I love the shape of this aircraft, it's like a sea-gull taking flight. For a long time as well I've been looking for a subject that I could make a Search And Rescue aircraft. As it has high visibility cockpits and a detector array on top, I though it would be a great model to customise this way. And the Captain's resin kit is really just superb, I couldn't fault it... apart from the radar housing on top which I didn't like. So I built another one out of styrene, using a circle cutter, drill and lathe. I had an accident with glue on one edge, and there was no way of fixing it without building again, so that fault's mine. I also added a couple of (ahem!) StudioStarforge pilots. Originally I had planned to sculpt some more just for this kit, but they fitted in fine, so there was no need for it. I also put in some wingtip lights, and turned a new refuelling pod on my lathe. I highly recommend this kit, it was easy to put together. I could build another one, one day, perhaps with a slightly more 'canon' scheme! One of the pics below is an 'odd one out'. Can you guess which?

I'm a big fan of Assault Suit Valken and Leynos, will be doing this kit as well. I can't wait to see your version!

FURIOUS OVER NEW CONAN (Conan the Barbarian remake)
PetarB replied to Agent ONE's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I didn't see any 'manicured facial hair' on Conan in either of the trailers. It doesn't look like he has any facial hair at all in the trailers. Or mascara for that matter. Momoa's not perfect, but neither was Arnie. Like any literary figure though, everyone will have their own interpretations. I'm just happy that we are getting a new Conan movie with a little money behind it. -

For game fans, this looks like MIrror's Edge! I don't really need to see this story again, so soon. -
FURIOUS OVER NEW CONAN (Conan the Barbarian remake)

People come to these things for different reasons. For me, as a fan of the original literature, Arnold is NOT 'the' Conan... but I still think Milius's movie is one of the best fantasy movies ever, and I love it to death, and I can see why people are scratching their heads. So far, this looks a bit schizophrenic, but I will go and see it. -
FURIOUS OVER NEW CONAN (Conan the Barbarian remake)

The beginning was a bit naff, but then it turns into awesome. I like how Conan doesn't compromise here, I'm hoping this will surprise us... -
Most of them look pretty cool, if a little more stylised that I imagined. However, Thorin does look a little young in my opinion. His 'luxuriant beard' is anything but. Still Richard Armitage is a great actor and I know he will bring the steely determination on that was Thorin's prime characteristic.

I've always found capoeira fun to watch. It does appear more of a 'dance' between equals though... Real martial arts cannot be learned through video... there are subtle things like 'weight' in hands etc that cannot be shown on video, they must be felt in the limbs, for example. Anyway, I still enjoy watching good martial arts!

Time to resurrect this thread. Have been doing Shorinkan Shorin-Ryu Karate for the last 9 years. I really should go twice a week, but with all my work commitments etc, its only once a week. I used to edit their magazine as well, which was fun but frustrating, I ended up writing many of the articles myself! I did kenjitsu for awhile straight after Karate but I was too exhausted. I really need a break after 2 hours of training! Whenever I'm learning a new kata I look up people who do it on Youtube and am amazed at how 'different' the katas look to the ones I know, even if the movements are the same. Who else is training at the moment?

I prefer the weathering on this to your Defender in some ways. Very nice custom though. And you gotta love the lady decorating the chest area!

Wow look at that weathering. The twin sharkmouths made me smile.

If you're interested in production, a new video blog is up here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gc6TVoYeKJU&feature=player_embedded#at=16 It's mainly about location scouting, we don't get to see too much of the movie or characters unfortunately. Interesting to see Gollum has graduated to 2nd unit director.

yui1107 - thanks for posting that. Some amazing photography there - of both models!

Interesting idea and a nice clean build.

It actually looks good... but I am so, so, so over 'superhero origins' stories. I think we've seen the parent's scene time, and time again.

Space is dark. However dark is relative. On planets with atmosphere and in nebula, light is diffused to reflection and excitement of minute particles. This produces a nice all over lighting effect. However in the rest of space (probably 99.99_repeating% volume), there's none of this nice diffusing element. If you are lucky enough to be lit by a local light source, you're either going to be very brightly lit, or in shadow. You can see some of this effect in space shots released by NASA. Actually space is quite cold. However, because vacuum is a great insulator, if you have excess heat, it's actually difficult to get rid of it, which is rather counter intuitive. Unlike being in an atmosphere where natural air turbulence generated by the heat will help get rid of it, in space you have to find new ways to get rid of excess heat that your machine/body/etc produces. Anyway, back to normally scheduled viewing...

Fantastic, didn't spot that.

That's a very nice idea, and also would be easy to create, if they have room to do it on the PE sheet.
-
Not yet. I purposely did not take any pics at this time because the cockpit area pics will be used for something else. More on that I cannot say at this time! Sorry to be mysterious, should be fun when it eventuates...

That is crazy different! Where did you get the big round Regult decal from? Is that a custom one? Very nice!
-
Tabi boots? Haha! The hexagon pattern was done with tamiya masking tape - I cut out lots and lots of little hexagons out. The whole shape was airbrushed with orange, then I covered the ones I wanted to remain orange and airbrushed the brown.

Fact: The original movie was the first anime I had ever seen. It blew me away at the tender age of whatever I was (9?), I have very fond memories of it, although I have not seen it for many years.

I did lot of little mods to this... from roll bars to paintwork, custom decals and more, which I won't go into here. I wanted to build a destroid from a future Mars Base, after the original was destroyed in the Zent war. The one depicted is for patroling the polar caps, hence the mainly white colour scheme and martian dust liberally applied! Wave did a wonderful job on these destroids, this was a joy to build. I hope they continue to release the rest of the destroid line... Thanks for looking!

Thanks for all that info Lolicon. Makes me really, really want one of these in 1/72 now...

I'll never forget seeing a couple of these at an airshow in Windsor around 1991. Very impressive beast, but certainly due for retirement.
