Yeah, but have you listened to the ADV version? I'm talking about the original Japanese audio. It sounds like it was recorded through a paper bag. The hissing and muffled voices made it practically unwatchable. I really love both DVD sets (Animeigo and ADV) for various reasons, but I would never recommend the ADV set to someone who only wants to watch a subtitled version.

Sweet! Is it wrong that I'm more excited by this announcement than any of the other Macross toy news this year? And this is coming from someone who almost had a heart attack when news of the YF-19 surfaced.

PLEASE tell me this is not some complex model kit... I want this sucker to look good right out of the box.

Transformers Super Thread 4: The Return
crasis replied to Dangard Ace's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
You know, all this fuss over Masterpiece Starscream just makes me that much happier to have stumbled across Classics Starscream (and Bumblebee & Hod Rod) yesterday after work. The G1 homage/likeness is incredible on this little $10 wonder. Best $30 I've spent on toys in a long time. -
Alright, it's the end of July. Where's Max? I'm especially excited, as I received a pre-order notice for him from my fiancee for my birthday yesterday. That little piece of paper made my whole day. I'd love to see some prototype shots, even...

Absolutely! I couldn't afford M&M the first time around (well, I probably still can't ), but I would buy those in a heartbeat! And Max DYRL VF-1S!
-
While the Angel Birds scheme does nothing for me, kudos to those who have been wanting this for years. I have to say, though...I am more than a bit puzzled as to why something like this would get made before a TV Max VF-1A or DYRL Max VF-1S... Or even some re-issue action with TV Max and Millia VF-1Js...? Where's the Jenius love, Yamato?!

Armada Unicron's planet mode is, admittedly a bit weak...but bot mode (the most important, IMO) is excellent. He doesn't look like he belongs in the Armada line. He's too good for that line. In other Unicron news, I came *this* close to buying one of those little diecast Titanium series statues of him last night... but the proportions were just too hideous.

Noel, any word on when we'll see images of Max?

If You Had A Say, What Mecha Franchise Would
crasis replied to GobotFool's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
A very painful $75, considering the size of these. I'm a huge BGC fan, and I simply couldn't justify the cost for these figs. I would probably reconsider (and go absolutely broke hunting down these now OOP pieces) if they made compatible Motoslaves, however... I was hoping to collect all the (more affordable) Bubblegum Crisis STORY! IMAGE! figs, but those are apparently cancelled the moment, according to Tam. -
Totoro242, Heh, I completely understand the surprise upon discovering other people out there who are not only into underground industrial/ebm/etc, but ALSO sport the good taste to like Macross! You, sir, are a welcome sight. I've been into this music for a huge chunk of my life, ever since I got my first taste of Nine Inch Nails and Skinny Puppy way back in the day. Since then, I've dj'd in both clubs and radio for many years and co-founded a local weekly night awhile back. After a bit of a fiasco with a shady club owner, that night collapsed, sadly, and I haven't been in the booth since. I still keep up to date with all the great stuff coming out, though, and find myself making mp3 mixes like crazy now. I haven't heard any further news on Destroid, other than some tours across Europe this year. I'm excited that Haujobb's playing an unexpected NYC-only gig this Saturday. Since I live relatively nearby, I will definitely be heading out for that. Oh, and speaking of Daniel Myer's work, thank you for reminding me about HMB! Funny thing with that CD, I bought it in a big ol' Metropolis Records haul back in 2002 and never really got around to giving it a fair listen until...well, right now. There really are some strong tracks on this disc! I wonder why my first impressions weren't so favorable...? I also really enjoy Myer's work on Cleen/Cleaner and Architect. Also, since you like the Haujobb sound, you should check out a project called Mnemonic on the Alfa Matrix label. They definitely have that Solutions for a Small Planet/Matrix type of vibe covered on their latest disc Konstruktive Vergangenheitsbewältigung (try saying that 3 times fast). Judging by your list of CDs in rotation, we seem to have a lot common. La Floa Maldita is one of THE most under-appreciated female fronted bands of all time. Her voice is absolutely amazing. I think only the woman from Technoir comes anywhere near as close to sending so many shivers up my spine. I am still bummed about Grendel and FLA's recent tours being cancelled due to some pretty crappy circumstances. Speaking of FLA, their new one is... well, very good for a typical FLA cd. It's definitely not as polished or melodic/Delerium-esque as Civilization (my second favorite disc by them, just barely outshined by Tactical Neural Implant). Not that this is a bad album by any stretch, but it was definitely a return-to-the-formula type of thing. The guest vocals by Jean-Luc De Meyer on track 8 are worth the price of admission alone, though I wish the same could be said about Eskil from Covenant's contribution. Eh, don't listen to me, just pick it up and see for yourself. It's still infinitely better than a lot of the bands out there today trying to mimic the sound.

Man, the $35 shipping on that is a killer. I wouldn't say that's a great deal. Just so you know, I am offering a never opened Hasbro 20th Anniversary Optimus Prime for $80 shipped. Feel free to PM me or check out my "for sale" thread here: http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=19559 -D

Okay... and what are your plans for them, exactly? It sucks that there are quite a few people out there who missed out on the release (I'd be happy to just have ONE), and yet you're apparently sitting on hundreds...

Most Wanted Unproduced Macross Toy By Yamato
crasis replied to Shin Densetsu Kai 7.0's topic in Toys
SDF-1 all the way! TV or DYRL, it doesn't matter to me. I'm still amazed that Yamato hasn't tackled this one yet. -
You can count on me to support this line. Now is an amazing time to be a Macross fan. Any word on the release date for Max, Noel?
-
Okay Graham, you just made my week. This figure looks even better than I had hoped! I am so glad I preordered this guy. And now I'm not so sure I want to pose him next to the ARII 1/6 TV Pilot Hikaru, as previously planned. This figure just blows that pvc statue away. As much as I love my Yamato Valks, I've been wanting accurate character figures for years. I really want this line to do well, because I will need a Milia to eventually go with my Max. And speaking of which... Noel, if you're reading this, PLEASE tell me that pics of the Max headsculpt will be revealed in the near future. I'm dying to see how he turns out. Any updated info on his release date? And Roy should definitely come with some 1/6 booze action.

I'm REALLY late to this party, but I just wanted to mention that Destroid (love the name) is actually a side project of Daniel Myer of Haujobb, one of my favorite industrial/electronic groups. Myer's a big sci-fi geek, so I'm fairly sure the name is a Macross reference. After all, "Haujobb" is a (mis)translation of "Skin Job" from the german version of Blade Runner, so that should be a clue as to his interests. Oh, and as far as music (my main passion besides Macross/SW), the following bands/albums are currently in rotation: Code 64 - Departure (great synthpop band who bases a song on Captain Harlock-gotta love it) Covenant - Skyshaper (one of the best in the EBM/synthpop genre, still at the top of their game) Depeche Mode - Playing the Angel (ditto) DJ Shadow - Live! In Tune & On Time Edge of Dawn - The Flight [Lux] Fad Gadget - The Best Of (synthpop fans take note: Depeche Mode used to open up for *him*) The Faint - Wet From Birth Front Line Assembly - Artificial Soldier Gnarls Barkley - St. Elsewhere (it took the Star Wars outfits to grab my attention, but this rules!) Haujobb - Solutions for a Small Planet (THE classic electro-industrial album) Kattoo - Megrim Ladytron - Witching Hour Larvae - Dead Weight MC Chris - Eating's Not Cheating Monster Movie - All Lost P·A·L - Modus Saltillo - Ganglion (DJ Shadow fans take note) Seabound - Beyond Flatline She Wants Revenge - S/T ...and I still throw some Macross mixes on in the car from time to time.

I still can't get past how utterly whiny and shrill the Misa voice actress is. It just ruins the mood when she starts shrieking out lines in what should be more serious moments. Ugh. That's worse than the Bridge Bunnies to me.
-
Sadly, it is by no means good... but I'm only buying these for Mari's performance, anyway. And, I suppose these DVDs could be used to get any children I may decide to have into Macross down the road. Though I'll constantly correct them if they ever ask to watch Muh-cross.

That would be July 4, 2006....when the teaser trailer appears in theaters.

HAHAHA! Priceless.
-
Blasphemy! Let us not forget the 15 or so years where there was NO Macross product at any time.
-
I'm definitely with you on the pricepoint of these, but then again similar quality 1/6 figures from Medicom and Hot Toys go for almost DOUBLE that $80 cost. And even the somewhat more affordable line of 12" figures from Sideshow Collectibles (Star Wars, LOTR, etc.) are still around $50-$70. I've come to realize over the years that just about anything Macross doesn't come cheap. There was a time when I nearly had a heart attack about being charged $80 for a VF toy (oh, my poor 1/60 Roy VF-1S Strike, you were just the beginning of the murder on my wallet). Now I'm dropping $200+ on a Super Stealth 1/48 without feeling as shocked. As you point out, this is Toynami we're talking about, so I definitely am worried about this line. My biggest fear is that I've seen very little discussion about it...and that just may lead to a lack of sales, and thus a cancellation of the line. I'm hoping to at least get Hikaru, Max and Roy before something like that happens. But I would absolutely go nuts for a quality Miria, Misa or Minmay figure. Oh hell, give me Claudia and Global. And the Zentradi... And... Thanks for reminding me about the ARII PVCs. I was looking for Misa in her bridge uniform and Hikaru in his TV flight suit for the longest time. I had given up about a year ago due to several dead-ends. You've inspired me to keep up the search.

The only reason I'd pick up one (maybe two) of these is to have them stand next to my 1/100 Koenig Monster. Ever since I got my 1/60 VF-0S last week, I've been obsessed with displaying toys together in the proper scale. The non-clear canopy does bug me, but I'm hoping these hold together better than the Banprestos...
