The Transformers 3 Thread--A Michael Bay Thread
eriku replied to areaseven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I'd like to see: a different director Prime actually be Prime and not some thickneck douchebag killing machine who wants faces Slower paced action and wider shots where I can actually see and care about what's happening Skids and Mudflap can stay as long as they adopt Bumblebee's voice defect. Less explosions. Sorry, they're just not that interesting to me when they happen constantly. No dogs humping No robot humping No robot testicles, or any testicles for that matter No robots peeing, farting or giving facials with their gooey yellow robot spunk Less focus on human characters Less focus on military More maturity. Honestly, Transformers Animated is more mature than ROTF and it's a children's show. -

I've heard and read this "Summer Movie Theory" about two hundred times in the last week, even from my wife right after watching ROTF, but it just doesn't work that way. I pretty much loathed ROTF and if it's only because I 'don't enjoy summer movies and can't take them for what they are' then based on that logic I shouldn't have enjoyed Iron Man, Hulk, Hellboy II and Dark Knight last year. But I enjoyed all of those films immensely. -

If removing the dog humping, "cherry poppin momma", robot humping and robot testicles would be dumbing down the movie, I'd hate to see how retarded it would be without those elements. But yeah, it's the parent's responsibility if the kids watch something or not. I just think a lot of parents might see it as a movie for a brand of children's toys and ignore the rating thinking, "It's Transformers, how bad could it be?" Then wham! giant robot balls in their face. -

So....do Transformers reproduce like most Earth creatures then? The movie seems to suggest it, what with Wall-E humping the leg of that transgendered Thai boy and Devastator with his big clanging balls that were apparently not obvious enough since they made Turturro say, more or less, "I'm about to be teabagged by a giant set of robot testicles." I feel really bad for the parents that will assume this is a kid-friendly movie. And what parent wouldn't assume that when there is a multitude of ROTF-related toys in every store that are aimed at the kids? Especially coming right on the tail of Animated. "Daddy, what's a scrotum?" "Mommy, where is Bulkhead? Is he getting his cherry popped?" -

Street Fighter: The Later Years was the episodic internet series that was actually quite a hit. The official movies on the other hand.... -
Bleh....I just found out I have to go see Revenge of the Fallen tonight with my wife. Hopefully knowing that this new Burton/Depp film is on the horizon will see me through all sixteen hours of Transformers and protect my brain from collapsing.

I'm cautiously optimistic of Yamato's new pin/hinge setup. The Max 1A I bought a month or two ago is still holding up fine after several transformations and posing, none of which have been overly gentle. However it is time that will tell us weather the fix is a real fix. Many of the original shoulder hinges were fine for several months and then people started noticing cracks and breaks. To be honest my major point of concern has switched from the shoulders to the hip bar/nosecone door area. I just don't like how that whole setup works going into and coming out of Battroid. I haven't had any problems, but every time I transform the thing I have visions of that door busting off. But that's for another thread...

Sounds like a great idea! I'd be interested in a set if the fixes from Yamato turn out to be insufficient. Does anyone forsee any issues with an aluminum ball moving within a plastic socket?

Heh, Snape and Bellatrix together again.

That's not entirely true. You can whoosh him around all you want, you just have to hold him with two hands, one on each end. It would probably stress the toy to hold only one end, or just the middle, but it's so big and long in cruiser mode that you would probably want to use both hands anyway. I can't really think of any true faults on Iron Gear. He's easily among my top three favorite SOCs and has a magnificent shelf presence. Plus he comes with miniature to-scale figures of Walker Galliar and Xabungle (in bot and vehicle modes) that are fully painted and articulated, how cool is that?

And which is why part of me likes the film better than the book. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the book, but I read it after seeing the movie and once I got to that last chapter...well, I just sort of frowned my way through it. I'm not expecting Shrek 4 to be horrible, I just think it's going to be very hard to make him interesting as a character again. I'd say they could do a prequel but that would have to exclude Donkey, and I think people would riot in the streets if there was a Shrek movie without Donkey (although I would welcome it). One thing I am hoping for is a new line of toys. All I want is one really good Shrek figure with a great sculpt, great paint, great articulation, and not made from the petrified alien spunk that the McFarlane ones were made from.

I don't know. I loved the first film and, to a lesser degree, the second. The third one unfortunately domesticated Shrek to the point of no return. He's got an entire family now, and a trove of friends, so the whole 'misunderstood ogre' thing doesn't work anymore. No matter what happens to him, he has his wife and kids to go home to and since a family-orientated series like this would never kill off the wife or kids, Shrek effectively loses much of the persona that made him interesting to begin with. I liked Shrek best when he was misunderstood and actually had to struggle. Now he's just another bland 'hero' getting into adventures and singing a party song at the end of each film.

I'm not saying I think his proportions are wrong, just that they don't look pleasing to me. He could look exactly like the film version for all I know, but I'd still feel the same.

Ah...ever since I got the ROTF Leader Prime there has been something about it that just didn't seem right and I just realized what it is. Those shoulders. When you look at and handle the toy as a whole it's not that noticeable, but when you take a good look at the distance between his shoulders the wonky proportions stick out like a sore thumb. I know it's bordering on taboo to voice even the smallest amount of dislike this toy, but I just don't like the thing that much. Clever transformation though. Maddening and joyless, but clever. Overall I think the 2007 Prime (who himself has very broad shoulders) is the better of the two.

Not as big as the current plan, but not anywhere near as small as the WAVE toy.
-
They don't use either exclusively, which is to say that they use both. As far as this toy is concerned, we have no idea what the joints will be like yet.
-
Sheep Convoy > Mickey Mouse Convoy.

Awesome, thanks! I think the more unified color scheme works a lot better than the original, which seems a bit random and uninspired.

Heh, I suppose Pidge Luca would look pretty strange standing at the same height as the others.

Official Bandai 1/60 Scale DX Toy Thread Ver.5
eriku replied to azrael's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
I think you're correct. If I remember correctly BBTS never got any initial stock of Alto from the first run, and only started shipping orders when the second run came in. -
That looks great! I like him even better in the red/silver scheme. Any pics in plane mode?
-
I want a Ranka in this scale to display with Alto.
-
Excellent pics! Did you paint that at all or does the ROTF version come looking like that out of the box? I still like this mold best of all the different movie Prime toys. Much more so than the new Leader Prime.

I picked up this toy over the weekend. My only complaint is that the one I got is a tiny floppy mess whose arms and legs pop off every time I move them. Other than that he's a sweet little biplane bot. Very unique alt mode (insofar as TFs never really do old-timey stuff), unique transformation and fairly decently articulated in bot mode. I'll probably pick up another one if I find one and hopefully the joints wont be so rubbish. Protip- you can pull his face off (it's only held on by friction) and his head looks even creepier because the eyes stay behind.
