  1. Yeah I would really enjoy being able to go nuts customizing my ship with this saucer and that hull with those nacelles. Whee!
  2. I think those nacelles look silly because the Bussard collectors are tiny little pinpoints. The overall shape of them is nice, though. There's not a lot to choose from at Admiral level. You can use the Sovereign, or your choice of 5 other new designs. I like the Sov ok, but I like playing around with ship customization and seeing what sort of looks I can create. I like the sleek look of the Star Cruisers, but the other two Assault Cruiser designs (obviously Cryptic's) look like Fast and the Furious meets Star Trek. They have far too many winglets, gaps and protrusions. I'd like it if a more saucer-ish primary hull was available for the Star Cruiser. I chose the most saucer-y one. The other two choices are even more shovel-y.
  3. Today's glamor shots of the USS Clynelish
  4. Yeah, exploration badges are a great way to get some good solid Uncommon equipment. You can also get badges from PvP and spend them at Deepspace K7. Like Kai, I only got a set of weapons for each ship, at least until Admiral, where I've been grinding for things like consoles. I'm not going to bother with antiproton weapons, so I went with polarons. For some reason, it's really difficult to find tetryon beam arrays. I only got two ever, and they don't seem to sell them from any vendors at all.
  5. I think leveling is ok, given their assertion that they're designing for the casual gamer. However, I think that re-playing missions, where one might repeat something in order to help a lower level buddy, needs to give either zero or very low experience points. I also think Exploration missions should only reward the badges for equipment, and no skill points after you've done the first exploration mission for a given region. That would cut down on a huge amount of the skill points I got along the way. Here's my screenshots of the evening: Bridge babes with TOS outfits (and myself in WOK style uniform): Vanguard saucer and hull with Emissary nacelles and pylons:
  6. I bought a Sovereign to also use occasionally.
  7. Use the "/screenshot" command in the chat box. STO will save screenshots in a subdirectory of the game folder. It even removes the UI for you
  8. Yeah they started zapping my shields literally at the same instant I took the screenshot.
  9. "I'll just take a photo of my Emissary Class Star Cruiser and FRICKIN JEM HADAR GTFO"
  10. Set my video settings to full and took a screenshot. Also, been tweaking the design of my ship. I'm using the Celestial hull here, and this morning I switched to the Galaxy saucer. I wish you could rotate or nudge bits of your ship around. I'd like to make the nacelles horizontal.
  11. Made Captain last night. Created my own Exploration Cruiser using both Galaxy and Celestial bits.
  12. They probably did that so the "scanner" effect would emanate from the same relative location no matter which combination of escort parts you use.
  13. Made it to Commander this evening. My ship looks remarkably like Vostok7's except for the saucer.
  14. Here's an in-game shot I took yesterday. I hid the UI and zoomed in on my ship. Click for high res.
  15. Those are decals from Reprolabels.
  16. Removable hands aren't perfect transformation.
  17. I painted this up for a buddy of mine who wanted a "masterpiece" Jetfire.
  18. It's not impossible if you practice moderation. That photo is my entire collection. I've limited myself to just my favorites, and no repaints, with the exception of the VE-1, since it has a lot of different goodies than the VF-1J. I might pick up a VF-1A cannon fodder eventually to display with no FAST packs if I have the spare cash and find a good deal. I wish I could get one from HLJ, but I already got the VF-11B from that sale, so I have to hold off for a while.
  19. A while back I created a Photoshop tutorial for Lego creations, but the same techniques apply. http://www.flickr.com/photos/grandadmiral/...57617438864913/ Enjoy!
  20. A little Photoshop fun today. Click for high-res.
  21. No way, Macross kites ftw.
  22. Yep, Ikea was busy this morning, but they were organized. My wife and I went to the warehouse section first and Ikea employees were setting Detolf boxes on carts and giving them to people one after the other. I bought one and took it out to the car, then returned to wander through the store with the mrs. By the time we got back to the warehouse section they were gone. They probably sold a couple hundred in the hour it took us to walk through the store.
  23. Hot damn! Is that the Detolf? Edit: Upon checking the name of the image, yes, it's the Detolf. Me and the mrs. are goin' to IKEA tomorrow!
  24. As much as my VE-1 was a huge nostalgia bonus for me, I'm going to have to give the #1 spot to the VF-11B. It's really that good.
  25. I sold my YF-19 because I just wasn't satisfied with the gappy fighter mode (shoulders wouldn't sit flush, wings didn't stay in place well) and loosey goosey battroid mode (torso didn't lock in place). Maybe they'll make a 2.0 someday. The VF-0 is just further down my list. I might pick one up eventually.
