Macross Frontier Episode 9 Talkback Thread *READ 1st Post*
VFTF1 replied to azrael's topic in Movies and TV Series
Just watched 9 and 10 Shinsen. Thoughts on 9: A slow moving, dark piece about a very sad past. This episode could well branch out into its' own mini-series - a wonderful cult noir detective flick about what really happened in the incident with Michel's sister? Perhaps it will be revealed later, or perhaps this arc will slowly but surely also gain speed - but if it is going to be a "stand alone" episode; a sad background painting to fill out Michel's character; that's fine -although indeed it is a big departure from the feeling and mood of the last episodes. The exchange with Klan Klan is also somewhat - odd - I understand that the two are close and grew up together; but because we really don't know much about either one, and there has been no focus on either of them - their melodramatic quarrel/slap scene came across - well - extremely melodramatic. It kind of reminded me of the scene in the new Sex and the City Movie, when Big has already driven away from the wedding, and passes Carries' limo -and the two get out - and she freaks and smashes flowers over his head while he looks like a puppy who just got castrated, and then that brunette screams "NO! JUST NO!" ---- which given the context: aka these rich people really have nothing better to get heart-attacks over?... actually makes the whole scene comedic. That was my reaction; and quite a few people in the theater baulled with laughter at this scene too. Perhaps if the characters were more fleshed out (and I guess fans of the entire series might have seen it that way), it would have been moving - but as such it was two rich people having a hissy fit and ending like the sky is falling over nothing really... In M:Frontier - it was just two background characters suddenly having a heated exchange...ok... that's a bit random. On the other hand; I'm being overly critical. Since "little is known" about them; then it would make sense to give them more screen time and a back story- which is what this episode does. I guess it's just I get the feeling that the writers thought "ok! It's time for Michel to get some backstory and development which we haven't been giving him over the last 8 episodes - so let's throw it all into episode 9!" ... I prefer if it's spread out more... I also honestly don't undestand why in the world the "If I slept with you I would be arrested for having sex with a minor" line even made it in there. The premise is just ridiculous. Young girls try to buy beer or smokes all the time and they get IDed - and lots of times a chick who looks 13 is 18 or 21... With improvements in healthcare, fitness, aerobics, and a trend towards taking care of our bodies; lots of people really are "not looking their age" - fashion also helps... Klan is not a minor. Klan is a grown woman. She looks like a minor in myclone mode - but nobody's going to arrest Mikhael... I guess he was just making a joke - a cruel joke - to hurt Klan's feelings - since she probably myclonizes to socialize with the humans - and suddenly intsead of a beautiful woman she's a bit of a "freak" - so I guess Mikheal said that to be a jerk. And Klan was right to slap...him...sort of...his VF's.."face" What else? Not much to say. Film noir. Film noir. Get Sam Spade on the dead sister story pronto! VFTF1 -
Bobby is going to end up with Philipino Rick Hunter who will be introduced in later episodes. VFTF1

Nanase will end up being with Ozma. Mark my word As uncanny as it sounds - think about it - they would be perfect together VFTF1

Well - my girlfriend will never watch the entire series. She does buy me toys though; but that's cause she loves me - not cause she understands me So when I had the chance to show her something from Macross, I showed her two things: a) a still screen cap from SDF TV when Hikaru and Misa embrace in the cockpit of Hikaru's Valkyrie upon seeing the Macross touching down on earth after the battle with Boldoza. I showed this to her because it just so happens that (honest to God), my girlfriend looks a lot like Misa Hayes (not a coincidential pick on my part!) and although I'm a bit chubbier, taller and certainly older, I guess I could pass for a Hikaru impersonator - especially if you drank some beer....ok lots of beer... Anyways - she agreed that Hikaru and Misa looked a lot like us - so I was pleased. b) Pine Apple salad - I specifically showed this "traumatic" episode to her because she isn't at all an anime fan, and actually never in her life watched cartoons - except very basic Communist era-cartoons which, despite their sometimes being charming, were no where as sophisticated as the Japanese anime... so I showed her Pine Apple Salad as a window into a world she COMPLETELY doesn't know AT ALL - and I figured that given the serious tone of the episode, the fact that a hero dies, and the emotions shown in the episode, it would be a better start than something where there's lots of shooting - although...I guess Pineapple Salad had lots of action anyways... c) I have also been successful in getting her to listen to Bassara and Minmey sing. MP3 Soundwave is good for that - we were sitting around with her daughter trying to piece togetehr a puzzle of cats and dogs (we failed!)...and I transformed MP3 Soundwave into robot mode to sit next to her - so she decided to have a listen, and was particularly moved by Minmey. She said Minmey's music was "hypnotic" - in the positive sense... as for Fire Bomber - she enjoyed everything except Totsugeki Love Heart; which she claims sounds "violent" (which it totally isn't - but if you realize that she's into soft rock and Jazz then you could kind of see how Totsugeki Love Heart's fast pace would sound "violent")... So that's the high and low of it One day - I will of course maneuver her into watching all of M7 and eating only Pizza and drinking lots of beer with me for a week straight Well..maybe for an hour straight... she has this "I'm a woman and have to look good and act feminine" thing...not that I'm complaining about that - but she's just not a "chum around with" girl - more a woman with a soft spot for crazy people like me VFTF1

Yes, but I wrote interested in someone "as wierd as' Alto The idea being that since I could be considered wierd, then a girl who is interesting in "wierd people" "like Alto" would concievably be interested in me Speaking of which - I showed my girlfriend one episode of SDF Macross TV - Pineapple Salade; and while she enjoyed it very much, he main comment was "wow! They have super hair!" (this about Roy and Hikaru).... This was interesting VFTF1

Poll: Which episode of Macross Frontier has been the best so far?
VFTF1 replied to taksraven's topic in Movies and TV Series
What I find interesting is the relatively high positions of episode 1 and 10 Now- I haven't seen 10 yet; don't know any thing about it other than the title and don't wanna know - maybe it's great, but maybe that's also the "Wow this last episode was the best!" syndrome speaking (after seeing episode 4, for example, I couldn't imagine anything better coming along...and then along came five..) But it's interesting to see First Encounter with such a relatively high score. I assume the majority of us have seen it; and if First Encounter is getting a higher score than so many of the other - "better" (IMO) episodes - that says something... Namely that Macross Frontier started off great and then went down hill? Is that what the poll is communicating? Just wondering - for all those who voted First Encounter- why? I didn't really notice a strong impetus for it in the thread, and I am curious... ? VFTF1 -
I would just like to point out that in the G1 Cartoon, Jetfire was a Decepticon for some time - and his color scheme remained unchanged. So I never saw the point in the "evil Jetfire" repaints VFTF1

Which is your favorite character from Macross Frontier so far?
VFTF1 replied to Kronnang Dunn's topic in Movies and TV Series
Dag... I should'a thought of that when making "Robotech: Frontier"... They would change Alto into a woman character and just call her Pat "Dad wanted me to be a good girl and a house wife, but I put on a pair of pants, went to school, and dreamed of being a fighter pilot! But why won't these two lesbians leave me alone!?" VFTF1 -
1/60 perfect transforming vf-1 from yamato?
VFTF1 replied to Shaggydog's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
I'm against locking the chest piece of the YF-19. I'm against locking any thing because it will wear and snap eventually and that will really suck. Yamato products are not made to battle your Hasbro Optimus Prime on the carpet but to be high quality accurate representations of complex real robot mecha. I think that would only prompt them to laugh. Bandai will never "beat" Yamato in the VF-1 realm. Yamato has won that battle. Yamato is the first ever company to develop perfect Transformation. Bandai didn't even try. Bandai will - I hope - to a great job with the VF-25; and perhaps they will use some things which Yamato doesn't and Yamato can learn from it. But let's give credit where credit is due: the perfect Transformation Valkyrie was the result of Yamato's efforts. VFTF1 -
While I'm not a fan of Macross 7......(Macross F)
VFTF1 replied to ShizumaRobo's topic in Movies and TV Series
That Macross 7 picture is interesting for many reasons - the greatest amongst them being that Gamlin dresses up as Doctor Who for his wedding! Nice to see he developed a sense of humor VFTF1 -
If I told you guys once, I told you a million times... Bassara shows up, jams on his guitar and the beauty-men leave their crab shells and all hold hands. I am not kidding - that is how Frontier ends. I don't want to spoil any more of it by speaking to the issue of what happens to the rest of the cast - but it is Nekki Bassara who saves the universe. This is true. I remember when I made Valkyrie princess out of various different Revoltechs, people on my local fan forum were like "how could you mangle your Revoltechs by taking them apart like that!?" They don't seem to realize that often times you are SUPPOSED to removed parts in order to safely manipulate the Revoltech joint for some great pose. I have to agree that GNU just doesn't cut the mustard...or something to that effect. That said - don't worry Yamato! I'm not even close to bothering with Revoltech YF-21 and 19 because I'm still scraping up money for your 1/60 21 and am also aiming to get your 1/60 VF-1S! And don't worry Kayodo: although not getting any more of your Macros Valks, I am getting about a zillion OTHER Revoltech figures VFTF1

Which is your favorite character from Macross Frontier so far?
VFTF1 replied to Kronnang Dunn's topic in Movies and TV Series
I don't remember if I responded in this thread - which is strange since I usually have a decent memory and if I contradict myself then I do it consciously rather than as a result of memory loss... but oh well...here goes... This is a really tough call! Above all, more than any of the other Macross series/OVAs - Frontier seems to LIVE on Character interaction. There really isn't any marked "first tier" of characters - there's not even a "star" like Hikaru... because honestly Alto is just one of many characters who gets focus... Focus is evenly split, and the characters progress together, working off one another to an extent unseen in previous Macross sagas... (although of course character interaction was always vital in all of them, it seems exessively pronounced here)... But look - seriously - who is the male lead in Frontier? Alto? Alto gets - generally speaking - as much development as Micheal or Luka or Ozma - really - maybe not "screen time" (although I haven't counted), but development certainly - at least that's the sense I get. Who is the main female lead? Ranka and Sheryl? But Nanase is equally important - Klan Klan is more backgroundish, I'll grant that - but in general the girls seem to work off eachother. Certainly Nanaese plays a bigger role than Minmey's "girlf friends" who were mainly there to giggle with her when they turned the corner to find Roy waiting for them (smoking! yehaw!).... Err...but that's niether here nor there... I really like Alto - I like him more than Hikaru because Alto gets picked on and isn't TREATED like a hotshot - even though he IS a hotshot... he's got spunk and determination, a sense of right and wrong, and he's slowly becoming a good guy for Sheryl - although I must admit he acts all choked up over Ranka - it's kind of like Alto acts towards Ranka like Minmey towards Hikaru ("oh forget all those feelings I seemed to have for you back then! Tee hee!")..... Hmm...hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm........ I can certainly tell you who I don't like!....Gundam Man, or Henry..Neelson?...What was his blasted name?...Harold? Franko? El Tongue? Basket Head? Brown Nose? Suck Up? Honestly- his name escapes me although it was very distinct... Oh - now I know! My favorite character is the Captain of the Neo-Macross, because HE knows how to treat Bridge Bunnies (and they like it!) No...that's a pretty banal reason to designate him a favorite character...hmm.... I like Bassara and pink bunnies... Doesn't really matter though..hmm.... Good God - I simply can't pick one! They're all adorable! I like each of them for distinctly different reasons! Egads! What a perfect anime series! Leon! That's his name - I don't like Leon - but he's kind of like Sentinel Prime in Animated: the guy we love to hate - made specifically to make us grind our teeth (ow - bad sound in the brain that)... Sorry - I tried - as you can see - I really tried to name a favorite character. My only hope is that somewhere early in this thread I blurted out something to the extent of "I love Ranka!" --and I can fall back on that VFTF1 -
The actual content of the blogs is less interesting than the fact that the blogs exist VFTF1

VFTF1 replied to Shaggydog's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
And don't forget to include poseable Minmey, Hikaru, Misa, and others figures. Also play setand dioramas ... In all honesty - some nice low priced diaoramas to go with our high priced Valks would be nifty VFTF1 -
Yes I have plenty of cows around here because I spend half my life on a farm So women who like big animals that say Moooo!! are a must VFTF1

LIVE ACTION ROBOTECH (WB gets the rights)
VFTF1 replied to UN Spacy's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
So basically "Robotech" the Live Action movie will be a glorified version of Captain Power? I can see them bringing Britnay Spears in to play the "idol" - she needs some work, probably can still sing, could be back in shape relatively quickly given her age and a good work out program... Britnay! This is your chance! Toby Macguire as Rick Hunter doesn't really work - except in one way: It will just CEMENT the idea that whenever Americans get their hands on something great and Japanese; they inevitably screw it up So - I hope to see Toby as "Rick Hunter" - although it'll probably be more like Hick Gunther .... Of course - I actually think that Holywood would go for the Invid over the Zendradi. The whole concept of giant humanoid clones just like us getting influenced by music just won't fly... I think if they want to make it true to Robotech - they need mindless aliens and mindless action and scenes that have little if anything to do with one another. In fact -maybe the best thing they could do, in making the Robotech movie - is take a play from the Classic Robotech Handbook. Take some scenes from Bay's Transformers, then trhough in some scenes from Independence day and Enter the Dragon. Have Brazillians do the voice-over dubs. Mix in Britney Spears music videos and throw in Ricky Martin as Roy Fokker for good measure. And there is Robotech VFTF1 -
I guess my reaction is highly colored by Macross 7. In Macross 7, Bassara WASN'T held in high regard - sure, initially the military invested time and effort in him and into Chiba's Sound Energy theory, but as it became aparent that Bassara had his own agenda, and that his one true Tosugheki Love heart beat to its' own tune and wasn't about to be ordered around - I think the military stopped caring as much about what could happen to him. Sheryl, on the other hand, was treated like, and acted like, a typical celebrity - aka - sure, a VIP - but not REALLY all that concerned or passionate or even CONSCIOUS of what was going on around her. I guess I "expected" too much from her - due to Bassara being so heroic and wonderful - I just figured the next Macross Idol would be as well.. But she acted a bit more like Myung would have; or that entire entourage: the cynicism and fakeness rather than the heart and soul But I got over it since she digs an up in the air wierdo like Alto, cows, and runs round without her panties - all traits I desire in a woman. While I'm not a fan of Macross 7......(Macross F)
VFTF1 replied to ShizumaRobo's topic in Movies and TV Series
You know what will really happen is that without the leather and boobs, no body - not even the Vajra beauty men - is gonna want to listen to Sheryl's sub-par renditions of her songs. Ranka is the one true sing-from-the-heart artist - and it will be her songs that triumph:) VFTF1 -
And the most logical (Mylene coming back) - given her young age. They could do a duet concert and then have a picnic! VFTF1

Ok - fun is fun - but I have to sternly protest this gross, disgusting rumor that keeps circulating on the web. Spinal Tap IS a real band. People like you just keep ruining their chances for making a living because every time they are on the verge of a come back, some dork comes out with "they're not real." They ARE real! They even had a ROCK-U-MENTARY!!! HEEEELLLLOOOO!!!!! Not to mention their charitable work at Live 8, and the fact that Metallica even acknowledged that they were the first real Metal Band. Sheesh. 1/60 perfect transforming vf-1 from yamato?
VFTF1 replied to Shaggydog's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
I dunno guys. I think the left side cover is slightly off. Line Art is at a 45.79924 degree angle on the adjustment plateau radius B - otherwise ther space fold hyper wear booster wouldn't have enough inertia to vector the throttle stabilizer planes. Kawamorii has written only - what - seven tomes on this important aspect of the VF-1, and it was clearly evident in the special Malaysian edition of DYRL DVD "special engineering outtakes" (version 3.0, not to be confused with the Fugamori DVD release). So basically, Yamato has screwed up AGAIN! VFTF1 -
You mean Sheryl and Ranka AREN'T REAL?? But they have blogs! VFTF1

No no no no... Sheryl's Valkyrie will have a special "Panty Attack" In Battloid mode, it shoot Zendradi Panties (with "From Sheryl with Love" written on them) at the Vajra, who will suddenly beging to marvel at the wonders of modern fashion, give up fighting and go shopping with Klan Klan VFTF1 -
If he has a spare 3,100 USD to put down on that, then basicalyl 3,100 USD has to be like chump change for him After all - most of us can and do spend sums of money like that - but not on this...we would say "gee, for three thousand bucks you could geta collection of 1/48s, a lot of SOCs etc etc" But if our monthyl operating budget on discretionary hobby spending was - say - 50,000 USD rather than, say, one thousand USD... then suddenly putting 3 thousand down on this is the equivalent of you or me buying a pack of gum because it has Ranka on it VFTF1
