Well both fights as knife fight close in. ADV F.3 has automatic wingsweep though I presume nowhere near as good as tomcat. Why I chose the phantom match? In RAF service the F.3 replaced the phantom, and I often wondered why folks usually say the tornado is not a good dogfighter. I have no doubt the eurofighter can whup its ass but yea. Anyhoo how about the Eurofighter, does it have an internal gun still?

Hmm. THen I gues this means the SU-33 still got a chance against the F/A-18F. Not as good as SU-30MKI but still a threat. OK . MIg-29K vs F/A-18F. both carrier borne, and MIG-29 is light to midweight size class. and while we are at it. TOrnado F.3 ADV vs F-4E phantom II or F-4 Kurnass 2000(hammer) Both interceptors, both with guns. One designed later than other. WHo would win in knife fight?

eliminated design looks best. 611 is in AFDDS I believe. It's one of ruth's planes but looks kind of cheap. OK guys. Being that the kuznetsov or whichever carrier russia has has SU-33.... SU-33 vs F/A-18F Su-33=less capable than MKI but...perhaps better than SU-27? F/A-18F=drag hore but great striker, inefficient tomcat replacement for air superiority. Someone mentioned an all new plane meant for fleet defense or upgraded tomcats for fleet defense, I say all new plane in vein of stealth and tomcat capability.

That thing looks way too fan influenced. I mean I doubt the J-12 wopuld look anything like that. With that said I think its a great CG but a bit too farfetched, I agree a lot with knight. SOme of the chinese designs just SUCK IMHO. ok guys knife fight opinion time!!! it should stay with the phantom. I mean i lke the growler for the EA-18 but the shortnet should be called something like the mosquito or dragonfly. Better fitting name. or Hummingbird. All emphasize long parts, and the shornets got a long nose. so is FRAAm still in development? and how much bigger is it compared to AMRAAM? And would the navy even consider upping the engines to F136? and would that up fuel consumption?

Indeed, no arguing with that but if they are gouing to put the F-4/A-4 in AC2, and F-4 and F-5E in AC4, then the crusader needs it's due. I mean its vietnam era & yet the intruder and phantom and tiger are in AC5 evben though its in the future/.

guys what is the maximum operational range of the phoenix? Is it less than the novator? The novator is rather big and I believe only 3 can be carried on a flanker before taking on more drag and becoming cumbersome. And well..if the Su-33 cna Su-32IFN can carry teh novator......and if its longer range than phoenix.. YUP I was right super hornet just ain't cuttin' it as a tomcat successor! You can't possibly tell me the shornet will be able to lick off a AMRAAM shot before the novator nails it. And novators come in ASM version too.....so yea...GOOD luck to the super hornet driver. And then close in the SU fighters are deadly as is and well..... anyways on F-16.net there are heated debates about the shornet going against sukhois and doing carrier defense. One of the main arguments being "least the tomcat has speed to get the fight onto its own terms" which I believe. Most think the navyu DOES need the shornet as a long range attacker...but not to replace the tomcat in air superiority.

yea it always puzzled me why they put in F-5s an F-4s and MiG-21's yet neglect the sader. I mean, heck the crusader even has a GOOD upgrade for a game!!(supercrusader/gatorIII). As many bombs as an A-6? Really? I never knew that! Do you have any pics? I wonder if an F-8 airframe could be retrofitted with a GE F-129 thrust vectoring engine, canards, bubble canopy, and AMRAAM. I imagine it would look AWESOME. Sadly I have not seen any vought aircraft for AC5. MAn I wonder why AFDS DIDN'T have the crusader!!! All those planes(some which just suck) and no crusader E and III? oh well. Least namco put in the F-20. Vut it's no F-8!!

there's been a poll about this 2-3 times before dude. I made one and then knight26 or another 2seater aircraft fan made one. The most recent being only 2 months old I believe.

weird. I have the yellow 13 but no X-02 variant. very weird. EASA and FEAF are enemies I believe. I wish a company like dragon would make 1/72 AC5 warbirds. That would so rock.

HEck I ahven't even unlocked the black and white X-02...and far from affording it!!getting an S in whiskey corridor is DIFFICULT!! Specially since I was using the old planes just for fun. IF the YF-23 is one of the planes youi get towards the end and is a tremendous jump in capability like in AC2, then It will surely become a fan favorite. Even more so if it has a GUN!! (something AFDS SORELY lacked!) I keep wishing dragon will make one...but as you said they take REAL REAL LONG. (keeps hoping for VF-1 wolfpack F-14A high viz)

THose mightbe the novator A2A version I was asking about. Some sites say it outdistances the phoenix but I am biased so I doubt that. if so.....yea the shornet for fleet defense? yea it'll REALLY shine when defending the group against a fighter that can knock it out long before it can even get close to use its high alpha or AMRAAM. The novator is a huge missle. The SU-32IFN in AFDS has either that or the kitchen missle as a special weapon but both are HUGE. BTW this FRAAm that got brought up....is that a long range missle? Is there ANYTHING in US development that will replace phoenix>? now that we bring up canards. CAn you imagine an F-15K with GE-129 ATF engines?.....whoa.........and canards? ..........................

David, the gripen IS in the game. CAn't believe you missed that man!! Acecombat.jp has a mini gallery for it in teh information>world news section! HMmm....did canards improve the F-4 FBW CCV's performance dramatically? I just know it looked cool as hell, and in fact the japan FSX proposal originally had canards as well....canards on a falcon inspired airframe.....what a beast. coul canards shaped like those on euro fighters improve tomcats or perhaps crusaders? I imagine those woudl look cool and I always wondered why grumman never experimented with canards. BTW i know this is imaginiative but in air force delta storm on X-box they have a F/A-18S airacobra. A hornet with canards. Looks awesome!! in a sense my philosophy is a great fighter would be one with russian airframe design(not components) and US/western avionics. (Coincidentally this is what the SU-30MKI is!!)

Thanks man!! I too saw some of the earlier canarded JSF proposals, one of them close to the X-36 design. Even the viggen used canards but not like the gripen uses them. Knight ar the oldies against canards because of aesthetics? There was canards on a tomcat prototype but it was not as pronounces as say a viggen's. BTW anyone get a glimpse at sukhois new fighter to replace the flanker? They are developing it and everyone says it is NOT the berkut!(Which does not surprise me in the least but I have a feeling it will look dead sexy)

Hmm...the XFA-27 in AC2 has swing wings, canards and a bunch of stabs angled. Would that plane work in real life? AND a question I have wondered since 8th grade, do swing wing canards do anything to supplement swing wingS? *edit I did a digisketch earlier(real quick) of a skystriker which is based on the Tomcat....so since the phoenix was retired an such....I thought you all might like seeing this being that the tomcat is retiring soon* and an X-30 Conquest refueling mid air (quick digipainting) Gijoe planes rule!!

And with Shornets...slow as they are...only with AMRAAMs and potentially outclasses in knife fighting as well.....I just don't know anymore.
