  1. I plan on seeing this again in 2D. While the Real 3D presentation I saw was cool, I found it a bit too distracting. Maybe it's because my brain isn't wired correctly to look at 3D effects and think, "Oh my gosh, that thing just came right AT me!!" If anything the 3D makes it look more fake and artificial to me and pushes me out of the film rather than drawing me in. My main hope for this movie is that they release a special edition with the word "unobtainium" replaced by some other word. Any other word. I know it's a petty complaint, but the two times they spoke that word in this film it was like everything came to a screeching halt. Wouldn't have been much different if one of the Na'vi would have stopped mid-speech, bent over and farted directly at the camera with full THX-enhanced seat-rattling reverberations.
  2. Happy Who Year! http://blogtorwho.blogspot.com/2010/01/201...es-trailer.html Watching this made me giddy with anticipation. I love Tennant and I will miss him dearly, but I'm eager to see more of Smith. Nice to see the angel/statue creatures back, too.
  3. Do you guys think maybe the heightened airport/international security (due to the Xmas Day airplane bomber) may be a factor in all of these delayed packages? I feel lucky to have gotten my Quarter from AmiAmi on the 23rd. It only took the standard 3-4 days that EMS usually takes.
  4. The Collection DX review of the suit makes it sound pretty good: http://www.collectiondx.com/review/action_figure/amp_suit Josh also makes the good point that Hot Toys or some other company is almost guaranteed to make a better version.
  5. I haven't looked closely at the humans, but the Na'vi have great sculpts (although the face and hair looks a bit off on Sully) and paint and lots of articulation. The 3" figure I have reminds me of a modern Star Wars figure in terms of detail and quality, and the 6" figure is right in line with Mattell's recent DC and MOTU figures. I haven't handled any of the mechs or vehicles yet, but from what I've read they seem to be good toys. Apparently the iTag feature is fun, but I don't have a webcam so I haven't checked that out.
  6. Anyone checking out the toys yet? I picked up a 3" Na'vi Sully and the larger 6" version of the same. Both are quite excellent, with the biggest difference being that the 6" version has more/better articulation. Another difference is the 6" version has a removable knife on his chest strap. Very cool. I doubt I'll get any of the human figures, but I'll definitely pick up more Na'vi and probably the power suit. I think this is the most nicely done line of movie figures Mattell has produced so far.
  7. I'm very, very, very tempted to get one of these, but I'm going to try and wait for some alternate scemes to come along. I'd like an all white one to go with the upcoming Valk Blanc.
  8. Feet, inner torso, hip joints, shoulder joints. Might not sound like much, but what's there makes the toy incredibly well-balanced.
  9. Or maybe like some of us they just like the old 1/55 Chunkies better than the newer incarnations?
  10. I'm revising my pick to the DX Quarter. I can't keep my hands off this thing.
  11. Awesome, thanks! I was trying to crank the arms last night but I couldn't get them to move past the 'pointing forward' position. Now that I know they're supposed to move more I'll be comfortable using more force. Gentle force of course.
  12. Maybe you can help me figure out the shoulder articulation- Mine seems to only move at the U-shaped swing bar, but it looks like there should be a 360 rotational joint there as well. I can't tell if it's immobile or just super-super tight.
  13. If only I had a tiny angel or star to put on it's head.
  14. Can't answer you there as the Quarter I'm playing with feels solid, sturdy, and very nicely constructed. I love this thing.
  15. All I want to know is if they were able to obtain any unobtainium and, if so, did such an act require the mineral to be renamed "obtainium"?
  16. Yes, but it should use the same joint in either mode, so logically speaking if the joint can hold the flight deck rigid in one mode it should also in the other. Regardless, we don't know one way or the other and wont until some folks here get theirs.
  17. I think that video was posted a while back. These photos from a day or two ago seem to indicate that the Quarter can, amazingly, hold it's flight deck straight out: http://hima-toy.cocolog-nifty.com/blog/200...cross-quar.html
  18. So I just heard that the mineral the humans want to take from Pandora is called "Unobtainium". I laughed because I thought the person was joking....but then I read a review that also mentioned this word. Why not just call it "Space Gold" or "Ultradiamondoniumanium Alloy"? That wouldn't be any less dumb. I'm not trying to find reasons to hate on the film, but "Unobtainium"? Really?
  19. Someone call Michael Bay, this would be right up his alley! I'm very cynical about Avatar, but only because I get cynical and skeptical of every movie that is advertised in such a way. Any time some blowhard voiceover tells me a movie "WILL CHANGE HOW MOVIES ARE MADE FOREVER" or something along those lines, it's an instant turn-off. However, I still plan on watching this film with as open a mind as possible. I have no reason to dislike James Cameron (I can even enjoy Titanic, although it's not a favorite) but I also have no reason to venerate him and hold hip up as some sort of movie-making god. I certainly wont be going with the intention of being wowed by special effects because I find that lately gratuitous special effects just put me to sleep - literally ( I actually fell asleep briefly during a big battle in ROTF). I just wonder how long before a Thundercats movie goes into production based on the success of this film and it's kitty people. BIG HOLLYWOOD EXECUTIVE: "People like cat people now so get that Thundercats film made! And start filming a movie version of Cats while you're at it! There's no time to lose!!"
  20. Mine will hopefully be arriving from AmiAmi next week, so I'll give my thoughts then.
  21. 1/60 VF-11b Easily Yamato's best transforming Macross toy to date in terms of engineering, fit, finish, QC, and overall FUN.
  22. Not neccessarily true. Sometimes details on very small parts can look much worse when seen in blown-up detail on a computer screen. Regardless, bent turrets on one sample doesn't guarantee an epidemic. If you're worried you'll probably be better served waiting until a bunch of other people buy one and give their thoughts/comments.
  23. Now now fellas, don't make me pull out my "Panic" avatar again. Maybe the cannons are small enough where any wilting wont be very noticable in person.
  24. Well, at least that's 55 million Disney Bucks that wont be going to Hannah Montana/Jonas Bros/etc. I really didn't care for POTC 3, but I'd still be interested in watching another one.
  25. Just give me a set containing one each of 1S, 1A, 1J, 1D, VE, VT heads and I'll be all set.
