  1. Yes what about ratchets on the shoulder joints too? I LOVE RATCHETS!
  2. Yes but it damn should be...after all, it was made 20 years later and costs twice as much...... All the newbies should have at least one chunky. Yamatos are everywhere, with new ones coming out, so its not going to be hard for the new guy to track one down.
  3. Still a great toy to start the guy out with though. Like I've said earlier, if he wants more detail and aesthetic, it can only get better from there... As for durability(which is important to me), I am still waiting for someone to make a VF-1 with the indestructability of the VF-1, and the aesthetic of Yamato.
  4. I will probably buy the Max. That first scene of his in DYRL is chock full of win.
  5. As good as they are, Yamato as a whole still has a long way to go to match the durability of the 1/55. Whose shadow was Yamato living in for years? BANDAI. The 1/55 fighter mode does not look like a plane with legs and arms, the only dead give away is the head, and even the 1/48 VF-1S couldn't get past that either. 1/55 FTGDMF'NW
  6. Holy hell they tampo printed the kite! BAD ASS! Very excited for this one.
  7. Hush you! 1/55 is a classic. It still looks good now. Telling someone not to buy that is like telling a Transformers fan not to buy G1 Optimus Prime, only the chunky is way more articulated FTW. Besides, Chuck Norris got a 1/48, and upon looking at it, the Bp8 broke. He bought a 1/55, and it broke him. He said he wants a VF-1. Built for playing? The Bandai will outlast the Yamato in that regard. Yamatos yellow worse, my old 1/60 VF-1A Hikaru is yellowed like hell!
  8. Heh heh she kung fu gripped her shirt. She is hot, thicker than I initially thought.
  9. Wave 9 Carded Hell yea he is!
  10. Missles? WIN! Huh? When? I'm fine with the old clip on missles, but 4 this time around as opposed to only with the 2 on the strike
  11. I don't know. Back to chunky goodness, since the armor isn't really that much more plastic, I can see the strike priced the same as the Max/Hikaru Super sets.
  12. OOOO that too! Agreed! I also love the purple tinted white plastic on the VF-1A Hikaru. That was an AWESOME touch.
  13. Same here. Haven't seen episode 6 yet though. Since she is a singer he probably thinks her songs will have an effect.
  14. So long as the toys turn out great, I don't care about scale accuracy.
  15. Hey transfan how much was that Scopedog? Also folks, I just watched the first episode of Pailsen files, the only other Votoms experience I have had before is from watching preview snippets from a few years back. Any suggestions on what else I should be watching?
  16. No, it is that good. What transforming robot toy was that articulated in the 80's, and looked good in the process with no obvious indication that it could transform? The closest thing is the G1 Starscream, and thats laughable in comparison. Even for now, it looks balanced in all modes, with no mode seemingly getting preference over the other. A battroide mode with no skinny limbs. A sleek fighter mode. Tight ratchets all over. A slick gloss paint coat. Diecast done right without loosening limbs over time. The reissues are an affordable way to buying a classic toy. No need to pay vintage prices. The new stuff is everywhere, he can wait on those. Besides Yamato isn't known to knock things out the ball park on their first go. You may bring up the latest Nora SV-51, but they've been making valkyries for 8 years now, and their qc has been hit or miss. With the chunky you already know what you're getting into, and it can only get better from there, with regards to detail/aesthetic if he so chooses.... The only good alternatives are the 1/48 and new 1/60. The 1/48 is $140+ depending on where you go, and the new 1/60 hasn't been released yet, and we know how Yamato is with 1st releases. Go chunky! Yeah but this guy is new, this is his first valk, if he is not satisfied and pays a lot for a Yamato, he will be dissapointed. I've been part of this forum for 7-8 years and you know what? Yamato always says that. They do have a new guy on board who we can say is responsible for the Nora SV-51 being good. Yet why wasn't there someone like this when the VF-0 arms were breaking for a reason no one could pinpoint for a while, or when the first run of Ivanov SV-51's came out, or when the Tab B happened 8 years ago, or the VF-11 bust-a-hips 7 years ago? No excuses. Its good they got a new guy now who is stricter, but it took them long enough. I suggest getting a bandai first. Yamato's are readily available now and for the forseable future. I encourage getting a yamato at some point(either a 1/48 or new 1/60), but to start with, a chunky is a good way to go. Its also one of the rare toys that will break your kids rather than your kids breaking it.
  17. This is a stretch, but maybe the Vajra utilized technology from the Megaroad-01 in making the VF-27, and that Megaroad-01 had no knowledge of the valkyries that UN Spacy and NUNS were making since its dissapearance, so it has its own series of valkyries with overlapping designations, yet completely different designs.
  18. No it wasn't. Yeah but not most, just most in that poll, not most anime fans in general. Even in that thread, there wasn't that much difference in numbers so that was a poor source of evidence.
  19. It is, oh goodness it is. You should have seen my disgust when I saw the hip/groin plates bent forward due to the stress. The gold trimmed thigh/hip joints should not be facing forward in jet mode. It stays in place due to the gear mechanism. I honestly think the spring was a mistake in the factory, it really should be on the right arm. Switching the spring improves both arms, not just one.
  20. Okay folks Toynami/Tamashii(Bandai) is bringing us 1/55 Valkyries. What are the ones you want to see released aside what's already been announced?
  21. After watching DYRL again in recent years, I WANT the Super-O. That is one beautiful bird. I remember my first days on Macrossworld when Shawn and Graham made the Bandai toy section, and uploaded pics of the Bandai armor trio. DROOL. The Super O has a nice color scheme and looks great in battroid mode. The ELINT seeker is bad ass. Even if its unarmed, just look at it. That toy has presence. Part of this is because of the sculpt that Takatoku had, balanced in all modes, powerful battroid mode. Strike...well anyone who liked DYRL wants the Strike. Lets just hope they give it 4 missle clusters this time around.
  22. One thing to admire about DYRL is that its still one of the best anime movies ever conceived. All of it was hand drawn. If any of you have taken animation classes, you know that it took a lot of hours just drawing each cel. What DYRL is, is a masterpiece. The animation is beautiful. The story is good. The character interaction is great. The music is excellent. Tenshi Enogu is one Minmay's best songs. It is different from the TV series, but if it wasn't there wouldn't be a point for it. The pace at which events occur is probably what upsets most viewers. Since its a movie and retelling, I think most fans of the TV series did not expect certain events to happen so quickly. Roy's death has more impact in this. Its much more dramatic. Rather than death due to combat wounds, this one is death with a sacrifice. Max and Milia's first encounter here is much more intense than in the TV series. Kakizaki's death is almost a joke in this one. Hikaru's killing of Bodolza is a great ending. When I was younger I kept thinking Hikaru's hair in that scene looked similar to Roy's, so I thought it was Hikaru getting revenge, not against Kaifun, but against the Zentraedi that started the war and resulted not only in the deaths of Roy, but much of the human population. The movie is more emotionally dramatic and has more of an impact than the series, in this sense it makes up for the events happening much more quickly.
