1. Funny you mention them reverse engineering the Pheonix missle because the Russians actually purchased an Alicat along with it's set of pheonix missles to do the same thing as the MIG-31 was actually inspired the cat's Pheonix missle system and during the heyday of the MIG-31 it seemed like a suitable equal to the F-14 since it's R-33S missles were the Russian counterpart of American Pheonix missles. However, if that was the case with the F-14, how come the Iranians chose not to purchase a small number of MIG-31B's, MIG-31M,MIG-31FE, OR MIG-31BM's for that matter back then, as they had seemingly formidable updates to their avionics? I mean this would have saved them many man hours of testing and reverse engineering the original F-14s they have as these new Foxhound variants have modern avionics to start off with than their Alicats. If the Iranians were to hypothetically have either one of these variants, preferably the Foxhound M or FE, the only modifications they would have to do is probably give the aircraft analogue flight controlls and probably add their "Fatter" missles to them. 404900 Russians purchased an Ali cat? Nope, proved to be BS.
2. The Iranians have been trying various re-fit programmes on their Tomcats since the Iran/Iraq War. The May issue of Combat Aircraft Magazine has a pretty in depth article on the IRIAF written by Tom Cooper. Apparently the Iranians have been able to rig a new launch rail to allow carriage of the AA-11 missiles they bought with their Mig-29s. They've also done extensive re-fits to the avionics, replacing most of the AWG-9s analogue components with digital ones. 404783 If you ask me, I wouldn't dare modify the avionics or airframe of any aircraft unless I knew the anatomy of a fighter intimately. I wouldn't risk making those modifications for fear that I may mess up the aircraft. I'm sure tthey know what their doing and fully aware of the risks though. But then again, those Alicat's would't stand a chance our aircraft. I wonder if they managed to get one fully operational variant yet. However, I honestly think it's starnge but interesting seeing an American aircraft being retrofitted with russian engines like the Saturn L'yulka WS-10 engines, however their new enignes they;ve been trying to install in their Alicats' would make it easy to tell that it's not American since Russian engine turbines spin a little differently than AMerican engines, if I recall. 404806 THe russian engine retrofit was all rumor. No they have not gained any Tomcat variant other than the A. Yes they know the aircraft intimately well, they did have the USN there in the late 70s to help out with the tomcat program and I heard they have a program to reverse engineer the parts they need and for the TF-30's that they have. Not to mention the Iranians were used to helping themselves out with their earlier planes, you have to remember this used to be the world's 4th largest airforce and one of the most powerful in the mideast till the mid 80s.
3. IS anyone else reading Ion or Moon Knight? I totally forgot that comics were delayed this week due to memorial day.
4. Because the deluxe ones(astrotrain, bumblebee, starscream) are $9.99 in the deluxe size class. MEgs and PRime are $19.99 in the voyager size class.
5. It'd make sense...the engines are relatively new powerplants in service
6. I have a feeling it has to do with the sensitivity of the electronics to cold weather. This is just an assumption though.
7. Hello mw'ers. There is a local con coming up and I am planning to sell some artwork I am in the process of drawing up. I did hear that Tommy Yune and a few others from HG will be in attendance at the con, as well as Mari Ijima. Knowing that this is an anime con, I am certain that fanart can be sold however... With HG reps in attendance do you think i could still sell some of my macross drawings/paintings? Just wondering since some of you have more experience going to anime cons and such. I would be selling in the art auction thing, not the dealers room. *wondering if Mari Ijima would sign a drawing I do of Minmei...HMM!!*
8. I wouldn't say apefaces, a lot of people on there definitely know their stuff, pin point accuracy and all, after all its a MODEL KIT forum....so its to be expected. Here's stuff that you should avoid if it has not been pointed out already -NO super hornet vs super tomcat threads. -NO asking raptor pilots about the classified specs for a plane. Classified means classified, do you think pilots would risk their wings just to tell stuff to some kid on a forum? -Limit the Flanker craze -NO stating facts that you THINK you know, but DON'T KNOW for sure You might want to try acig.org. They are not the most reliable but maybe they are more friendly? While you think that some of them might take stuff too seriously some of them have good reason to do so, it goes both ways, some noobs are too annoying and ask too many questions that are easily answered had they read through the forums or in the least gone to good reliable websites. And for what its worth for a noob coming to a model kit forum and not knowing a decent amount of airplanes......and asking a TON....well....the outcome is a bit obvious.
9. Was the F110-GE-400 model engined actually designed exclusively for the proposed Tomcat 21 concept for that matter?Even though a new version of the F110, the GE F110-GE-129 would originally power the aircraft, giving it the abilty to supercruise, it seems as though that when Grumman panned the Tomcat21 concept design at first, the new GE-400, an updated of the 129 model would probably be used as the F-14D's new engines. 403996 129 was an update to the 400. 400 was for the F-14B and D......it was the true solution to the engine problem with the TF-30. TF30 was supposed to be a temporary engine, ATE was to power most of the fleet but when it got canned, the navy was left with no other engine. Till The Ge110 and when the navy smacked F101DFE's into the super tomcat proto and decided the production version(110) would power the B/D's.
10. Coincidentally enough, its also the same scale(1/60) as the new VF-0 toy.
11. Had a neighbor we used to babysit. Lil bastard would mess with my toys while I was at school. He snapped both vertical stablizers off of my night boomer(gijoe TRU exclusive night force skystriker), snapped the landing gear off of my phantom x19, and broke some of my flying fighters I think. If all that didn't happen I wouldn't be battying constantly to hasbro begging for a skystriker reissue.
12. what bout stealth fury? it is what it is after all.
13. I didn't expect it to be as good as 1 and 2 were, and it sure as hell wasn't. However coming into the movie thinking that, I kind of knew what to expect. I thought it was good but it could have been so much better had Singer stayed on. It hurts it a ton when his trailer is shown before the x3 movei starts and how painfully obvious super man returns looks a ton better. Angel was a complete waste, my friend thinks the actor who played Spike was thrown in there because he was in rush hour, psylocke was way too thin and wasted too, and Storm's choreagraphy was terrible. Good God. I'd give it a 3 out of 5.
14. Fat Fury would be descriptive, and sound cool. lol I'm thinking thrust vectoring on the tranche 3 typhoon will make it kick more ass than it already does. Its like overkill on something that is already good at killing. It'd be awesome if it replaces the alpha jets on the snowbirds team. Wait...maybe I got the teams mixed up... Will tranche 3 have the internal gun?
15. I think you get the morgan by completing the game on knight, soldier, and mercenary style. Thats when the falken is unlocked as well. *on my 5th playthrough and still haven't bought/unlockled" all the planes* The F-15C's color schemes all kick arse. Bout time they did it some justice! F-16XL has some wasteful color schemes....the NASA and Wizard ones are the best.
16. I used an F-14D.....I think the key to beating him is just turning hard and always remember where he is. That and brake and increase your turn radius the minute he tries to turn away from you. Thats how I got him.
17. Also just wondering, have any of you picked up the battle of the planets comics that Wilson Tortosa drew in recent years? They look cool but I want to buy the anime and watch it first before I give them reads.
18. http://s64.photobucket.com/albums/h184/buddykiller/ 402353 Have those been released? - C 402396 nope, they will be later this year
19. The Morgan. BEst thing to do is use a fast fighter. Keep getting in gun range, gun him off, but make sure only to fire once he stops his turning. Just get in pretty close when you want to fire the missles. He dodges most of the missles you fire at him. When he starts using the MPBM, he is usually vulnerable for a few minutes after lofting it. And the last part you have to fight him head on only. Takes 6 head on missle shots to kill. The qaam comes handy for that part. BUt whatever you do make sure you are using a fast fighter. I used an EA-18G and got pissed so I used a YF-23 and owned him afterwards.
20. 220 mm wouldmean he isn't in scale with MPC Prime already does it? He'll be about the size of a 1/60 Valkyrie? 402377 Prime was close to 1/24 scal give or take. RFT did calculations and starscream is about 1/60 scale. robot mode is a bit over 8", fighter mode legnth is 13".
21. And yet a year or 2 years ago nearly all of you said they neglected "us, beloved fans ever deserving discontented fans who supposedly according to experts not even in japan, contributed the majority of their sales" and acted as if they owed us. Slow down? Do you guys REALLY want that? I doubt it. And I also doubt yamato would be stupid enough to break bread and fall apart like takatoku. I'm sure they know their limits. They are just going with the flow and satisfying the japanese fanbase. And until that whole HG shindig falls apart, its gonna be that way. And once that happens THEN they can service us. I bet the 1st release will be Shin's VF-0A. It'd be the one fresh off fan's minds since it was in the latest and last episode. Either that or Graham is right and maybe it'll be a cannon fodder...... With a Ghost Box set w/Shin's VF-0A afterwards!
22. YEs they are rub signs. Star scream, hot rod, and astrotrain are deluxe size class, and $9.99 Optimus Prime is voyager size class, $19.99 I find it funny they gave Starscream an F-14-esque windscreen. I hope we see pics of GRimlock, Soundwave, Sky/Jetfire, and Megatron soon.
