Macross Frontier Mecha/Technology Thread IV *Read 1st Post*
anime52k8 replied to azrael's topic in Movies and TV Series
when was it ever stated that the VF-25 is supposed to be a cheaper anything? I seem to recall somewhere in the first few episodes Roy Ozma mentions that the VF-25 is very expensive to produce. now the YF-24 is supposed to be a cheaper mass production alternative to the VF-19 family, the VF-25 however, is a ultra high performance derivative of it. also, here's a thought. maybe the valks have such high G ratings for transformation rather than actual maneuvering in one mode. if were comparing to real world planes, some modern planes (such as the F-22) can handle/generate more G's than the pilot can handle even with G-suits so the planes performance is electronically limited. the same is probably the case for Valks, the aircraft's computer limits the maneuverability to what the pilot can take. and if the VF-25 has better G-compensation for the pilot, the VF-25 will have better handling. but back to the G-rating. just because a plane has a higher maximum G rating doesn't mean it's going to be more maneuverable since for even the tightest turns at most speeds it's not going to be coming close to it's maximum G rating. the G rating is a measure of how strong the airframe is, the plane may not be able to turn fast enough to reach that G loading and it's just overbuilt. and as for what I said about the high G rating being for transformation. it could be that they rate the planes so high because sections of the valk are probably under enormous amounts of stress during transformation. (I would imagine having half the aircraft fold over itself while traveling at Mach 2 would put a lot of stress on certain parts) -

yeah, they all come with the HDMI ports. but only the elite comes with the cables to use it. (though HDMI cables are only about 10~15 bucks). as for the NXE... I'm really liking it so far. the new layout is a little easier to navigate, though I'm still getting used to where they put everything. I really love the avatar function, though I was a little bummed about the limited selection of stuff. but they say new stuff will be forthcoming, so heres hoping. when I first made my avatar I tried to make it look like me: but I decided I'd rather look at something that doesn't look like me so I made this one: I think the avatar function's my new favorite time-waster. ANYWAYS... I've got high hopes for the new interface, the premium themes look cool, though a bit expensive. hopefully they'll be coming out with new stuff to go along with the NXE soon. I I've been playing mostly AC6 lately (though I'm getting world at war tomorrow) haven't had a chance to try out downloading games to my hard drive yet (I've got an Elite so I've got plenty of room). how do you do that and is it worth doing? -
OH... MY... GOD.... *faints* I'm so happy right now, I need dates and prices on when I can get those figures... NOW! :edit: by the way, I think at the listed sizes, they're closer to 1/7~1/6 scale. (which is even better)

it's perfectly accurate when compared to the anime. beyond that, you be the judge.

oh, now I get what you were saying. I thought you meant that you needed a magnetic field to propel the plasma out the engine. also I'm still not convinced that the wing fuel tanks are connected to the main engines. it would be very impractical (almost impossible) to rout sufficient amounts of fuel from the wings to the engines in both figther and Batroid mode. in fighter mode only, maybe, but then that means that the mode with the smallest available fuel volume is also the mode that consumes the most fuel. I would think the wing tanks supply fuel for the vernier thrusters on the main body, and the leg tanks provide fuel for the engines. (at least on the VF-1)
-
whether the engines were emitting superheated plasma, superheated air, or conventional jet exhaust the person is still going to be instantly fried at that distance.
-
even using something as light and (potentially) highly compressible as hydrogen, I would have questions about fuel capacity. I'm not sure if we have any real way of determining what kind of efficiency you could get out of said engine, but it would need to be incredibly high to provide the kind of endurance valks are shown to exhibit. (realistically, all the valks fuel would have to be stored in the legs. the routing to get fuel from anywhere else would be almost impossible) I'm going to suggest that anti-mater production is much more cost effective thanks to protoculture tech. the anti-mater would provide for more efficient fusion (less initial energy consumption). also is a magnetic field really necessary? I would think that plasma forming in the enigne itself would be under enough pressure that you could more a less just vent it for thrust.
-
good question, well in the real world we've come up with two way's of powering vehicles with nuclear/thermonuclear energy. the first is the nuclear jet engine, which uses a reactor to superheat air in and replace the combustion component of a convnetional engine, and the alternate option is nuclear pulse propulsion where you detonate a nuclear weapon behind the vehicle and then the vehicle rides the pulse. clearly the TRT does not use either of these methods. the TRT, based on the name uses some form of fusion, possibly using fusion initiated by antimatter. beyond that I have no idea.

New macross saga based movie (Robotech Genesis)
anime52k8 replied to kamikaze_kamujin's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
but this is robotech were talking about. the whole series is non-canon CRAP. it might have a chance to be better than it's source material at least. also sometimes fanfics can be good, it's just rare. :edit: having viewed some of the teaser material though, I think it's going to fail heavily -

ok, time for another dump of personal favorite finds. some Sheryl/Ranka's: this one's really pretty... my current wallpaper... there is so much win in this picture... sheryl pics, (the last two are gorgeous) more TG alto pics (is it bad that I find these so entertaining? ) super pretty ranka (have I posted this one before?) YAY HARUKA! (I've never played IM@S, but she make for one bitchin' plane in AC6 ) I feel so sick posting this... but I'm going to anyways. OMFG lelouch!!! and finally... (this one DOES have something to do with macross, I promise, you just have to look for it. also it's just plane awesome)

you know what would be the coolest thing ever? if when the 1/60 monster comes out, the guns on the back were actual guns that could shoot real bullets. at that size they're about .22 caliber. that would be so cool showing up at the local range with a freakin' monster. [warning:the fallowing is a bad attempt at humor, weaponizing your toys is highly dangerous and probably illegal in you're area]

wasn't that agent one? he still posts from time to time, so he's not banned any more. and he still hasn't shown us his massive warehouse of valks. -
Official Bandai 1/60 Scale DX Toy Thread Ver.2

first of all I put a lot of though into what I spend my money on, hence why I've only got a couple of valks. second I said both bandai and Yamato, and I bring it up here because were talking about the bandai/toynami deal HERE. it's been discused many times in the past whether yamato should make a deal with HG/Toynami. and doing so would more than likely result in Valks being sold in the US at cheaper prices. but sadly both sides have there heads too far up their callective asses to care about what's good for the consumer. and how the hell is Yamato or bandai partnering with toynami/HG going to effect you anyways? anywhere that HG has any ability to prevent importation they already are. and if they struck a deal wiht Yamato/bandai/BW, it would only make things cheaper since they could import in larger quantities direct from the manufacturer. you fail to understand the mentality of most Macross fans... were all going to buy them, though most of us will end up only getting 3 of each instead of 10. -
the Real reason is (as I've stated before) is because this isn't gundam. but as for in universe, it's possible that the thrust is automatically limited in batroid mode. in fighter mode the legs are strait, close together, and locked in to the rest of the vehicle fairly tightly. in the batroid mode, the legs are hanging off the valk, pointing off in slightly different directions and basically in a relatively unstable arrangement. it's possible that if the valk was able to use its full thrust it would be uncontrollable. I'd imagine having all that thrust coming from the bottom of the legs would make it incredibly unstable and hard to keep oriented correctly. also high thrust could put extra stress on the joints of the legs/hips when they're in there expanded free moving batroid configuration. it would be rather bad if the valk suddenly started flipping end over end or had the its legs fly off in different directions when it tried to accelerate. another thing about Gundam, in Gundam the mechs always have the main thrusters are on the backpack, where as on Valks they're in the feet. the backpack is a much better place to put primary thrust since it's closer to the center of gravity. though it make's transforming into a jet more difficult. that being said, I would think that the YF-21/VF-22 would be more stable and able to fly faster in batroid mode than most other valks because of it's thruster placement.

that does sound a bit more like it.

I already bitched about the Cockpit section being to massive in batroid mode and still stubby in fighter mode. the thing is I've already given up on the things that couldn't be done any better realisticly (the nose of the plane will always be a problem. if you get it right in batroid, the fighter looks like it hit a brick wall, if you get the nose right in fighter, the batroid ends up with VF-25 Doom-cock. they could have the wings better, but they don't. also, another thing that bothers me is the LERX's directly behind the canards. that part should is too strait, there should be a bit of a kink in it. if you look at the batroid of the 1/60 the part (which is behind the canards) is basically strait. on the GN-U figure the part has a change in angle, making it look pinched in. not only would it look better, it would also improve articulation. if you look at the pic the top of the intake hits that part, limiting the movment of the leg and producing the bow leg stance in the pic. -

the problem with that though is THERE IS NO ONE ELSE that BW/Bandai/Yamato/ can work with when it comes to importing Macross toys into the US. Whether or not HG actually holds the rights that they say they do, and whether or not what they're doing is right or acceptable form a moral and/or legal standpoint is ultimately irrelevant, the fact is that HG has a stranglehold on all things macross in the US and Toynami is the only company that they've given distribution rights to. in other words, if Bandai/Yamato/anyone else making macross products wants to play ball in the US, then they either play HG's game or not at all. and if with that in mind your position is still the same, and you would prefer that we not be able to get Macross toys in the US cheaply and legally then bandai make a deal with HG/Toynami, then I applaud you for taking the moral high ground and sticking with it. But at the same time I have no choice but to say SCREW YOUR MORALITY! I want cheap macross merchandise, and I don't care how many people have to get stepped on for it to happen. -
basically the Japanese yen is one of the few currencies that hasn't taken a huge hit in recent months. the exchange rate between the US Dollar and both euro and British pound is closer than it's been in quite some time. it's mostly that the value of the yen hasn't fallen nearly as much. I lucked out and ended up paying for mine about 2 or 3 days before the dollar dropped below 100 yen. (I've got some other stuff on preorder that are coming at the end of December though, hopefully the dollar will pick back up in the next month and a half) oh yeah, and mine finally arrived. I got 2 VF-25F's from the restock, hopefully I'll be able to start mine soon, though with school and all it may take a while.

well, the size comparison between the Nupetiet-Vergnitzs and the megaroad comes mostly from a scene in the animation where both ships are shown in profile, but it's possible that the Megaroad looks bigger do to perspective. there's this pic, but I'm not sure if they're actually drawn to the same scale, or if these two images were actually originally together. they may have been put together latter. one thing to think about though. if you look at the back part of the megaroad, you'll notice there's what apears to be a heavily modified ARMD integrated into the side of the ship at the base of the outboard engine Nacelles. on that part you can clearly make out the two big circles that are on the flight deck of the ARMD, and if you use them for scale then the whole ship works out to be about 1500 to 1700 meters in length. so at least they're not pulling the 1,600 meter length out of nowhere.

I've always absolutely despised those little 3-4 inch Star wars and GI Joe toys. they were always ugly, poorly articulated, and all the little guns and crap they came with were always getting lost. I don't see the apeal of tiny figures or GIANT valks. the toy's would be rather blagh, and the Valks would either be cheaply made, poorly detailed, and non transforming. or they would easily end up being over $1000. and where are you going to put something like that? the scale cap on any valk is probebly about 1/32 any bigger and it's going to be over 2 feet and absolutely ridiculousness. I'd rather everything was about a foot tall or so. 1/48th valks and 1/6th scale figures.

No, what I mean is that when the wings fold back, they should rotate in further. right now the toy looks like the wings rotate about 90 degrees, I think they should be able to rotate around 100 to 110 degrees. if they did, then it would bring the trailing edges of the wings together more. see how in the the trailing edges of the wings are basically parallel to to each other. on the toy aren't. if the wings were angled in more, the wing tips would be higher and from the front the wings wouldn't look so wide.
