Yeah, Downshift is a very nice TF toy. In fact he's the only pre-Classics TF I keep on display. His only major problems are lack of neck and waist rotation, but those can be fixed fairly easily.

I don't understand all the statements that Bandai didn't make Macross toys for the last ten years because they chose to make Gundam toys instead. It's not like Bandai was sitting there facing the decision of "Should we make Gundam toys or Macross toys?". Bandai has always made TONS of non-Gundam toys alongside their Gundams. Just because Gundam is their flagship brand doesn't mean it's the only thing they make or even the only thing they put any effort into. Some of the best toys in my collection are made by Bandai and they aren't Gundams, and they were made over the last ten years. I would guess the reason Bandai didn't make much of anything for Macross over the last 10 years is because for whatever reasons they just didn't see enough of a market for it. They could have noticed a market while they were making their 1/55 reissues, which were welcomed and praised by Macross fans at the time, but it was also at that time that Yamato was starting to focus on NEW high-end Macross toys so perhaps Bandai didn't want to compete or maybe felt that they couldn't compete. Who knows? All in all, it's hard to imagine a better time to be a fan of Macross when we now have THREE of the best toy companies making toys for us (Yamato, Bandai, Kaiyodo). I welcome them all and I think there is plenty of room for all of them to coexist.

But the CMs does stand on it's own. At least mine does. Yes, it's very back-heavy but it can stand. Just don't bump the shelf.

I've had my fingers crossed for YEARS for Bandai to make a chogokin Macross toy. I can't imagine Yamato making one and if they did attempt it I'm sure it would be even more expensive than their current offerings. As far as them being a 'better' company, I'm not so sure about that. They're just another company is all. Aside from that I always love to see what other companies can do with the same property.

I'm SO happy Bandai is designing these. Couldn't ask for a better company to be in charge.

Well, I'm sure BBTS wont have a hard time selling the ride armor I decided not to buy from them.

So you think stores are going to be left with units of this that they'll be unable to sell? That's highly unlikely. Maybe for some really high-end expensive items that are hard to sell, but not something like this. And if a store truly has a problem with people cancelling preorders then they shouldn't allow it.

Speaking for myself the review has absolutely nothing to do with my decision to cancel. I think it sounds like a great toy, I just would rather wait until a Stig comes out with larger wheels. If that doesn't happen, I'll just get Yellow's when it comes out and call it a day.

I'm pretty happy with my CMs, too. That combined with the possibility of a revised version has led me to cancel my order for the MH.

I'm torn on weather or not to cancel my preorder. Nothing in the reviews really turns me off, but I keep thinking of the possibility of a later release with larger wheels and maybe even a blue visor. Grr...

Got my SDF-1 yesterday, it's a pretty nice piece. I actually quite like the size, although I'd never turn my nose up at a larger one. I love the deco, although I can't really compare it to the original since I've never seen that one in person. I thought the transformation would be incredibly simple with only a couple steps, boy was I wrong! I even had to consult the manual, which is something I rarely have to do and don't like to do. The part that had me flummoxed was the shoulder pieces- I couldn't figure out how to get them to rotate because I didn't notice the little catch lever that needs to be pulled down first. After I saw that in the manual it was clear sailing. This has probably been asked but with the manual there is a tiny baggie with a small plastic stick thing in it. The manual has a picture of it being used for something on the toy but I can't figure out what. I'm guessing it's used to unlock the power of PROTOCULTURE! I guess I can't really say much else about it that hasn't already been said in this thread, so I'll just give this thing another 'thumbs up'.

Yeah, the face on the piece in those photos doesn't seem to be painted as well as the CMs. Odd, since the CM's is smaller. Not a deal-breaker for me though, nor is the purple visor. I really do wish the visor was blue though. What if Toynami actually does release these later on and they have blue visors and larger wheels....?

I don't believe CM's has ever said "We will never release these individually", so there is always a chance. I wouldn't count on it happening, but I wouldn't rule it out, either. If they ever did it would have to be long after the initial sets sold out and CM's made back the money they pumped into this project.

I suggested a 1/18 scale Legioss a while back, one that the CM's figures could pilot. Glad to hear I'm not the only crazy person who'd want such a thing. I think if they kept the details very simple, made it all out of plastic and gave it articulation similar to the Gakken it could be a doable toy. Of course the price would depend on who was making it. Sometimes I wish Robotech was popular enough for Hasbro-style toys. If Hasbro did a 1/18 scale Legioss they could have it on the shelf for under $100. :edit: 1/18, not 1/8...even I'm not wacko enough to demand a 1/8 scale Legioss!

As a responsible company they should have, at the VERY least, responded to my emails telling me that they couldn't help. Just ignoring someone because you aren't willing to stand behind what is essentially your own product is pretty much the worst thing to do. I'm also not trying to bash Toynami because I HAVE had good customer service from them before. When the connecting joint on the 1/100 stand broke I emailed Toynami and they were quick to respond and quick to send out a new piece (two of them in fact). However, if you read through the 1/100 threads there are several people who NEVER heard back from Toynami regarding the very same issue. So like I said before, Toynami's customer service is as inconsistant as their toys. It's an unfortunate truth, but a truth nonetheless.

It's possible the shoulder joints are similar to Volks or Revoltech and that they're just pulled out a little in that photo and could be pushed in closer to the torso. I'm just bummed about the scale. This and that Yamato Minmay doll look spectacular but they're just too large for my collection. I used to have several 12" figures but they ate up space so fast that I got rid of most of them. I do still have the original Motoko 1/6 figure from Toycom (I think that's the company), and I suppose I could display this one alongside that one, but the difference of 1/6 to 1/7 might look odd. I'm really counting on a Revoltech or Figma Motoko.

I wouldn't count on Toynami for customer support in the event of a dud. I contacted them twice about my bad Legioss and never heard back from them. I know some people have gotten help from Toynami, and I also know others haven't. I get the impression that their service is as much of a crap-shoot as their product. What I DO count on though is BBTS. Any Toynami product I buy from now on will only be through them because it's basically 100% insured.
