Whoa.....I wouldnt mind owning an F-8UP!!!!! Sometimes I wish I could fly for my homeland and rid it of corruption and be a mercenary like Shin in Area 88. Hmmm. Many pilots say the phantom was "trucky" in comparison to the super crrusader..knowing this I guess it implies that the super crusader was a good turner and with an already fast engine, and a proposed ROCKET powered engine I have no doubt this thing could annhilate the phantom in the vertical and turning planes. Phantom's advantage over the F-8 was speed but the F-8UIII achieved a higher rate of speed during tests than the phantom and hell the rocket would boosted that sucker off the ground and in the air in no time. Kind of sucks you know? Every other naval fighter gets screwed over. CRusader was nice, super wa awesome, phantom picked over those, and wasnt made to dogfight which was what vietnam was about since sparrows never workwed and pilots thought dogfighting was over. Tomcat was awesome, power and energy and long range and a BIG plane suitable for multirole, super tomcat 21 gets canned. Super hornet....well you know my reasons. In theory I tend to think every other naval fighter in succession gets screwed over one way or another. Which leads credence in the notion that I think the fighter that replaces the hornet will have the long range loiter and attack capability of the tomcat, better manueverability and less drag than the hornet,faster startup time, supercruising and thrust vectoring. Hey history DOES repeat itself!!

What sucks is that the F-14B cant be armed with other special weapons. Oh well. Nice seeing the BOMBCAT in a game!!! BTW this game blows the shi* out of AFDS. I think in comparison AFDS was RUSHED IMMENSELY and Namco took their time with AC5. I remember a year ago we would be talking about ace combat 4 and 2 here, and slightly under our noses, Ace combat 5 was announced!!! I think I dreamt of it after I fell asleep after playing it. I mean EVERYTHIN in thsi game is better. From wing sweep to even the graphics...I was surprised. Replay mode in pass view is AWESOME. And geez this thing is MUCH harder than AC4 and I am on normal mode. Hell I might go on to say that AC4's ACE mode isnt as hard as AC5's normal mode. and the storyline along with the music is very good..........there are onjly a few things I would add to this if they make a part 6. 1-More than 1 special weapon equipabl per plane(Like AC4). 2-2 player mode 3-Online 4-More AC2 influenced music 5-Ability to play any stage in arcade mode or save progress 6-MORE WILD WEASEL OR ECM AIRCRAFT 7-More vintage planes like the Super Etendard and Super Crusader III/F-8 8-XFA-27/XFA-36 Game 9-A-6B Ironhand 10-Super Tomcat 21 11-YF-17 Cobra 12-F-111 series planes 13-Open ended missions( for example.....if you wanted to be a bomber your wingmen could take care of all air to air engagements)

So being that ECCMP is limited to 5......you basically press the launch button and it jams all enemy radar for a few seconds? Hmm.....this should be a permananet jammer like on the whole time till your plane gets shot down. doesnt make sense to do it in bursts. BTW did anyone notice that the wild weasel F-4G and teh A-6E both have gunpods? In reality niether had internal guns, so i thought external semislow firing cannonpods was a NICE touch. At first i was ljke "oh man wtf they added a gun to the A-6 just like in AC2...." then i was like..wait its on pods!!! and the F-4G has a ECm bump on its fin too. THey really paid close attention to detail in this sucker. BTW story is AWESOME and music is beter than 4.

Mike, I chose the tornado mainly because I love the plane lol. I was doing high speed ground attack with the BDSP and I wanted to upgrade it as soon as possible. If I have a hard time I might try the hornet like you said. BTW what the heck does ECCMP do? and the guide, though it sucked like hell, did show that the F-22's numerical statistics are higher than teh YF-23s. So in reality while we all know the YF-23 outdid the raptor in many many things, in AC5 it sadly does not. Playing the F-22 gets boring though.

I think aside from teh cutlass, all of vought's planes have hauled ass. I mean their super crusader falls into the same category as the F-20, YF-23, F-14D/ST21,F-15S/TMD and other planes which never saw the light of day as mass produced fighters.

oh god....I knew it...someone from konami is sabotaging namco's ace combat series!! LOL. I JUST finished mission 12B after like 20 times. I did what duke and mike mentioned, but I did some experiments. Here are my conclusions to beat this mission 1-TARGET radar 1ST. Then target control center 2-when nagase starts counting@ 5, FIRE 3-Go to the transport planes, eliminate any on ground and taking off. 4-when destroying the shelters, dive from above @ a 90 dgree angle. Suicidal yes but just go slow. BTW F/A-18C or anything with LASM is GREAT for this mission. submarine attack afterwards...my ass died after not climbing high enough after teh burst missle shows up. plane of choice? TORnado GR1(IDS?) god this plane is AWESOME with BDS...and and...anbd THE WING SWEEP HOLY CHRIST THEY FIXED IT!!! and the tomcat too!!! No more sweep back all the way under 300 kts!!

Aw man. That site does not have many pics on this either. Anyone know what happened to this? LIke was it scrapped and sent to the boneyard or melted into reusable metals for other planes? Such a sad thing to happen. A truly beautiful plane. I wonder how well it could have done in vietnam.

what th hell? UGh did one of AFDS's designers go on Ace combat 5? this mission SUCKS. You mena to tell me ALL 4 radars need to be hit by YOU, Blaze within nagase's countdown? UGHHHHHHH what the hell!!!!!

The missles on the tigershark are sparrows but I think they work as AMRAAMs. You can't buy special weapons, each plane is already equipped with one, and you cannot buy additional(a MAJOR peeve....ideally the F-14A should be able to carry phoenix in the game but its limited to sparrow, adn teh D should be able to carry everything the A/B do). The mission intro music is DEFINITELY AC2 inspired. Arcade mode pisses me off because you cant save missions, only fligth time and you can only use the F-22. While it is fun....come on....need variety here!! Im stuck on the simultaneous radar destruction stage. Dont know what the hell to do.

Hellohikaru, where did you find the super sader pics? Gunfighter.net doesnt have many!!! Man the best views I had of the super sader was on that wings episode about the crusader. That episode ROCKED. God I love this plane. One of my plane designs for a comic I am working on is actually influenced a whole lot by the crusader and super sader. People may think its ugly but I think it is sexy as hell. I mean look at it. Angles everywhere, sharp nose. Drool. I wonder if it could outturn a regular crusader..its certainly got enough thrust too....

Mike I am on mission 4 or 6...whichever one comes after the ABL gets to teh arkbird. Anyways I unlocked the F-20 by the 3rd mission. What I did was kept getting my wingmen to do things while I got priority prey. I guess their kills supplement unlockability of new planes. I am nowhere near mission 10, right now I am defending the carrier fleet and hunting for some sub while the ABL snipes some of the sub's burst missles. Planes I have unlocked so far are F-20, F-4E, F-4G, Mig-21BIs, F-16C, F/A-18C, A-6E. My fhangar currently is 1 A-6, 1 F-4E, 1 F-4G, 1 F-20, 4 F-5E BTW music is AWESOMe and arcade mode is a bunch of rock trakc.s

So I take it wing sweep is more like AC5 demo than AC4? Because AC4 wing sweep for the big cat SUCKED big time. Same with tornado. So are both planes having more accurate win sweep this time around? AC4's winfg sweep suystem was absurd!!

How about the light controls and wing sweep on tomcat tornado?(refer to my above comments)

I disagree guys, I think the super gator is BEAUTIFUL. I mean look at it. It screams "ASSKICKER" to me. I just tend to think the phantom was picked mainly due to 2 engines and 2 crew. Howeber I also think politics played a role ,much like the YF-23 and F-14 getting shafted in favor of the F-22 and the Super bug.

DAmn it gamespot near campus was crowded and had way too many peolpe working crowding the counter. New manager seemed cool though., UNFORTUNATELY they only had the flightstick bundle left. UGH. MAn I so would have bought the game only. sheesh. hopefully tomorrow they get it. Guys is replay system better than AC4? Ac44's replay was awesome for its time but kind of bored me near the end. And david, is F-14 wing sweep more like the AC5 demo instead of AC4? I didnt like how in AC4, above 300kt the wings would automatically sweep all the way back. In the 5 demo you gotta be past 600...which i like. SAdly I had a nightmare it reverted back to AC4 wing sweep LOL> replays.... AFDS vs AC5 which has more entertaining replays?

their Crusader III kit is BEAUTIFUL. SOme people say the plane itself is ugly but I think its a better lookin titmachine than the regular crusader. Awesomeness. So guys any takers? F-8 Crusader III(supergator) vs F-4S phantom II knife fight

to larify... F-8 Crusader III vs F-4S phantom II knife fight. The F-8 had provision for 4 guns and sparrow/winder armnament. And if it could go mach 3 I have a feel;ing it might be able to take the fight vertical as well. I often wonder how the supersader did in a turn fight and test pilots say the phantom is trucky in comparison @ the gunfighters page/.

And against the original crusader.

Skull leader you havent unlocked ACE mode? That mode is most difficult in game(1 missle kill, flak for near a minute will drive power strength down to 85%). Using an A-10 in whiskey corridor is UBER hard. That and the mission to me is very boring. Maybe because it is a desert. I did not like tango line either. I dunno....the one where you blow up those huge guns was cool though.

Predaking is a standalone special release outside the mainline numbered reissues.

Hey david do what I do (Shin who has no idea when he is getting this game unless his lil bro decides to buy it for him this week or he sells off some books) -Play AFDS and use the older planes like the phantom(practice LOL.) -Browse through ACIG.org -PLay AC4, on ace mode, hardest missions, using older planes and practicing tactics fitting for plane in dogfighting(F-4 zoom climb/energy fight). Shattered skies using the F-4 in an energy fight takes a while to beat. But I am sure you have done the latter for some reason BTW strategy guide SUCKS. Reading that guide will not do anything to stimulate you. I read guides for entertainment and I would expect it would be veryh graphic laden and such but it is not. (man what happened to gamefan's guides?) So freaking bland and hell the AC4 guide was much better. More pics and stuff. Actually both suck compared to Gamefan's AC2 guide from back in 97. NOw THAT is how an ace combat guide should be!! Extra pics and great airplane profiles.

lol. Well warmaker I gues he will be happy when he finds out its a lot less work to keep it up and flying compared to the prowler. The prowler is just badass though...maybe its my fascination with A-6B's ever since flight of the intruder, nmaybe because its a wild weasel type intruder with 4 crew members...either way it just looks cool and unique and i love what it does. hmmm hellohikaru now that you bring up the hawk.... A-4AR skyhawk(argentina?) vs Hawk 200 AR has hornet engine. ANd same radar as hawk i believe.
