Firing the gunpod in fighter mode-- dangerous?
anime52k8 replied to Syngyne's topic in Movies and TV Series
I highly doubt that a valk is ever in danger of rotating into the path of it's own gun fire. considering real planes carry external gun pods and don't shoot themselves, I think a valk will be just fine in fighter mode without any kind of fancy fut off. now a better question would be is it possible for a pilot to accidentally shoot his own valk with his gunpod in GERWALK and battroid mode. once you start swinging the gunpod around with it's arm, the possibility of pointing the gunpod at the mechs own nose/leg/other arm could happen -
Macross II Lovers Again (Sequel)
anime52k8 replied to ruskiiVFaussie's topic in Movies and TV Series
I don't think SK would ever let that fly though. even if he did get the power to veto anything he didn't like I don't think he would let someone start adding to his show. I get the impression that SK doesn't want anything that other people come up with included in the offical cannon because it limits what he can do with the show. any new production SK does only has to be consistent with his own previous work (which he can change if he's in a very George Lucas kind of mood), he doesn't want to have to work around other peoples material. additionally I have a feeling any production where someone else comes up with the concept and stuff, but SK gets final say is just going to turn into a train wreck of creative differences. I don't see why you have to make MacII cannon to do stuff in Macross Ace. Macross Ace is already doing stuff that isn't official cannon based on cannon shows, they could do something that's based on a non-cannon show that is still not cannon if they wanted to (and I kind of hope they do) -

I looked, and got nothing but blog posts, hundreds of them. similar problem finding macross chronicles and macross ace. nothing but blog posts about them, and Japanese only websites. and that's with yahoo and google. and calling stores in SF for info isn't exactly something I enjoy.

You bumped a thread 4 years and 9 months to the day after the last post so you could show that...

technically that's not the real VF-7 though (although it could fit as the VF-7 or maybe the VF-5 considering it's shape) none of the Advanced Valkyrie designs are cannon, there all from a non macross project SK did for a canned bandai model line. the only ones that would become official designs are the VF-3000 and VF-X-11 (after being renamed VF-9) which were used in the macross M3 video game. the VF-X-7 would totaly work as one of the as-yet unseen early valks, to bad it's not official. :edit: on an odd note, SK seems oddly partial to the design of the VF-9. after first conceiving of it in 1985 as part of the advanced Valkyrie series, he then resurrected it 5 years later as part of his Air cavalry chronicles series, and 11 years after that failed he brought the cutlass back again in Macross M3.

this is my impression of things based off everything we know so far: the after the end of project super nova, the VF-19 was accepted as the primary front line valk for spacy. and for the main spacy fleets (like the one in orbit around earth during mac+) the VF-19 is the primary valk that has replaced all VF-11's. the VF-22 is the new Special ops valk and has replaced the VF-17 in all the same fleets that the VF-19 replaced the VF-11. so what about the VF-171? well based on Frontier, we can surmise that Colony fleets (and possibly outlying colony worlds) operate with a fair amount of autonomy from NUN central command back on earth. as such, colonies choose which valks they want to use based on what there needs are. some fleets may have chosen to upgrade to the VF-19, others may still be soldiering on with the VF-11, and on Frontier uses the which is a VF-17 streamlined for mas production and general use. now the VF-25 and VF-27 both originate from the YF-24, the YF-24 is either an improvment over or a cheaper alternative to the VF-19. it hasn't been stated whether the YF-24 was adopted by the NUNS is it's main fighter, but the design was picked up by several colonies and improved upon. in the case of Frontier, they developed it into the VF-25 which they were going to use as a replacement to the VF-171 after SMS finished field testing it. and on galaxy they took the design and adapted it to there needs. so as to which is more advanced/powerful/versatile: in theory, the VF-25 is the best all around. it's performance is superior to the VF-19/-22, and because of multiple variants and the super/armor parts it's more versatile. as for most powerful/advanced valk, the VF-27 is top. the VF-27 can outperform even the super VF-25, it's got a miniature quantum beam gun, and it can interface with the pilots brain. the VF-27 is really only good as a heavy strike valk though, so it's not as versatile.

amazon Japan hates me, I don't know why but I have the worst time using that site. I'm giving HMV a try though.

oh I would love to except I'm a broke, American college student who can't exactly run down to the local book store to check these out (I'd rather not spend 2 hours and 10 dollars on bart just to find out if the nearest Japanese bookstore actually has it, which the probably don't) and I'm not having any luck finding this (or Macross ace or macross Chronicles) online so my ability to afford buying these and the internal conflict between "supporting the cause" and eating is kind of a moot point. So can you at least throw me a bone and link me an English website that sells this (and Macross ace and Macross Chronicles) so I can go ahead and spend what little money I do have on magazines I can't read.

in official continuity, the united nations government and the UN spacy were reorganized into the New UN and NUNS either right after the end of SWI (and the fact it's still called UNS is an error in subsequent material) or in about 2051 right after VF-X2. in Macross II, which is in the 2090's, the UNS still exists, and the NUNS is a military news network. so the whole nuns thing in MacII is actually proof against MacII being cannon. and it's presence in a macross ace (a magazine full of Non-cannon stories) does not make it part of official cannon. it will only be official cannon when SK/Studio Nue says it is, and they aren't going to do it. it is still NOT cannon, and it never will be.

damn that's awesome. the SDF-1 really lends itself to legos.
