Marvel 12 Inch Figures
Shin Densetsu Kai 7.0 replied to cwmodels's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I think they will be early summer. These also come with stands, and a book detailing a history of the character's greatest moments and such. IF anything this line looks AWESOME and 15$ for what you get, is a definite bargain. -
The placement of the skull on the tailfins irritates me! Goodness how could they overlook that!!!! It sticks out so much, sad thing is, its intentional too. Other than that its definitely a bargain, but if it came down to seeing this and then VF-0 at a con, I might pick up the VF-0 instead.

1/48 V-F0? that would of nice. Big. and EXPENSIVE. Just imagine how big the box would've been. I laughed when mine came in. I thought it was a computer!! I had to to justify to the wife why we're spending $200 for a toy for me. She said that I had no x-mas gift this year, that mine already came 396907 Over the years, my parents have told me that many times as well. I feel the pain! And while I would have LOVED for a 1/48 VF-0, if the 1/60 was already pushing past 160$, I cringe at how much a 1/48 would have been.

Goodness Graham, GREAT pics!!!! Your statement concerning the VF-0 being more durable than the 1/48 VF-1, that truly made my day. Boys if I get paid mucho at the next anime con and I see this sucker for 150$ or so, I am SO BUYING THIS SUCKER!! Goodness it looks awesome! And for what its worth the bad qc cases have not seemed too severe. God that thing is beautiful. I really do hope we at least get a Ghost FAST pack kit, SV-51 Ivanov, and Shin VF-0D between now and summer 2007, if not sooner. =)

I want Skywarp, or a Hiko Kyodotai repaint! Either one of the 2 would be MUST BUYS for me! And a VF-0D and SV-51 as well! -

Starscream is cheaper. Not to mention, what if yamato works the kinks out of the present VF-0 toy and releases a version 2? Wouldn't be the first time they did a 2nd go. Not to mention, judging by masterpiece prime, I expect starscream to be the more durable of the choices you have. With starscream you pretty much know its a given there will be repaints. With the VF-0? Not so much... very hard decision though! But if anything, the screamlord is the cheaper and may be the more enjoyable of the 2. If anything its the FIRST bad ass rendition of our favorite G1 sniving bastard ever! -

Actually the Su-27 has been naturally unstable from the beginning. Early models relied on an analogue system while newer variants (like the Su-30 and Su-35) have a digital FBW. I think you're thinking of the Mig-29, which did not have FBW in the beginning but newer versions (like the Mig-29M and the Mig-35) do. 396511 I thought the MIG-29A was analogue FBW as well? Or was it just FBW in pitch or yaw? I recall reading FUCLRUM! by one of the defector pilots of the late 80s, and he said the MIG-29 was designed and equipped originally with an analogue FBW since the Soviet feeling was that the next war to be fought between the USSR and US would utilize EMP to knock everything out, and they felt that with analoque signaling, they would be unaffected. -
Would Yamato Be Just As Successful Without Us?
Shin Densetsu Kai 7.0 replied to UN Spacy's topic in Toys
Okay, seriously what ass backward companies are you talking about? The video game industry is the closest thing that I can think of but that's still comparing apples and oranges. Console makers sell the console at a loss in order to get the revenue from the games. Without them sinking the money into the console, that whole revenue stream would not exist. Yamato didn't create the 1/48 at a loss so they could sell gashapons. If you think that there is so much demand for gashapons for them to bring in more revenue at their price point than the 1/48s at their price point then I don't know what to say to you. And I'm talking at this point in the game, after Yamato has made practically every variant of the VF-1 vs all the gashapons they have made since the 1/48s were introduced. Here's a real world example for you. Toynami started with morphers and keychains. Then they went to the MPCs. I talked to someone that used to be in the toy industry and he said that Toynami was basically flipping the money from the morphers and keychains in order to manufacture the MPCs. Given your logic they shouldn't have bothered with them since they'll sell them at a loss. Yet we've seen numerous MPCs both VF1s and Alphas and Toynami is moving into even higher end products with their Cinemaquettes. Why bother if they're going to sell at a loss. Oh and when was the last time that they sold a morpher? Sure they sold Voltron Imen but they stopped and then sold an MPC Voltron. You can point to their various figure lines like Chobits and Inu Yasha but even those lines are moving towards higher end merchandise. Basically toy lines are like monopolies. They pay for a license and have exclusive rights to create items based on the rights they received. Simple economics tells us that in a monopoly situation you limit supply and jack up price to be the most profitable. Who else is making a 1/48? What's the price on those? Hmmm.... How many companies make computers? How quickly is the technology outdated? They have no choice but to live on low margins. 396464 To balance this out and add a note though, Toynami DOES over price their MPC's and Voltron. It was said a year or two ago that the MPC was really 55$ but was sold@80$, and etailers were told that if they did not sell for 79.99, then they would not be allowed to sell them(or in other words, would not be supplied directly from HG). The etailers then said that after 3 months, they could price cut, and a lot of etailers did price cut. Also notice, free shipping was for a lot of the MPC's upon release from the etailers we usually order from. If I got anything wrong here, please any etailer that sold to us, feel free to correct me since its been some time since we have spoken about this. This has to do with that monopoly thing you brought up. They might be selling the MPC at a loss, but by over charging, they got something out of it. Seriously, did anyone think the Voltron MPC was 150$? Almost everyone that bought it said they liked it but wished the price was lower. And guys, we should all remember a year or two ago when a forum member from japan was saying that the max 1/48 and a couple others were freaking GATHERING dust @ the local TRU in japan that he was near. And that one was had for 75$. Yea, I'm pretty sure our monumental demand and superb out-of-japan-only sales drove that one down. yup. -

It was a VFA-11 Red Rippers F/A-18F flown by a former tomcat crew who were in VF-11 and transitioned. The aggressors(VFC-12) have F/A-18Cs. BTW I hear some raptor pilots are pissed the gun camera footage was released. 395876 That's no lie. On another site that David and I frequent, a Raptor driver went as far as to have the thread cited as a "security concern" in order to get thread shut down by the moderators. He's not too happy it showed up and the rest of the board hasn't stopped laughing at him since. Meanwhile the Navy is having a field day distributing those photos (a guy I know in VFA-103 who claims there is much more where that came from) I'm gonna go on a limb and speculate here, it's just an opinion and personal observation. The reason "Waco" was so quick to try and get that picture yanked is because right now the USAF is banking on the F-22A's "invincible" image being untarnished so they can continue to push for more airframes, and any sign of weakness is immediately pounced upon by the "have-nots". Don't get me wrong, I like the F-22 (and yes it is more than capable of performing a cobra/culbit). It's a great and capable fighter to replace the USAF's aging F-15 fleet (if the Tomcat community had to deal with change, can the Eagle community be far behind?)... but just like every other jet out there, it isn't perfect. VFA-11 and VFA-103 have both proved that in spades in red vs. blue training. I also think that the USAF is in a bit of a "what do we do now?" mindframe. They've got this ultra-expensive new toy, which they "claim" is for "kicking down the door" for advance operations during a conflict. The problem is they desperately need to prove this capability sometime soon in something other than a simulated conflict. Lots of people on capitol hill are looking around and scratching their heads trying to figure out which side of the fence is the best one to be on in this issue. 396052 Wow Waco is being laughed at? Me, I don't see anything wrong with the pics at all, hell who the heck knows, maybe the raptor pilot who was nabbed by the super bug crew was new to the plane or having a bad day. The crew in the super bug was an experienced crew, this once again proves, its the pilot, not the plane. Under ideal circumstances and with a highly experienced pilot though, I'm sure the raptor is one hell of a beast to mess with. Only thing I wonder is why the raptor pilot let the bug get so close and didn't just duck under, split-S and use speed to seperate. And for just this one mock kill theres dozens of mock kills that the raptor's got on other planes as well. I wonder though, does the MKI definitely have an edge over the raptor close in... -
Would Yamato Be Just As Successful Without Us?
Shin Densetsu Kai 7.0 replied to UN Spacy's topic in Toys
I think this has already been refuted. As far as I know, Yamato is a Japanese company while Toycom is the US branch. It wasn't the company's intent to merely sell to the US. It was their intent to sell their product through their US subsidiary to the US. Actually, I wholeheartedly believe that Yamato was very dependent on Macross. I don't know the whole history but the first time that I've really heard of them was with their Macross line. They got a license that the owners enjoyed and that they could milk. I think Yamato would have been more successful if they had started with the VF-1 rather than M+ valks. Think about the line. They make one VF-1 sculpt and produce a ton of variants. The initial investment yields huge revenue over the course of the entire line. This is basically the same formula they are following for their Votoms line with the Scopedog. Between the Macross valkyries and their gashapon sets, I believe, that's where they got their money to pursue the other licenses you talk about to expand their product line as their Macross possibilities were dwindling. I think the timeline of releases will support my claim. Don't confuse the amount of money made with profit margin. The computer company will earn a higher return with the cable but make more profit on the computer. If they made that much money of a cable then why not just be a cable manufacturer? I don't even know what your point is on the $1.50 toy so I'm going to stop here. 395924 Thing is they were around before they made macross stuff. Macross just made them bigger in the eyes of the japanese toy collecting community. We as macross fans hadn't heard of them before simply because they never made anything macross until the macross plus toys. -

Is it just unsafe to fly for a pilot? Perhaps the FBW and digital avionics/weapons systems have yet to mature? Also I did hear@ARC that the F-22 CAN do a cobra, but we probably won't see it until the airshow demos start. Which is next year. 395682 I gotta agree with Shin about that possible severe flaw with the F-22's FBW system linked to it's TVE nozzles or maybe a few kinks in the aircraft's engines which would probably cause the aircraft to stall frequently or spin out of control. Also, Shin I too, am honestly convinced that an F-22 can do a COBRA thanx to it's TVEN's but a CULBIT more impressively? No, because the F-22 of course lacks lateral vectoring capabilities or more so 3-D thrust vectoring like the SU-37 possesses. Sure, it would be cool if the F-22 could do the CULBIT, but because it has 2-D TV capabilities since 3-D would compromise it's stealth capabilties, it can't. So if the F-22 wasn't a stealth aircraft, it can do it like the SU-37. I don't know if you guys covered that in the first super thread but I thought that I just point that out. P.S. Knight26 when they refer to 2-D and 3-D TV, does the D in that mean dimensional or directional? 395801 Culbit doesn't need 3d thrust vectoring....the SU-35 did it, and it only had 2d vectoring(just pitch). Same with the bell. BTW the first super thread went over 100 pages and yes, many of the things you point out, were pretty much all covered there. And Phalanx, don't put words in my mouth. If the F-22 were really stall prone I'm pretty sure all of us would have heard years back. Not to mention the engines are close togethere(unlike the F-14) so the loss of one engine wouldn't be as bad as losing one on a tomcat. It was a VFA-11 Red Rippers F/A-18F flown by a former tomcat crew who were in VF-11 and transitioned. The aggressors(VFC-12) have F/A-18Cs. BTW I hear some raptor pilots are pissed the gun camera footage was released. -

yes~! I open the book and compare with the Tenjin's artwork and the original mecha design, most of detail is accuracte, even the proportion, but I not satisfy enough is this time not perfect transfrom... the antenna under the fighter head need to detach during transfrom, maybe we can rotate it to instead detach, but this is very danger that easy to broke the antenna 395703 Ah its just an antenna. Knowing me, Im so lazy I'd probably just leave it off!( I leave off the nose plug on my 1/60 as well...LOL)

Would Yamato Be Just As Successful Without Us?
Shin Densetsu Kai 7.0 replied to UN Spacy's topic in Toys
I don't think that was their sole intent. They were planning to sell in japan and the USA simultaneously. 395321 OK but who has the biggest consumer market Japan or the world? They know that weren't gonna survive without some fans outside of Japan so why even put out full page ads in the US toy/hobby magazines? All that investment was of course in vain from a marketing standpoint but it was calling card none the less. It helped Yamato generate sales of it's products and to undervalue our part as being non-factors, this statement isn't directed at you when I say this, that's ignorant. 395343 The world market is bigger but the larger target audience/main/market is in japan. I'm pretty sure yamato/toycom was just marketing the valks in the USA because at the time they could, and wanted to make some money outside of japan and in japan simultaneously. Same thing with Votoms. I'm guessing Votoms, Ideon, and such were all selling more in japan than they did here. Lets face it, to me we are a 2ndary market, we get what is primarily targeted to the japanese, and what yamato usa thinks could sell good here. If not, if we were the intended target market, we would be getting USA exclusive stuff, a majority of stuff that Japan would not get simply because it would sell more here, or so we think. I mean if macross plus toys were meant to be sold primarily to us, I doubt yamato would have even sold them in japan while the whole fiasco went on. Simply because in that view, japan would be the 2ndary market and would not make as much money. Think of how much stuff we beg for but never get. We seem to wonder why the stealth valk, lowviz II, and green GPS were made; stuff that we never really asked for. Yet in japan, amongst their various BBS's, perhaps they have it differently, perhaps those kinds of repaints were in demand. After all yamato can't legally market stuff to us, so why waste the money in doing so? It'd be nice, but it ain't happening. Now if they could market to the US, I bet we would be polling the hell out of color schemes and we'd have represenatives coming here tallying what we want, and eventually getting stuff catered to us, like a REAL low viz II, stuff like that; color schemes more popular here than in japan. And I'm pretty sure yamato put a lot of effort into sculpting the scopedogs and Ideon/Zeroymer/Escaflowne. Yamato was around before macross was here folks, just turns out Macross made them more popular. -

Would Yamato Be Just As Successful Without Us?
Shin Densetsu Kai 7.0 replied to UN Spacy's topic in Toys
I think they would. Remember they are not legally allowed to cater to us, and their sales and demand in japan seem to be going pretty well. I bet macross zero toys were made due to increasing demand in the japanese market, probably had nothing to do with us. If they could sell here then I would be saying differently, but right now they can't. And remember japanese fans usually just come here for the info, as of yet we literally only have a handful that actually post here, like Howard and maybe a few others. We only make up a small part of the overall "whole", it just seems like there are a ton of us since we all conglomerate into one huge forum. Yamato has been successful these past years never catering to us, rather to the japaense market because thats all they had, and they stay afloat. So yes I think they could survive without us because technically, they have been all along. And yes i hope one day they can market here and give us stuff we want, like a VF-2SS, VF-2JA and Metal Siren. Seems to me in the case of Macross II, its more popular abroad than it is in japan.
