Yea the JSF is far along in terms of design and testing and such. Guys, I mounted the fuel tanks from my dragon 57th TFS F-16C onto my Dragon 1stTFW F-15C. It looks pretty cool. Anyhoo i was wondering, is this possible to do on the actual planes? Also, are bombs mountable on the wing pylons of the dragon F-15E? That is my fav eagle, and the bombLESS CFT's are incredibly dissapointing, but if I can get some GBU's on the wing pylon, I might be happy. Also, how are the Corgi swap gear tornado's, phantoms, and harriers? I am interested in those. Though I keep hearing on other boards that dragon is the best, but right now they either focus on WWII birds, teen fighters and beyond, hopefully they give the phantom and crusader some love, until then the corgi's could keep me occupied. -

Dude I definitely agree. I mean one of my friends was complainig about CG in star wars sucking and the original models and stuff being tons better. I think the CG lacks the liveliness of the originals, but that isnt to say the CG sucks, IMHO it does a good job and I know where he is coming from. As an illustrator I cringe at how a lot of people learn digital painting without learning it by hand first. Disgusting. Same with animators who cannot animate by hand. THe old thunderbirds, had a magical aura to it. The new one lacked that. That toy looks pretty cool though~!! I am glad you are able to relive your childhood. Hopefully your child wil one day grow to apreciate the many advancements made before the dawn of the personal computer. -

thats all treanscorcher, which you can now get@KB toys for 9.99!! I got one this weekend, had no idea you could do that!!! I also noticed that the instructions lack the build up for the hovercraft. Oh well. I have mine in ATV mode, with the punk in secret agent deco. It looks sweet. Too bad this line is basically dead now, it was really really getting to its full potential. -
the MPC toys also have tailhooks. This is not mentioned in the manual, but they are there, thin strips of styrene they are

Okay. Watched more of the first episode. SHin KICKS ass in the sader. Truly doin the old hotrod some justice. His brake and accelerate manuever to trick the overspeeding mig was pretty cool, tons better and more realistic looking than what Maverick did in Top gun. Mick Simon is a ton more bad ass than I thought. I like how he beat the shi* out of the photographer. That dude ends up helping find the mystery sniper though, so I guess he has purpose later on. Seeing skyhawks, drakens and phantoms kick ass. I love vietnam era planes. The dogfights are pretty intense, this is definitely good stuff. I imagine the OVA is tons better and hopefully I can track down old copies at the exchange. Yamato or dragon should make some diecast 1/72 Area88 models. I am itching for Simon's tomcat and Shin's sader. [i love the shark mouth intake. I was impressed by the gunnery sight in the F-8. Had no idea it could actually have a moving pipper, was this on the old one? I always thought it was stationary. Pretty cool though! Overall I like it even more. I even llike the music, somewhat fitting. I can't wait to watch more. I think I shall begin a quest on getting as much Area88 material as possible. The YF-23 was a selectable aircraft in the old SNES game(Un squadron in US). was it in the manga or old OVA at all? And btw, does anyone know if the YF-23 is bigger than the Fi15?Because my supposedly 1/72 diecast plastic 5$ YF-23 from Kb toys outlet, is only a little bit bigger than my dragon 1/72 F-16C, and definitely smaller than my recently purchased langley F-15C. Either way for 5$, I cannot really complain, it is a ton sleeker and more fine detailed than the other sky pilot previous releases by new ray? If you guys remember, this company makes supposed 1/72 diecast plastic planes, and they usually lack molded or attachable weapons. Their F-14 is notorious for having nice paint schemes, but a asymetrical wing sweep( I opened one up its a design and molding flaw that is to me irrepairable), and of course, only having have a cockpit., The new 2005 tomcats by new ray?( think that is the name) feature a retooled cockpit with 2 seats and a canopy long enough to be more accurate. Now the wing sweep I have no clue if it is fixed., I really hope so. The colors so far are the IRIAF offshoot tomcat, and NSAWC tomcat. Both F-14A's. The awesome thing about the previous releases was that there was a dark grey, high viz livery sundowners tomcat. Dark grey and red are very cool looking together. They also have some F-4's, a MIG-29, some F-16s/18s and F-15B's. I have the bicentenial 1975 F-15, and they just recently came out with the YF-23, YF22A, Blackbird(incorrect cockpit, you guys would cringe trust me, ERTL's was TON more accurate), and a small B-2. The F/A-18s look like the diecast testors F/A-18. The 1975 F-4 looks awesome, I should have picked that up. So, for 5$, you really can't go wrong., Kb is mostly a discount place noww, in KB outlet, I know these were buy 2 get 3rd free, not sure if this applies to the regular stores too. In the regular stores last month I would see some these sky pilot toys paired with an electronic joystick. To me I could careless I just want the planes! So these might be at the regular KB stores in single or double packs. The old packaging was blue clouds with black and the new one is an orangy yellowish color. Tey have retractable landing gear, so these are nothing like diecast metal dragons or Corgi's, you essentially get what you pay for, which is 5$. So as long as you can look past that, these are really decent toys you can mess around with or display on their stands. I tend to think they are not really 1/72, more like 1/80 scale. -

ITs more of preference for me, I mean a tomcat has autosweep, but due to this being a TV series, I assume the animators had no time to do sweeps, though they really should have. I also notice Shin has an F-5E rather than an F-20. For what its worth I think the new seires is a good anime I only saw a clip o the old. But I really want to see it. and I have read a decent amount of the manga. I also went with my parents to a BX today, and I got the Dragon 1/72 F-15C. It is AWESOME. So much heft. Parts fit is MUCH better than my F-16C(secure canopy/airbreaks). Finish is nice, and overall I am very happy with it. I also went to a KB toys outlet, and scored myself a plastic YF-23 1/72 scale. Retractable gear, definitely toyetic but for what its worth its not that bad, good quality, and good detail for 5$. For that price you really can't go wrong, and plus I mean hey I can zoom this thing around the apartment without worrying about breaking or having to recement stuff. Plus has a nice lil stand too. -

ITs a bit of fan service bu the story was uninteresting in comparison to area 88. IT centers around someone being the red devil, some sort of ace that hunts down other pilots. And this red devil is supposed to be some sort of genius in the air. Not too impressed, its too cliche. The aircraft however are drawn well. Area88, the manga had a very unique style. I love Shintani's work, his love of airplanes definitely comes out in his work. I just saw some episodes of the new area88. I was IMPRESSED! I like the music, the dogfighting is AWESOME(I honestly did not expect much), and the CRUSADER was truly impressive!! It was so awesome seeing one of the oldies given their due FINALLY in an anime. Didn't expect Shin to get shot down so soon, so its good that he isnt the uberpowerful superman of this series. Simon is badass. My main gripes are that the F-14 is almost always shown in full forward sweep(from what I saw) and the cockpits are all opaque. I question the HUDs being on some older jets but someone said the old dude basically hooks everyone up. Seeing Mick use the tomcat in dumb bomb bombcat configuration was AWESOME! Anyone notice he's got similar color pallette with roy focker? Interesting. -

The piece is something to watch out for, from what I have read. Toynami might know this, so just go and try to contact them anyways. In terms of fixing it, maybe an epoxy can help. Not sure though. -

Yea air force planes have arrestor hoooks for emergency short distance landings on runways. Not carrier compatible though. Did shintani do work at all on the new area88?I keep hearing bad things about it. The original is looked upon with a lot of admiration. I like the manga. The only person to even come close to Shintani in terms of making a good jet fighter pilot manga is the guy who did red devil; but even then it was mainly because the way he draws MIGs, and fighters in general is SUPERB! The story is a bit weird though. I prefer Area88's story much more. -

THe giant F-5 clone seems a bit dumb. They should just focus on that new proto you posted last. Hey guys that reminds me. Can anyone post some good pics of MIck's F-14 from area 88 here?Screen grabs or vidcaps. I have been unfortunate enought o not even catch a glimpse of my fav plane in that anime. -

WInders on the wings? Meh is that even possible for the sader? Another thing about the IRIAF tomcat crews is that, a TON of the IRIAF's best pilots were executed after the ayatollah took over. So we know the IRIAF that fought Iraq, and could face the US today is nowhere near what it was back when the Shah was still in power. Though I do think IRIAF could be a much tougher threat than Iraq, i still don't think its going to be up to Northvietnam era or North korea DPRK air force level threat ya know? Also anyone got pictures of the 2sader? 2 seaters rule. I remember seeing this before. It is nice though only one was built and crashed in my homeland. -
me 2. But if the scale is 1/60, I hope they do use SWAPPABLE gear. Man all of the sculpt problems with the original macross plus toy trrio could have been fixexd, and had better sculpts had the landing gear been plug and play.

Double edge sword there Graham the Liquid Stone is 10 in the world, if it was 10, 000 pcs in the world, it definitely cannot fetch US$1000. and it is only a few handful of people who are willing to break the bank for it. not the masses still. I defintely know where you are getting at, but the saga of the Liquid Stone really does not give a realistic and accurate reflection of the market , my friend Noel Worse yet. Imagine Grahams words came true and Yamato DID a YF-19FP , but now they wouldn´t just price it normallly as they would but now since they´ve seen people are stupid enough to pay $1000 for a 90g piece of plastic ( ok its a yf-19 and transforms but C´mon!) they would prob. price it higher than a 1/48 Naw that would be stupid on their part. Something that small,? Naw, bad marketing position to price something that small, mass produce it @150$+. UNLESS it was itself a 1/48 scale. Yamato already saturated the market and killed off bandai's valk competition, I don't know why they would risk losing more profit by overcharging on a small YF19. I feel that they would price accordingly and it would be similar in price to the original YF190 toy, 6800 yen. And, you can't call the bidders who won idiots, hell graham got outbid twice and he just really wants a YF19 real bad. And graham is not an idiot.

No it does not come with the heat shield. When bandai bought the molds after takatoku's bankruptcy, they made heat shields for the DYRL valks. Correct,lt has the same limitations of the Jetfire toy from transformers and DYRL 1/55s. THe takatoku super valkyrie is bone white(yellowish off white), with an amber canopy. The andai 1990 reissue, has a clear canopy, and pure white finish. The 1990 also has less diecast, and no black plastic near the knees. Takatoku can swing wings forward, the bandai 1990 and DYRL toys cannot. Yes it can. Takatoku super armor can fit everything EXCEPT the bandai 2001-2002 re-issues. -
Interesting. More impressive proportion of sales than I would have thought but a lot of posters on here seem to have the attitude that it's a much greater proportion attributed only to MacrossWorlders and/or foreign (non-Japanese) fans. This I agree with!

I think they are just being smart. IN the beginning I thought they were just being really big headed after making mucho dinero milking macross and decided to ignore us. But that is not the case any longer. I tend to thnk they pretty much milked the franchise dry, and in the process decimated bandai, a huge ass corporation in comparison, in valkyrie toy competition. This is something noone would have ever thought would happen when yamato released their YF19. Back then it was a pipe dream. But the 1/48 is an object of perfection, and that my friends nailed the coffin to the 1/55.(in terms of actual toy, I love the 1/55 and truthfully aint nothing taking it down, its the OG but the 1/48 is awesome). So their job is done. yamato has seen bandai takatoku and such have their high points with their license and low points with very lowsales to bankruptcies. Bear in mind yamato is a small company and its main competition in this was bandai which has 2 things over yamato... 1-RESOURCES 2-EXPERIENCE Yamato knows bandais valks ended up gathering dust after being reissued, and that takatoku milked the license and was doing well until they tried milking another license which was not as popular. Yamato is doing the smart thing. In my opinion the molkds and toolings are too expensive for them to turn into ashtrays and boat anchors just yet. They will wait and reissue stuff when demand rises to an unbelievable amount. This is what bandai did NOT do. Bandai waited too long. Yamato on the other hand is playing it safe. They are very smart business men in my eyes. Most of us have gotten what we have wanted, that has been MADE already. What we almost all wnat now are the YF`19FP and perfect variable macross zero toys. THe time will come once again my friends. It has happened before. It took a lil over a decade, but it will happen again.
-
Hmm didn't think about it that way. I kind of agree. The YF19 is very popular. More so than my beloved VF-0. Currently though I must ask... Graham whos idea was it to use Billy Wong? Were there sculptors more experienced with aviation and variable planes aside from him? Did they know about Nishikawasan since the beginning and wait for him last minute or was he the golden needle in the haysack?
-
But they are releasing Scopedog in the US aren't they? It's just HG getting in the way of sales... I bet if they had released 1/48 valks and repackaged them as robotech toys, things might have been different. Money is still money. And if they could expand into other markets they can get more. Yes but see macoss is the past. They cannot deal with us legally. Whatever Yamato can sell legally in the US they will sell. Distribution for Votoms is no problem here, so Yamato offers it. what hasn't yamato offered us besides the valkyries? And most of the toys they make are MAINLY for the japanese market, the only reason we even get other stuff is due to diamond expressing interest to distribute here and yamato wanting to make a quick buck in a different market where money can be had as well. It has nothing to do with fans, it's all about getting that money through legal means. Diamond and yamato USA there is some money to be had in the states, hence the reason we even get stuff. DO you think any of it is designed in the states at all? Nope. All japanese. It's just here because it can be sold here legally and money can be made. The target market is always the japanese market. We are only on the side.
-
YEs but see the VF-1 is to macross, as the RX-78s is to gundam as the MP01 is to transformers. The main known mecha that started it all will always sell the most. We can only assume the YF-19FP would grant the same reaction, though it would in a few circles, it wouldn't please as many people as the 1/48 pleased the VF-1 fans. It's just a given. Though I will agreee that it would please some though.
-
Hey that is a pretty good point. They will most likely never reveal their sales data though. So we are left to speculation. I think the intiaial YF-19s sold pretty well due to the fact that it was the first Diecast/ABS toy that actually resembled a YF19.(not counting the VF19 Kai 1/65 frfom bandai since it is horribly inaccurate in comparison). I also want to bring up another point. During the inception of macross plus, we did not get any toys. Noone got the license. NOt until 1999 and 2000 did we even see a company bother getting a license for macross plus. My point? Perhaps later on years from now is when yamato will decide to make macross zero toys. And perhaps when they reflood the market later, they might make the YF19FP a reality. But who knows. I truly think there will at least one more VF-1 1/48 release to coincide with the GPS. Maybe even a FP reissue. That and a pack in gift set with the GPS. It would be foolish for yamato not to sell a VF-1 to mount the GPs on. And of course for those wanting to get a nice set, a pack in as well.

And they have made horribly inaccurate stuff. Their supposed F-15E is really a D. And it can't mount ANY bombs. Bombs are what seperate the strike and air eagles. Bombs and bomb palettes on CFT's only found on the F-15E. their F-15C is good but can't mount fuselage sparrows. Pretty retarded if ya ask me. Their hornet and falcons can hold most of the weapons in the accessory kits. -
