOt only because of BVR but also because for a big ass fighter, it moves pretty well doing things you wouldnt imagine a almost 70 ft fighter plane to do in the sky. It defies gravity ina lot o ways. IN terms of history lets look at the facts. A lot of potential kills were potential because phantom riders in veitnam for the most part did not have a gun. Why do you think the crusaders had it good? The gun and manueverability were the main selling points and buuilding pioints for the F-15 and most fo the teen fighters. OH yea 50 yrs ago bleh. The gun is always needed in a fighter plane. Its the onyl weapon that cannont jam automatically and hell even the russian flankers got them. Sure not that many kills have been gun kills in the last 20 or so years but it is still needed. Alot of the MIg 21 kills that the IAF scored in yom kippur were gun kills. Remember technology is good but its not necesarily alwyas reliable. Sure stealth and BVR are good right? What if the JSF got into a dogfight, missed all its BVR shots and didnt have a gun btu had a decent pilot at the controls? Oh wait thats right he can only outrun the enemy pilot if he can speed out with enough gas. Oh wait thats right lets say this is an ambush with the F-22 CAP pilots already having there hands full. Sure to some of you the "just in case things" may seem minimal and a waste of money...but you gotta look at the history of they the damn gun was put back intop place to begin with. just as cheap as banprestos? dude those are like 12$ this thing might be 40-50$ Just as good as macross plus? Those are perfect variable and got diecast. Now if a perfect variable VF-0 with diecast was made at a bigger scale AT that price point, maybe then I would believe youi. This thing is meant to be cheap and to me I think made so a whole line could be affordable...while the perfecrt variable if made gets the colllector treatment. See with this cheap ass price point we can get a whole line of enemies and variants and I thhkn GPS add on is possible.

raptors have swinder ports built in speceifcally to give them clearance to lock on IR when the bay on the sides is open(the side bays are specifically for winders) The plane is less stealthy with external stores but UNLIKE the JSF can carry MUCH more internally then the JSF. THink JSF=light weaponry or less a lot less where ass F-22=LOTS of weaponry internally.

whoa I don't know about NOT yellowing...although I sincerely hope they won't yellow! Now as for not looking as good....they look unique....very very 80s nostalgia like. WHen I think macross VF-1 The first thing I think of is Bandai reissue. It's got so much class, durability, and I think the chunkyness is a facet of it's beauty! How can you NOT like it? It is like transformers. Though optimus prime 84 has no comparison to the masterpiece prime. Though the 1/55 maybe the original king...it's still got some good factes to it compared to the 1/48. WHile I do think the 1/48 is very7 very very awesome and durable...it still does not match the durability of the 1/55 and that is the only thing it can't match. Respectively the 1/55 is the holy grail of the 80s macross and the 1/48 is the holy grail of macross for fans who got older and wanted something with today's technology.

From what I observe the forums tend to work 3 ways 1-some overtly bitch 2-some worship Yamato like GOd and thinkk anything they make is like gold 3-some constructively criticize. With that in mind I think its good to criticize...certainly not too much...and certinaly not none at all. Being happy with flaws equates to the company not knowing what the hell is going wrong and being contempt with making stuff that people will blindly buy. Bitching isn't good because the company for the most part won't even look at it. NOw criticism in a formal, respectful manner does deserve and usually gets attention. There is a very thin line between the 3. Granted there are a lot of things I do not agree with and vocally say on these forums about but I try to undertsand what market nad such they are marketing to. I don't think the Yamato CEO would kill himself over reading this board, if anything some people on this board just get so sensitive that they take criticism on a toy as a personal attack at times. I think the Yamato CEO would just take what was useful from the posts he reads, and disregard the rest. Since yamato is a growing company I think they are just cautious of spreading more info out or timing it better. Remember graham said the japanese fans would make another fit if the qrau review was posted before it was officially released.

To be hoenst graham that gun is external and ton the smae effect might be the same that imode was talking about,. I read the articale nad I can only hope there really is 2 ourtboard stations with sidewinders. If i were a navy pilot i would say screw the bombs give me some winders! This gives me the impression that this plane is more lieka stealth A-4 skyhawk with advanced stores. Think about it,..maybe not as manueverable but weaponloads are similar.
