Starship Troopers: Invasion - New SST Anime
PetarB replied to VT 1010's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
@ Knight26 The words he's saying are almost word for word from the start (or was it the end?) of the original Starship Troopers book. Perhaps indicative of an approach more closer to the text? Interesting....- 121 replies

Hi Casey The banner photo was shot outside. I wanted it to look 'realistic' so I went for a high-contrast view with a composition similar to what you'd see in real life - the aircraft itself has a beautiful shape from this angle too. The rest of the shots were taken in my studio which has a light-tent. The Minmay decal was scavenged from the Minmay 2009 Special kit - it's included but not necessary for the kit, so it's like a big 'bonus' decal, and I was trying to work out how to use it. The rest of the decals are either custom made (SAR-479, "Sear And Rescue + the age of my three girls at the time of building this) or pulled from my growing pile of option and spare decals.

Prometheus - on Blu-Ray and DVD Oct. 9, 2012
PetarB replied to Pizza the Hutt's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Doesn't look too bad to me. Then again, I have never seen a spaceship in real life. I would like to see physical models again. They looked great in 'Moon' from a couple of years ago. But I doubt we will. -
Ah, one of my favourite aircraft... ever. Nice work. And very nice Cylon raider there 505!

I loved this movie, I thought it was a lot of fun! Highly recommended despite what you will hear by 'serious' critics.

I think the pics speak for themselves...

Books I've read this year that could fall into this thread: REAMDE - Neal Stephenson Highly recommended, could be set only a few years in the future. Neal's going a bit more mainstream here than his usual SF, but for a number of reasons you could still call this SF 'lite'. Lots of interesting ideas though. Blue Remembered Earth - Alaistair Reynolds Still in the middle of this. It's okay. Not up to Reynolds usual calibre so far. My favourite Reynolds is Chasm City, and The Prefect. Emphyrio - Jack Vance I dearly love Jack Vance's books, written from the late seventies on. Earlier stuff is okay, but I do prefer his later work like Lyonesse. However, this - like the Dying Earth - is one of his early gems and a true SF classic. I had not read Emphyrio for some time, and to return is a bittersweet treat. Children of the Sky - Vernor Vinge Another author who's work I love, however I did not love his last book 'Rainbows End'. This new one is meant to be the sequel to 'A Fire Upon the Deep', one of the modern SF classics, and one of my favourite books. However, it's much less engrossing than the earlier work. Whereas the original told of a grand adventure in a strange but familiar universe, this one tells a story on a much smaller scale, focusing on the parts of A Fire Upon the Deep, that frankly, I was less engaged with. It's a fun read, but not a patch upon his earlier opus. I'm hoping this is part one of a trilogy, and the next two go to the places I miss.

Ponyo is very good, and your daughter, depending on her age will absolutely love it. I have three, and my youngest is actually quite reminiscent of Ponyo herself, which was even observed by her older sisters! Howl was okay, but it and Arriety are both weaker Miyazaki movies in my book.
-
Why? Because they know it's the most popular scale for model builders. I'm happy, it will fit in with the rest of my collection.

What wm_cheng has been up to lately...
PetarB replied to wm cheng's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Great news. Bummed about the exteriors. The one weakness of the Transformers design was that they made the exteriors too busy. When translated into movement, it actually produced a real mess onscreen - there were no visual tells for the viewer to understand which limb belonged to whom. I hope we won't see the same in the Pacific Rim designs, but I'll take what I can get. I understand why they were done from a concept design though, adding mindless 'detail' is a quick way to add scale and sophistication to a design when you're under deadline pressure. -

Pacific Rim concepts please. I'm being a little cheeky I know! Love your work as always. That attack copter was really quite cool. I love the Resident Evil series for what they are, a little bit of mindless fun! -

Hmmm, thanks to whoever resurrected this old thread. Amazing work. -
The box art is really quite nice - usually I trim these out and mount them for the man cave.

I have purchased Newca's previous VF-1 upgrade sets, and they are fantastic. I'll be grabbing this one as well...

It was clear just from looking at it that this was a custom. And it's great work.

Macross II: Valkyrie VF-2SS scratch build plans need help.

What scale are you planning on doing? -
That looks fantastic Dobber. And I really like the sculpt of this, except for some of the panel lines which are a bit wonky (nothing to do with you though!). CANNOT wait to see your VF-2SS. Hope you've got a replacement canopy....

Wow, ambitious build. But you've made a fantastic start. Don't forget internal reinforcements, it looks a little light and you'll be kicking yourself later if you leave them out...

I never really wanted to be a dad, says me, father of 3 little girls! When my first child sat down with me and watched a Hayao Miyazaki movie, was enthralled, and wanted more... I realised there are some things that transcend generations, boundaries, and emotions. You have some amazing times to look forward to. Remember, what you put in now for the next dozen years or so will pay huge dividends when she's older. Best wishes, and congratulations!

Some one on this forum is actually working on this movie - designing some of the hardware! Hopefully he will drop by and share his experiences soon... Could we get some, ahem, concept art? Or any other production art would be fantastic if possible, although I know the strict conditions you have to work under. You know who you are!
