  1. Had they not rushed the game(its truly obvious they did...look at those water textures!!) I think they really could have had a chance to unseat AC4 and perhaps 5. I think they should continue it. Even though it was not on Xbox like its predeccessor what it lacked in grraphics it made up for in gameplay and story. They should diminish the dialogue and make the story better and a lot less crappy(SPOILER oooo la la shoot dragon in head in mars...uh yea.........hmmm) It could have beena more solid game but who knows? I too hope they continue and it will be in a league of it's own. FRom what I hear its much better tha lethal skies and as it seems a good 2nd place to ace combat. No doubt in my mind ace combat 5 will dominate this thing to the ground but I also feel that though it will be inferior, AFDS will still have a place in my gaming library. BTYW theres a konami plane in there that looks likea na advanced single seat tomcat. Think jherry mouse? Very nice!! I also got MX5000, F-15 hybrid with canards....very AWESOME!! Still need the tomcat lookalike though. huge ass airbrakes.
  2. Not rweally a ryumor it was a blurb from BBTS. Whom I trust a lot. They just said there would be more coming in and i wouldnt be surprised if it got another production run. they never said it was limited and its cheap to produce.
  3. or, man 12 inches is small for 150$!!!!!! BTW does it have working knees in robot mode? I cant tell but if it does its doing SOMETHING better than godaikin!! Honestly these things would fly off shelves if it was 50$ adn all of you KNOW this!
  4. I bought AFDS a few weeks ago since I had a surplus of money@ my disposal. SOme of you wonder what its like and a lot of you hear it either sucks or is alright. Here is my opinion on the game after going through it twice. Graphics-The graphics are good. Not as good as air force delta storm, and this one in comparison will lag for a few seconds if a bunch of planes are on screen. Not too bad however. Everything is about average, and what you would expect from PS2.... UNTIL You get to the sea missions. "aw man this plane modeling ain't that bad, it's decent...not as real lookibng as AC4 but it's got it's own spunk...wait...what the...WHAT THE F****?THE WATER LOOKS LIKE PS1 GRAPHICS!!" Yes the water looks like crap. seriously. Street fighter sprites from SNES got more realistic movement than the slow moving waves. OR should I say 3 frame stuttering waves. Breakdown. Planes and graphics in general GOOD. water? jesus christ..... Plane selection-GREAT. Instantly better than AC4's plane selection and very very good. Being able to use the F-105 thunderchief with Holst and upgrading to the F-15U plus is like witnessing the birth and transition of 2 great eras in time. And hell nothing beats using some of the century fighters and ESPECIALLY vietnam era fighters and realizing they still got good traits even amongst the techie generation planes. It also helps that most of konami's famed shooter aircraft from way back then like the vic viper are usable and unlockable. Weapon selection is good as well. Music/sounds- Sounds in this game are good. Chatter is OVERKILL in some areas. I wish Pierre would STFU. However its pleasant to shoot his ass down 1 second after boasting. Music seems to be the theme music remixed in every possible way, and while this is an okay theme, this REALLY needs to have VARIETY. BGM's from 80's shooters are put in as well when using the respective planes. HOwever the music is NOTHING compared to Ace Combat 2. This is not saying the music is bad but it really needs more flavor and diversity. AC4's music wasn't any better either but at least it had more different tunes. Gameplay-I like the phase turn thing and I do not mind having to rebuy a plane. However rebuying its color scheme and special weapon after getting it shot down SUCKS. What the hell? Being able to do branching missions is GREAT!! Standbuys were a good addition too. THe apce missions I actually like since it's different!! It's done good!! However,...goodness this game is DIFFICULT. This game will piss you off till no end most of the time but I find when in trouble or doubt, go to gamefaq's faq for this by flying eye. oh yea nd use the AIRBREAK!! THis game would have been a LOT more enjoyyable had the missions been better thoughtout and was EASIER!! A lot of people think this game was rushed. I am a firm believer in this. Flight Control- If you want Ace combat configuration use expert its almost the same. If you want OPTIMISED use ACE controls! WAY better since it gives you "controlled" throttle!!(throttle with increments, not HAVING TO HOLD R1 FOR AFTERBURNER!!! With this one once you get to afterburner the burner will stay lit unTIL you throttle down to idle. In ace combat you cannot do this!! Ace combat is=HOLD r1 to go faster HOLD L1 to go slower. AFDS=peress R1to required engine thrust and it will stay or L1. The flight modeling for this game by all means isnt hardcore simulator like Janes F-15 but is inbetween aerodancing/elite and AC4. NOWHERE near as arcadey as AC4!! HEll they even hgave an angle of attack meter!! and In AFDS you can do instantaneous pitch up and let go of stick wher ethe nose will drop a few degrees, in AC4 it merely just puills up. SO YES THIS is quite realistic in that respect and more akin to the older planes/high AOA's and AERo elite flight modeling. And attackers? UNLIKE Ac4 you can't realy turn a A-10 or A-6 in AC2 into a fighter here. put it this way it reflects reality. Try dogfighting in an A-7 and....well....GOOD LUCK. Oh and high speed groundf attack? If your using brian FORGET IT(unless you got his better planes). You need HOlst with his thundercheif. CObra kicks all kinds of ass and I realize what David was talking about when he brouight up the YF-17 CObra fighter. Oh and you cant pull a tight ass turn when your below 200 knts unlike AC4. And dodging missles is hard as balls too. I am VERY VERY satisfied with the flight modeling in this game. Not like AC4 but WAY better even if not as realistic as Aero elite. All in all -I really do enjoy this game. It is fun and the amount of planes to be earned and the semi dynamic storyline and multiple unlockable endings/missions/planes/ellen is good. Using planes with sometimes DRASTICALLY different flight modeling is a GREAT BREATH OF FRESH AIR......especially since AC4 makes you able to turn the A-10 into an asskicker of migs so easily....now YES in reality you could do this but AC4 makes it seem so easy...in reality its diffficult. I like how some planes are just not good on some missions where as AC4 makes every plane a "can do everything" type pf plane in each mission. For example don't use Jaime to dogfight unless you are extremely bored. Which BTW you are not FORCED to use jaime so if you don't want to, just forget him. The graphics are on their own level till you see the water, but while it has it's own spunk the graphics are not as realistic looking as AC4. The replays, though less options, are MUCH better than AC4!! Looks all artsy in some angles and exaggerated which is cool. F-14 has better sweepings wings here than in AC4. But yes this game is difficult as hell at times. AC4 is a more enjoyable experience overall. AFDS does feel very rushed and though it really doesnt seem like the masterpiece it was intended to be, it is a very good game nonetheless. Overall if it was easier and there wasnt so much dialogue between characters(most of the stoery sucks BTW other than getting to know some of your characters...its pretty useless dialogue for the most part). REplays are SUPERB!! So no this doesnt unseat AC4 from the throne. But its a good 2nd place. Far better than topgun on PS1. Think of AFDS as AC2 on PS2 with more planes and difficulty rasised up many notches with a lot of people blabbering about stupid shi*. So when AC5 comes out what will happen? I do think Ac5 will truly be th3e greatest arcade sim on PS2 but howevere AFDS will still be a good 3rd place by then. AFDS has a unique approach depending on how you look at it. Had it had take offs and landings and refuels and more special weapons it would be more on par but unfortunately it does not. my advice? Give it a chance. I would give it a 7.5/8 out of 10. I know most people don't like it but I do. BTW use ace configuration....if you use alex and his VTols in expert configuration you can only do VTOL mode when holding L1 for a while. In ace mode just press up on teh Dpad and he goes to VTOL automatically. And yes you can batturn with the tomcat. Cockipit displays are almost all unique per plane and accurate to reality in some cases(cockipit ) BUT some are placed too far down. FOr example its hard to aim gun in TOMCAT since....well flight reticle is facing cockpit rather than through HUD. you can see through HUD but for a gun kill to aim better you gotta position the VIew to look through it better. SOme of the incockpit views are too low.

  7. it has flown. just not much. It did taxi trials and it did actually fly. I am thinking its speed is higher than the Super flanker and its manuverability...perhaps. THey say the Mig I-2000 will have unparrareleled AOA and manuverability due to thrust vectoring and its perfect circle area along with wings for lift. This is supposed to take on JSF in export market and replace the Mig 29 in domestic and foreign markets. in other news sukhoi is set to build russia's next gen premier fighter aircraft to replace the flanker./ Mig 1/44 was supposed to be a concept fighter envisioned to take over the mig 31
  8. Hey guys for a touch of different flavor.....lets do a russian aircraft debate!!! 1-Mig 1.44/42 vs SU-37 The new breed of Mig takes on sukhoi's super flanker. Who would win in a dogfight and intercept and air superiority role? Which is the bestter fighter? 2-Mig-I-2000 vs S-54/55 battle of the lightweight multiroles. A single engine flanker derivative against the potential russian JSF killer. 3-Mig -31 vs F-14 Just for fun. F-14 could outturn the sucker but cant outspeed it. and YES I got these ideas from airforce delta strike which I have been playing.

Most of us were around still loving macross before macrossworld was made, and hell there are more members here now than the ones that ever left during the chunky monkey days of this board. Graham is right there is a very hardcore fanbase nad hell valk scramble only left because he was becoming a father, and remember his site? the onjly new thing it had was the 1/60 VF-1, that site was purely vintage yet it was maintained and fans all over still flocked to that site until he shut it down. So yea market is saturated but yamato is smart, they will get us when demand is high enough and the market aint flooded, i think bandai is the same way too only a lot more cautious, they wouldnt go resculpting and tooling old molds if they werent gonna us them, them be the breaks and expensive folks, so i think they are jsut biding their time for when the license isnt " hard "
  10. hey Bub, from what i read @greattoys.net(the site pare omni posts at a lot) in da homeland, someone from there was in manila or somewhere in the homeland at a toyconvention and asked a bandai rep what was up with the reissues and he commented"the license is hard right now for macross" and talked about how bandai was going to focus on easier licenses like gundam or something. So in terms of that i think he meant "ya yamato kicked our ass this time around, we'll focus on stuff we can totally own people in for now" so does this leave the window of oppuirtunity of a chunky monkey return further on later on? Once demand is high and saturation is gone i say yes!
  11. BTW dat, that CM should last your boy till college provided he takes care of it well. I got a 2nd or 3rd hand jetfire and its still up and kicking, I only hope within the next 5 yrs bandai reissues more stuff since they say "the license is hard right now". Bandai rules and yamato may be icing on cake but bandai freaking IS cake. This whole board started on the premise of macross and the 1/55 toys and even now we still love it. Man the staying power!
  12. uh dude its packed in combined mode.Says so on toynami site. So it basicalyl comes in one big box. I am not sure if you are familiar with the old school daigokin or the trendmasters retooled reissue a few years back.. Its like this. Even at 12 inches long, that equates to the liions not being too big on their own. You cant p[ossibly say the price is better than the robotech MPC, hell @50$ each for a lion i would say rip off. even right now 150 % 5=3-$ and thats STILL too much!! THe lions at most (black lion) would be 7 inches long. Arms 5 inches long. I highly doubt they will be really big. godaikin go lion was only an inch shorter than the toynami upcoming one and THAT in itself had small lions as well. The lions are a lot smaller than u think...in fact the toynami one(this is being generous here) the seperate components should be only a LITTLE bit bigger than power ranger zord components...that in itself is not big at all. PLus the sword will come with the set. These dont look like they are being sold seperately as the box design and such and the msrp was already set long ago.
  13. How many of you actually think paying 150$ for the MPC Voltron is actually worth it? I mean sujre its 12 inches, but thats only like 1-1/2inch taller than the trendmasters retooled daigokin reissue. We can almost say for certain that the MPC will have less diecast but I mean look at it, ok yea we get leg dweivel and ball joints on all the lions legs, but most of the toy is bland I fail to see why 150$ is a justified price for this where as the trendmasters reissue was only 30$ and hell the much taller one that could fit figures was @60$ then reduced down once the cg show came off air. PLus the daigokin is much more regal and detailed looking. more panel lines and crap. I mean yea its nice and all we get a new one by toynami that isnt robotech but man that price sucks. Would i get it if it was cheaper? perhaps but i can say for sure unlike thje alpha, not many people will be in a rush to get this.
  14. BOB that would all depend on what you major in to be honest. Me I myself am majoring in Communications ARts/DEsign(CARD)-illustration track(emphasis). So we are taught by industry professionals as well as artists and the like. Heck George Pratt is a professor here at VCU now as well in the same department. With communications arts IMHO it gets you ready for the job world of art(teacher tells us about deadlines and being on time and other stuff you gotta deal with as well as which agencies and groups to join...then again she was an art director as well) and we learn a lot about marketing ourselves and the like. Now if your a art major like a painter or sculptor.....then I think that is the realm you were talking about BoB. In my painting classes we never talked about the job market much or how to survive and last and how to start off. In my CA/illustration classes...we went the other direction and we learned how to draw and design every day and the job marketing portion of it as well. And a lot of famous artists do teach here in VCU. I can proudly say I think we got more in CA than we do in the PAPR(Painting And PRintmaking) department. Its kind of mindblowing realizing your hardcore teacher for 2 classes is actually someone you see all the time making mad money and showing up in magazxines in barnes n nobles. But yes there is sometimes a bit of rivalry within departments and of course the money route shows up as well and battles over whgat true art is and whatnot.
  15. BoB that last paragraph of yours was BRILLIANT!@ Though I do gotta disagree. I wouldn't say screw education it really depends where you go and how you take it. here @VCU I'm in love with the illustration program and trying to iron out all my flaws but at the same time we learn how to market ourselves in the business. It also helps that some of your teachers happen to be some of the famous dudes you see in communiocation arts magazine and numerous books all the time. Thats just my IMHO.

  18. well it was planned for 1/72 scale....I'm pretty sure small pieces and not much room to work with is the main problem. YOu guys have to remember IHP's conversion kit was NOT perfect variable, and I do assume that sakuragawa, under guidance from yamato, did intend to mmake the toy perfect variable....making a perfect variable toy based on a non perfect variable converison kit with small parts is NOT easy. Sizing up would solve a lot of problems but perhaps yamato wants this toy to fit in with previous macross plus releases.
  19. the koenig monster by size is a BIGGER toy than the YF-19FP. So assuming that I am SURE it was a LOT easier to design and work with since it's sheer size gives them room to do many things with it.

I agree COMPLETELY with these guys but I shall chime in my 2 pesos ok scenario shi*thot max jenius decides to dogfight in a modern day stealth fighter that is experimenting in variability. -holy crap missles coming what toi do what to do!! -uh GERWALK MODE yea.... ok the human body can withstand 9G's sustained........12 sustained could kill a person from what I have heard. Even with the seat reclined backwards 9-10 is preerred. Do you realize how much G force is working against those parts when merging into gerwalk>? 1-9 g turn 2-gerwalk mode, slam brakes at high speed, motion legs forward@high speed against high wind current.(NO DONT tell me someone would slow down THEN gerwalk...it dont work that way in macross does it? 1 sec transformations ar things of anime not reality. and plus do you know how long it takes a harrier to get to hover mode? A lot longer than everyhone thinks. VTOL isn't a fat procedure folks) THAT alone should rip the legs off. Hell I wouldn't be surprised if the plane outright stalled. So if turning into gerwalk itself is unrealistic I must concor that a fuill transformation would be even more pointless as well. See thats the great thing about anime. HAVING AN IMAGINATION FOR THINGS THAT WILL NEVER WORK IN REAL LIFE. simple physics and common sense.
  21. David, From what I hear the tomcats in AC5 are the following with the upgrade system F-14A>F-14B>F-14D I assume that is why you had the glove vanes employed, because it was an A although I do think I could be wrong if they did infact state the plane was a D.

  23. being an illustration major myself I think I can give some advice. 1-LOTS of life drawing. If your 25 now and havent been close to art school since 18, by all means man draw!!! Life drawing no photo. 2-bring a sketchbook everywhere you go. They tell us this so we draw a lot from what we obsserve and since the illustration business itself is very competitive. Hope this helps man.
  24. you can do thrust select in AFDS? Never noticed! IM on my 2nd run through. David is the demo worth spending up to 10$ on the mag? I migiht pick it up this week but I am not too sure. Also. To me aerodancing series from sega is the ONLY company to do the F-14's wing sweep modeling right. as in due to speed NOT throttle~~! In ace combat 4 if you thruttle up the wing sweeps back as soon as you press R1. In AFDS it has a little "give". In aerodancing it is almost perfect. How is the sweep mechanism in AC5 david? And also is there any similarities to AC4 or does it totally blow if out of the water. AND......is flight modeling Better than AFDS?(AFDS has AOA meters and has IMHO a vastly superior flight model over AC4)
  25. the iranian kill ratio varies but one of the IIAF sites I went to lists more than a 100 kills. The iraqi's in desert storm were scared of taking on the tomcats so I assume that the iranians shot down a lot of iraqi planes with the tomcat. Also the famous 10 mile phoenix kill where the mig split in 2 due to the sheer momentum and impact of the phoenix missle from just 10 miles away/.
