Southern Cross & Genesis Climber Mospeada
eriku replied to msterling21's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I think Mospeada is definitely worth owning. I'd put it almost on par with SDF Macross, maybe a little lower since the story isn't quite as interesting, but I actually like the characters in Mospeada better than the characters in Macross. I've yet to watch Southern Cross (outside of what was used in Robotech). I've never really read anything about the show that makes me want to see it. -
I thought I'd dig this thread up and try to get a follow-up on the apparently horrible Aoshima release. Has anyone else gotten one of these since November? Are they as bad as what was originally reported? Worse than Toynami's or slightly better? I've read a lot of second or third-hand reports/reviews, but very few first-hand opinions of the toy. I have the opportunity to get one for relatively cheap so I was considering taking my chances. If it's at least better than Toynami's, I may go for it.

When I was a kid, I just wanted whichever figures looked the coolest. It didn't matter if they were good guys or bad guys because I used my imagination to make them whatever I wanted them to be anyway.
-
No kidding. They easily could have at least released Rei and Asuka at the same time, especially since both are popular enough to sell really well.
-
Those are some amazing images. I wish I had the time/resources/ability to do something like that with my toys. But even as they are, my Iron Gear, Walker Galliar and Xabungle are some damn fine looking toys. Iron Gear is probably the most 'fun' toy I bought in all of 2007.

I don't have that figure so I don't know. Do you have the Revy figure? Rei is much taller than her, if that helps.
-
She's about 15cms tall.
-
Yeah, the whole thigh/hip area kind of bugs me. It's like the main goal of the design was to retain the butt shape. Two rev. joints aren't really neccessary there when they are so limited. I still love the figure though. Best Rei ever.

The price strikes me as odd mostly because ToysLogic is a fairly reputable store who's prices aren't really that different from other stores. This tells me that either they were given the wrong information, or that this set really will be around the $300 mark.
-
Heh, ToysLogic has this up for preorder now. They claim that the regular price is 329.99 and that their price is 289.99. I think I'll still hold out for HLJ's Early Bird. http://www.toyslogic.com/index.php?main_pa...roducts_id=3018

I don't recall his name, but I remember reading an interview with him (might have even been in this very thread, I'm too lazy to hunt for it). I think he was from Australia but I may be wrong on that. He said in the interview that he intended for Bumblebee to look like he was wearing a hoodie and sneakers. I believe he also did the MP3 player/bird Real Gear toy. The site that did his interview showed pictures of some toy he designed and was shopping around, I think it turned into a bird and robot and something else. Anyway, the guy seemed very cool and I really enjoyed his sculpting style. ::EDIT:: Yes, it's Alex Kubalsky. Here's a link to the interview I was talking about: http://pingmag.jp/2007/06/29/transformers/ I forgot he also did the 08 Camaro Bumblebee as well, which is probably why that's the best looking aesthetically of the whole line.

After looking at Onslaught a little more, I have to say I don't really care for him so far. I still can't figure out exactly what it is, but he just doesn't have that "ooooohhh NEAT!" vibe that almost all of the other Classics toys did (and yes I know he's technically Universe). Hopefully there will be more figures in the line that have the same kind of 'life' that Bumblebee and Mirage have. I don't suppose anyone knows if the guy who designed those is still working for Hasbro?

Hey, I like the Fiat! It's Lupin's ride! Or at least the 5000 from the 1960's. I'm sure the new ones don't look half as classy. Regarding the tailfins that may or may not go all the way into the arms. IF they don't, just paint them silver and pretend they're retractable arm blades. Non-anime-accuracy for the win!!

Infinitely more fun. More interesting design, more play options, most likely more solidly constructed. Representative of a better anime series (I love M+ but it doesn't compare to Mospeada). This just may be my 2008 TOTY.
-
I was just thinking I may have to skip the YF-21 to afford this, but that's a fair trade to me. This thing looks more fun overall anyway.
-
Glad you appreciated it.

I don't know what it's head can or can't do, we've only seen a few pictures. It looks like a fun toy to me, and I'm not one to keep a stack of linearts handy to compare everything to, so I'm all set.
-
So, how does this Selena thing match up to the lineart?
-
LOL, I think picking apart toys has become a hobby in itself for a lot of you. I still don't see one single thing I don't like about this set. Can't wait to get it.
-
Is anyone catching a "knock-off" vibe from Onslaught? I don't think it's the overall sculpt, which looks good to me. I might be the head and the paintjob. I don't know, but the very first thing that popped into my head was those generic robot toys at WalMart.
-
Wow....you think the Toynami looks better in fighter mode? Maybe it was just the one I had but the thing looked terrible with it's sagging belly and none of it's parts lining up. Kinda looked like it got sat on.
-
Aoshima basically re-released the Toynami Alpha with a few minor cosmetic changes. Most people reported that the QC was even worse than Toynami's on the Aoshima release and the backlash apparently caused Aoshima to drop their plans for a Beta/Tlead release.

Got mine from HLJ. They have it in stock and ready to ship: http://www.hlj.com/product/KYD01171 Note that sitting pic on the HLJ site - I can't get her to do that. I don't know if I'm not doing something right or if they detached her legs for that pose, but mine doesn't have that range. I'm actually a little disappointed in the larger scale, if only because it's so much larger than the other Revoltech humans. Would have rather kept them the same size, but at least it's a spectacular figure.
-
Just tried swapping Rei and Revy's heads but I knew it wouldn't work before I even tried it. Rei is MUCH bigger than Revy, so Rei's head on Revy looks creepy and Revy's head on Rei looks even creepier. I didn't realize how big Rei was until I put her next to Revy. Wonder why the went for the larger scale? I would assume all of the figures in the Fraulien line will be of the same scale, so head-swapping between Fraulien's will probably work fine.

So...does anyone else here think that this will be a good toy, or am I the only one?
