Funny movie site. 100 worst movies of all time
Skull Leader replied to GobotFool's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
lol, I rather enjoyed "young einstein"... wow, what does that say about my taste in movies? Ahhh well, I suppose I could add "Movie Critic" to the list of jobs I've no hope of performing -
Funny movie site. 100 worst movies of all time
Skull Leader replied to GobotFool's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I doubt the credibility of any list that puts "Armageddon" on there... that movie kicked ass in more ways than most films can manage. What's more, it appears that any sequel film is almost automatic fodder for this list. -
I'm really encouraged! I had plans to pick one or two up to begin with, and now I'm considering even more! It may not be flawless, but it's really shaping up! Slap some decals on those babies and they'll look even better. Besides... we all know SOMEONE, SOMEWHERE will make an after-market head... it's bound to happen. And from the looks of it, a pair of simple styrene strips can solve the LEX problem for battroids. in that instance, thank goodness for swappable parts, it'll make it that much easier to work on.

All right, let's settle this once and for all...
Skull Leader replied to kensei's topic in Movies and TV Series
Because Japan simply moved on to bigger things (I.E. more gundam). SDF Macross did well enough when it was actually out, it just dissapeared from the mainstream market pretty fast after it finished it's run. It's rather akin to the US Market when TMNT came out... it was vastly popular while the TV series was on the air, but within around a year of the original TV show going off the air, the toy market completely dried up (I understand this has been reversed with the new TV show, but that's for another discussion) Basically you're looking at the whole "out of sight, out of mind" concept... Macross came out in a highly developmental time in Japanese anime history. There were a lot of new anime series that were just hitting the ground around that time (and the years immediately following). The thing that kept it out of the limelight for so long (I think) was that it was 10 years before we saw another incarnation of Macross in ANY form. So it wasn't as if it were bad or something, I think it just fell victim to a flooded market (you'd be hard pressed to find a child of the early 1980s that loved Robotech, GI Joe, Transformers, Voltron, He-Man, StarBlazers, AND Thundercats all together... simply too many different areas of interest to cover) My whole take on the issue. -
yeah, if you guys are waiting to hear from someone that would actually play it, I will! I always wanted to play more of the original, but I never could get very far since I couldnt understand it (never got past the first battle) we want more ELS!!

I was under the impression that flaps give you a little more attitude control at lower speeds? -

you DO realize that he was remaining pretty low to the ground right? Flaps are always a good idea at that point -

"Chasing the Angels" is from Iron Eagle II, I LOVE that song and I was so happy the day I found it. I managed to get the Eric Martin tune... but everyone else on that board is right...the Rainey Haynes tune is nowhere to be found! LOL, I guess I was right in a way... Mr. Big DID sing "Eyes of the World", just... before he became Mr. Big... lol -
Ok, so we all know Iron Eagle, as an aviation movie, was pretty second rate (I enjoyed it though), but it yields a pretty impressive soundtrack for 80's music lovers. I am trying to track down the titles of the two elusive tunes that were in the movie but not the soundtrack. 1st tune is while Doug is flying the snake against Notcher 2nd tune is while Doug and Chappy were going up for their practice run ("Better get off the ground soon Colonel before this one gets canceled... the computer's been acting kind of strange today!") I have tried for the life of me to identify these tunes... I'm fairly certain the first tune is sung by Tina Turner (it just sounds like her), and the second tune sounds as if it were done by "Mr. Big", but I just can't find them... anyone else out there have any ideas? As an 80s music fan I love both of those tunes, and I'd love to get versions of them away from the movie. Thanks!

Luke Skywalker gets Fastpack Upgrade
Skull Leader replied to eriku's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Yeah really. "bitch bitch whine whine, Luke has a fastpack!! and look at those shoes! that's so stupiidddd " People say this and then have no problem with SD Gundams and Joke Machines? When you start pissing and moaning about inaccuracies in toys designed for KIDS, it's time to put down the Internet and get out a little Vostok 7 yeah, I think high-level collectors automatically ASSUME that these are for them and that stupid kids would only take them out of the package and play with them.... who would've thought??? *goes back to admiring his carded Jedi Knight Luke Skywalker* -
AHA!!! ARAFAT rears his ugly head again... my friend, if you know what's good, you'll stay away from this lowly piece of human filth. He has a bad history here and has burned many different buyers... he has also lied about alternate identities.

I'd say that guy is off his F-ing rocker... at the height of 1/55 collecting (pretty much the 2 years before Yamato brought their valkyrie products on line), the most I ever saw a MISB Ostritch or 'Seeker go for was something like $1700. That was minty fresh out of the case! Never opened, never breathed upon, NOTHING... Now we live in a much more saturated market, if it were truely MISB, he couldn't expect to fetch more than $1000 for it (and he'd be really lucky to get that I bet)

It bears notice that the Takatoku section of MW doesn't have any pricing attached to it, it's just pictures. What's more, those prices haven't been updated since that part of the site went up several years ago (in short, those prices reflect a pre-yamato market) The bandai "movie" valkyries really haven't gone down in price or collectablilty, since they weren't reissued. Really the only ones to suffer were the Takatoku line. Given the going rate for a loose good shape Takatoku (you can snag one for around $50 these days.. almost unheard of just 2-3 years ago) to a boxed one ($100-200), I'd say they've seriously lost market value. 2-3 years ago, we had people who would crawl all over one another to get at a boxed Max or Milia Takatoku for anything less than $250... given market options today (a replica in the same scale, decals PRINTED on, and without 20 years age attached to it, or a 1/48 super-detailed version), it's no surprise really that they've gone down.

a tempting idea... being modular opens it up to a whole world of possibilities. The only argument I could see against it is that the ship, like most Zentraedi war material, was probably built on an assembly line.... one after the other, all on the same mold. I'll be interested to see what ideas you come up with!

Actually, Macross has nowhere near the status as say something like Gundam. It seems to pretty much have the same status as american Macross (not robotech) fans.... a select group of diehards, maybe a few more that "know what it is", and more who "recall seeing it as a child", but nothing beyond that.

I was the proud recipient of the FIRST Chris Baretta VF-1S Head wish I still had it (I sold that valkyrie LONG ago)

Where in the World is Carmen San Diego
Skull Leader replied to Agent ONE's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I loved the show and I loved the game (I loved some of the others in the series also), I'd play it again, but it's probably way more complex than it used to be on my old Commodore 64.. -
wait a tick, you bought a VF-1S Hikaru STRIKE valkyrie for 1600 yen???? Either you've got it confused with the "SUPER" valkyrie or something's up... You guys smell something?
-
Well, I'm glad you like the 1/55, it has a very important place in Macross fandom...but I fail to see how the bandai is a better sculpt than the 1/48. the 1/48 (so far) is the closest to official line-art offered up by Shoji Kawamori (he himself, the MAN WHO DESIGNED IT, says it's the best representation so far). They're very well built and far more sturdy than any 1/60 ever was. Have you even handled a 1/48? The way you barely mention it I have to wonder. If you genuinely HAVE handled one and still stick to that conviction, more power to you and more 1/48s for me and everyone else....
-
Resin is a little easier to work with, in my opinion. It's a bit more sturdy and you can modify it a little easier than you can styrene material. However, styrene is the cure-all for scratch-building parts. You can buy sheet styrene at virtually any hobby store for pennies on the dollar. Both have their benefits, both are worth working in, but both are very different mediums.

ahhh well, I was close!

err, several of the launch sequences from the opening show tomcats with NH (CAW-11, then stationed on the big E) stenciled on the tailfins.. and then it mentions the USS Enterprise- "present day" (early 1980s) the actual planes that flew in their place at Miramar may have actually been that, but during the opening part of the movie, Maverick is from the VF-213 Black Lions. And there WAS a few seconds of brief footage of the VF-1 moving around on a carrier deck and aircraft being launched with NL (CAW-15, then stationed on the Ranger), but very little. What's more, all missile shots filmed in the final dogfight were done by the VF-114 Fighting Aardvarks (IIRC they had JUST given up their nose-stripes), you can again plainly see the "NH" and "VF-114" in several shots. Not that we should really be giving this any great deal of thought... TopGun certainly doesn't work very hard to be consistent in their action footage.
-
You're correct, Dave. The Nimitz is in port getting worked on at the moment. the "no stripes" thing is just about retarded... several squadrons of tomcats had them (even with low-vis markings) with no problems whatsoever... and now this Bullshit. BVR combat is the only thing likely to happen from here on out, and I SERIOUSLY doubt that having stripes is gonna get one of our jets shot down.
