Contrary to some of your experiences, I actually enjoyed this movie. I would have seen the sequel too, if one had been greenlighted. I quite liked how they took a non-superhero approach to super-hero style powers.

Bump because it's been slow here recently on the finished model kit side. Why not revisit some very cool threads - and this is one of my favourites! Go to page one and enjoy again!

I love and use Mr Super Clear (Flat). Tamiya's TS-80 has only just become available to me - I would be interested in hearing if it's any good as well.

Build your own, that way you'll be happy. It seems there are a lot people who get kind of 'anxious' over at RI whenever Galactica gets mentioned. Make your scratchbuild, and enjoy the process, its much more rewarding!

Bandai 1/72 Scale Macross Frontier Plastic Models
PetarB replied to Graham's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
I did Aerospace Engineering at university. I found it difficult, and ultimately dissatisfying - it takes a very particular sort of person to become a good engineer. I have a different career now. Good luck with the career choice, and getting to know metric is a very, very good idea. Anyway, lets get back on topic. Let's have the new Q-Rau please Bandai! At least you can't make it transformable... -
You are all wrong. At the start of the next episode, an old, old Rick Hunter and Lisa Hayes will hobble out from the ship, look up and say 'help us, we are trying to escape from the Shadow Chronicles, help us please!'

Standard would be 21.65 centimetres. -
Sorry Grayson, you have some serious priority issues there. Models > House.

Bandai 1/72 Scale Macross Frontier Plastic Models
PetarB replied to Graham's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Let's not stray off-topic too much. HWKR was pessimistic about Bandai at the start of this thread, and I brought up the EX series to counter his attitude. Now I feel like I share his pessimism. If only they would release the damn thing! Then we could have accurate opinions. Anyway, I'm eyeing off the purple 'mysterious' valkyrie we've seen recently as another modelling possibility, it looks very cool. -
Bandai 1/72 Scale Macross Frontier Plastic Models

I think you're right. Surely the crappy canopy plastic is just for the prototype? It really helps make it look like a toy at the moment. -
It looks like he replaced it with metal tubing or rod. It would provide more than enough support - better than the plastic in fact - as long as plenty of the rod went into the plastic.
-
Good luck with that request - I've asked the same thing, even posting threads - several times before, and no one seems to have any response. Does anyone build up these models? I'd love to see them....!

Well said, ComicKaze, well said!

Bandai 1/72 Scale Macross Frontier Plastic Models
PetarB replied to Graham's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Regardless of where they are at with the process, the current 'prototype' looks a lot worse that the initial one we saw. The proportions don't look as nice. Regardless, I will be purchasing one, and I will probably be filling gaps with epoxy putty and rescribing. I'm still looking forwards to this release, but it looks like it's going to be a lot of work to get it up to standard I'm happy with. -

I'll say, look at all those seams. This is going to take ages just to fill them in and rescribe a bit neater. Ugh... very disappointing, Bandai. First time I've been disappointed by production rather than prototype. Usually it's the other way around! -
That looks quite good! The only thing that sticks out to me are the red bits, which looks quite glossy in comparison to the weathered dark grey areas. But perhaps it's the effect you were after. Anyway, nice work, I had no idea the kit was this good, but perhaps its what you put into it that made the difference.

Hasegawa's excellent kit is available at Hobby Link Japan.

At some art shops you can also find 0.5 and 0.2 mm 'pigment' ink pens. They are very similar things, which I've used in the same way. They are more expensive than normal pens. Just walk into an art supply store and ask.

Awesome work Boinger, really appreciate it!

Bandai 1/72 Scale Macross Frontier Plastic Models

A good paintjob with an few fine layers from the airbrush will not cover up detail. Ocassionally you may lose a little detail due to sanding, though. If the colours are different, to give a consistent tone, you will have to apply many coats of primer... then you WILL lose detail. I've built plenty of kits which are not bootleg, which have pin location issues. Anyway, on to the issue... I'm disappointed by Bandai's approach. I thought that the fact that the toy people were getting the 1/60, that Bandai might do a more reputable job and echo Hasegawa's attention to fine detail, but those big seams and hinges in the their 1/72 execution leave a lot to be desired. 'Transforming Models' do not work - any fine paint job will not hold up to transformation. Paint chips, scuffing, and delamination of the finish will ensue after a bit of 'playing'. My models are not for 'play' - they are for viewing only. Never the less, I'm happy to be able to get hold of one. I will be filling those 'transformation' seams and rescribing with a nice fine, thin line. Unfortunately a lot of people who would like the same level of execution may not be able do this for various reasons. The one thing that could wreck the party is the one thing I see on the prototype - and I hope its just a prototype issue - a thick canopy. I'm quite excited to see the Vajra done as well. Gonna grab one of those. Personally, I hope the whole line goes well, and Bandai release some of the other air/spacecraft we've seen in the series to date, love the designs! And who knows.... there may be more original 'hero' designs in forthcoming episodes! -
I had a brief look at it last night (back at work now) and I was excited by what I saw. By and large the castings look good, but I must admit I did not have a good look at the canopy - it was sealed in a bag with lots of other small parts. The canopy looked opaque, but I've dealt successfully with canopies like that before with a combination of a lot of polishing and Future. But if it's too thick though, it wont look good, as you say. Thanks for your offer, I'm going to check it out again tonight.

I just got one of these in the mail. Casting looks good! I had planned to build a Millenium Falcon next, but this... looks pretty good! Can you tell I'm excited!?!?

Bandai 1/72 Scale Macross Frontier Plastic Models

I just saw Macross Frontier #5. At the end of the episode a new fighter appears from the 'Galaxy' group. It looks like a VF-4 evolution... very very cool. I would love to own a styrene, or even resin kit of that one. Hopefully Bandai are kicking that idea around. -
Nice work. I wish I drilled out my airbrake. I loved building this model, and from what I can see you're doing a good job so far.
