Heh, so even for all the talk of being 'so real' and no mass-shifting etc etc, they still use an amount of good old fasioned 'anime magic' to get the job done. If there hadn't been so many thousands of moving and shifting parts, I think they could have pulled off some perfectly realistic transformations and still retained interesting looking characters. I'm not battying, I liked the movie. I just think it's funny that when all is said and done, there is still mass-shifting making it possible.

Cool, thanks. I like the mountain but I probably wouldn't display it so I don't think I'll spend more for it.

Yep, I'll be spending some serious cash on Godmars. It's another example of a series I was never familiar with but can be completely sold just by a great SOC toy. Can't wait to see some fully painted shots with all the colors. I'm also not one for the 'gucci' versions of SOC toys, but i can't help but think that Godmars would look really cool in all black. As for Reideen, he keeps looking even more fantastic. One question though, where do the wings come from in Godbird mode? I don't see them on bot mode. I've never seen the show show so I don't know how it's done. And has there been any word on if there will be two versions? One with just Reideen and one with Reideen and the mountain/statue thing?

Hasn't that issue with the Macross content been out for a year or more now? I remember buying it in March, and I know it had been out for a little while by that point. Anyway, Super7 is great, can't wait for the new one.

Not sure where to get them, other than Yahoo Japan, but they are called "Dash Vehicle Go!" by the candy company Kabaya (who also made several TF toys in the past). Here's a nice review with pics: http://www.starfleet.ac/~prominence/toys/dash-b.html This is their most recent offering, Change-Dashers:

Does anyone know when the Rei and Tetsujin figures are supposed to come out? I would guess soon, especially for Rei, but I haven't seen any of my usual sources posting preorders.

I always have to laugh when these things go up for auction because it's something I wouldn't even trade a Coke for.

VF-1S Joke-Machine (or Matchbox version). It was the only fully transformable perfect-change valk I was able to get as a child. With the transformation, solid construction, great articulation, rotating cockpit and full set of Fastpacks, I overlooked the chubbiness of it and loved the crap out of it. After it was broken by nephews and then lost I never saw another one until I obtained one through Macrossworld several years ago (thanks again usagiz!) and all of the love returned. It may not be the 'best' Valk toy out there, but it sure is my favorite.

Great work as always, mpchi! I've been tempted by Jazz several times since he's usually the only TF on the pegs to look at. It's the arms and especially the hands that really turn me off.

I've passed up the 2-pack many times already. I really want a 08BB, but the one in the 2-pack looks dreadful to me. I really hate factory painted 'battle damage'.

That would indeed be very cool. I'd gladly kick my current Classics Megs to the curb in favor of one in a more G1ish deco. Ditto for BB if they do him solid yellow without the pearly white paint apps.
-
Definitely. While I'll always have a special place in my heart for G1 toys, their immobility was always a let-down, even when I was a kid. Not that I couldn't use my imagination or didn't enjoy them at that age, because I played the CRAP out of them, but I do specifically remember wishing the legs moved on more of them. One of my dream lines has always been G1 toys with added articulation, where they would alter certain G1 molds to give them seperate movable legs and stuff like that. But I'll take Classics as a substitute to that silly dream.

I just saw that the first series of Classics are being released in Japan, which is cool for the fans there. Does anyone think there will be any differences between those and the US versions? Also, has there been a Japanese release of the 08BB? Since I may have to resort to online for that guy I may as well get the Japanese version if there is one.
-
Oh, it's the actual cartoons that is spawning all the US vs. Japan TF nonsense? I guess I often just focus on the toys since I've never liked any of the TF cartoons, regardless of who did them (aside from likeing G1 as a kid of course). Toy-wise I like many of Takaras ideas. And we can't really use Binaltech as an example of Takara mishandling the license just because Binaltech didn't do well in Japan. If they did that poorly over there it's not because Takara made a bad product, it's because fans just didn't want to buy them. I assume KissPlay was Takaras attempt to appeal more to the Japanese fans, but even if that didn't work it's still not really Takara's fault so much as it is fickle fans. At least Takara tried to keep it alive. Actually...isnt' Binaltech technically still alive there with the clear Mirage that was just released? It's dead here. And overall, is there really that big of a problem? We're getting tons of cool TF toys here from Hasbro, Takara is still making really cool TF toys that we can import...am I missing something?

Meh, I happen to like Japan's 'crazy ideas' with the Transformers line just as much as what happens in the US. And what's the point of trumpeting USA! USA! USA! with the TF brand anyway? I've heard it before and I guess I don't get it. Both Japan and the US have made bad decisions and they've both made good decisions. Is there some kind of rivalry or something?

Damn, people are more rabid for this thing that I thought they would be. I was at Target at 8:40 this morning and the store was filled with people carrying around the TF DVD. I wanted the version with the transforming case and got one of the last TWO. I'm sure they have more to put out, but still. Haven't had a chace to check out the transforming case yet, but I'm sure it'll be good for a few seconds of entertainment.

For anyone considering buying the WalMart version, know this: The extra prequel 'cartoon' disc is NOT animated. Someone over at TFW2005 has it and said it's just scans of the prequel comic book with voice actors narrating it. I think I'll be quite happy with the Target set and reading the comic myself and also enjoying the full disc of special features that the WalMart dic doesn't come with. Here's the review: http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/showthread.php?t=154224

Just hypothetically speaking, but perhaps they could release them individually as GX-41a, GX-41b, etc.? I'm hoping for individual releases along with the whole set at once (before or after or simultaneously) since it'll be easier for me to afford it piece by piece. I'm too much of a hobo to drop over $200 in one shot.

Oooh...it's a combiner then? I may have to get this.

I know nothing about Godmars. Is it just the painted guy or is that whole group Godmars? If so, what is the gimmick/concept of the mechs? Do they nest in one-another like babushkas?
-
Wow, that is beautiful. Here's hoping Bandai does a SOC version. Although it'll be very hard to top the current SOC Danny.
-
Isn't there almost always a soundtrack score released for every big Hollywood movie? I can't imagine the TF movie would have needed a petition to get one released. Not to deflate the people that were involved in the petition or anything.

I've said it before, but I still think the 1/55 Chunkey Monkeys are variable toy perfection. Anime-accuracy aside, they have everything. Thier own good looking aesthetics, some of the most durable and solid toys ever, and a smooth and intuitive yet not completely simple transformation. When you throw a set of fastpacks into the mix it just gets better. Man, now I want to go home and play with my Super VF-1S...

Boo-urns. If that's the case I'm done with this movie series. Yes, I was only into it for Milla.

Saw this last night. The first twety minutes to half hour seemed a little slow, especially when they were introducing the stereotypical 'space-marine' style group of heroes. It picked up though, and it was overall a very entertaining watch. There were of course lots of things that require one to bite your tongue and tilt your head so your brain can slide out of your ear, but it was fun. Milla just downright kicks ass and she's been my favorite 'action hero' for a while now. Can't wait to see the inevitable #4 with it's presumable The one scene that really bugged me was with t ? It was cool to see though. Can't wait for the DVD. Milla's commentaries are some of the only commentaries I'll listen to.
