  1. True which is why I think the next naval fighter will kick mucho ass over anything else in existence. Its been done before and it can happen again. BTW ASF-14 could NEVER be made from an existing tomcat, so provided grumman still has the blueprints, perhaps they can still make it if the need arises. Hell the tooling destroyed was all for the old cat. ASF-14 was totally new altogethere. And heck I think the only thing it shares is aesthetic similarities. More so a new plane than the super bug to the legacy.
  2. Well see that was the point I was trying to make. It's more so an interim replacement because it was the only option they had left. I always thought the raptor would eventually be multirole. I mean the F-15 was originally a2a only but even the C's got some bombs on them every now and then. (more so in israel than over here).
  3. Ideally, any plane that replaces a older type SHOULD outperform it in EVERY major area. That is what SUCCESSION is about. You don't replace an F-4 with an F-86. And you can't replace a A-7 with a A-1. The phantom to tomcat transition wasn't barked at much since the tomcat was a better plane in every way. more manueverable, GUN, similar if not faster speed(max speed still classified), bubble canopy, more range, phoenix, swing wing, better radar etc. The super bug is not the "definitve" tomcat replacement. doen't outdo the tomcat except in the less maintenance hour thing. David brings up a good point about the max out AMRAAM tests on the F-22. The super bug was supposedly cheaper, but sometimes I wonder does the majority buy into what the navy and hornet mafia says about teh super bug? I mean its like everytime we post something buy pilots quoted in world air power or the smithsonian magazine criticizing the super bug in comparison to the tomcat and the legacy bug, we get more members coming back quoting super bug suppporters in the navy talking about how good it is and how ideal it is. Lets face it. EVERY OTHER navy fighter one way or another has inferiorities in comparison to the fighter it is replacing. The phantom lacked the manuverability of the crusader and the gun. The phantom was suppposed to eliminate the need to dogfight but as you all now this went horribly wrong. The hornet lacks the range and punch as well as speed and weapon carry distance of the tomcat. I have said this before and I wil say it again. The NEXT fighter that replaces the super bug will more than likely be the greatest naval fighter ever created. That outodes the tomcat and super bug. Don't get me wrong, I know the tomcat is getting old. And if a new fighter with BETTER capabilities altogethere(not some better tons worse) was replacing it I seriously wouldn't be debating this, but as it stands the super bug is just a compromise replacement. I've heard a bunch of navy guys say the same. One of the navy guys over at arc also said that the future of long range intercept will be handled with the airforce. A similar thing happened back when the navy was fighting to have a carrier and the whole egg in basket theory. And we still have carriers. Wanna bet the next navy fighter is a kick ass interceptor too?
  4. Beacuse a LOT of the companies you just listed DIDN'T give hasbro and takara the licences. VW specifically said they did not want to be involved with war related products due to their WWII ties in the past. But hasbro is still fighting for the beetle license. Of course to make an alternator bumblebnee
  5. We could say the same for him. And hey he started rebuffing our comments and reposting/contradicting what we said first anyways. I don't think banky over there can post here, he may have been banned last time. I am not sure but it wouldn't be the first time.
  6. Thats because its a picture of a toy car, not an alternator. SOmetimes hasbro and takara will use placeholder images, but people think this thing is just a joke since official pics always hav pics of the real car not the toys. We shall see though.
  7. Knight, Over at the NEX, (seems they were exclusives last year) all they had was the mud hen. No F-15D, A-10 or the 1/100 BUFF. This pissed me off since I wanted a nice lil USAF collection. To my knowledge, the others may have never been made. They were on the website but the one that was most prominent was the mud hen. perhaps it was a matter of not finding a buyer or geting enough orders. to me this line had potential and could fill in the gap that ERTl's force one series left behind. And for 5$, man I was so ready to have a hunter killer escort fight team for 15$. Ugh. The hog is awesome, noone does it any justice or they try and can it. I mean skunkwork's A-10 sim got canned9(VERY VERY STUPID REASONS BEHIND THIS), the XD 1/18 got cancelled, and the last rattler in gijoe was modded without the gunner canopy. Ugh. However I do have the 1998 joe reissue rattler in joe colors labeled as an A-10/ Pretty nifty and had a realistic Ace figure. always cool and its even got a BUBBLE canopy! Alwyas nice as well.I have always thought that toy was one of the greatest ever made in gijoe if not ingeniuitive. Anyone know of any good jet toy sites ? I am trying to track down info on this line of tiger striped F-14s in various colors and sizes. There was a small size that made light and noise and a bigger scale that did the same only with joysticks. I th8ink they were called skydogs
  8. Hmm never klnew that AMMRAAMS could not be mounted on bugs. is there a specific reason why? I thought AMRAAMS were always compatible with sidewinder paletters? I know the falcon carries it on wingtip but I wonder if the eagle can carry them on the swinder palette too. What I like about dragon is that they have weapon sets and pilots. But I hear you have to cut the pilot to fit. CORgi seems to be the most expensive but they do some vietnam era craft which is alwyas good. I always wonder why dragon doesn't make some kickass stuff like crusaders and skyhawks.
  9. a7, over@tfw, where i'm a member@, theres speculation about that going on. 1-a listing for an acura alternator was in walmart computers a few months back 2-i forgot what else but the general consensus is that it might be a fake. The # is the same as the # on the walmart listing from way back, but so far noone knows if this is bogus. Some of the mods there think it is and I am skeptical myself. One of the valid reasons that one of the mods gave was that the pic is of a toy car rather than a real one, in china where they had ;listings and pics at a toy show all the photos were of real cars. So who knows. I think it is false though.
  10. LOL great point noyhauser. I think day by day he will waste time quoting us time after time. Why tomorrow I would be surprised if he DIDN'T!! But either he will or he won't. certainly what we say AFFECTS him. LOL. Then again that is stating the obvious. I'm surprised he hasn't come by and tried to rip everyone a new one about the Alpha MPC like he did with the first MPC's.. Oh and haro he is watching us. He reposts a lot of what we say and rebuffles it on his blog.
  11. Are the gear on the Corgi's removable? the only turn off for me is price. I'd lke to get some 1/72 diecasts and the hornets and falcons from dragon seem nice. David what are your gripes with the legacy bugs? One of mine is that NO 2 seaters are out at all from dragon cept for the mud hen. And without bomb storage engine nacelle provisions, it shouldnt even be a mud hen., Hell its not worthy to be called an eagle if you can't mount ANYTHING on the nacelles. Plain stupid to me, but nontheless if I see the "AAFES" exlcusive ones I might pick one up for the novelty at the BX my lil bro always likes going to. Anyone have the feeling the superbug will be "undeerstored" as well? David any pics of your collection? Unfortunately the only phantoms I would want would be the navy ones. Maybe a USAF one in SE asia camo. BTW if you guys got 5$ to spare you should get the jetforce crewtech F-15. It was 5$, partially metal, very kidlike ...well more like teenlike in a sense that it has exposed screws and HINGES, and is defintiely toylike, but for a 20 yr old like me it was definitely worth it. I mean a diecast F-15E 1/72 for FIVE DOLLARS? Not to mention it has REMOVABLE ENGINE STORES!! 12 mk82's, a big ass bomb under each wing, and 2 sidewinders as well as a centreline droptank and all of this can be removed. the engine caps open and it has a fake radear thing and opening canopy with crew. Very nice for the price but dont expect anything up to corgi level. With that and mind im a sucker for retractable gear hence my wants for the FOV aircraft. Are the removable gears on the dragon and corgi'sfragile?
  12. bankofkev was a guy who went out of his way to say the MPC was the best VF-1 toy ever created by man and would never say anything else was better. He would also say it was more playable than the 1/48(very debatable and you guys know my stance on this) and how while the MPC stays up, he "once saw a bandai fall over". And how the MPC was more canon to the cartoon thqan the 1/48 was and how it was obvious the 1/48 was a prebuilt model kit, and flamed others for disagreeing. When the 1/48 first came out this whole flame war started all due to him at one point. I kid u not. All this stuff happened.
  13. I did actually. Not that many pics and reviews. Its either airliners or corgi mostly props. The upcoming super bug VFA-2 CAG bird is awesome. Definite must buy if and WHEN it comes out.
  14. GUys. Anyone know of sites with dragon warbirds 1/72 reviews? i am looking into buying some of the teen fighters. Can the AMRAAMs from the weapon sets be placed on the engine ports of the F-15C/D? I know no stores on the dragon mud hen can take armnaments, which is a major and very valid complaint. I am looking into getting an F-15C, a well armed falcon, and a high viz legacy hornet. Any sites with very detailed reviews and pics? Help would be appreciated. And if any of you feel like posting a review, post it here and hopefully with pics too!!! BTW I am actually thinking about buying the FOV F-14. Ugly panel lines, but t's the only 1/72 with retractable gear out there for an F-14, so it will do. PLus dragon is taking way too long.
  15. Sweet!! So thats the kill I keep hearing about. I was already aware of the skyraider kill, and man I love that plane. Not just because of the flight of the intruder movie. I saw a special on discovery on it and it rocked. Awesome. Maybe it is my fascination with SAR. Ewilen can you post the pics in this thread? So we can al see it in one place? And taking it back old scool, anyone know of the japanese shinden? it looks awesome and very promising. As well as being in tons of japanese media and video games.
  16. Viggens rule. For an obscure match, A-4 vs MIG-17. It was simulated as a fresco in topgun for a while while the tiger was a simuilated 21. but hw woul a MIG-17 fair against an A-4? i remember reading about a shootdown where tyeh A-4 shot down the fresco with some rockets. YF-17 vs F-20 2 of northrop's beautiful canned airplanes. Also one of the YF-17 Cobra protos was at an airshow early this year and it was f****n beautiful. Anyone else here think northrop grumman should take those 2 suckers and mod them for an export fighter contract? I imagine it would be up there with the likes of the rafale and gripen. Possibly still cheaper than block 60 F-16's.
  17. Guys I just e-mailed Torsten Aft in an effort to get ASF-14 pics. Hopefully he responds with some!! And to add fuel to the fire, WOW, tons of people argue about the super bug vs the tomcat. Awesome to read. Anyone here a viggen fan? AJ-37 vs Sepecat Jaguar which is better striker/self defense?
  18. hmmm sweet. So the later mudhens can smoke the regular eagle in a2a. but are mudhens ever used in full a2a? I know they are capable of doing so just wondering if they ever are. I believe either the F-15I or F-15K might be the best a2a eagle.
  19. I think a 2 seatF/A-22 would be the most likely outcome in this endeavor. Out of the 3 it is the cheapest and the raptor is just becoming operational in combay units. It would also look incredibly cool like most 2 seater planes. Is RFB supposed to be a strike eagle replacement?
  20. The bandai 1J u have MIB. AWESOME, stands test of time, articulated for a 20 yr old "brick" and a CLASSIC. Hell in my eyes the 1/48 still lacks in comparison in a few areas. Give em the bandai!!
  21. Febuary? Oh man must have been so long, I always thouht it was in december!! Noel, can you bug yamato and ask them about perfect variable macross zero toys? I think all of us would want these and it doesn't make sense that yamato doesn't make them.
  22. Hmm I agree with that as well. Not to mention I doubt they would change the YF-23 much, I imagine a 2nd seat, and new radar aside from a minimal weapon bay change. Otherwise, I mean it's already stealthy and fast. BTW guys I am thinking about doing a photoshop digital paint sketch for the ASF-14 and YF-23. As soon as I get my design work out of the way. (most likely by tomorrow). And hell since this is the big aircraft thread, I mineswell put my airplane drawings here anyways. 1 question. Does the air force like tandem seating? Reason being is that since the F-111, there have never been any side by side fighters in the air force. Aside from the raven. I prefer tandem but side by side works on planes like the aardvark and A-6.
  23. YES. I will have it either tonight or tomorrow. I've got 2 more finals and a painting due within these 3 days.
  24. It sounds too good to be true. Although I do hope it is confirmed that the YF-23 was indeed truly refurbished for RFB proposal. Slim a chance it may be, but anything to see that thing flying again would be worth it. Wouldn't the FB-22 and F-22 not be that compatible anyways in terms of parts use? I mean it seems a lot different than the F-111A and F-111B issue where most of the airframe was compatible and interchangeable. Plus the FB-22 doesn't even have a flying airframe done yet, as it is it is still a paper airplane whereas the YF-23 could be put into flight status within weeks or months. I guess we will see but I kind of agree that a FB-22 is more likely.
  25. The F-104's definitely got the speed and altitude advantage, I think that is why hikaru thinks it could take on the phantom. From a site I read the altitude max was 90,000 ft.
