I just NetFlixed the new Dr.Who series and I'm really, really enjoying it so far. I avoided for the longest time because I was convinced that I wouldn't like it (even though it generally gets great reviews) but after realizing I needed to put something in queue I went for it. I haven't gotten to season 2 yet so I'm still on the ninth doctor and I have to say I'm not looking forward to seeing him go. I know it goes against Who lore and most people probably would disagree, including Christopher Eccleston, but I would actually like it if they found a way to bring him back after DT leaves the series. That said, how are the toys for this series? I've seen a few of them here and there but not many stores carry them around here. I'd love to get a figure of the Ninth Doctor but I can't find him outside of Ebay.

I got the new Voltes a few weeks before getting Grimlock. While I love both, I can honestly say Grimlock brings me more joy. But really they are such different toys that it's like comparing Snapple & oranges. I'm also F I N A L L Y getting an Ideon today. Kept putting him off for the longest time and then suddenly realized how stupid I was for not having him. Luckily he was (and still is) on sale at Lost & Found for $160.

I'm glad to hear the head looks better in person! I agree that fighter mode on the TV 1A is bland and yet for some reason that's part of what draws me to it. Mine 1A Max just left Japan, so Monday for me. I was hoping to spend the weekend with Max, oh well.
-
That I follow. I was thinking that he meant the made the overall piece bigger or something, which didn't make sense but yeah, making the hole smaller would make the piece look thicker. In any case, I just hope this fix resolves the cracking problem once and for all.
-
I'm not sure I follow that...wouldn't they just make a smaller hole to accomodate the smaller pin?
-
A VF-5000 would really tickle my fancy.
-
If it did come with Ranka she would have to be really out of scale in order to look like anything but a speck of plastic. Which would be fine by me, actually.
-
That's the DX you're thinking of. The 1/100 comes with them and, if I recall correctly, has a bit higher price tag.
-
Did Yamato say there were making that part thicker? I don't remember anything about that, just the pin diameter.
-
God I love the brightness of that white and that shade of blue on the TV 1A. Mine can't come fast enough! As for the shoulder pins, I think it's the metal pins themselves that are supposed to be different, and they aren't really visible in those pics.
-
Yes, that's the part. Thanks for checking! The newer pins are supposed to be a smaller diameter. I wonder though if the difference would be enough to see with the naked eye. The pins are so small to begin with that it might be really hard to tell.

Inquiring minds would like to know.

I was kinda thinking that the 1/48 head looked better, too. I still like the 1/60 head though.

New from TakaraTomy: Device Label! http://www.bigbadtoystore.com/bbts/menu.aspx?menu=1997 I'm a huge lover of gadget-formers so this sort of thing is right up my alley. I'm definitely picking up the USB hub Blaster, not sure about the others yet.

As boring and plain as it may be, I would be all over an all-white valk with no marking other than the UN Spacy kites. In fact this is something I've wanted for a while. Half the reason I like Max's TV 1A is because it's almost all white when viewed from the top in fighter mode.

But jenius isn't a Mod...so how can he close threads?

Shocker Toys Pre-Toy Fair sneak images

Scud is already out, he's part of the same wave as the Maxx pictured above. Scud SOL (black version) is also available. Apparently Shocker has already sold out of the first run of Scud, but they are getting more in a month or two. BBTS still has Scud SOL available. The Tick is part of Series 2 coming later this year. Arthur is also being produced. Pics of Tick, Series 2, etc. http://toyfair09.figures.com/showgallery.p...=703&page=2 -
I'm not on the East Coast, but EMS typically takes 3 or 4 days to get to Minnesota. I wouldn't think it would be much longer than that for the East coast. You should be enjoying your new Max on Friday I would guess.

I also vote for the rupee. I also think we should have the option to throw an older valk into the secret fairy pond in exchange for a newer, better valk.

The first wave of Indie Spotlight is out now and I just received The Maxx in the mail direct from Shocker Toys. My impulse reaction is "OMG! OMG! OMG!" because it's large, heavy and it looks so, so very good in the package. It's a very simple bubble-tray on a card affair but it's meant to be "collector friendly" so all you have to do is slit a few small pieces of tape and the backer slides right off letting you at the sweet, stanky (FUMES!) goodness within. Lifting Maxx out of the tray I immediately noticed something that initially concerned me. He's floppy. Many of the joints are quite loose. However, almost all of the joints (knees are double pin joints) are ball/socket joints, the kind where the joint itself is a separate piece with a ball on each end. So, even though many of them are loose and some of them pop off incredibly easily, at least it's something that will be easy as pie to fix if it becomes an annoyance. The good news is that regardless of the floppy joints he can and does hold poses quite well. And holy crap can you pose this guy! Shocker really did some great work with the articulation and all of the double-ball joints means he has an incredible range. Imagine being able to make Maxx stand rigid and upright, he can! His head is my favorite joint as it's rare to get a figure with this much range. He can look almost striaght up! Another cool element is that they went with rotocast vinyl for his torso, shoulders and forearms, and with a nice heavy plastic for his feet so he is incredibly well-balanced and not as top-heavy as many figures of this build can be. While Maxx fits in well with more statuesqe collectable figures, he is most definitely a toy. He's pretty rugged and that combined with the ball socket joints means he'll be able to stand up to a lot of posing and would even hold his own in the sandbox with Jr. As for the paint, it looks great on mine. They were able to match his body parts really well considering they used vinyl & PVC both. He's got a nice airbrushed look wash over most of him and smaller details like the eyes and teeth are clean and well defined. The accessories are three Isz figures, a black one, white one and pink fairy one attached to a stand so it looks like it's flying. He also comes with two heads. A normal head and a head wearing the Outback headdress. The Outback head has the headdress pieces attached with ball joints so they are positionable and, if you wish, removable. The Isz look good, and actually a bit better than the McFarlane Isz but unlike the Mcfarlane ones they do not have bendy arms. Oh well. This guy is the Maxx figure I've been waiting for. He's got a killer sculpt, he's hyper-articulated, he's durable and he's replacing the old McFarlane figure as soon as I get home. The floppiness is a bit of a niggle, but it hasn't hampered anything yet so I am hesitant to complain much. My one legitimate complaint is that Sam Keith is not mentioned anywhere on the package. MTV is. This makes me wonder if Keith has less control over his creation than MTV does. It's unfortunate, especially because MTV seems uninterested in doing anything with the property (like a freakin' DVD release already). I'm eager for Scud now, and the Tick should be awesome too. Pics later. -
Official Bandai 1/60 Scale DX Toy Thread Ver.5
eriku replied to azrael's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
What, you don't want your VF-25 toy packaged in a box roughly the size of an average American sedan? I hope Yamato can make Frontier toys in the future just because I'm curious what they would be like. I don't know how interested I'd be in buying one because Bandai's Frontier toys are pretty close to 100% of what I want a toy to be. -
I'm not someone who usually cares much about packaging but damn if I wouldn't like to see a return to that textured style of the old Takatoku boxes. I actually like that even more than the Toynami Masterpiece boxes.
