All I can say is - if my girlfriend wanted to dress up as a girl from Macross II, I'd probably become a Macross II fan a lot faster ... Anyways - we're off topic, aren't we?? Shouldn't we be bashing Robotech?? Here's my contribution to that effort: I've been reading Robotech.com on and off lately - far more than I ever did, thanks to this thread. And as I read the threads there I get the feeling I am reading ONE familiar thread from Macrossworld...which one? The Newbie thread. I see clearly the wisdom of having a newbie thread so that people who like Macross can discuss things about it without having to stop every five seconds to clarify basic things. Robotech.com looks like all of the threads are newbie threads ... Case in point: I enter the "macross southernpedia" forum, which is - according to the forum tag discusses: "Topics on the original Japanese Macross, Southern Cross, Mospeada" And therein I find somebody asks a question about a Destroid in Macross (without giving an episode number where the particular animation he's talking about occured - but fine, we'll let that slide)... [here's the thread I'm about to rant on: http://www.robotech.com/community/forum/re...&forumid=24] Other people start discussing this particular point and the issue of the extent to which UN Spacey controled the militaries of the world etc etc. Then, somebody says, matter-of-factly: Nani!?! I thought this was a topic dedicated to the original Macross, Mospedia and Southern Cross. HOW then can someone answer a question about a Destroid in Macross by referencing what happened to Zendradi after the battle with Boldoza and tying that in with "the creation of the Armies of the Southern Cross." Normally - you'd expect somebody to step in and say "wrong anime buddy." But then I realize that he's not talking about a Destroid in MACROSS having the word "US Army" written on its' leg - which I don't recall either...no...it's this: It's on the cover of a Robotech DVD!! WTF!! So - you open a thread in the Macross/Mospedia/Southern Cross section dedicated to a question about the animation on a Robotech DVD box --- and nobody tells you to take it to the Robotech forum?? Instead - they apparently think that THIS CONSTITUTES A DISCUSSION OF MACROSS! Because - you know -Macross is part of Robotech. It's the Macross Sage. So we're discussing the original Macross - DUH! .... Moving on... Well... dag. Not much to see. It's like most of the threads that have more than 10 posts are of somebody asking a question like "So, in Robotech the Protoculture is a flower, and in Macross it's a theory of evolution?" and then SETO having to explain things to people Anyways - there. I'm back on topic at least! Pete

Thank you for that heart moving story Brother Robelwell202!! Now let's sing some of that good ol' time religion music!! PRAISE THE NAME OF OUR WISE LEADER SETO! Out of the emptiness, Salvation! (Salvation!) Rhythm and light and sound It 'twas the Rock & Roll creation It 'twas a terrible big bang It 'twas the ultimate mutation Ying was searching for his yang And he looked and he saw that it was good When I'm alone beneath the stars and feeling insignificant I turn within to see the forces that created me I look to the stars and the answer is clear I look in the mirror and see what I fear It 'tis the Rock & Roll creation It 'tis the absolute rebirth It 'tis the rolling of the ocean And the rocking of the earth And I looked and I saw that it was good Pete Officially Announcing that Spinal Tap does the religious music in our Seto Cult

No - but that sure as hell had to be the Freudian slip of the century up there I think my slip up was caused by a malfunction in my brain - like when you change the language key on your computer, hit a button and something other than what you thought comes out... I don't But maybe that's because I live in Eastern Europe and have had my fill of cute girls trying to speak english to me and inevitably having that "Eastern European accent." I dunno... I don't get a kick out of it. They sound so much better in their original language. Plus - if you don't understand their original language, there's always the side benefit of never having to really listen to what they're saying Pete

Exactly - and I just noticed that I did indeed write "Meryl Streep" when all the time I was thinking "Melanie Griffith." I swear I was not drunk, on drugs or in any other way mentally hampered. I have absolutely no clue why I did that - TWICE. TWICE. Honest to gosh. Not joking here. Aliens did it. Pete

I agree with your logic. "Resistence leaders" are a dime a dozen really. Terminator has a bit of a romantic pretence. Like, if George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison and John Adams were all killed during the American revolution - there would be nobody to write the constitution, create the republic etc. Well -actually no. If you look at the debates in the constitutional convention - there was a large number of intelligent people there who all had a hand in it, and absent these now historically renowned individuals, certainly something similar would have arisen. Same with John Conor...or so one might think. But here's where Terminator 4 held out a lot of (wasted) promise. The opening of T4 said that John Conor was seen by some as a "false prophet." Not THIS is truly interesting - and think about it: what made John Conor critical to the resistence? The fact that he KNEW. That he had more advanced knowledge due to his experiences than the rest of humanity. That's it. And he was the ONLY one (save his wife) who knew. Now - does this knowledge in any way become critical to the resistence at some point? Does John's experience with Terminator from T2 and T3 somehow impact the future? We don't know. Sky Net somehow assumes it does. In fact - it could be argued that Sky Net really creates John Conor's power by giving him the forenknowledge of what is to come. My theory is that Sky Net can't eliminate John Conor because sub-consciously Sky Net wants an equal: a time traveling sentient being who see more than the regular humans. Otherwise - Sky Net would be lonely. What Terminator really has yet to explore is just who Sky Net is. And I use "who" consciously - because Sky Net is not an "it" - Sky Net is a self-aware intelligent device. Sky Net has personal thoughts of some sort...we just don't know what they are, what does Sky Net want (beyond self-preservation?). Lots of unanswered questions in the Terminator universe. Lots and lots. Pete -
Yeah but Pam Gidley gets defeated by vast amounts of dish washing detergint early in the movie - so she doesn't really count! Pete

But this is actually true. Let me elaborate one why it is that you are now a Cult leader. Every time you write something about Macross or Robotech, you write clearly, you give reasons, you cite sources, and you then give your conclusions, trying to present them logically. If someone were to disagree with you, they would have to refute your reasons, shed doubt on your sources, negate your conclusions, and present this counte-view logically. However - since none of the Robotech people ever write clearly, give reasons, cite sources or argue their conclusions logically, they are incapable of mounting any sort of effective counter-argument. Therefore - they believe that ANYBODY who gives reasons, cites source and presents logical conclusions is using MAGIC. Seto Magic. It's the mystical cult magic of Setoism. It builds an impenetrable wall around opinions by buffering them with reason, logic, sources, fact-checking, and - worst of all - generally good writing skills. Anyone whose writing uses these things is therefore clearly a cultist. There don't necessarily have to be any back-and-forth letters demonstrating how you give people orde3rs or talking points. Rather - people see your methodology and for some batsh!t reason are attracted to it. If only you would stop posting your knowledge, then Robotech fans could go back to living in a hazy world where "anime" means Star Trek, only in cartoon form, and 'Japanese anime' means pornography with gay people and pre-pubescent girls. See - the easiest way to defeat you would be to refute your arguments. But since they can't do that, they ban you. And since you won't go away and are persistent, then they must label you a cult leader and all of us your followers because otherwise they would actually have to confront your writings. Pete

My first VF-OA with ghost booster's foot cracked, arm broke off and shoulder exploded. Then a pre-recorded message activated which said "Hah hah. You're screwed. Go buy me again." I did like it said - and my second VF-0A with ghost booster is in perfect condition. MY VF-OS is also perfect...save the computer panel I snapped off due to my being stupid. But super glue keeps it on. In any case - I really love these valks. Pete

Are snuggies those things I read about that are all the rage now for Christmas...what was it....a blanket with sleeves? American ingenuity -- once it was cars that could traverse entire continents, jets that could make the world small and take you anywhere, space shuttles that flew to the moon and back. Now it's a fcuking blanket with sleeves! so sad Anyways.... what's the difference between a snuggie and a bath robe that happens to be made out of warm material? And to keep it on topic: How long is the SDF-1? Pete

Actually...the panacea of Terminator- for me - has always been the following "What If?" scenario: What if, in T1, Kyle hadn't gotten shot - and everything else happened as we saw it up to the point where the T-800 endo-skeleton rises from the ashes? Answer: Due to its' limp -the T-800 would never catch our heroes, who - quickly realizing the Terminator's handicap, would go "nya nya nya nya nya!" and point fingures and make fun of it as it limped around, completely unable to capture them. Of course, it could technically sit down and try to perform maintenence on its' leg or ankle or whatever it was that caused the limp .... we saw him do it earlier with his eye and his arm. But let's assume for a moment that the damage was permanent. That the repair of the damage would require the creation of spare parts - which in turn would require a complex process. In this case - the Terminator could be put in a zoo with a Sarah Conor effigy just outside its' reach, spinning round on a crane, so that whenever Terminator would limp over to it on the left, the crane would raise it and put it down to his right - 10 meters away, with the following sound track playing into eternity: "Dies metros! calmete! calmete!" "At least you could have the guts, to look 'em in th eye when you kill him. You gotta hide with that thing..." "Muevete! MUEVETE!!" "Who do you think I am?! You think I kill a woman and two children..." Pete -
I love it I love the fact that there's even debate as to whether or not this is the end of the decade That's great!! Pete

Something did come out of it. Rex said "yatsu bla bla concerto" --"we're going to that guys concert." I think Basara went out on that scooter to show them that he had enough respect for their gang ethos to get on a motobike and ride into oncoming traffic - just like them. The unspoken question was: "Look, I respect you and can ride a bike just as good as you. Do YOU have the courage to come to my concert and see what I do?" And it worked - because Rex reacted by taking the unspoken invitation. Agreed. Space cars and bridges over space were one of my favorite parts about M7....not used very much - but certainly a great thing to imagine. I don't remember it - but then again, truth be told I don't even remember what the exact definition of Anime Spiritia is. So... I guess we'll watch and learn Pete

Because then we wouldn't have gotten to see Arnold speaking in the voice of a woman saying "I love you too, sweet heart." Simple. It certainly sounds very logical. And also tragic.... Pete -
They're already out The "up with Sheryl's boobs" battlecry was based on Asuka Langley's lecture on Thermal Expansion from Neon Genesis Evangelion Err...I mean... YES, MY MASTER. Well - the thing is - I'm jealous of RT fans who are jealous of Macross fans that only exist in their heads. I mean - think about it. Supposedly, according to those Robotech fans, I have a harem of 13 year old girls, I have no opinions of my own except what Seto tells me, I mindlessly hate the greatest show human beings ever made (Robotech), and I am likely a gay pedophile. Sounds like fun to me! Too bad my real life is no where near that exciting. Young girls, cults, legions of groupies - a sense of brotherhood and kinsmanship - part of a marauding army... It would be great. Instead, I'm just a nobody who like Macross.... Bummer. This is why I figured it would be fun to live up to the hype about "Macross groupies" - it just sounds like so much fun.... Dag. Red2Alpha was right- we shouldn't talk about this film...'cause it was a cool action flick But yeah..the more one actually thinks about it... This is something I also considered - namely...why does Sky Net find itself bound by the time line? It's like- ok - it sent Arnold back to 84 - failed. So...what? It can't try again ad infinitum until it succeeds? Like - you can only go back in time to point X ONCE...after that you can only go back in time to point Y? The Marcus ploy is all initiated due to failure of earlier time travel ploys... but that's kind of wierd. It's like- well....why are you bound by what happened in T1? Can't you re-do it? That said - from the point of view of the Marcuss story itself - abstracted from the question of how pointless it seems - I do like the story. I like the salvation angle that is. But I don't really understand Arnold in T4. I mean - do all the T-800s look like Arnold? That's kind of stupid. I mean - at least the one in T2 had a different hair cut Oh wait...then there's T3. Hundreds of Arnolds... How is that "infiltration" ? This is a problem that kind of runs through the movies... Pete -
Personally, I don't suffer from the "must build all MGs" syndrome - and I'm very much looking forward to building the HG Unicorns and Kyshatoria (sic?). Actually - I'd like to build some other HG Gundams as well. I think that the lack of an inner frame gives me more creative license in terms of touching up the outer portions of the HG because I never have to worry about "what will happen to my touch up job if I want to remove the armor" - it's just there. As for PGs - again - I will try. Maybe a PG Zeta would be good, since it is transformable and would therefore look good with my 1/60 Yammies. In either case, for now, I'm Gundamed out after three in a row... just gotta finish poor ol' Exia off I might do the blue frame Astray when I finally have it (this week probably) ... but I might just as well let it sit there and collect dust. I'm still heart broken over my 1/72 Alto who's gone and lost three crucial shoulder pieces and therefore is stuck in building limbo... Oh well... That's teach me to panel line with anything but a technical pencil (I f-ed up the panel lining on the undercarriage with a non-ersable marker and IMO that cursed the whole project...I tried to smudge it -- like to make weathering...but then it looked like...well...f-ed up SMUDGED panel lines ) ... I guess I was meant to have only one perfectly build 1/72 Messiah - that being the S type. Um...but...yeah..Gundams are great - but I like to play with the ones I already built rather than turn into a Chinese one-man factory and build non-stop Pete

Post #1160: "A muskmelon is what most people in the states mistakenly call a canteloupe" = "I did call the cantaloupe a muskmelon" ? Hail Seto, down with HG, up with Sheryl's Boobs. Pete

I guess I'm not a Macross groupie, because I don't hang out at a website called RobotechX and I have no clue who JT is. Then again, I haven't gotten my Orders in from SETO yet. I sure wish Master Seto would see fit to give me some assisgnment, but I'm happy to just be able to agree with him all the time and I trust his judgement 100%. He did, after all, write the original treatment for SDFM TV, he illustrated all of DYRL single handedly, and he owns the Macross II intellectual property rights. Which brings me to another point: Why waste time on putting forward reality-based arguments with these people? Wouldn't it be funner to just have Seto post something and then have ten people follow up with "Exactly" "yes" "Well put" and continue that forever? And Seto wouldn't even have to post anything meaningful. Just make crapshoot arguments - like for instance here are some: Macross is better than Robotech because Macross features music by Bruce Springstien and U2 Macross is also cooler than Robotech because Optimus Prime makes a cameo in the original Japanese show, and is voiced by Peter Cullen. Macross is cooler than Robotech because not only are there no gay people in the show, but - more importantly, and in contrast to Robotech's production team - no gay people worked on Macross. Macross is cooler than Robotech because in the sequal to Macross, Macross II, they DO show what happened to the SDF-3 I hope you see where this is going? Robotech fans keep making arguments that are about as meaningful as the sounds made by a cat after you step on its' tail. Why not just stop wasting our time and fight back with some of the same. Clearly these guys are NOT reading Seto's well reasoned views and not responding to them on their merits. So...fight stupid with stupid I say. and have fun doing it Pete

That is a sign of the best thing about this passing decade - namely the eruption of freedom in our world. In the XXth century, huge oligopolistic centers of information told us what we should call historical events, how we should categorize decades and years. Court historians and the mainstream media made up the words that defined complex events - and therefore, in the minds of human beings - made those events seem less complex and made everyone thing about the past in simple terms. This new decade has seen the internet and a general decentralization of information destroy the old consensus about even simple things like "what should we call this decade?" (or "what should we call this economic crisis?"). It has led to the truth that there is no "we" - only lots of indviduals who often have different opinions and views - all of which can co-exist and show us something interesting and meaningful. So - yay 2000-2010 for having NO common denominators and smashing the stale tradition of listening to elites who make them up for "us." .... And now on to the list: Best/Worst Anime (film/TV series/OAV) - BEST ANIME - Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya WORST ANIME - Who knows? Shadow Chronicles isn't an anime in my book, so I can't nominate it.... Best/Worst Manga - Beats me...I haven't read any Best/Worst SF (film/TV series) - BEST SF - Umm...hmmmmmmmmmmmmm...umm...hmmmmmmm....Revenge of the Sith? Umm...I dunno...ok - yeah. Revenge of the Sith... WORST SF - Umm...hmmmmmmm...I don't really have a candidate for this....I find even the worse SF enjoyable... * Most annoying trend in Anime - NOT ENOUGH EROTIC CONTENT!! I mean - seriously! The Japanese are such mega prudes!! We wanna see Alto and Sheryl seriously making out!! Not this stupid touchy feely blushy crap. Best comeback - Transformers (the first movie). Hey - it's a comeback - after the 1986 fiasco and the ups and downs of the TF franchise - love it or hate it - it was a big success and all told a decent flick. I'll give them props for that one. * Most disappointing comeback - ROTF - after pride cometh the fall. * Best/Worst Game of the decade - All I played was Go Fish with my girlfriend and her daughter on a train...so...I'm not in a good position to judge this. * Most consistent game developer - Uhh...nice weather we've got today....moving on... Which product do you really wish had not turned out to be vapourware? - The Transformers Movie toys - both 2007 and ROTF. A crushing dissapointment. * Most Unnecessary *Remake - Batman 1 million? Sorry, but I liked Rocky Balboa and probably will like Rambo when I get around to seeing it...I never liked Batman except the comic books and the one with Arnold because I love Arnold in anything. Sequel - ROTF * Greatest addition to your toy/model/DVD collection - My (ex?) girlfriend. Never had so much fun and joy with anything else in my whole life! She made this a memorable decade! * What is the piece of technology that you have now which was not available at the start of the decade that you cannot do without? -- My touch screen phone!! I LOOOOVE touch screen mobile phones!! They are just so fun!! And I love all the stuff my phone can do - the internet connection, the camera function, the tape recorder, the inter-acting with my laptop thing... It's all so superfluous yet helpful at the same time! * Best/Worst Band/Album/Live performance - Hmm....Britney Spears Train Wreck "Let's Wiggle the Fat Slabs around our Tushes" ? * What do you think is going to be the most inaccurate SF prediction about life in 2010? That's easy: the notion that the economy will recover. 2010 will see: 1 USD = 40 JPY US unemployment at 15% The World abandoning the USD as a reserve currency (not clear as to what will replace it, if anything - probably there won't be a reserve currency as such - but that's a tougher call) * Person of the decade (NO politicals) I agree - no politician ever deserves to be "person of the" anything anyways So... I nominate GUBABA! Why? Because he translated My Fair Minmey and is now translating a book about Misa! To me - that is enough to garner him Person of the Decade status! * Where do you think you will be at the end of next decade? Either I will be rich and happy in Poland or poor and happy back in the USA. * Complete the following sentence. "I will be much happier next decade if..........." If I continue to enjoy good health - which is the most imortant thing in life and makes all other wants and worries possible. Pete
