Believe it or not, the Matchbox SD VF-1 (Joke Machine) is the first Macross/Robotech toy that got me hooked waaaaay back when I was 10 or 11. It remained my favorite toy for years, and when I got back into collecting one of the first items I bought was a Joke Machine (since my old one was lost to the ages). As for what got me BACK into Macross, it was probably seeing the Yamato 1/60s in Toyfare, not being able to afford one and settling for a Bandai Reissue VF-1J Chunky Monkey.

I've got all of my fingers crossed that Takara includes a set of those articulated hands with this upgrade pack.

I was amused by the change to TFW2005 for about ten seconds, then I just thought it was unbelievably stupid and over the top for a joke that just isn't that funny.

Here's some good news, Takara is releasing a Vanilla figure that comes with parts to turn your 1/18 Scopedog into a Red Shoulder Custom! Woot! http://www.hlj.com/product/TKT75999 So for about 40 bucks you get a Vanilla figure (I know, he's a Microman, but he's got a killer fro!) and presumably a gatling gun and missile box for the hips, a missile box for the shoulder and a red shoulder piece. Am I missing any of the distinguishing features for a RSC?

I was just assuming there was no knees. All the pictures I've seen it's looked like the knees were solid and immobile. Glad to hear they move! (I still like the looks of the Voyager size one better though...)

Now THAT movie Prime toy I like. I want to like the bigger one, but it almost looks too 'busy' to me, and the lack of knees is a big turn-off. This one looks great it both modes, seems to be well articulated and has a little trucker dude. Sold.

Has anyone here ever ordered anything from Yamato's website? I placed an order on Saturday for a 'Dog but aside from the automatic "your order was placed" email, I haven't heard from them and my card hasn't been charged. I'll probably email them tonight and ask if there's a problem.

Those finger look marvelous. I would pee glee if Takara release an accessory/weapons pack that included a set of those.

I do like that one, but the $200+ price tag sort of soured me on it.

The improvements sound good, but I want to stick to just the plain Scopedog for my Votoms collection so it doesn't get out of hand. As far as I know the first release is the only version of the 'Dog they've released, not counting the red shoulder which I don't really care for the look of.

I finally had some time today to open the Yamato Chirico figure and fiddle with it, and I'm very impressed. I've bought so many humanoid action figures over the years that rarely does one pull of something new, but Yamato really did some excellent designing with this figure in terms of articulation. There are some standard joints, like the hinged elbows and knees, but the other joints are all cut in such ingenious ways that you can put Chirico in dozens of cool poses without any ball joints. My single gripe is that his head, while somewhat of a ball joint, tends to look down a little further than I like. The helmeted head doesn't seem as bad, but the human head has a good tilt. It doesn't however detract from my enjoyment of the figure. And of course it only took Chirico about 30 minutes after being freed from his box before he started asking where his damn 'Dog was. So I high-tailed it to Yamato's site and ordered one for him. I'm surprised the still have the regular Scopedog in stock. $109 doesn't seem like much of a sale, but oh well. I can't wait to compare it to the DMZ.

The Chirico was my only purchase through them, but everything went smoothly and they responded very quickly to a question I emailed them. It took exactly one week from purchase to delivery. I'd definitely buy from them again.

Awesome, I was just thinking yesterday that Yamato should release a Fyana figure. I've been spending most of my free time watching Votoms, too. I'm half-way through the whole series now and it's damn near become my favorite anime.

And I just ordered the Yamato 1/12 scale Chirico figure but don't have the 'dog. I know I'll get one eventually, even though I'm intimidated by it's size. BTW folks, if you're looking for a 1/12 Chirico figure Toyslogic.com seems to still have some in stock. Now that I've seen more of the series ( I'm on episode 12) I'm loving it even more. So far I like it almost as much as SDF Macross. It's filled with action, interesting characters, great mechs, and nothing cutesy or annoying. Well, Cocona gets irritating sometimes with her wailing, but Vanilla tells her shut the hell up so it's all good.

Yeah, those are the hands I was referring to, they look fan-damn-tastic. I've got my fingers crossed that Takara releases an accessory pack with weapons and articulated hands. I don't expect them to, but I bet it would sell really well.

Dang, I didn't even think to check Suncoast for this set, the $60 range is a downright steal! I paid around $90 with shipping and it's easily worth that. Graham - sorry to hear your DMZ experience was a bit sour. The hands really are an annoyance but I'm hoping to somehow get an articulated set that they put on the newer ones. My Microman Chirico is pretty much perfect, doesn't fall apart, isn't loose. But since I have other Microman figures I know that he's an anomoly.

Got my ammo box set today and just finished watching about 6 episodes. So far I love this show and can tell it's going to be an instant favorite. There are so few anime series I like so it's awesome to get into another one. Thanks to all who recommended the ammo box! And now I must have more toys!

Perfect Piece Tachikoma Ghost in the Shell

Damn, it seems like only yesterday when we were all begging for just ONE good Tachi figure. Now there are almost too many to choose from. I'll probably go for the Good Smile version. -
I only have the Takara Scopedog so I can't compare, but I can tell you the Takara is a fantastic toy in all respects. The size, while smaller than the Yamato, is perfect in my eyes. It gives the feel of a 'big' toy without taking up much more space than, say, a 1/48 Valk. The sculpt and design is beautiful and the articulation allows for a lot of posing possibilities. The arms and legs both have a fairly large range of motion. It looks great in both 'at ease' poses and high-action sprawls. The paint detailing is, as a lot of people have said, like it's been done by a professional modeler. It doesn't have the plain green "plastic toy" look that the Yamato has (not that there is anything wrong with plain plastic) and really gives the impression that this thing is very real and has seen some battles. I particularly like the details where it looks like bare metal is visable under the blasted paint, but some people don't care for that. The cockpit is wonderfully detailed as well and Chirico, once he's crammed in there, looks great behind the controls. The Chirico figure is fairly standard for a Microman figure. Some people have loose joints on theirs but mine is solid enough to hold poses. I would rather have seen a removable helmet over swapable heads, but it's not an issue. The spring loaded arm is fun and doesn't hinder the sculpt or poseability in the least. The flip-out foot spikes are really cool but they come off easily and are small, so beware. The one thing I don't care for is the hands. I'd rather have either one-piece hands or articulated hands over what is offered here. It seems like a good idea in theory, removable fingers and thumbs, but mine just don't stay together that well. They don't just fall apart at a glance or anything like that, but they can be frustrating. As for looks though, they look just as great as the rest of the toy. Some people have said that they find the Takara DMZ to be a bit on the light side, and therefore 'cheap' feeling, or reminding one of a model kit, but I don't quite agree. While it doesn't feel incredibly hefty, it also doesn't feel like a model kit to me. I think it feels plenty durable and plenty 'toy-like'. Actually, I find the overall essence of the toy to be very comparable to a 1/48 Yamato valk....without the awful QC. Graham- I think you'd really enjoy the Takara dog. Although I'm sure most people will tell you to get both and they're probably right.
