You mean like this; http://su27projekt.phpbuero.de/seite8.htm http://su27projekt.phpbuero.de/seite1.htm Be warned. This site is 50+ pages long and damn impressive work the entire length of the project.

This episode has nothing to do with that. Where is the talking computer and the recon mission?
-
That's not what it's supposed to look like. There was a machining error in what I had the software cut. I removed the wall behind the thrustor and the tool went all the way to the bottom of the part. Since the tool was tapered the hole got all wonked out.

Not really. I would make as many parts as are necassary. I wan't it variable you know. I don't have any more of that Valkyrie to play with so I am going to do a 737 in HO for a co-worker.
-
Yes, yes. I know already. It would be quite the waste to run tests on Ren before I have the process figured out. The problem with Ren is that the router is having a hard time with the dense foam. And the fact the foam soaks up primer isn't a problem. I sanded that first test smooth already.

Kevin Sorbo on Galactica. Won't happen if good taste is allowed to prevail on the show.
-
Oh dear god no. That would make me get a gun and cross the border.
-
I was thinking of that but I wan't to give it a gentle sanding before I do that.

The nose turned out super sweet. I'll have to take some shots when I get home. Hopefully I'll have time before my sci-fi model club meeting. The modeled scribe lines faintly show up! I don't know if they'll show up in the photo but it's so cool.

We got the CNC router going again. I'm cutting a large version of Rodavan's Valk nose with .005" spacing. I can't wait to see how it turns out.
-
Oh. Just as I figure out how to use the darn CNC guess what happens? Yep. She's down for a couple of days while we fix a broken tie rod. And I was literally setting up to cut Rodavan's Valk nose.

1/35th scale monster! I think you need to learn how to weld alluminum.
-
They will have to go to the bottom of the "to do" pile.

Thanks Thor. I couldn't have said it better. What I have been playing with is being able to "trick" the CAM software into thinking that the polygon mesh is a nurbs model. Basically Rhino will define each triangle as a nurbs face. Not very efficient but it will get the job done fast with little effort on my part. To do a proper conversion I should be able to trace the polygon mech to make splines that I can then loft into a proper smooth nurbs surface. But that's a lot of work.
-
I'm just excited to have a new technique to play with.
-
Maybe I can have my cake and eat it too. There is a scale button in Rhino you know. And Nurbs are the best way to model for this kind of work. But it's hard to find nurbs models for free online. A co-worker is into trains and has wanted an HO scale 737 fuselage for a while. I found one online and have been able to get some tooling paths off of it. There's some wierdness that comes from Rhino's MeshtoNurbs command but it was a fairly successful test considering I spent 10 minutes on it. Right now I have that VF-4 info that was donated last year. I would love to work off of an existing mesh that has already had all the transformation proportions worked out for it. But that's getting ahead of myself. I still need to do a big Galactica kit.
-
I was hoping to do one in a scale not yet done. 1/24th was taken care of by Arii with thier toy/model. Now 1/18th has some merits...
-
I do need to get that Galactica stuff out of my system. I still need to make the big one though.
-
I have a couple of models donated for this process from last year when I was first thinking of doing this stuff. But hopefully I will be able to use any file format. Rhino has added some very robust mesh handling tools over the last year. As for pricing I would have to ask my bosses what they would want to charge for machine time. But I imagine some sort of shared entitlement agreement could be made.
-
That was the idea. At the very least it would be like Moscato's Legioss. It could be built in any mode you wanted. I think the trick for a variable kit would be metal hinge mechanisms. I know where to go for them but I haven't tried anything yet. For those who weren't here for the first attempt here is my Valkyrie page; http://home.comcast.net/~cobywan/Templates/VF.htm

Well I finally got the process of driving my work's DND router from a 3d model. I hope to start playing with free meshes to work out the conversion process. Once all that is in order I hope to go back to the 1/32nd scale Valkyrie project from square one. I figure using the CNC to generate the forms to detail will really make the process work out really great.

You know what? I have to keep track of a lot of things in life. I have to learn a lot all the time. I don't have the time, the need or the inclanation to learn a forien language. Especialy one as alien as the Asian languages. Not everyone in the world is such a fanboy about anime that they feel the need to learn Japanese. 325925 Q: what do you call someone who speaks three languages? A: Trilingual Q: what do you call someone who speaks two languages? A: Bilingual Q: what do you call someone who only speaks one language? A: American! 326033 You know what snarky? I haven't even learned to speak English well enough to move onto another language. You have to make choices as to what you are going to cram into your head in life and frankly I can live without reading Japanese. If you want to make the best of your time I would suggest you learn to read Chinese. It is going to be the language of business in the next 30 years.
