Thanks. Yeah, this one wasn't as bad. Less than $1K including the proxy bidder's fee. Btw, my MO is what most people end up resorting to. It's not perfect though since I lost a good lot of cels by not paying attention at the last minute.

Just awesome! There is nothing like a family reunion...

Coming soon: The return of the 1/72 SF-3A Lancer II
valkyrie13 replied to Valkyrie's topic in Model kits
Interested in one as well. -
Does any one have color schemes for the figure? Capt'n, are you planning to do regular (not commander type) zentradi soldiers again? or meltrandi soldiers? Regardless, do you have schematics showig the differences in uniform for Kamzin and the regular solider that one can use for modification?

I am breathless... Awesome work!

Capt'n, I can't seem to log on to Samurai-Monkey. I had to re-register but in the meantime, can you post the payment details here?

Thank you very much. Yes, I ended up bidding after all and won. Thanks for that info. I actually passed on that one. Was I that obvious? Thanks again. Here's another one that I picked up.

Actually, I thought it was sold at above 150,000 Yen. I remember bidding on it until the last minute at which point it exceeded my budget. I thought the buyer just flipped it and decided to resell. Maybe I am wrong. Yup, I got it. See below. Agreed. It is also pretty close to this other cel that I have. That is a very nice cel. Congratulations!

Awesome work as usual!

Those kits (or completed models) have been offered and sold before on Wonder Fest. One could find some of these pop up from time to time on Yahoo Japan Auction with a very high starting bid (sometimes over $1K). However, the website does note that it is based on a new mold.

I am keeping my tabs on it. I was quite surprised to see it offered with a starting bid of JPY10,000 (so low after it was offered with a starting bid of JPY150,000 last week). The seller may actually be smart to do this and get multiple bidders to drive up the price. I remember seeing that cel pop up and get snatched for a little over JPY100,000 2~3 years ago. Let's see how that one does this time. Well, if I don't win that one, I am not too disappointed since I have a similar cel that is about 1 or 2 shots around that one. There is also a nice FB2012 cel that is up for auction too.

Bandai 1/72 Scale Macross Frontier Plastic Models
valkyrie13 replied to Graham's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
It is true that the scale modeling industry has been struggling for quite some time and with all the new pastimes that are now available for the younger generation competing for time spent indoors (e.g., XBox and PS), it's not too surprising. However, the suspension of "Dengeki Scale Modeler" is not necessarily a true indication of where the industry is going since this magazine has not been around for too long. My take on it was Dengeki experimenting whether there is a market for this publication in light of the rekindled interest in scale modeling and I frankly don't know what the reason behind the suspension of publication is to comment on their decision. Notwithstanding, it is amazing how many die hard modelers are out there with a lot more dough to spend on modeling. Just think of all the aftermarket photoetch and metal parts that are newly being released, as well as the enormously wide range of items/products being produced by the Chinese model companies (e.g., Dragon, Trumpeter - albeit thanks to cheap labor). Back on topic, while it's true that having a plastic model kit to use as a base to build a decent model with modifications and aftermarket parts (as it sure beats scratch building or making resin kits), it is still a shame that we may not have a decent "scale" model that can be built straight out of the box. With that said, I'd like to reserve judgment until the kit is out on the market. Whether or not it is true to the world of modelers, I am pretty sure I am going to pick one of these up. -
Not entirely related to the topic of this thread but just in case not too many people know about this, there seems to have been a limited edition Klan Klan resin figure available at the Creators' Carnival on June 29, 2008. Below is a link to a Yahoo Japan Auction site that shows the item: http://page5.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/e83104151

My sentiments whole-heartedly... Amen! -
Bandai 1/72 Scale Macross Frontier Plastic Models
valkyrie13 replied to Graham's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Agreed. What made it worse I guess is that Bandai decided to make a "transforming" scale model. IMHO, that's an oxymoron. You don't "transform" models period. Bandai should have gone with a fighter and battroid modes separately like Hasegawa, giving the modelers a chance to buy 2 kits and to buy 2 more to chop up and build gerwalk modes. -

Based on the latest articles in Hobby Japan and Dengeki Hobby, I believe Bandai has announced that these 1/72 "model" kits will indeed be "snap-fit" just like GunPla. In fact, one of the articles noted that Bandai was ambitiously applying its accumulated know-hows from the evolution of GunPla to this kit, which Bandai was unable to do for the Macross 7 series of models. -

Well, what can you say? Bandai is a "Toy" company. Their attitude towards plastic "model" kits have always been to complement the toys that they produce and in my book, GunPla is just another unassembled toy. Of course, there are decent kits out there that can transform into a pretty good model but with a lot of modfications using putty, plastic strips and plates as well as aftermarket parts. I am sure that with enough demand and sales of these 1/72 kits when released that there would be aftermarket parts to convert them into a decent "static" model. -
Favourite Variable Fighter Mk. II
valkyrie13 replied to Sulendil Ang's topic in Movies and TV Series
Judging strictly from the mech design (although I also like the fact that Max and Milia are flying the VF-22), the VF-22 has a "cooler" head design compared to the YF-21. -
There is another fighter version of the VF-11 that was produced as a resin kit by Rettpu, the same company that manufactured the VF-11 battroid resin kits. They are long out of production and you can find them from time to time pop up on Yahoo Auction. I bought mine about 2 years ago and the last one I saw was about a year ago. The Club-M version was offered a month or so ago on Yahoo Auction. Not sure if it's still there. The starting price, however, was quite ridiculously high. For fans of VF-11 out there, I believe Valk009 was going to produce a resin recast (or perhaps, even retooled) fighter version of a VF-11 as his next project.

They are adorable and you are truly blessed. I just hope that my kids (daughter 5 1/2 and son 2 1/2) grow up to be fond of Macross as yours. Any tips?
